Tome of the Orange Sky (Naruto/MGLN)

First he'd have to seal away a lake. Which I don't think Naruto is willing to do.
Not really an issue, he has a full month to gradually send clones to collect water from rivers or even just make copies of the seal in the shrine that provides a flow of water, and it doesn't make much difference if he uses one seal or a scroll of them that can be emptied in unison.

"Claiming that one without the clan's dojutsu is superior at performing the clan's techniques that require it is...surprising, at a minimum."
It's not like the byakugan itself really helps with the Revolving Heaven technique.

Or just send his clones on a stroll to the ocean, like when he stole the swords from Kiri.

I would also think plan A for his fight with Gaara is probably to drop an entire goddamn lake on him from a storage seal.
That just reminds me about a fic I one time read where a character taking their exam in Suna did dump a lakes worth of water into the arena. They also had to explain that the source was not local.

...And now I'm reminded of another where they were fighting Gara and kept creating pillars and destabalized the arena's ground due to it. Remade a grasslands into a desert ruin I think, been awhile since I read that...

Hmm. Everyone sounds the same? And the kids are talking too much like the adults?
It's less that, and more that CmptrWiz writes (almost) everyone in their stories as having nigh-unnaturally rational mindsets, contrary to their canon characterization(s).

It's an odd quirk to be sure, but (for those in this, and the Worm fandom story threads, anyways) not sufficiently offputting to bring up in discussion.

To be Fair these are children who are about 11-12 but are already soldiers and have been training with the expectations that they would be one for the past 2+ years. It's more shocking to me how childish some of the cannon characters are in Naruto when they've trained to be assassins and killers for a chunk of their formative years and then later grew up as what should be killers.

Maybe for you, but I found it pretty offputting this time.
Eh, it's been CmptrWz's writing style ever since Mauling Snarks, carried over into Hybrid Hive: Eat Shard?, and now here in Tome of the Orange Sky.

If you don't follow CmptrWz's earlier works all that closely, then I suppose said writing style's quirks/oddities/annoyances DO stand out all the more.

I ruled out that one due to not yet having a known way of removing the salt from sea water and doubting that he would want to risk literally salting the earth of his home village over fight that he doesn't absolutely need to win during a test that he may not even really care about passing at this point in time.

I figured 'salting the earth' is a lot less of a hassle for ninja with plenty of earth jutsu to deal with cleaning up.

"I'm more interested in summoning weapons anyway," Tenten admitted.

If she's going to summon an animal, for her fighting style, either something that can fly so she can launch attacks from higher grounds while her summon gives the projectile added speed via wind release or something with a lot of tentacles so that it can wield a lot of weapons at the same time would be ideal for Tenten. Flying Ramen Monster summoning?

I remember years ago I came across this one Naruto fic where Naruto knew how to MAKE summonig scrolls and associated summon animals. I think the title was something like Ancient History. Basically because of an attempt to learn sealing by himself Naruto gets sent to prehistorical time and becomes immortal until he reaches the same point in time that his past self goes back.

Looks like that might be Ancient History 101, but I could be wrong. Haven't started reading yet.

Supposedly, the Hyuuga bllodline limit is not just the dojutsu, but also the ability to expell chakra from every tenketsu. Those not of the clan require a lot of training to use more than the hands, lungs, and such. I assume even those actually required a lot of training, but they got that training in the academy.

In this story, it's shown that the Hyuuga don't rely on a bloodline limit to expel chakra like that. It's a result of how they train chakra control. Naruto was also taught that training method. The dojutsu is used to see the chakra network and where to target. But I'd imagine anyone with enough training could do the same thing without the dojutsu. Hyuuga just have a cheat mode that allows them to target without memorizing where the pressure points are.

There's a reason the byakugann is my favorite over the sharingan line, it's amazing for chakra training and research.

Shame it's attached to the Hyuuga elders.

I believe that the "required" byakyugan part of the revolving heaving technique is the ability to see what is going on around while it's happening, so you can start and end it tactically without wasting excessive amounts of chakra.

Well, yeah. But I'd imagine it's possible to make those decisions without it. And probably less disorienting too. I mean, it's dizzying enough to spin around with a 90 degree field of vision. Imagine how nauseating it would be to spin like that if you had 360 degree vision.
