Tome of the Orange Sky (Naruto/MGLN)

Good chapter, thanks. It feels like the level of required Naruto-knowledge has jumped up in this chapter, but maybe that's just my general Naruto-cluelessness shining through :)

All my Naruto knowledge is from Worm or HP crossovers, so I'm probably not a good target audience for a "mainly-Naruto" fic.

So, I wonder what changed to have the Uchiha conspirators suddenly turn on Obito and screw with his plans? Just normal AU stuff and not anything Naruto/the Tome did?
In canon, Obito never actually supported the conspiracy. While he intended to fan the flames, he ended up getting caught by Itachi and recruited into conducting the massacre. So it looks like a combination of two (maybe three) things led to the altered situation:

First, Obito actually appeared before the meeting. The Uchiha were already furious and ready to lash out against the village due to their situation, but seeing "Madara" gave them a more immediate and obvious target against which to vent their frustrations.

Second, Itachi and Shisui were rerouted from their canon destinies due to Jiraiya's intervention. With both of them likely still recovering from the surgery, Itachi wasn't there to intercept "Madara".

Third, assuming he had the chance to talk, "Madara" likely pissed off the Uchiha by being so focused on finding the Nine-Tails. There's a good chance that was enough to convince them he was responsible for the attack on the village which led to the Uchiha being segregated.

I wonder if all the chakra nets still have a record/identification of them. Since it's pretty clear that the 'bloodline' thing is just application of them being active. So presumably there's all kinds of other ones hiding around, possibly inactive in those that don't have any chakra training.

Of course, from there I expect Naruto will end up creating his own chakra nets eventually. Maybe recreating 'lost' bloodlines. Both ones that have no members, and just plain creating a new bloodline. Would partially depend on if Naruto manages to stumble on, in a form he can actually see/study, examples of the chakra nets.

Whatever Shisui used his other super-hypnotism for while he was drunk, presumably.

Though with that we're still running into fanon/poorly researched canon elements that we're just going to have to call out as AU elements, again. It's at least implied in canon that the once-per-decade thing was more because the eyes weren't held by Shisui/implanted in an actual person anymore. Mostly in that there's no mention of such a large limit when Danzo is abusing his one in the kage summit, and implied to have used it in the past, only later with the one that Itachi stuck in a crow and stuffed down Naruto's throat.

Edit: also, the fact that it was a thing Shisui's eyes were even known to be able to do, when he was a pretty young guy who wouldn't have had time to learn and test the technique, and also have it available to be dangerous at the time of the coup if he had a 10-year cool down on it.
There might be prior-records of that particular ability being used that state/imply the use, since I believe that there are 'common' skills that get repeated, even if there's unique/rarer skills. It's not like Shisui could confirm that the information wasn't accurate. Without, you know, using them up.

So it could be a lie to appease someone to explain either why they don't use it all the time, or to give a reason why they would do such and to not worry about it being used recklessly because of that.

Or alternatively it's part of how the chakra net has permissions setup. Where x condition has to be met before the limit is reached. Which would kind of make sense; the Sharingan is activated under specific circumstances. Ones that could justify loosening restrictions, so it makes sense to automatically do so. Restricted because of either power, or other downsides.

The whole 'lose vision' thing might be a security feature. Where you need a second 'signature' signing off on being allowed to use it. Which just so happens to be able to be bypassed by the eye swap to upgrade to the 'eternal' version. Though how that was figured out, who knows.

The specific eye patterns might be related to security codes/identifies as well. Or an encoded 'access list', which techniques the user is allowed to use. Especially as the eye swap has markers from each set afterwards.

While it's rumored that most of the Uchiha are dead, he put in those that went to that clan head meeting were dead. I've a feeling that many more Uchiha survived this time around. Say, wives and kids that didn't usually go to those things. Shisui, Itachi, and Izumi might have all been missing as well.

Sasuke would be rather different with his mom around and his brother basically leading the clan. Not so much an avenger. There is a mystery of who killed the folks so he might not even have a target to hate and train to go after.

About the only real difference here is that Naruto is known not to house the nine tails. The secret hunt for the nine-tail container was on. That's about the only bit that might have changed people's plans.

Everything else about Naruto shows that he has been a rather good clan kid. Even Danzo would like what has been reported about him. He has actually been taught ninja skills and happens to be quietly using them.

If Sasuke ends up with fangirls this time around, he might end up rather jealous of Naruto and Hinata's secret IDs if he ever finds out about it. The entire fangirl horde might be toned down to be merely Ino and Sakura. A few of the background girls that don't make into the clan kid class might like him. Then again those girls might like other clan boys as well.

Sasuke made the mistake of acing the leader boards and wanting to be the best. Naruto was taught to be average in class as he'd get far less attention that way. For the little girls, Sasuke would end up the top scorer and all that.

Hmm, so will his parents try to teach him to repair the various seals or ask for them to be repaired? Our favorite Toad Sage is the only one that really knows how to apply them, and he should facepalm when it is even brought to his attention. Of course, their clan compound needed tending. Sure, Naruto will eventually be able to do it, but he isn't remotely trained in it yet.

Even asking at this point would require him to bring it to the Hokage's attention that he is visiting his clan compound. It's made apparent that the ANBU know that he has been visiting there, but the Hokage might not.

Can't wait for slice-of-life moments with Hikari and Yoko doing shrine maiden things, wandering around town, or maybe even having to do demon hunter/exorcist as part of the shrine maiden bit. With an AU Naruto, you never know what will be going on in the background.

Considering Itachi is specifically the new clan head, and he specifically recognized Obito in the image, I'd say it's pretty likely he's still alive. Given the mention in the chapter, there were at least 14 people in there, assuming that they were only casting one jutsu for the 'accidental combination' of them. Though one of those could be Obito's.

It would, however have gutted the leadership of the Uchiha, even if there are still other Uchiha in leadership positions elsewhere.

At a guess I'd say that there wouldn't actually have been many people at the meeting. While the Uchiha were supposedly a pretty large clan it's doubtful that everyone in the clan was an active Ninja. Frankly I'd be hesitant to say that even HALF were Ninja trained with the rest being civilians as I wouldn't see everyone even wanting to be ninja. As such since they were planning a coup de-tat it was likely only the most powerful among the clan who would've been leading the others that were in the meeting. No point in having the grunts there after all. So all told I wouldn't expect much more than 20 people in the room at the absolute highest, all of them likely being Jonin level Ninja and/or Clan Elders.

This does mean that the clan leadership has been technically gutted but I suspect that there are likely plenty of, probably more level headed, people that can step straight into those now open positions. All the ripples from this should be glorious to watch unfold.

So, I wonder what changed to have the Uchiha conspirators suddenly turn on Obito and screw with his plans? Just normal AU stuff and not anything Naruto/the Tome did?
Madara wanted to end the rest of the clan for betraying him by not supporting him after the village was founded and Obito was convinced to help with that. In canon that led to the massacre.

Here, a number of things changed when the Tome woke up. Naruto was revealed as a "decoy", which threw Danzo's plans for a loop. He adjusted towards "find the real weapon" as a result. The village as a whole got a lesson in seeing beneath the underneath, as it was, upon finding out that Naruto couldn't be the fox because he was the fake...add in that he's likely an actual Uzumaki due to the chakra meter on top of that and they were primed to hate someone they shouldn't have ever had a problem with. Pressure via distrust of the Uchiha dropped at that point on the basis of evaluating what opinions were actually their own and changes in village security patterns further kept Danzo from getting access to Shisui before he and Itachi met up with Jiraiya outside of the village.

Obito, knowing about the coup attempt, then has a new problem that he didn't in canon. He and Zetsu can't find the fox. At all. And the coup is likely to kill everyone in the village that has any clue where to look. So he figures that he'll slip in and convince the clan to help him find the fox, perhaps claiming that it would allow for proof that he-as-Madara had been framed or something like that. Only he missed that the adults of the clan hated Madara more than Konoha, somewhat rightfully blaming the wayward former head of the clan for their troubles.

So instead of joining in on Itachi getting false orders from Danzo to eliminate the clan in their sleep, Obito drops into a room with all but three adult members of the clan that have a justified bone to pick with Madara, who Obito is pretending to be...

Danzo was supposedly able to spam things by virtue of integration of Hashirama's vitalizing cells supercharging recovery across the board for him, which is essentially another way of saying "bringing it closer to the Rinnegan instead of the Sharingan" from a dojutsu point of view.

As for how they knew things, I personally like the explanation that different Mangekyo reveal different parts of the stone in the Naka Shrine. Specifically, that some of the information you get to see is the basics of what abilities your eyes now have so that you have some kind of clue how to (or not to) use them.
Kids were generally not at the meeting (Sasuke was kept unaware of the coup, so we can assume that kids just didn't attend) but there's no reason to keep even civilian adults out of a meeting that involves the clan as a whole.

But we can assume that the three mentioned weren't present. :p

Alternatively, the Point of Divergence is far enough back that Ino and Sakura might not have significant crushes on Sasuke, or only one of them might.

Canon gives us the Book of Darkness, originally the Tome of the Night Sky before the Tome of the Purple Sky was sealed into it as part of meddling.

The Book of the Azure Sky was a later creation that isn't part of the Tome series, but was created in the same vein as it.

So we have "of the Night Sky", "of the Purple Sky", and "of the Azure Sky" from MGLN canon.

"of the Orange Sky" is just following an established theme.
On one hand sure. On the other hand, battle of aces is explicitly an alternate to canon. And being a Namcabanders game made for PSP, it isnt exactly well written.

but there's no reason to keep even civilian adults out of a meeting that involves the clan as a whole.

Well its still a Ninja village, you can't put literally the whole clan in one place without others taking note something is up. There's have to be some people who didn't attend, just to keep up the illusion of business as usual, who get caught up later.

If nothing else, there'd have to be a few adults out watching the kids.

I personally think that not only do you nerd a complete Rinnegan, but you also need a Byakugan to read all of the important information. I think such a setup would foster communication. You know, the thing yhe Sage of Six Paths created Ninshu around.

Question, about all the adult Uchiha, is this just Adult adults, or any one who graduated the academy adult, cause if the latter the clans definaltly mostly dead like I think was implied.

I would seriously question what line of thought led to someone learning they can turn local reality into an illusion in order to avoid injury if that's not how it works, and that's easily the least unlikely of the mangekyo powers to be discovered without outside help.

Ah but you're not taking into account that a clan having a meeting with all members isn't suspicious at all. It probably happens fairly regularly to discuss things like financial spending etc.

You'd still likely need to have the clan compound guards out at their posts, if for nothing else than ensuring you don't get eavesdroppers on the meeting. Also those designated to watch the youngest children, although that might be covered by older children. Also any Uchicha out on missions, as with the relaxing of tensions with the village it is likely they aren't being withheld from normal missions.

Essentially, it's not really believable that all of the adults of the clan were there, but it having included all senior members, especially of those actually ninjas, would fit.

You make good points for why full attendance would be unlikely for most meetings, but I can see an exception being made for a Very Important Clan Meeting. Something that shapes the future of the entire clan and decides the course they take as a collective moving forward. Stuff like going ahead with a potential coup and committing to a Leaf civil war.

Probably something they put effort into organizing, arranging it so everyone that could free their schedule, did free their schedule.

It's the sort of thing that could have happened like that, so I'm happy to accept author handwavium that it did happen like that.

I'm not sure a discussion about treason to be something that the Uchiha clan would openly discuss with civilians, even if it's something that would effect them. And all being Uchiha. All it would take is one person being careless, and considering they're civilians and thus would lack training... One person being overconfident would turn it from "Should we do a coup?" to "The Hokage knows" and thus fighting is forced. Or at the very least repercussions.

Now, I could understand bringing them in closer to the point where the non-civilian adults decided it was more likely than not to happen. Just to make sure they're on the same page. Sit on anyone that they think is a security risk before it happens. But probably before that point set out feelers if they are happy with the way the village is. 'Cause if they're happy, then why would they need a coup? And it's an easy enough thing to wave away; they're trying to figure out how to better serve their clanmembers, along with the village. Bring any possible issues up to the hokage. Given that the Uchiha, at that point in time, were in charge of the police force, well, they could have the general sentiment of the people and might stumble on something that could turn into a larger issue.

What with a happy population being less likely to be used by a infiltrating spy. I mean, granted, there's probably ninja that do handle that. Still doesn't mean they can't do their own part to help the village. Heck, could even spin it as a way of trying to improve relations with the village and their clan.

Everyone is so focused on the Uchiha massacre being downgraded that y'all are missing another humongous Canon derail: the Hyuuga getting the improved disguise jutsu is probably going to save Hizashi's life, because they can send another branch member in Hiashi's place to that fateful meeting, and Neji isn't going to have that massive stick up his ass about destiny.

Unless i'm really misremembering, that event happened pre-academy so it would have already occured.

Hizashi's been dead for years at this point.

And that stick is already quite large.

I am honestly waiting till Hinata can do the paperwork jutsu, herself.
Just think, solid research clones.
Hinata should have access to the clan library, waay more then her cousin, that is.
Even if it's still restricted thanks to her being a child.

I hope that in a effort to train her chacra capacity, she takes to training while water walking.

...by all accounts, the dude who created the stone didn't have access to a functional Byakugan, having gotten the Sharingan/Rinnegan instead. His brother got the Byakugan.

First: What clan compound guards?

Canon seems to imply that they don't maintain a guard rotation, both from not having any visible guard posts and because otherwise I'd expect alarms to have gone off during the massacre.

Older children being tasked with the younger ones is part of my mental image...when the younger ones aren't at the academy and similar.

The Uchiha clan feels like the kind of clan that basically says "everyone becomes a shinobi for basic skills reasons, but you can 'retire' early to do non-shinobi things afterwards" - this seems doubly likely to be the case given that being able to perform the Great Fireball technique was described as their coming of age right. You're not an adult Uchiha unless you can throw giant fireballs around!

As such, even the "civilian" Adult Uchiha are likely still shinobi, though they may be officially retired shinobi.

As others have pointed out, your timeline is off. The Hyuga incident happened before the Tome woke up.
