*flocks onto a bandwagon*

[X] Cut straight through the Field for the first flock of Doduo you can find.
-[X] Ask Silver for the lowdown on Doduo and Dodrio. He did do the research before bringing us out here, right?
-[X] In addition to the actual flock, stay on the look-out for Doduo tracks. Try to avoid trails that also contain Dodrio tracks.

ARE YOU READY?
I was born ready, where "ready" is defined as "naked and screaming".

Yeah, yeah! Tell us!" Leaf chirps as she skips circles around the two of you. "The suspense is killing me!"

"Maybe literally"
Leaf is super-impatient and almost childlike in some respects. Also we're already sassing her. Clearly this means that we are fast friends. Not as fast as we will be on a doduo, though. :V

He rolls his eyes, tossing something at you, and you barely manage to catch it without fumbling.
Dunno why Silver seemed to think this was obvious, unless... @wdangoisdoduo riding an established thing?

"The plan is to get our capture out of the way early, right? After that, our biggest obstacle in the Safari Zone will be distance."

No. "You--You can't be serious, Silver."

"Oh, I'm serious." That smirk. Agh!

"Woo-hoo!" Leaf cheers.

"Who wants to ride a Doduo?"

...No. Fucking. Way.

"Let's go!"
So, basically Silver wants to practice field-tam7ng a doduo for riding, to shorten our commute into the SZ by doing the same in the field? Quite aside from isolating and suppressing one, whichwe should be able to do, we really need to find out what his plan is, if any, for making riding actually happen.
Mission : Capture and tame a Doduo and without the use of a Pokéball.
Rewards : Riding Skill.
Penalty : None.
Okay, at leastthe stakes of failure here are pretty low, unless we, say, injure ourselves trying to ride an angry deathbirb.

We do plan to get a strong Oddish, and rush from Oddish to Bellossom as efficiently as possible.
We certainky plan ned to do so, but then people voted to get one outside the SZ, where a strong oddish is a rare oddish and an old oddish, meaning going for a strong oddish will be harder and much more likeoy to result in it dying before evolving.

Going for a weaker oddish and getting a good relationship for good scent control is probably going to be the way forwards.

Oh, also, we need to research vileplume and bellossom, as oddishnchoice now might affect later evolution prospects.

question about the extra pokeball from Silver. if something crazy were to happen and we somehow ended up with a 2nd pokemon would we be allowed to simply not report it and pretend we caught it later? i'm not saying it's likely or anything like that but i was just curious as to what could happen.
It would be difficult and risku, but maaaaaaaybe?

Don't we need to register our equipment upon return to the school? Not sure how procedures are, but a world involving dangerous monsters under the control of children demands some level of strictness in monitoring these captures.
No children involved, but military materiel is closely monitored. Pokeballs break in the field, though, and bringing back the scraps is probably not expected.

Pretty much. These are supposed to be child soldiers.
minus the child bit. They're just soldiers. Or cadets right now.

I think we need to plan and coordinate before running off half-cocked (or 1/3 cocked as we are on average :p) We need to know what Silver and Leaf know, and what they are actually planning. I don't care if it takes us a time unit, it should increase our odds and decrease our risks.

[X] Call a planning session, preferably before we get into the field:
-[X] We need to know if either of them has any specific knowledge of Doduo and dodrio, and pool any knowledge you have.
-[X] Find out how Silver was planning to induce compliance in the douo, and whether any precedents for it exist.
-[X] Find out what his basic plan was, and help refine it in light of everyone's pooled knowledge and skills.

If we want to genuinely start working with silver, we havetostartproperly communicating, and moving away from the paradigm of him just doing stufffor us and us reacting.

Uhh, dude, are you drunk?

PKMN riding in general is a thing. Doduo is his pick because it's the most likely option out of everything in SZ South.

I'm not drunk, sssshut up! You're drunk, I just had a... I had 5, no 6 beers, I had six beers, I'm sober. I can... I can walk just fine, see?

*considers*

When I was living on that military base during my summer as a contractor, it entirely depended a, whether they wanted to issue one, and b, if anyone would notice if you took one anyway.

It was surprisingly disorganized for a military base. Probably the not-in-an-active-warzone thing. Silver could definitely make headway, a lot depended on if the clerk liked you.

Anyway, back on topic, I think the idea is that we'd then grab new Doduo in the Safari Zone, and that was my question - if we tamed one there, what would be our chances of keeping it.

Pretty sure we fail if we bring back more than one.
Unless the university just takes them both.

Any mons we catch that we didn't explicitly sign up that we are aiming for them (and we can only sign up for a single evolutionary family) will get taken by the university.
I am assuming that if we somehow manage to catch multiple of a single type then we only get one (but we get to hopefully choose witch one).

*looks at FAQ2: DeepWater Boogaloo*

The main problem with catching multiple PKMN is that:

1. You MUST catch your specified target to pass.
2. You CANNOT reveal that you had access to illegal Pokéballs, which are tightly controlled.

If you manage to tame a PKMN without a Ball, chances are you'll be rewarded instead of punished. But a PKMN that has been caught in a Ball has telltale signs on its energy signature, so you can't capture it and pretend you hadn't... unless you destroy the ball post-taming, I suppose, but you'll likely want the insurance of an extra ball more than the extra capture.

If the birb we get is Doduo, I don't see why we couldn't also get Charizard. Neither Doduo nor Dodrio are fliers, after all.
