Because I have actual principles that lead me to point out substantial factual errors, and believe it's completely counterproductive and cult-ish to treat mods like gods. As I understand it, SV was created because of exactly that kind of ongoing problem with SB -- no accountability.

i know this is a rather controversial statement. But I find it strange that pedophilia is considered a mental disorder while lesbianism isn't. I wonder what Taylors power would say to someone sexually attracted to cars.

attention THE OP HAS REPEATEDLY ASKED YOU TO KNOCK OFF THE PEDOPHILIA DERAIL. NOW I AM TELLING YOU. STOP. NEXT POSTER TO IGNORE THIS GETS INFRACTED. @Insomniac, THAT INCLUDES YOU.

stop 25 points under Rule 5 for ignoring an official Moderator instruction.

Shaper was confused. This made no sense. Now conflict had been removed, the host had started using her powers. It wasn't possiblle. This was not supposed to be happening. Why was host able to use her powers more without the conflict drive?

The insane shard had claimed "Host felt her powers were too dangerous to be used while she was unstable. Now she is stable will start experimenting with them. Understandable you didn't realise, but sometimes the best solution is to remove conflicts. Note host still in love with sister. Too dangerous to remove. Still conflict there."

The insane shard had been right, to Shaper's horror. If Shaper gave host more of an ability to backtrack, then host would be less worried. And would use her powers more, perhaps even in combat. The adrenalin surge might well be enough if host entered combat. Now how to get host to do so, without removing the progress the insane shard had made.

I don't think there's anyone who is?

BTW, if you had just said the last sentence there, there'd be no infraction. Sexuality is spiders in this thread because thread derails, but I have no problem with talking about my actual characters.

Leets shard hates him cos he's afraid of getting hurt right. Would that be a fixable problem?

Unlikely. Leet being afraid of getting hurt is sane, and the problem is with the shard not being happy with Leet's saner decision, especially with his power. A saner Amy would be more willing to use her power. A saner Leet, less likely. Increasing Amy's sanity helped her shard. Increasing Leet's sanity hinders his shard. Amy's is probably the easiest shard to persuade. Leet's is likely the hardest.

I can see this actually happening. I wonder if Conflict Resolution is curing more than just the host... maybe it's also affecting the shard...

You are paranoid. Really, ridiculously paranoid. I don't know where it came from, and I'm not really sure I need to, but I can fix that for you.

Carol's scowl became a visage of rage. "You come to MY house. You change MY family.", she briefly flashed over to her Changer state before settling down. "Just. Just get out." She closed her eyes in resignation.

Amusement: "Inferno, help me!"
Approval: Sounds just like mother when she's had too much coffee. Excellent portrayal.

Note host still in love with sister. Too dangerous to remove. Still conflict there.

Agreement: Horrified. Shard needs to use magic alien mind-fixes.

Now she just needs to give Scion a friendly pat on the back and- Oh Noes There Goes The Multiverse! Oops.

Guess that chronic depression was good for something after all.

Would it be weird if Taylor touched Accord and nothing happened because it was the mouse Brain from 'Pinky and the Brain' in a mechanized robot suit? if an AI can trigger why not a mutated lab rat?

Huh, now I'm really curious as to how Accord's Coil's power interacts with Sanity's. Or, for that matter, with anything physical that affects mind states.

Coil's power works as if the Coils from both timelines shared a single, unbiased mind. I didn't notice this at the time, because the biggest psychological difference shown between the two was that maybe one of them didn't get their morning coffee. But that can't work if one Coil gets Sanity'ed (or brain damage, or brain enhancement tech...) and starts disagreeing with the other on which timeline is best.

(I'm aware there's WoG saying that Coil's power is just a disguised Thinker prediction power, that the "discarded" universes are just internal simulations that never actually happened. But not only is this not shown in canon (and not only does it have its own host of problems), it just passes the bucket for this particular question; SOMETHING still has to decide which of the two predicted timelines to enact in reality, based on the conflicting opinions of the predicted selves.)

Why can I hug this only once?

*Claps hands* Manservants, create accounts to hug this more, I demand it!

But in all seriousness, may I sig this? Because fuck, it's almost 4 in the morning and I think I woke everyone in the house with how hard I laughed.

@horngeek
You are not shutting down the threat, please? Here has been some problems but not on that scale.
Please don't do that... :(
Don't worry, we're not. One poster has been threadbanned for being unable to listen to Staff instructions, and we're watching to make sure the pedophilia talk doesn't get out of hand again, but the thread and story can continue without trouble.

Just so we're clear, I am personally fine with pedophilia talk as long as it has to do with my story. Talking about how Sanity's power interacts with various things? Fine. Talking about abstracted morality? Not fine.

Now i wonder if taylors power can affect shards as well, if the shards are the cause of the issue. Will glory girls shard be changed so her aura stops causing the issues? Would touching a case 53 like sveta cause the shard to stop working because their the reason for her issues?

could she touch contessa to remove the mental blocks that prevent her from modeling entities?

That would be a Trump power, not a Master power.

So, I had a silly thought. Conflict Resolution and Scion. And the Endbringers.

So, Scion and the Endbringers have pretty inhuman psychologies. Taylor meets [insert being here] and her power classifies their alien mentality as a disorder and "restores" it back to human standard, complete with human emotions and functioning sense of empathy.

What happens?

* Apologies if this has already been asked.

We're in early canon, when the Canberra Attack hasn't happened yet, right? I have absolutely no writing talent but I just couldn't help imagining this:

When the Bockton Bay capes arrived in Canberra to help fight the Simurgh, Taylor was terrified, but maybe her powers could help the victims so she volunteered anyways. Plus she couldn't leave her new friend, Amy, behind: Panacea was needed to heal the victims brought in by the Search and Rescue teams. Sanity could maybe help with the Simurgh puppets, and while she'd rather have had that theory tested before fixing people in the field, she didn't have the choice anymore...

But, when she went to her assigned post in the medical tents away from the Fight, she felt a strong and desperate call for help, the poor soul suffering so terribly Taylor had to help it right away.
Ignoring everything around her, she focused on The Call and went toward it, strangely uninterrupted.

———

Meanwhile, on the battlefield:

The fight was like all other Simurgh attacks, nothing seemed to work against the winged monster and some parahumans had already succumbed to the Scream's master effects, or to their armbands' "helpful" and explosive remedy.

Then, something unprecedented happened: the Scream stopped and the Simurgh tilted her head towards the ground, a strange questioning frown marring her unnaturally beautiful face.

Everyone, stunned from this odd turn of event, looked towards the same direction as the Endbringer, wondering what could have caught her complete attention in such a way. What they saw was a young teenaged cape, in a beginner's costume obviously put together in a frenzy. The girl was walking towards the monstrosity in a trance, seemingly completely focused on a matter only she could see. When she neared the Simurgh, she looked up and her gaze locked on the inhuman face.
Said face's mouth opened, alarming all in range, but what got out was not the dreaded Scream, it was something worse.

[Unknown Shard:Query?]

Most were shaken to their cores from that strange mental attack, some falling to their knees others breaking into tears. The young girl, though, looked startled but oddly not afraid.

"Hello, um, I'm Sanity and I couldn't help but feel your distress. I, err, can help you? You have the strangest issues I've ever seen." Was her nervous answer, and all waited with trepidation for the Simurgh's reply. She stared a long moment at Sanity, then apparently made her decision and stated in that strange way of hers.

[Agreement]

Things got even weirder when the Endbringer crouched and extended her delicate-looking hand to Sanity, who in turn gently touched it with her own bare hand. From the point of contact appeared some sort of ripples on the Simurgh's skin, and once the last one disappeared the monster smiled.

[JOY!!!]

The fucking Simurgh gleefully laughed. The being that had taken so many lifes giggled like a little kid, and picked up Sanity who absolutely did not shriek and then held her against her chest, some of her wings curling up around the two. She then sat down and started humming while the various tinker devices that had been orbiting around her were slowly being dismantled.

No one had any clue what to do anymore, and they wisely decided to flee-err, retreat, from the battlefield and regroup to discuss the events. After a few hours and some mental breakdowns, a lot of screaming matches, a long hard questioning of the Brockton Bay capes on who the heck is that insane parahuman and what are her plans, nothing really stood out on what line of action they should take. All the civilians had already evacuated and were watched over in a safe area, the wounded had been healed, the losses' remains recovered and now they had nothing to do, except that the Simurgh was still sitting contentedly in the middle of the half-destroyed city.

Dragon tried numerous times to contact Sanity through her armband, but apparently the Simurgh wanted some quality alone time because she had deactivated it. The Triumvirate was seen talking feverishly with a weird woman in a suit and a hat, sometimes one of them pointing towards the Scene.

Then, finally, something happened that might solve this situation: Scion appeared in all his golden glory, and looked at all the parahumans assembled away from the Endbringer and her new human teddy bear. For the first time ever an expression different from extreme sadness was witnessed on his face, he looked thoughtful and interested. Everyone followed him when he flew gently toward Sanity and her winged friend.

Once he had reached them, something unexpected happened, something terrible that confirmed some tinfoil hat conspiracies so far thought as insane and absolutely impossible. Scion, the First Parahuman, the Greatest Hero, the one who often helped fight back the Endbringers, opened his mouth and said in an horrifyingly familiar way:

[Query?]

———

A few days later, when most of the chaos got under control, someone finally asked Sanity the one question everyone wanted the answer to.
"Just, what was the deal with the Simurgh? You mentioned issues, what could possibly explain her behavior so far?"
And the solemn reply was, said with all of Sanity's seriousness: "Well, she had severe daddy issues."

———

I know this needs some good editing and is far from as good as the story, but damn I had this whole thing in my head and I had to write it. First omake I've ever done, thanks for writing frommerman I love your fic!
