You bite your lower lip as you mentally run through the list of just who you can go to with this. Your teammates are out, you can only imagine what would happen if you showed up in the middle of the Hyuuga compound with a foreign genin in the middle of the night, and Lee is...yeah
that's not happening. Sakura could work, but you don't want to bring an angry Jounin down on her head, or her family for that matter. Your apartment is out, you really want to help, but you're not an idiot. And the Village Guard...you spare a glance down at Kin, no they'd just throw her in a cell or something. She needs
help, not an interrogation, for now at least. Which leaves only one real possibility.
You're still not quite sure what you're doing, you reach down and takes one of Kin's hands in your own. The Sound-nin flinches slightly at the contact. "I..." You begin uncertainly, "I think you should come with me. I can take you to my jounin-sensei. He can keep you safe."
Kin still appears uncertain, eyes desperate and haunted. She wraps her free hand around both legs, and rests her forehead on her knees, as though trying to hide from the world. You suspect that if she could sink down through the wooden building and into the ground, she would have.
"You, um... won't have to tell him..." You continue, still hesitant, "I mean, we won't make you, uh... He won't ask anything of you. I promise."
You stand, still holding Kin's hand, and make to help the other girl to her feet. "Let's get you somewhere safe."'
The girl lifts her head up slightly, looking back and forth between your hand and your face with wide eyes. You see an array of emotions pass over her face, fear and desperation chief among them, seemingly fighting with herself over whether or not to take your hand. She opens her mouth to speak, but whatever she was going to say dies in her throat, and in the end all she manages is a slight nod of her head.
Your face splits into a wide grin as you pull her up, and you give her shoulder a reassuring squeeze, "Don't worry. Just follow me. We'll make sure they can't hurt you." She nods shakily as you both drop off of the roof. Time to visit Gai-sensei...
oh god time to go visit Gai-sensei.
You quietly pad through the empty streets of Konoha, Kin following you in silence, and while you do so you try and remember everything you know about Otogakure. It's not much, to be honest. They're a new village, based in the Land of Sound, and really the only notable thing about them is how much people
don't know about them. You don't think anyone even knows who the Otokage is. Though if they were willing to throw away a Genin team simply for not succeeding in the Chunin exams, you can't help but think that whoever they are...they're
just a bit callous.
You spare a glance back at Kin and offer her a reassuring smile and thumbs when you see her glancing around nervously. "Don't worry, we're almost there. Just a few more blocks." She doesn't so much smile at that, but you see her face relax a fraction at your words. Somewhere off in the distance you hear a dog barking as you wade through the moonlit streets of the residential district where Gai-sensei, your feet faintly crunching on the gravel of the road.
Kin continues to glance around, and while her face still betrays the fact that she looks incredibly nervously, that's not the whole story. "
I didn't...
It's nothing like I expected." You hear her murmur behind you.
"Oh?" You perk up slightly as you glance around a street corner, "What were you expecting then?"
"Just a second rate village with an ego too big for its own good, strutting around like it was better than everyone else." She grimaces, "At least, that's what we were taught..." She finishes with a bitter note in her voice.
"Sounds like whoever wrote your curriculum had a grudge." You say lightly.
She gets a strange look on her face, "Yeah...I guess you could say that..." she trails off, continuing to glance around her surroundings.
You really want to ask about that, but you did promise no questions, so you hold your tongue. For now at least. You've arrived anyway, you usher Kin through the wooden fence enclosing the small, immaculately maintained lawn and approach the simple single story building. Frankly, you're not entirely sure what to expect. You've only been to Gai-sensei's house once, and that was during the day...and after that little fiasco you've been careful to avoid any other repeats.
You take a deep breath, well it's now or never, and rap your knuckles against the wooden door. Or you would have, if the door hadn't immediately opened, so instead your hand lands with a soft thud against a standard-issue Konoha flak jacket. You blink in confusion once, before your brain manages to catch up with what just happened and you look up. "Gai-sensei! I, uh, was, ah..." You trail off as your teacher suddenly appears in front of you, looking exactly like he always does. Does he sleep in those clothes?
Not now brain! Say something.
"
Tenten!" He barks, with a serious look on his face as he takes in the both of you. Kin is just looking at your teacher with wide eyes, and eventually his gaze settles on her...and her headband. His eyes sweep back to you. "
What is going on?"
How are you going to explain this Gai-sensei? And more importantly, convince him to help?
[ ] Take the lead. Explain this. Oh god how do you explain this?
- [ ] Focus on the fact that you think Kin's life is in danger.
- [ ] Focus on how Kin really needs someone to be there for her right now.
- [ ] Tell him that she really needs some guidance.
- [ ] Just tell him what happened.
[ ] Let Kin speak for herself
- [ ] Do introductions, but then give Kin a chance to make her case.
[ ] Write-in?
- [ ] Stunt?
Well, you got to Gai-sensei's house. Now time to convince him to help you out. As for Kin, her expectations and training of what Konoha and Konoha-nin were going to be like are currently grinding up against what is actually happening. And they are losing, badly.
Hence why she's here now, even having done what's she's done now is something that she can't come back from. Suffice to say, if anyone found out, well...bad things would happen.
Assuming she's not actually a double agent or something.
And the next update is likely going to carry you through to tomorrow's event (which is visiting Lee), which is the last one for the week. I'm not entirely happy with how long this week took to get through, though some of that was due to your guy's luck with events, so I'm looking at reworking how the week actually progresses. Currently, my idea is to streamline each day down into the highlight's, with a series of vignettes per update so as to let me condense decisions and votes. Basically each day as an "Episode" if you will. But I'm still taking suggestions on how to actually do that. So if you guys have anything you'd like to see more/less of in updates, this is the time to tell me.
Edit: Also whew, this update should push it over 100 pages. Thank you guys so much.
