@Snowfire; I asked this before, but can you just confirm - or deny - that Worlds Lover will create smaller successes more quickly but won't allow - or make more difficult - to implement large scale testing? Basically, we can harness a small ritual team of 5 quickly but won't be able to do a citywide ritual. Secondly, how would the teaching campaign be handeled? I assume in Ever Present it would be a minor thing to hand it off to PR and keep them updated while with Worlds Lover it would be a mayor undertaking?

Ah, sorry for missing this before. You're mostly correct. World's Lover will allow for rapid theoretical progress, yes. The trade-off is that you'll be extremely limited in influencing how (or if) it's moved to practical implementation.

And yeah, larger scale testing like that? That'll be a hard thing to get done.

You're also correct that Mary isn't just going to vanish into the ether if you go Ever Present. She's the closest person to you alive, a career change isn't going to dent that.

What exactly can the Institute do that Mary can't already do at the Ministry of Science, with more resources and literally everyone with any research abilities at her beck and call? Frankly this whole Institute sounds like a vanity project to me: a way to horde all our favorite waifus resources and effectively privatize them into our own little fiefdom, crippling humanity's efforts to build up a new next-gen Fleet because we want to go play World Domination Simulator.
Massively efficient combined research actions. If it's Amanda's primary concern then it can research her unique practice abilities at that level too.

On an organisational level it gets to benefit from Amanda's skill at running things, prestige, contacts etc. full time if she's director rather than part time and at one remove if she's a patron with government responsibilities.

This isn't Amanda hogging all the best talent, this is Amanda concentrating it for greatest effect in a body that serves the public good. The ministries of science and practice in particular would be working very closely with it.

I also think she benefits herself from a longer break from government and public attitude to government benefits from a longer break from minister Hawk. Maybe in a decade or two she can go back to it.

Oh @Snowfire.... why do you feed the monster?

You could always write a short interlude of them discussing some actor they both fancy or a dinner where Mary introduces her significant other or something. If this shipping continues you know for certain that it is being done soely to annoy.

If it is done to annoy you shpuld ignore it to starve it of attention in this secret technique called 'being the mature one'. It is, admittedly, a very difficult technique.

If it continues after that then you can't do anything but ignore it anyways because it's dangerous to argue with delusional people.

Of course I know. I just can't help myself, and it's kinda funny to be fair.

NEVER! :p

You say that as if he's not doing it intentionally. It's just like the magical girls running gag. It's a fun way to engage with the players.
Adhoc vote count started by Coda on Jul 15, 2017 at 9:44 PM, finished with 82 posts and 22 votes.

And as of the latest count, there's still only one vote in it and just over twenty votes. I'm going to leave this until Monday probably, just so people have a chance to catch up. There was a lot of movement this week.

It's 12-11 right now.

I feel like I need to ask... Do people have problems with Ever Present, or do you just want to focus on the research (or OTP)? Is there something that we could potentially fix about it? Snowfire has made it clear that these options aren't meant to have major flaws in them, just differences in focus -- we can take actions to improve on our weaknesses. So... especially for the people who haven't expressed their rationales... What could I do to persuade you?

Well, we were drawn up square on 12/12, now we're 14/11. If things do come to a draw, although that seems unlikely at this point, I'll flip a coin to break the tie.

There are few people popping up on my alerts moving through the story, so I think I'll be holding to my decision to not call this until tomorrow evening.

So I've just read this whole quest and it's wonderful.

I feel the early focus on science research and progression and ascension is more interesting. It's the answers rather than the applications that I want to see more of.

[X] The World's Lover

Looks like Worlds Lover is getting it.

Ah well, we'll just have to start lots of projects to get the initial theories and hand them off to the government to finish once significant resources are needed. Just feels wrong to me to leave things unfinished.

Actually, @Snowfire how are we paying for the research institue? Do we pre-approve funding for the institue while still president (just a little sketchy that) or do we have to deal with getting funding every year as some of our actions?

Oh well, at least it won't affect the president as much because loosing the troubleshooter minister when an ambassador to the aliens is required would be a bugger. Come to think of it, I hope people actually want that position and I'm not just projecting?

There's certainly a large population of the playerbase that does want it. Is it universal? I have no idea.

Admit it - you just want to go "Tony Stark" on Practice...
I love the idea, but it's still not enough to get me to change my vote.

I'll be holding to my decision to not call this until tomorrow evening.
Hey! I made it back in time! (And nobody went overboard, I'm glad to say.)
You can stop manually adding my vote, Snowfire! And thanks for doing so!!!

[X] Ever Present

(Yeah, The World's Lover will win regardless. At least it wasn't Tongues of Gold... *shudder*)

[17] The World's Lover
[10] Ever Present

Total No. of Voters: 27

Well then.

I'll leave this up to the morning, but I can't see it changing. Will get things moving for next turn tomorrow evening.

This should be interesting.
