Seedlings are small, aphid-sized insects that live in the soil, feeding off the roots of plants, with a particular preference for gardens and agricultural areas. Their feeding does not significantly impact the host plants, which when combined with their small size, preference for remaining underground, and natural camouflage makes a seedling colony rather difficult to spot. Seedlings are highly territorial and do not tolerate attempts to interfere with their food source, and will viciously defend their territory by psychically compelling those who come too close to harm themselves or attack others. More than a few farmers and gardeners have unexpectedly met their ends this way during seemingly routine weeding rounds and harvests.
AN: Just a quick wildlife thing. See if you can guess where I imported this from.
Jacob has been tanking corruption rolls like a champ. I think he got offended when I made that first 77 symbolically count against him. He rarely rolls below an 80. I should recommend he gets a taint resistance trait at this point. I can only see corruption being an issue in some strange, unforeseeable disaster at this point.
I will say I felt sad that Daerla died because she was like our one homie we didn't dislike so far, but then I realised that said homie's name was Dona (I thought 'Feast Giver' was an upgraded title from 'Party Animal'). I'm happy Dona's still fine.
Daerla was cool though, no problems with her. We're batting 2-for-2 on friendly Slaaneshi.
I am not sure what the mechanics would be but fluffwise:
Jacob has experienced Chaos as a neighbour as opposed to an enemy, and has developed a deeply personal level of hatred beyond what even other Chaos-hating people have as a result.
With the Spider and Leon punished and your reputation burgeoning, you still need more influence. You decide to personally seek out Dova Brayhan the Eager, the Chapter Master of the Brazen Apes. Only legally a Great Clan, they consider themselves more of a Knightly Order than a clan. They do not train squires and give them Knights. They accept only Marked Khornates as members, and only those skilled enough to consider going for a Bloodname, with a bit more time and training. They have the fewest members, and the least non-Knight military or territory of them all. Most members spend their time questing, basically practicing Knightly extortion. They know how to shake someone down without the recipient losing too much honor. This legally encouraged extortion is their way of life.
Dova Brayhan eagerly seeks out worthy opponents, a rarity among the Clan Leaders. He does not seek to kill them, merely best them.
The moment you make it known you are looking for him, he makes it known he wishes test your mettle.
The two of you hit it off, though he's put off that you want to fight on foot instead of in a Knight. You explain that you wish to earn the title of Firestorm before you get stuck with the Gambler. You ask for an alliance with the Brazen Apes, he asks for a king's ransom of supplies, and agrees to a ground Duel in a Colluseum.
This will be a diffiicult fight, due to his Brass Collar. Your sword magic is sure to give an impressive show, but won't be very useful.
Dova is a favorite of the crowds. While your firesword wows the crowds, it seems they care more for Dova. You intend to take this fight slow, since you are more here to make an ally than to win.

You've overestimated Dova's endurance. He's not used to fighting for this long. You've gone through hell and back multiple times. Dova has made you bleed, enough that you can't afford to hold back without some questions. In your eagerness to end this fight, you've overestimated him.
He was supposed to parry, but you broke through his guard instead, as his injuries and tiredness caught up with him.
Many believed that Dova had the King's favor, that he was destined to become one of his Princes. But the King send someone to collect his soul.
The Brazen Apes did not like you killing Dova. They actually liked the guy. Regardless, they intend to keep to the word that Dova swore. They believe it was an accident that someone died in the arena today.
Scarra ascends as the new Chapter Master of the Brazen Apes decisively. While he does not like you, as Dova was his friend, he will keep Dova's word, especially once you offer part of that King's ransom that Dova asked for as your wager.
~
You decide that the Dark Mechanicus is a threat to be dismantled.
The Ghost Legion is happy to oblige.
The Fabricator Executor is found dead, as the technology of the Kingdom of Confusion has exploded, kill him. There is a great controversy over who killed him. Not all of the blame befalls the Kingdom of Confusion as you desired. They are also not likely to fall into civil war. They are disgustlying taken this about as well as they can, given how uncertain they are.
The Ghost Legion also tells you the Fabricator was a Tranth Clone. Weird.
~
Rampaging Crocodile takes the assassination frustratingly well. They've done the logicaly thing of withdrawing from society, hunkering down, and reducing the output of their forges. They know that there are dangerous things in the shadows. They do not jump to conclusions. They are not convinced that it was the Alpha Legion or the Kingdom of Confusion. They do not believe that they can acquire sufficient data, and devote all available manpower to to minimize the harm of spycraft, even if doing so harms their territories, social standings, or even factory outputs.
This well balanced response is never the less, cowardly in the eyes of the Knights. However, Kobas is now reeling. This is now four great clan leaders who have died in short order. You have destabilized this society far too much, and must now take some actions simply to alleviate the pressure.
The Ghost Legion tells you that while they would ordinarily leave at this point, the simple truth is they do not believe an exodus is possible at this point.
~
Reckless Crocodile is a problem. They are soon to be allies of the Kingdom of Confusion. They've shut down their society in a similiar way that Avernus does whenever it gets hit with a Chaos Incusion. While this costs them, it's the right play.
But they've made a fatal flaw. They've depended too much on their technology. The paranoia that grips the realm shields you, and so, you have Asura go on the offensive, against the Dark Mechanicus. You tap your Shifter allies. Some Senators resigned, to get ahead of some scandal. You send She Who Darts Swiftly.
While this might make Screaming Eagle less safe from the shadows, you see an opportunity to steal a great clan outright.
Asura, Shifters, Ghost Legion, and She Who Darts Swiftly are a terrifying combination. AI's are visible in the noosphere as unstoppable forces of sophistication, when they act. Asura holds back, not perfoming an all out assault, but instead hacks firewalls that the Ghost Legion find annoying. She Who Darts Swiftly installs bypass mechanisms in servers too closely scrutinized for Asura to subtly hack. The Ghost Legion acquire login credintials, and set up patsies to take the fall, as the Reckless Crocodile begins their hunt for spies. Meanwhile, all three of them work together to assist the Shifters take new rolls, as they do not merely infiltrate important personnel, they replace them outright.
The Ghost Legion gives the Reckless Crocodiles a false victory to feel confident in. Shifters steal the memories, implants, and places of key figures, and She Who Darts Swiftly deals with any emergencies as they pop up.
In the end, Asura installs the Armstrong nanomachines in the new clan leader, the only part of Reckless Crocodile Operation Spotlight found difficult to replace. He is the only one to understand just how screwed they all are.
59 vs 51
Next year, Reckless Crocodile will do as you say.
~
You have the Senate. You have the Media. You are the President. The only thing that isn't yours outright are your Bloodnames. Over time, you've been working with them, making them a part of your "inner circle", getting them to like and trust you.
100, 44, 8
A lot of them do. They're believe that an Unmarked President is going to do wonders for public order. Some are salty that they didn't see an opening for Clan Leader. You're pretty sure Nixon is talking with someone he really shouldn't be, but it's not a problem that you can't solve with an assassination.
But not all Bloodnames actually care about Democracy. Screaming Eagle was an old clan, before Amir'ka's diaspora. They are very insistent that now is the time for you to take the Mark of Khorne. Between the Mark, and some blessed equipment, you will secure dominance among the clans. They make some really good arguments. Not to you, of course, but among themselves. Taking the Mark is not an option.
You cannot dissuade them, at first. This isn't something they are relenting on.
But you hold your ground. Claiming that you are Just That Good. That your feats are yours and yours alone. That victory was yours alone, not to be shared with any but your allies, not a god.
They do not have the capacity to force you. They are not particularly swayed by your words, but, you do have an option. A very undesirable option. A compromise. Instead of swearing yourself to Khorne, you instead, just make yourself more... spiritually close to him.
~
It was something of a public ceremony. These disgusting blood rituals. You kill. You torture. You murder, and maim.
You coat yourself in the blood of warriors and innocents alike.
These people, they're assholes. Whether they deserve death or not for the threat they pose, nobody should die like this.
You kill Jack's own citizens. You burn and raze buildings to the ground. You are covered in blood, and the things you do will haunt you. You are soaking in Khornate taint. It could be worse.
This eight hour "ritual" is, naturally, a public spectacle. Some come out of the woodwork to test themselves against you, to say that they've crossed blades with the President. Some Nurglites see an opportunity to kill you, foolhardy as it may be. They all die to a man, for you are only permitted to spare only a single witness who crosses your path.
As you near the end of the ritual, returning to the Senate where you will be feasting on tainted human flesh, it seems that the old Khornate philosophical argument of whether it was "maim, burn, kill", or "maim, kill burn". You are asked, before the feast begins. You answer "Kill, Maim, Burn", and this is the correct answer, despite the fact that you use a superheated sword.
Somehow, just fucking somehow, Dona the Party Animal gets involved in this Khornate argument, and argues that instead of Main Burn Kill, it's instead,
A STEEL CHAIR TO THE FACE
Oh, that Senator is going to the hospital on the stretcher, with that sort of a skull bash.
The Shifters tap Holden Bloodfeast to interfere. Not to prevent escalation, no.
Holden Bloodfeast slugs Dona the Party Animal in the face. The respected bipartisan has just started a brawl on the Senate Floor!
What started as a mild Khornate philosophical issue has turned into a small riot. No one is drawing weapons, but between the shoving, the shouting, the miniature riot is just enough for the Shifters to swap the disgusting Blood Feat with something a little less tainted.
~
Five clan leaders have died in short order. Armstrong by you, Flemming by Leon, likely forced to by Flemming's paranoia. Karl died in a suicide attempt to take out Daera. You accidentally killed Dova, and then ordered Scayther's death.
The paranoia has reach a fever pitch. You have no choice but to go out and try to calm the general public. You're not even attempting to blame Belakor or the Kingdom of Confusion. You need stabiltity, here.
Jack's diplomacy rolls to calm things down
18, 68, 70
You have a hard time at first, but people aren't used to actually listening to the President of the Screaming Eagles.
But you've defeated Armstrong in a duel. You went to war against Vigilant Spider and killed their clan leader. Then you killed the Chapter Master of the Brazen Apen in ground combat. People are looking to you, once you give yourself a bit of distance from Screaming Eagle.
The Media in Screaming Eagle has a further reach than anybody in Kobas knows. Most simply laugh or rage at the spectacle, but few deny that New Columbia has an unmatched standard of living for most people. Kobas is more Undivided than it seems, once you get past the Knights at the top level of society.
Things are still unimaginably tense here, but you've got things to calm down somewhat.
Current Clan Layout
Blood Vipers (want to ally with Confusion against Trust)
Blood Dogs (tentative allies)
Brazen Apes (dissapointed allies)
Smouldering Jaguar (trade deal with Confusion)
Screaming Eagle (yours, honor gain)
Raging Orca (aloof)
Vigilant Spiders (Leon's, want to ally with Confusion, honor hit)
Reckless Crocodile (yours, honor hit)
Kobas Tension: High (do not let get too high or low)
Jack's Honor: High (somehow broke the President cap on Honor?)
Jack's Taint: 10/30
Leon's Honor: Taken a hit

Say, doesn't Trazyn still have that Fulgrim clone? He didn't want to release him in the past, but we're allies now, so maybe he'd release him if we asked. After all, a primarch out and about doing stuff is more helpful than a primarch sitting in stasis all day.
Say, doesn't Trazyn still have that Fulgrim clone? He didn't want to release him in the past, but we're allies now, so maybe he'd release him if we asked. After all, a primarch out and about doing stuff is more helpful than a primarch sitting in stasis all day.
I wasn't even thinking of the Emperor's Children. I just figured having another primarch would be a boon even if he's not on the level of the other living primarchs.
We've asked about Clonegrim for so long that I feel either he never existed in Embers or if he did he was disposed of when Silent King made sure to clean up Traynz's collection after the Krork incident.
Though it is kind of a horror thing with major supernatural components, where people will die if you screw up (and sometimes even when you do get it right). I tweaked a few things here and there, with one of the most notable being that you can't kill the TLN version just by overwatering them from afar. I'm pretty sure the Biologis could theoretically figure out some pesticide that works, but it probably isn't plain H2O because that would just be too easy.
We've asked about Clonegrim for so long that I feel either he never existed in Embers or if he did he was disposed of when Silent King made sure to clean up Traynz's collection after the Krork incident.
I remember we've asked about Fulgrim in the past, but I don't think we've asked since we became allies, and that's kind of a big development in regards to Trazyn's chances of agreeing to release him.
Ok, but what's more likely, that he releases the primarch, or he denied all knowledge, or Anatolian has already defrosted them and they're having a sitcom in the museum ship-tomb?
I doubt he's gonna let Fulgrim or Clonegrim or whatever out and about when the man who would be emporer is right there.
Say, doesn't Trazyn still have that Fulgrim clone? He didn't want to release him in the past, but we're allies now, so maybe he'd release him if we asked.
You want us to ask Trazyn to release someone that currently only Trazyn the Infinite knows exists? Because the Emperor's Children who knew died at the end of that story, and the only other living being that knew was Fabius Bile, who was tracked down and killed quite some time ago. No one knows of Clonegrim, so we can't ask about Clonegrim.

That's the thing though. Trazyn is one of the people who knows what happened, and unlike the previous times we've asked about this where we were adversaries with a history of stealing his shit, we're allied to him now. We might have actually found out about that, which means our odds of getting an answer about it are higher than they've ever been.
While Operation Spotlight was busy, so was Leon. His spies crept into New Columbia, searching for the prophecy given to Four Eyes. Despite the fierce work of the Ghost Legion in hunting them down, they are able to find some mid level Tzeentchian who secretly kept a copy.
You recieve a communication from Ridcully, who deals with these prophecies regularly. He interprets it for you.
Listen cub, and fear the lions enlightened
Witch hunter's son comes for the eagle's wings
It is the upcoming Senate who should be frightened
A song of order shall the Shifters sing
Though not all your enemies are aligned
Spycraft leaves so many in the dark
With a bit of skill that will change in time
Together shall they strike their mark
In the Forge of Skulls, patiently waiting
A Cabal of Nine within the Blood Mages
Embezzling power of the king
Stealing from the Navy for their wages
A vault of stolen faith of a thousand years
Beneath the sky of worthless skulls
Shall be the beginning of all the King's fears
And you shall bear witness to a secret Tzeentch foretold
~
The clan leader of the Blood Dogs was assassinated, and Leon used this opportunity to spread fear and paranoia. The Blood Dogs took it fairly well, being pack animals at heart. It did not seem to have the desired effect. The war for Arka'tesh swings in their favor.
That said, it seems that the new clan leader doesn't much care for the oath the previous Blood Dog leader gave, and will not be keeping it. He saw you as manipulative, but it does cause some controversy among the Blood Dogs.
Your agents have kept an eye on the Smuggling Cells, after the beating the Ghost Legion gave them. While they caused you problems, it appears they've either fled or gone to sleep all of a sudden. The Ghost Legion thinks they are also Slaaneshi.
It seems that the Alpha Legion has an occupational hazard of falling to Slaanesh without proper guidance. That, or it's simply a common exit plan.
~
A hundred and twenty Raging Orca ships warp into your system, and declare war upon New Columbia.
They break through your orbital defenses easily enough, as you had few of them.
As they draw closer, you order anti-orbital ground batteries to open fire.
This is when you realize that all the money that was going to the anti-orbital defenses has been embezzled. Promising to kill some people when you return, you hastily organise a sorcerous boarding party, and have to get involved yourself.
You cleave through the command crews easily enough, and port through ship by ship, a force of nature. The blood magics they use are unknown to you, but you peg them tactically as a mix of Tzeentchian and Nurglite sorcerers, in a sense. They use the Blood Spilt in Battle domain quite well, so you swap to blunt force as opposed to the sharpened edge of your sword. They animated the dead to do battle against you, but without the Nurglite toughness, they fall once more without much issue. Combat is an annoying power to have used against you when used as sorcery, it turns out. Strength of Arms can be an issue, so you swap tactics to disarming opponents.
Eventually, they leave, you having proven that you have the sorcerors to port in reinforcements to the fighting, even without the cover of anti-orbital batteries. You've taken their command ship, and the logs you find are fascinating.
Leon essentially blackmailed the Raging Orcas into attacking you, causing some problems. Did he know that your anti-orbital defenses were trash? Most likely, he just wanted to waste your time, but you have somewhat solid proof that you can use that he knew about the Blood Cabal of Nine. Did he overestimate the Blood Cabal's ability to keep a secret?
~
You have the Ghost Legion, you have the Shifters. You have the Media, and Asura, and yourself. Most importantly, you have 30 Knights just gathering dust.
Gambling bores you. The appeal just doesn't touch you. It grosses you out. You know the house odds. You've learned countless worthless betting "strategies". You understand the psychological mechanisms for addiction. That's not to say that you're some paragon of virtue. Gambling and risk taking behaviors just aren't you.
Illegal death races? Now that's another story. There's just something about the drama, the explosions, and the stakes involved that make them such a spectacle to behold. You can see part of the appeal of Chaos, of simply forsaking everything just for your own selfish desires. But, you need a new sin if you are to blend in, and gambling just isn't doing it for you anymore, not even betting on the Ork's street races.
And so, you muster all the power of Operation Spotlight, of your Bloodnames, and hatch a plan to deal with the rising miasma of terror and paranoia that is griping Kobas.
You are going to sponsor illegal death races far and wide accross Kobas. Giving bread is hard, but the Media knows how to make a circus.
You immediately attract racers, who would be willing to break codes of honor and cross the law. To win a Knight as such a prize is to immediately become a noble in this society. Pilots across the land are hankering for a chance to show off. Squires without Knight Titans of their own flock to the illegal promoters. Anyone with skill in a vehicle will strive to earn a place at the starting line.
You get law enforcement to play along, with bribes and threats. The Ghost Legion organizes some "hacked" broadcasts to showcase them, and Bloodnames go out on some quests for "Freedom of Speech".
You don the poorly made guise of Jake Flamewheel, Master of Ceremonies. It's a hooded cloak and an eyemask. You can see the top of your daily suit's tie. You might fool an inattentive child. You promote these races and the grand prize of a Knight.
It's like Masked Wrestling, but with vehicular combat. You manage to get some Knights involved with this act.
As Jack Fellblade, you condemn these reckless activities, and swear that you will put a stop to them yourself, even as you showcase the awesome parts of the race and call them dangerous.
The interest you stir across Kobas works. You've cut through the paranoia somewhat. But you've attracted attention. Leon is a fair bit sucessful in getting others to ask where these Knights that Jack is offering came from, and why didn't you use them to invade Vigilant Spider. Elsewhere, his agents spread rumors and lies of cheated races.
Still, you've defused some tensions, and started a major fad. One that is even likely to outlast Operation Spotlight. Assuming Kobas survives, that is.
~
At home, many Senators are partaking in one of the grand races.
Holden Bloodfeast, Dona the Party Animal, your "friend" Sama the Swift, Kephin the Unquarantined, Janga the Hook, Macy the Lightning Queen, Kubbin and Grukshak, are all participating.
And they're off!
Macy the Lightning Queen takes the lead, with Sama the Rapid, Kephin the Unquarantined, and Holden Bloodfeast are competing fiercly for that second position. Janga the Hook, a former space pirate, has outspeed the pair of Orks, one of whom is having major engine trouble, likely due to being so far away from the waaghfield.
Sama takes the lead using the curve, with Janga the Hook trailing behind him, showing off his understanding of understanding of aerodynamics. Holden Bloodfeast snags a steady third place. Dona and Kephin are duking it out, when all of a sudden, Grukshak has overtaken them!
Holden Bloodfeast isn't about to let some whippersnappers steal his show. He forces Janga the Hook off the track, costing him a few places. Grukshak has proven to be a *very* steady racer, ready for anything. It seems that Kephin won the clash over Dona, and Macy overtakes her. Likely a bit of your "encouragement" in the form of a shoulder mounted rocket launcher you've been targetting her with from your private helicopter.
It comes down to the wire between Sama the Rapid and Kephin the Unquarantined, while Dona eeks out a spot on the podium, edging out Kephin. Holden solidly beat both Grushak and Macy the Lightning Queen.
Your manager had to consult the photos, but Sama won by the slimmest of margins, thanks to his hood ornament.
Kephin is furious, and organizes a smear campaign against the Tzeentchian. Your "friend" will be heading out to some minor bushfire war, with his new Knight in tow.
~
You were thinking that such a close finish between a Tzeentchian and a Nurglite might be a cause for a riot. You were wrong.
It was Orks.
The Orks just got upstaged. They take their death races seriously. To lose to a humie?
They take to the streets near immediatly, their preffered media being one you don't have control over.
Your police weren't prepared to deal with an Ork riot. Things get out of hand quickly.
The cops call for more reinforcements, which lets them stem the rising tide.
Dona the Party Animal decides that this is her time to shine, after her prior near disasterous attempt at uniting Chaos Undivided. While she has gifts from Slaanesh, Tzeentch, and Tjapa, it didn't quite give her the power she needed to conquer Kephin's party.
She gets involved in the Ork's riot, egging them on, and getting more of their racers involved.
Using herself as a shield at some points, the cops hesitate at key moments, not willing to strike a Senator.
This is her play to regain some clout, it seems. Sadly, the Orks' politics are beyond comprehension.
That doesn't seem to stop her. The Riots overcome the barricades, and the riots spill over into the general public.
The Orks don't seem to realize that Jake Flamewheel and Jack Fellblade are the same person. They're quite upset at you for interfering with the death races.
All of a sudden, the Nurglites join the riots in full.
You have another fucking riot to deal with, now.

This is not the first time you've dealt with riots. These are nothing compared to the first night when you got here. You are in control here, and your telepathic sword puts thousands to a simple sleep.
On the second day, the rioters have adapted. They've made game plans quite quickly. The military underestimate them, thinking them nearly finished, when Dona the Party Animal finds you, and starts making a scene. Enough sorcerous witnesses are watching you that you can't just deal with her like you have the others, and the riots suddenly start again, since you seem unwilling to actually kill people.
The Military isn't going to make the same mistake twice, not on your watch. They don't think you'd kill large numbers of them, so you need to switch to telekinesis, knocking crowds over instead of cutting them down.
On the fourth day, the military is able to deal with most of them without your assistance.
