The King James Victory Parade - Avatar: The Way of Water and sequels

At this rate, by the time they release the 4th sequel, we'll have already explored Alpha Centauri for real.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the reason that the production for these fklms have taken as laughably long as they have because James Cameron figured the best idea for his quadrilogy of film sequels was to start production and filming of all 4 of them at once or something equally asinine?

I mean, didn't doing that massively reduce the production costs for the LOTR trilogy? Since they did most of the production and filming stuff all at once?

Mind. The first Avatar movie had a pretty ludicrous pre-production period. With Cameron scripting it in 94, considering filming in 97, but then deciding to wait over a decade for technological advances.

So, Production is started back up shortly in spite of COVID, and through set photos we're finally getting some of the more half-decent things about this series, that is, the tech porn.

WETA Workshop's brilliance for me is the real star of the movie/franchise, and nice to see them doing something a little different.

But I have to ask how the hell is Cameron dealing with the fact they got a cast of preteen kids as the main stars, who should be growing like crazy over these last three years? Do they just reshoot everything every year?

"I've selectively bred my actors for one specific role."

From what I've heard right now they're shooting 2 and 3 back to back. I imagine they're probably arranging their shooting schedules carefully. I'd also guess that the characters themselves will probably be growing in universe as well.

Also, most of them will be playing Na'vi, so that could make things easier to fudge.

I really want Cameron to rediscover taut, lean writing, but fear that with Avatar consuming all his creative energy, that'll never happen.

I rewatched Aliens last night, and despite it being the theatrical version that feels almost emotionally crippled due to missing out on so many key small scenes from the director's cut like Ripley and Hicks exchanging first names before she heads into the Hive or establishing Ripley's connection to her daughter to strengthen her new bond with Newt, it's still an amazing movie and makes me sad that Cameron is so obsessed with Avatar's 3D visuals instead of storytelling.

I can't recall a single word of Na'vi. Ever. Which is basically what Avatar is in a nutshell.

Will people even watch these. It's been ages since the first one. People may have forgotten about it.
