The Hounds. (An Original Text-Adventure style Quest)

>First thing is to get the lay of the land so to speak.. And with being watched may lead to an ambush.. any parts on the path that may hold an ambush? barring that, any activity near the House?
>Asar keep in front of the group as they move, observe the area for any tracks or signs of any more Aetheric doors.
>Teth check the group for wounds, got hit through the suit back there and may not be only would everyone had.
>Jaster, keep watch for anyone coming from behind. The doorway was destroyed true, but whoever is watching may try and shadow you.

>First thing is to get the lay of the land so to speak.. And with being watched may lead to an ambush.. any parts on the path that may hold an ambush? barring that, any activity near the House?

>Jaster, keep watch for anyone coming from behind. The doorway was destroyed true, but whoever is watching may try and shadow you.
As the trio of friends stared at the abode, Teth and Jester began to carefully look around to see if the area was as clear as it looked. Nothing visibly out of the ordinary, relatively speaking, was notable in this inherently strange place, and Asar didn't seem to detect any notable traps or hidden dangers. They were being watched of course, but whoever they were had no intention of attacking them or capturing them, otherwise they would have tried to do so already. This meant they weren't affiliated with the Dark Sisterhood, though this didn't mean they weren't of some other Aetherling faction.

With that out of the way, the group began to move, Asar in the lead. He silently observed the area for tracks or any more Aetheric doorways, but nothing important seemed to match either item of interest. The footpaths were clear of tracks, the plants looked healthy and undisturbed, and the house stood tall and without so much as a pip of sound.

As they moved, Teth inspected himself and the group for any injuries. The injuries he and Jester had recieved didn't seem to be permenant, though his natural healing factor was slower than normal. The armor they wore seemed to allow outside attacks in, being meant for containing their power more than anything. A mobile prison they wore on their own backs, instead of an unmoving cell to be stuck in. A verible nightmare in its own right, that.

Jaster, meanwhile, kept watch from behind. The doorway was gone, but they had been tracked before and that meant they were working on borrowed time. If the enemy Shades were working for the Dark Sisterhood as their foot soldiers, that meant they had access to the latters resources, and that meant it was only a matter of time before the strangers arrived to meet them again.

What really rattled Jaster is that he recognized none of them. Every Shade he knew of from before his entombment had been a fellow Hound, and yet here was a veritable army of Shades never before seen that were lackies to the biggest Lethe cult in the Aether. They were definitly new, even relative to the gap of time the Hounds had been out of commission: Their skill in combat was good, but no match for the more experienced Hounds. What really concerned Jester, however, was their armor and weapons. Mass produced Aethertech powered armor and Ghostfire launching weapons, made to fill a gap in power between themselves and the Hounds. Was this gap in power natural, or were they simply still too young to access their full abilities and this was just a stop gap? He swore he felt and saw their bones break during their battle, but he could sense they were of Oros descent. That said, there was a muddled aura about them.

This was all so very confusing, and so very concerning.

[I've managed to get stuff keeping me busy settled, so the update schedule from here on out is every other week as I switch between this and other things I'm writing, to avoid conflicting update schedules. After this update, I will also be focusing on making the updates a bit longer, aiming for about 500+ words per update so we can get moving along faster and to keep the previously anemic posts up to this point a thing of the past.]

>No need to be subtle now at this point, best one can do is try to make distance between the former captors and maybe find shelter. Its doubtfull any of the group wants to surrender to the Dark Sisterhood.. but walking into the clutches of another antagonistic group might be worse. Another approach may be to try and mitigate effects of restraints.. it's likely the Dark Sisterhood may have some measures that haven't been seen.. or strengthen at will like the collars. Any in the group have ideas?
> Asar keep in front and try and catch any glimpses of the watchers. They know your here and make their presence known at any moment
>Teth with the momentary calm try and ascertain anything else your restraints may hold. Will be all for nothing if they continually give away location. With the muddled aura the attackers gave off, might be worth debating among the group if it means something you can exploit.
>Jaster any chance could identify if the style of the House belonging to any groups you know of? Let rest of the group know what you noticed about your attackers

The group of old friends looked between one another to see what to do before nodding in agreement. Subtlety was not really in the cards anymore.

"Alright, I think we should confront whoever is watching us." Teth declared. "The sooner we meet them and find out what they want, the sooner we can get this over with. The Dark Sisterhood and their soldiers would be swarming us by now, so it's not them. Best case scenario, we have a potential ally. Worst case, we have another hostile we can let loose on the Sisterhood's forces if it comes down to it."

"Agreed." Jaster nodded. They both looked to Asar, who was looking around trying to catch a glimpse of any of the potential individuals spying on them. He just gave a thumbs up in agreement ot the plan. With that in agreement, the trio began to walk towards the house in question. As they did, Teth used the momentary peace to inspect the armor he was restrained by. It dulled his, and by extension the others' like Jaster, power, it prevented him from accessing his gear, and he was dead certain it also doubled as a homing beacon to his captors to keep track of him and find him again. However, it didn't seem to affect his actual, physical strength, and while it dulled his other powers to the point of uselessness, his strength remained enhanced by the Aether now that he was in it, allowing him to keep in close quarters combat with ease.

Jaster, meanwhile, was busy trying to identify the house. The pogoda style was common across many cultures across many realities, but he had to wrack his mind for anyone in the Aether who would be using it. Eventually, one name cropped up: Hosheck the Tea Mistress, an Aetherling said to be one of the oldest of her kind, and one who had developed an obsessive fascination with Mortal teas and tea ceremonies. If this was really her home, then the group had a chance: Hosheck was not hostile to Mortals or to the Hounds, and she particularly had a sour relationship with the Dark Sisterhood, referring to the Lethe worshipping cult as 'Lethe Botherer's'. If this was her home, then they had a brief respite: As dogged as the Dark Sisterhood's hunt for him and his friends were, they were not insane enough to dare come after them in the home of one of the oldest Aetherlings in existence.

That being said, if it was her, it also meant they were functually trapped here: If they tried to leave without first dealing with the means the Sisterhood were using to track him and his friends, almost certainly their restraint armors, they would know immediatly and would try to hunt them down the instant they left. What a dillema.

(Well, shit. School's been taking more of my time than I planned. Again. Well, I'm sorry this keeps happening, but we're nearing the final stretch, and with my current semester ending within the month and me planning on taking the summer off, we can expect updates to begin around May once again. Sorry for this happening again folks, I can't apologize enough. I thank you for your patience and those of you that return once the updates start up again.)

"Good news and bad news." Jester uttered, causing the others to look at him. "Good news is, it seems like we won't be bothered for a little while by the DS and their goons because of who this place belongs to. As for the bad news......The 'ling that lives here is Hosheck the Tea Mistress." This caused the other two in the group to flinch. Even knowing she was not inherently hostile did little to get rid of the low rising fear that came with bothering such an old and storied individual as that.

"Do we have much of a choice in where to go?" Teth asked. Now it was Jaster's turn to flinch, his face wincing beneath his armor.

"Well.....No."

"Okay, so it looks like we're going to have to bother Hosheck, which is...." Teth paused as he tried to find the words. Realizing he couldn't, he sighed and nodded towards the house before them before Asar breathed in and took up point. Teth took up the middle, keeping his eyes and senses open for anything odd, while Jaster brought up the rear, ready to launch into action at the first sign of trouble.

Approaching the pagoda like home left them all with a clear sense of unease, as even the knowledge that they had no other choice did nothing to assuage their fears. Approaching what looked like the entrance, Asar looked behind to his friends before motioning to it, inviting them to be the first to test their luck with the mood of the Aetherling who made their home here. Teth sucked in a breath as he stepped forward, fist raise to give a knock.

"You've caused quite a stir, haven't you?" As one, all three friends turned in combat ready positions towards the origin of the voice that had spoken. Behind them, seated on a branch on a near by tree, was another Shade, though one none of them were familiar with.

Male and covered head to toe in cloth armor and pieces of cloth that flowed in whispy contrails against the direction of the wind, the blank mask that stared down at them revealed only the telltale eyes of an Oros, purple in coloration.

>Teth do the talking with this Shade. He has you at a disadvantage so try and "persuade" him to reveal who he is and what he wants. He clearly already knows who you are..
>Jaster is there anything about his clothing that could indicate information on the Shade? He may not be hostile for now but he could be concealing weapons.. or failing that if his clothing materials were distinctive..

The trio of friends looked between themselves before Teth nodded and stepped forwards, the others taking positions to watch for any tricks or other foes. All three knew they were in a distinct disadvantage: Two of them were as close to completely powerless as their kind could get within the domain of the Aether proper, and one of them was distinctly not at the top of his game anymore. That left the only viable option being to try for diplomacy.

"Hello there, stranger." Teth uttered, raising his hands, hands open and palms facing the new individual. "We don't mean to cause trouble, we are simply looking for aid."

"I know who you are." The Shade male's voice was calm and collected as his purple eyes flowed from one member of the team to the next. "I know what you run from. I am also happy to tell you that you are most welcome here." If nothing else, they could sense the truth in his words and knew they were not going to be turned over to the Dark Sisterhood or their troops.

"Oh thank God," Jaster sighed in relief. "I don't recognize your attire, good sir. From which of our people's culture do you descend from?"

"I'm afraid there is a misunderstanding." The stranger uttered as he pulled back the bindings on his face to reveal a distinctly Oros face, the coloration and fur pattern indicating mixed heritage. "I'm not one of your people." That caught them a little off guard.

"Not one of....Are you by any chance a War Dog or of War Dog descent?" Jaster pressed on with asking.

"In a manner of speaking." The stranger said. "I am, technically, of War Dog descent. However, my father's particular kind is unknown to you. They arose long after the fall of the old Median was completed, and he and many of his siblings became trapped here in the Aether in an expedition gone wrong over a millennium ago as of the current date in the Mortal world." He raised a hand and held it to his chest. "I am Jet, and I am a Shade of the modern era, the result of my father's lost detachment intermingling with Aetherlings in a bid to survive in our hostile realm. They did not, yet we remain."

A War Dog, or at least a modern version of one. An artificial Nullian, Oros in this case, heavily modified to born and raised as the ultimate mass produced soldier. In the case of Oros War Dogs, their indestructible bones were made breakable in order to allow for rapid mass production and vastly decreased gestation time, which if what this Shade said was accurate, meant that the army of Shades they had been facing up until now were all descended from such beings.

That would explain their relative lack of power and durability.

>Seems the team has found an ally of sorts. See what you can learn from him.
>With his words being truthful Asar can ask if he stumbled upon them or were following your group... potentially helping to handle your pursuers.
>This Jet probably has knowledge of the local factions and areas. With Teth already making introduction can ask if any can provide aide or shelter.

"So," Asar began, "Be clear, Jet, have you been following us or did we stumble into you?"

"A little bit of both." Jet admitted. When the group looked amongst themselves with looks at one another, he elaborated. "This isle in particular is my home, specifically it belongs to my mother." That caused all three to freeze and be at a loss for words before Jaster found himself first and broke the question on their minds:

"You are a child of Hosheck the Tea Mistress?"

"Indeed." Jet uttered with a nod. "Mother saw the benefit in having a Shade-child for herself." He added as if that explained everything. "She has been keeping an eye on you lot ever since you got back into the Aether and has been watching your escape with keen interest. When you stumbled upon an old Walk-Gate and got it running again, you could say she nudged things to bring you all here." Now Jaster shivered.

"We have the attention of Hoschek." He murmured with no small amount of fear. Pushing himself from his own stunned state, Teth looked to Jet and motioned between them.

"You know who we are now, we know who you are, but it's been a long while since we've been in the Aether. Can you tell us how the political scene looks these days around here? The Sisterhood didn't have this much power or manpower working for them before now. How much control do they have now?"

"In the Aether, not as much as you think." Jet stated. "The Aetherling Queens that are part of the Sisterhood do not have as much power as the ones outside of it, so their control over the rest of the Aether is limited. However, their activities with the compact they made with my Shade kindred means they have accumulated a grand sum of Normal-Verse material in their vaults. All they have to do is put a sizable bounty of food on your heads for other Aetherling factions to have all but the most staunch opponents of them to be willing to turn you in for a taste of Mortal and Elder materials. As for who opposes them, I'm afraid all parties involved are too far from where we are for you to reach them for safety before the Sisterhood swamps you with response units."

"I see..." Teth murmured. So much information, most of it alarming. Times have definitely changed.

"So, an army of Shades descended from modern day, or close to it, War Dogs." Jaster muttered more to himself than anyone else. "How do you differ from previous generations?"

"My father's generation isn't your problem, only ours are, but if you must know, they were one of the newest, most advanced models of War Dogs ever derived from Oros genetic information. Advances in War Dog manufacturing combined with the genetics of two then living Oros, a male and female, allowed the creation of an army of siblings spread across several facilities on their homeworld." Jet explained as he sat down from where he was above them. "Faster gestation, refined production and creation meaning superior physical capabilities relative to their predecessors, multiple variants reflecting the other Oros Body-Types, a dedicated civilian class for production-It's a fully functional society of siblings, one linked by a functional quasi-hivemind to a leader figure to keep them focused rather than fracturing you often see in most War Dogs without a unifying command structure."

"Alright." Te murmured. "Alright, things have definitely changed while we were away." That had been a lot to take in. First the Median was gone, now all of this? It was insanity, but a few thousand years in forced slumber would lead to a much, much different world. "I guess this means if we want to go back to.....to our new home, we're going to have to meet with Hoscheck and hash something out." The others grimly nodded in agreement. It was risky to talk with an Aetherling so old and powerful, especially in their weakened states, but the alternative was even riskier.

"If you've decided to accept my mother's hospitality, come with me." Jet uttered as he instantly appeared before the closed door in a flash of expanding and dissipating Aether energy. Blink. A useful ability. "This way." He said as he opened the door. Already decided on their course of action and too late to turn back now, the group followed.

The inside of the home matched the outside, paper-screen walls separating rooms down long hallways. However, to say it was a normal instance of such a home would be extremely wrong. Even with their senses dampened, the group of friends could feel the geometries of this place ebb and flow, halls and rooms shifting just out of sight in patterns and rhythms that were lost on them, if there even was any meaning to the seemingly random spacial anomalies going on around them.

The trio followed Jet as he led them through the subtly shifting and changing spaces, always on alert. Just because Hoscheck had ordained to help them did not mean they were safe: With Aetherlings this old, the possibility of some last minute dangers or tests were never completely at zero.

"Here we are." Jet uttered as he opened a seemingly ordinary door and led them inside.

The room they entered was quite large, especially in relation to the relatively humble size of the exterior of the home. The walls were decorated with lovingly detailed paintings of scenes so ancient, none of the trio of friends recognized them from any of the histories they had read. On the opposite side of the room from them was an empty throne, in front of which was a long, simple wooden table, with mats instead of chairs.

And on the other side of the table, cloaked in a white kemono and slowly, painstakingly going through the motions of preparing a pot of tea, was Hoscheck.

To an outside looking in, she would have looked no different from any other Tommy breed Aetherling: Powerfully built digitigrade legs ending in a pair of long, sharp tipped toes attached to generous hips and an athletically built torso, a massive, spike covered tail trailing behind her like that of a fox if it was a single solid mass rather than fur, a pair of arms on slender shoulders ending in long, mantis like blades instead of hands and a rounded, mouthless, muzzled head with three purple eyes. The feminine curves and three eyes showed her to be a female of her species, and a mass of hair like material tied up in a bun behind her head, flanked by a pair of ear like spikes on the sides, would easily be mistaken for any typical, if unusually non-aggressive, specimen of the Tommy breed, flesh almost solid mass of purple so dark it was almost a lighter shade of black, with dark, tattoo like lines spread over her form being the only thing breaking up her appearance beside her distinct eyes.

But for the trio of Hounds, themselves Shades closely linked to the Aether, the truth was very much apparent: Despite her seemingly normal physical appearance, even without factoring in the clothes, her very presence and aura was visible to them, and it was of a power that only among the eldest of Aetherlings possessed.

She seemingly ignored them as she went about her slow, calculate procedure of preparing tea, but they knew better: She was watching them. Observing them.

(Hey all, this is a news update: My spring semester ended but my summer semester is starting next week, which makes me afraid the schedule slip will continue. As much as I'd like to finish this Quest properly, I realize that a proper announced hiatus is going to be necessary for a while, at least until my school schedule is less intense in the coming months. However, I believe that over this summer, I'll be able to finish this current event arc with you all, so for any of my players who have stuck around and wish to stick around, thank you for your support and patience, and my sincerest apologies for being unable to properly balance my school life and updating my things.

What say you all, do you guys feel up for this?)

Asar glanced between one of the oldest, and most powerfully dangerous, Tommies in existence and Jet before working the nerve to speak.

"Sit?" He asked, motioning to the mats.

"Yes." Jet nodded. "Just don't bother ma' until she's done making her brew." They didn't need to be told that, but it was something worth mentioning anyway. Never, ever interrupt Hoscheck while she is making tea. As the team sat on the mats, mirroring Hoscheck's use of her knees to be seated, Teth was quick to make note of the surroundings as subtly as he could. On the table before them, aside from Hoscheck's tea set, was a set cloth running the middle of the table length wise, where upon several carrying vessels of food were on display.

However, the fare before them was not of mortal stock, instead hailing directly from the purpose made foods in Oruals Gardens to feed the Aether and its inhabitants to minimize their venturing into other realms to satiate their hunger. Galaxy Eye flowers cooked until their spiraling galactic cores turned from black to an eerie nebula red, to World Fruits that resembled tiny, fruit sized planets complete with varying colors of fluids and plantlife growing on them. There was even Cosmic Soup, the broth black and covered in tiny stellar bodies like the night sky.

All three of the Hounds had heard of these Aetherling 'delicacies', though they never got the chance to try it themselves, having been raised in purely Mortal surroundings. For his part, Jet took his seat on his mother's side of the table, grabbed a World Fruit, and bit into it like one would a common apa, the molten core spraying his lips like it were juice.

"Eat or don't. We know how you lot are when you're raised on the other side." Jet stated matter o-factually. The trio of friends shared glances between one another before Jaster looked at the paintings. While he recognized none of them, artist or otherwise, he made note of each. The styles varied wildly between them, from crude almost cave painting esq figures to more ornate and conventional oil on canvas. Each of them showed Aetherlings performing various tasks, and it suddenly clicked in Jaster's mind what the connecting theme was.

The paintings were an artistic journey across the development of the Aetherlings since their inception at Orual's hands. The only question now was who made them, but given who they was in possession of them, Hoscheck likely knew the artists personally if these weren't in fact her own personal works over the aeons.

Everyone snapped to attention as the tea kettle was placed on the table and Hoscheck finally turned her purple eyed gaze towards them.

"Please, have some tea." Her voice was both impossibly old, yet etherically youthful, all at once.

"Oh, Jaster and I are kind of-" Teth began to motion towards the containment armors he and his friend were in when he suddenly realize he was feeling air touch against the fur of his face. He snapped his head to look at Jaster and the two found themselves without their helmets, containment or otherwise.

"Please, have some tea." Hoscheck repeated in the exact same intonation.

Taking one last look amongst themselves, the trio of Hounds gave thanks in unison for the presented meal before selecting something to start with. Asar picked up his tea cup and took a sip. He had no idea what it was made from or how long it had taken to make, but in his long life, this was easily the best tea he had ever tasted. In fact, whatever it was had a soothing effect that calmed the raging parts of his mind, if not healed, then at least pacified for now, allowing the fragment of lucidity he was clinging on to to feel more at home in his own body. The sense of relief this brought was indescribable.

For their part, Teth and Jaster each took a different food item and bit in, finding the literal cosmic cuisine to be indescribable to their mortal halfs, but comfortingly familiar to their Aetherling halves, like tasting a childhood meal long forgotten about.

"Ma'am," Teth began, "You were somehow able to remove our helmets. Would it be possible to take the rest of this armor off?"

"I can do so." Hoscheck spoke up from her position observing them. "But only here, in my personal domain. My sisters' craft is an art that took millennia of time and effort to produce, and they were quite careful to make it difficult to remove permanently outside of the place they make it, even for one such as myself."

"So once we leave here, it all comes back and we continue to remain stuck." Jaster sighed. "Terrific."

"Fear not, kin of my kin. I know how to free you from your chains, and wish to do so." At that, all three friends looked at her with surprise. "I have no love for the Sisterhood, their politics and dogma bore me and their contracts with their Shade servants are dishonorable in their nature." The Tommy huffed as she waved a mantid like limb through the air. "My son will assist you in this endeavor. He already knows where and how to remove your unwanted bonds, and if you are lucky, perhaps even destroy the means to produce more."

>She's offering to tell how to remove the armor and potentially destroy the source of it. Time to listen on what plan she has and if she any other requests.
>Asar can ask if she has any preferred methods to do so.
>Your not the only ones trapped in such a method. Teth can ask if she knows of more allies or captives that can assist in this endeavor.
>The place where your restraints were made would have security and potentially more measures. Jasper can ask and figure what those may be.

The group of friends shared a look amongst themselves before nodding. Asar was first to speak up.

"What methods to remove?"

"To deal with your shackles once and for all, you will have to delve back to the fortress which they were first placed. Within, the means to produce more can be found and destroyed, as well as the method used to remove the containment suits from you." She stated. "My son will lead you to the right location."

"Can we save our other allies?" Teth asked. "Can we free those still there?"

"You can certainly try." Hoscheck declared. "Though, you will find those already captured and stored away a far, far harder task than freeing yourselves and destroying the means to make more containers. They placed more value in containment first and foremost for those they have caught than to the replaceable means for making more capture units. Especially after you got this one out." She spared a look towards Jaster, who gulped.

"It's only been hours since that happened." He stated. "They already got to work on fixing that?"

"The Dark Sisterhood are nothing if not quick to learn from their discovered weakpoints, one of the few traits of theirs I find commendable." Hoschek explained. "Even as we speak, they are in the process of moving and increasing guard on your captured kin."

"Great, just.....great." Jaster sighed. He looked her in the eye. "So, the place where these things-" He made a show of tapping his containment armor, "Are less well guarded than our friends?"

"Relatively."

"Relatively?"

"It will still be most difficult." The Tommy explained. "Even with my son able to access his full strength, the three of you cannot, and you will be up against an army within their own territory." She explained. "Destroying the equipment and freeing yourselves is simple and easy. Actually making it there will be a troublesome affair." The friends sighed in near unison. Of course it wouldn't be that easy. Still, if they wanted out of here without worry of being brought right back in, they would need to deal with this now.

The question remained, however, of 'how'?

>If an operation like this is going to succeed, then their will have to be a plan to make it happen.
>First we got to know what exact sorts of defenses you would be dealing with. Asar can ask that.. it would not do to be recaptured by running into a prepared defense. They know what your capable of and would be prepared this time...
>Now to consider tactics, if the priority is to keep captives they already have.. that might be a weakness in of itself. A decoy attack that looks to be aimed at trying to free other Hounds may draw forces away from guarding the manufacturing equipment and provide an opportunity to destroy it. Other tactics could invoke seeing the viability of a stealth approach.. Teth can have such this debated to figure the best approach.
>Finally, the layout of the area. You only saw a portion of it amid your initial escape, and your not winning this war in one move. Will need to find a way in and a way to escape quickly.. Jaster can have this brought up.

Asar looked between the ancient Tommy and her son.

"Defenses?" He asked.

"In addition to the Shade Troopers they'll have access to, they'll have a handful of Aetherlings on hand for monitoring their equipment, Dark Sisterhood members." Jet began. "Outside of those, we can expect Simulacrums, basically autonomous Aether-Tech machines, and possibly either War Beasts or mercenaries to bolster their defenses further." The group nodded in understanding.

"I don't suppose you know the exact composition of what we can expect to encounter?" Teth asked. "We'll need to formulate a plan to get in and do what we need to do."

"Assuming no auxiliaries of Sims or Beasts, most of the defenses will be Shade Troopers of various specializations." Jet explained. "You've already encountered the basic Shade Trooper, but they also have close quarters, heavy weapons, support and officer variants, not counting rarer specialized ones they'll be keeping in reserve. If they do have auxiliaries, the most common we can expect are a mix of ground based bipedal combat support units called Terror Birds as well as aerial Death Shrouds. War Beasts likely means Cosmic Wolves, Rotfire Pheonix's, and Star Lobber Floaters."

"And the Aetherlings?"

"Hard to say, but they will have at least one Jenny in a leadership role, so there's that." Jennies. The Aetherlings most specialized in Aetherworks. Spell casters, in layman's terms. And those in leadership positions tend to be rather powerful in their own right, especially here in the Aether.

"Anything they won't have?" Teth asked.

"Vehicles are highly unlikely. They built their prison with long, narrow corridors and relatively small rooms in order to better box in and slow down escape attempts from back before they figured out their stasis tech." Jet shrugged. "So at least we won't have to fight a Devourer Tank." None of the Hounds present knew what that was, but they decided that in their current weakened states, fighting a tank was not a good idea.

"So, lots of long sightlines and little maneuverability." Jaster summoned up. "Terrific."

"Alright, here's what I suggest." Teth began. "We have a decoy attack on where they are storing our friends, while the real attack is in the control and production systems to deal with that permanently. Or at least for the foreseeable future."

"Well, that's better than no plan, but how are we going to divie up the man power?" Jaster asked. "I don't know if you noticed, big man, but there's only like 4 of us if we count Jet, and the last time we were there, the three of us had to be on the run because these suits are keeping us from doing anything other than punch and kick."

"True, we'll need help." Teth sighed. He looked to Jet. "I don't suppose you know anyone who would be up for helping us?" Jet paused as he gave it some thought.

"Well.....If we need bodies, I know an clan of Tommies who owe me one. But this would be big so they'll demand you three owe them a favor after this is all over, and I don't think I need to tell you how.....Single-minded my mother's younger kin can be." Teth winced. Knowing the average Tommy's wants and needs, they'll be demanding their payment in meat. A lot of it. And actually finding that would be a tall order even back in the Manamon world, as unleashing them was right out of the question.

"Anything else?" He asked.

"I also know an Aetherling Mercenary band, and their prices won't be as singular as a Tommy Pack. But they'll still demand payment." Jet paused. "There is one more option, but I'm hoping to avoid that."

"Let's hear it and then decide." Jaster stated.

"Before the Shade Troopers, long ago, there was another War Dog breed that were sold to the Aether, way way back when the first War Dogs were being made." Jet stated. "They've been in the downturn ever since the Shades came around and took over, but they are still numerically larger than the Shades, and I know they'll be happy for some payback on the 'upstarts'. But the Dread Hounds are also conquerors at heart, and helping them is opening up the potential for them to start up conquests if they succeed here."

Not many good options, but still.

>Each of these have their own merits and shortcomings.. its going to be a big decision.
>The Tommies owe Jet a favor so they may be the easiest to get on board with.. but what favor they would ask is the concern. Have Asar ask Jet how long he thinks they would give you to get the meat.. you dont need more enemies.
>Teth can ask about the Aetherling Mercenaries, you may lack proper payment for them right now but maybe can salvage something valuable from the Dark Sisterhood as a barter.. if they would accept it.
>If the Dread Hounds are looking for payback, they might be a problem either way if they hear about an ongoing attack on the Dark Sisterhood. They may take the opportunity to attack themselves while the local defenses are distracted. Have Jaster bring up this possibility.. and potential to turn it to your advantage.

"How long to get them meat?" Asar asked Jet directly.

"Given their lot, they'll want their payment in a matter of weeks time." Jet quirked his head at them. "I don't know how Mortal currency or ecosystems work, but do you think you can get several dozen tons of meat in that amount of time?" The other two Hounds looked to Teth given his experience with the world he and Asar had been on.

"Depends on if we can find enough Monsters in one place." Teth shrugged at his blunt, honest answer.

"Noted."

"What about the mercenaries?" Teth asked. "We're not exactly swimming in goods to pay them, but what if we offered them full salvage rights to whatever the Sisterhood have in there? Can we barter with that?" Jet opened his mouth to reply before pausing as he gave it some thought.

".....Maybe." He admitted. "I'll have to hash out the details with them, but it could work."

"So I know going to the Dread Hounds isn't a good option," Jaster began, causing everyone to look at him. "But they hate the Sisterhood, right? Well, doesn't that mean they'll come after this base when it is distracted and under assault, regardless of if we get their help or not?"

"Almost certainly, yes." Jet nodded. "We can use that to our advantage to get out, but if they arrive it will only be after our assault is well underway, so we can't expect any help until some damage is already done." The friends nodded as they looked among themselves, taking this information in.
