More seriously, I played a little bit of the minecraft mod. Its...rather bare-bones in all honesty. Though I did have a fun twenty or thirty minutes fighting off the Fallen Kingdom as the zombies. But theres very, very little to the focus trees. And very little countries that even have those. Feels very much like a wip. If they ever add more it could be some good fun, but until then...eh.

The maps interesting, though.

In private dev chats the second the drama went down, swf, the leader, said that the TNO team was lolcows who deserved the drama being thrown at them. He later publicly made a statement saying that he stands by his decision because he finds the accusations that at 16 years of age I made a secret pedo cult disguised as a HOI4 mod and then used it to groom children older than me at the point of me starting it.

To give context on the drama with him in the first place, when I first created the Coop I did so alongside the Cold War (not Iron Curtain) mod. Iron Curtain applied to join but the Cold War team leader (just going to call them CW and IC from here on) threatened to leave the Coop if I did because they'd been brigaded constantly by the IC team. I agreed and tried to turn IC down politely in which they said I was a dickhead piece of shit and formed an 'anti-coop' named the 'Internationale' (it even had a fucking red and black version of our icon it was incredibly weird) for mods either rejected from the Coop or that they had convinced did not want to be in the Coop (regularly they'd claim that I made the Coop to steal assets and that you had to surrender your mod to join and shit)

Time went on and someone told swf (who was still leading this anti-coop and possibly just invented this in his own head) that the TNO team had brigaded the IC server. I don't think I need to explain this but we had zero interaction before this besides the Coop thing (just me) and nobody on the team knew what he was talking about, but he promptly 'declared war' on TNO and began a series of constant raids and attacks on the server while riling up his community to follow suit, especially since the IC server was largely made up of people we could call 'edgy', and I'm sure you can imagine what that means in modern contexts.

Around the same time I stepped down from leadership of the Coop because I wanted it to be a democracy of mods instead of having me just dictating things, and because I didn't want to risk the reputation of the Coop (and its reputation with PDX) tarnished by any drama that I got into. The CW team lead took charge, effectively ended up ruling single handedly anyway, and did 'reconciliation' where he brought in swf and the members of the Internationale. This had the effect of effectively doubling the mods in the Coop and made swf the rapidly loudest voice within it, its also around the time the Coop began to 'die'. The sudden glut of mods nobody knew and the previous hostilities, as well as probably one of the most contested votes in the Coop, finally combined with a general lack of direction under the leadership at the time, meant that the inner chats between Coop reps just dried up over time.

With this happening and wanting to be nice, I agreed to bury the hatchet and make nice with swf. We worked without issue alongside one another for a few months. This is around the period of time where I tried building up bridges that had burned over the years towards the end of TNO, I made a lot of new friends around the period but that's not here nor there, the point is I thought things had been covered up with swf and we were good.

The CW lead eventually stepped out of the Coop, swf proceeded to take charge just before I left TNO.

Slowly images got leaked to me of swf talking insane amounts of shit about me and TNO in private chats (see the lolcows thing) which I'd grab screenshots from if I cared enough to dig through certain doxxing forums that rapidly went public. I kept my mouth shut on the topic because I didn't want to cause controversy, even as he kicked TNO out of the Coop (and also effectively ended the Coop itself, the last few PDX employees inside of it cut ties at about the same time), but he recently made the statement saying that he was siding with a gang of mentally damaged 14 year old alt-lite doxx cultists so I think calling him a piece of shit publicly and airing out how hilarious him calling anyone a drama-whore is, especially now that I'm not at all affiliated with TNO and no longer feel the need to smile and node at the dumb shit people like him have been causing for years now.

Also I'm pissed that my baby (Coop) got butchered and so on, so that too. This is also the only forum that, to my knowledge, isn't being scoured for posts I make to show off the latest drama, which also means I get to rant and not worry about it until next week when it inevitably happens.

The more I hear about this the more my absurd reluctance to join new Discord servers (especially large ones) seems justified.

HoI discord servers are absolutely toxic to oversee and participate in and I strongly recommend interacting with them as little as possible. They are not only full of some of the most hateful people you'll ever meet but they will gradually make you a worse person due to the culture of extreme edge and toxic irony.

I cut HoI IV discord servers out of my general social circle as part of my effort to detoxicify the influences in my life and I've been a much happier and less bitter and angry person as a result and am prone to far fewer edgy outbursts. Don't let that toxin become part of you.

Yeah if I could 100% disassociate with that community I'd do so in a heartbeat. I was given ownership of the CK3 Coop before swf managed to effectively collapse the concept of a multi-game Coop umbrella and it has been exceptionally pleasant and so far I've had no negative interactions with any creator on that side of PDX modding, as well as the community being far far better. The problems seem fairly localized to HOI4.

Stellaris and EUIV modding is also very low on drama and actual harassment. But world war two games seem to just attract the very worst sorts of communities without fail. Company of Heroes, Heroes & Generals, World of Tanks, Hearts of Iron, War Thunder and more have all had some of the very worst communities in gaming with some of the highest incidences of griefing, trolling, and outright harassment and the only linking thread is being a world war two video game.

I wonder if in some kind of twist of irony HOI4's community ended up absorbing all the people who would have otherwise gone on to fill CK3 servers with various shitty Deus Vult Memes.

The Deus Vult people in CK rapidly got crowded out by the people who want to fuck their virtual sisters, knock up Joan of Arc, and castrate the Pope purely because they can so three cheers for incest, waifu culture, and sociopathy I guess?

Not sure where you're at, but I'd say it is easier to cut off discord if you're not a mod maker, if you are OTOH, or involved in a few projects(like myself with RW) you're probably going to be stuck with it.

Think that's bad, it gets worse.

The CW:IC guys, as I mentioned to some, was involved in a hate campaign against Krasnacht on behest of the former Kalterkrieg dev, who really hated positive portrayals of socialism in any mod, and cut ties to Krasnacht on behest of Chroma and forbidding us from using their tech tree

He also ran a private drama server that's essentially Kiwifarms for HOI4 discord where he dissed the co-op and a lot of mods.

Personally I think we do kinda need a progressive/left-leaning non-toxic co-op for mods that aren't affliated with the co-op like TNO and some other mods.

Eh, that seems like it'd be more trouble than it's worth. The development community is tight-knit enough that it's perfectly easy to share assets and advice on an informal basis, and there's not really much else that you'd need a co-op for.
 
Like I said I run the CK3 Coop, and plan on starting similar organizations for any games I get into in the future. Organizations like that are out there - the HOI4 Coop I even started as one - you're just never going to see it in HOI4.

Same here. Though this does have the potential side effect of rendering you unaware of the toxicity on the servers; my first inkling of how bad things had gotten on the HOI4 Coop was from swf making an announcement of how the allegations against TNO are definitely true and the team should be disowned (and then informing people it's not a drama server so don't talk about it here, which while in theory reasonable also means that no-one on there can contradict that last word of his on the matter).
 
Oh god, I had a feeling this whole discussion was going to get worse. I really hope this doesn't lead to the thread getting locked.
 
Wow an account made just an hour ago whose post is only in this thread shows up after another recently made account which had no posting history showed up to stir shit.
One would almost think this is brigading but no one sane and well-adjusted would be pathetic enough to ever do such a thing.
