The Firestorm: A crossover invasion game. Looking for a 40k faction player.

Hey folks!
So we haven't had too much meaningful interaction between players yet, and I enjoy seeing this thread show up on my Unread Watched Threads section-you're all pretty entertaining- which leads me to current course of action: Posing everyone a few...*jazz hands* Questions...

What was your major movitaion for picking the faction you're playing?
What's your favorite thing about said faction?
What's your least favorite thing about said faction?
What're a few trivia bits you find pretty cool about your faction?
EDIT: If you couldn't play the faction you're currently using, what would be your second choice?
What attracts you to the faction your playing right now, and the faction you chose as your second choice?

If anyone else has any question they can contribute to the discussion please post 'em. I'm interested in learning more about the people I'm gaming with.

I'll get to making an post in the Almanac Thread...soon*.

*Soon
Lemme see...

What was your major motivation for picking the faction you're playing?Lots.
First off, I like the Metal Gear franchise and if any single faction represents them then it's Outer Heaven. But with this reason I could be playing Yokohama Base from Muv-Luv or any other fandoms I like, so...

Second, Metal Gear is a blend of military, science fiction and some weird exotic elements. Meaning they are more fit to deal with strange phenomena than a couple of other factions.

Third, it's an interesting blend of serious fiction and fun. The two blend together and almost inseparable. This means if I wish to write something serious, I can do it. If I want to write about something ridiculous or fun, I can do it. If I want both I can do it during the exact same post.

Fourth, I can use MSF/Diamond Dogs/Outer Heaven/Zanzibar Land's position as a mercenary faction which also takes in soldiers from all around the world creates an interesting and diverse environment where I can pretty much do anything in terms of plot. It gives me great degree of freedom and the thought and wonder on what will my faction turn into be is quite a motivator.

Fifth, most importantly I wanted to use Outer Heaven in an ISOT style NRP scenario since a long while, especially if crossovers are involved. There are still some factions which may fit the above criteria but I didn't try to make a faction for them only to be cockblocked away from actually playing them for the fourth time. Though it appears fifth time is the charm.

What's your favorite thing about said faction?
Well, see the above. If you mean outside of NRPing context then I guess it's the characters and the environment. It's a franchise playing straight and both making fun of movie, spy fiction and popular media cliches. About Outer Heaven in particular I think I got hooked with MSF in Peace Walker. A small yet independent "nation" of soldiers gathered from all backgrounds was the faction's thing since its conception but it was Peace Walker which first went into detail with it. For this reason I feel it'd be quite a bit of fun to do the same as I expand Outer Heaven to involve people from all across Xarmarazdik.

What's your least favorite thing about said faction?:
Well, there are a bunch of things but most importantly the lack of consistency. Kojima pretty much soft retcons details about Outer Heaven in each game. Sure, it's good since it evolves the setting but then we also have cuckoos like the development of Metal Gears. Pretty much technology evolves in the franchise by the timeline of game releases rather than following any chronological order. When I made my faction I chose an alternate universe version exactly because this could allow me to reconcile technology and other plot cohesion details better. It also allowed me to gather as many characters I could because as I said that's one of the parts I like about the series.

What're a few trivia bits you find pretty cool about your faction?
I spoke so much about this I don't think I can reveal much else. But okay, lemme get dem bullet points:
There are many more points but these I can list the fastest out of my lazy mind.

If you couldn't play the faction you're currently using, what would be your second choice?
I already made profile for them in the previous game
Chimeraguard would've volunteered to GM me with them again (he did write an intro post in Global Inferno but I was always occupied with other things) and I might've done it if not for Dust and echoes agreeing to GM Outer Heaven.

What attracts you to the faction your playing right now, and the faction you chose as your second choice?
The first part is a repeat of previous questions. I hate repeating myself so I just assume you already know it if you got this far reading my response.
As for Muv-Luv, they have similar "charms" as Metal Gear but also some pretty major differences. Outer Heaven is a sneaky elite force. My Muv-Luv taskforce would've been a typical army. Their charm point would've been both the weirdness on par with Metal Gear and also the screwy background politics I could've played with, especially if they have active communications with their original world. It could've been amusing and honestly they are more simple to play than Outer Heaven. But I feel this is going to be more rewarding.

What was your major movitaion for picking the faction you're playing?
I was going through my shelves of books, and Crisis on Conshelf Ten intrigued me. So I read it, again. Liked it, and when this appeared it was the second thing I thought of. So... Because I could?
What's your favorite thing about said faction?
The underwater living and the Gillmen. Sooo coool.
What's your least favorite thing about said faction?
The fact that most everything I've posted had to be made of whole cloth.
What're a few trivia bits you find pretty cool about your faction?
They use porpoises as transport, occasionally. Just grab onto the dorsal fin, and your off!
EDIT: If you couldn't play the faction you're currently using, what would be your second choice?
Amusingly, Conshelvers were my second choice. My first faction was a bit to techy for even tier A. If I did have a second choice.... Maybe a steampunk British Empire.
What attracts you to the faction your playing right now, and the faction you chose as your second choice?
The Conshelvers are not a military force. They are a bunch of scientists for the most part. Also, a working rapture is rather cool, yea?
For the CP!British Empire? I like clockpunk, and it would let me try out low level transhumanism. (Transhumanism... With steam)

What was your major movitaion for picking the faction you're playing?
I dunno, actually. Just felt like playing some Orks.
What's your favorite thing about said faction?
Them being Orks. Physics defying crazy-awesomeness.
What's your least favorite thing about said faction?
Again, not sure. Probably the fact i can't really diplomacy very well.
What're a few trivia bits you find pretty cool about your faction?
My faction is based off the player faction in a short quest I ran over on SB.
EDIT: If you couldn't play the faction you're currently using, what would be your second choice?
Necrons.
What attracts you to the faction your playing right now, and the faction you chose as your second choice?
They're both from 40k, I guess. The WIH specifically.

Looks like I missed the second half.
Woops.

If you couldn't play the faction you're currently using, what would be your second choice?: either the Wild hunt from the Witcher, or a mad max warband.
What attracts you to the faction you chose as your second choice?: well, the Wild Hunt just look cool, and more match the theme Mental was going for, and Mad Max is just awesome in so many ways.

What was your major movitaion for picking the faction you're playing?
Mostly I wanted to play an evil faction, every other time I tried being good and couldn't really expand on my terms.
What's your favorite thing about said faction?
The fact that I can pull corruption and portal shenanigans.
What's your least favorite thing about said faction?
Probably the fact that i'm low tech and will have trouble teching up. Plus that I can't go full evil without the mods coming down on my ass.
What're a few trivia bits you find pretty cool about your faction?
Well one of my favorites is the fact that timetravel or alternate timeline tricks won't do squat since the deeper parts of the twisting nether don't have a proper concept of time
EDIT: If you couldn't play the faction you're currently using, what would be your second choice?
Hmm not sure maybe the Aliens from Xcom 2 or the Empire from star wars.....no wait definitely the Empire from star wars.
What attracts you to the faction your playing right now, and the faction you chose as your second choice?
Being evil and loving it.

Nihilism as a moral position? I can see how that works (If you destroy all souls then they can never experience misery ect) even as Kepler would spit out his drink if he read it.
Well actually the whole point is that Sargares wants to destroy the universe and then start over without entities like the Old Gods corrupting resisting him.

I'm tempted to write a character piece from a radio presenters view of the 'Shelves. Like, in the name of the Lady, really tempted.

You just wrote seven thousand words there bud. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Editing your post after I've gone to sleep isn't fun. Regardless:

If you couldn't play the faction you're currently using, what would be your second choice?:
THIS IS PURELY FOR THE AMUSEMENT OF THE THREAD.
I AM NOT SWITCHING FACTIONS.

The Nightmare Empire of Cryx

Tier D
Powerful leader

Lord Tourk the dragonfather - A massive dragon able to swallow battleships whole, a mastery of dark magic, and an aura of necromantic energy that kills and resurrects anything that gets within hundreds of meters unless protected by magic.

Why you are here: With his expeditions to Immorean failed and his treacherous children gathering for an assault, Lord Toruk grew desperate. Calling on the accumulated dark knowledge of his empire, he cast the Sharde Isles trough the void outside of Caen and Urcaen in a wild gamble to preserve his life and power. When the ritual was complete, the Isles floated in an unfamiliar sea, under an unfamiliar sky. Finally escaping the enemies who had hounded him for so long, Toruk bade his servants to spread across this new land, in search of new powers, new opportunities, and new dangers that threatened their lord's new lease on life.

What?
Have a wiki. I'm not going to set up individual unit links for a hypothetical sheet.

Traits

Scavangers-Cryx has a long tradition of appropriating military resources and bodies for it's own use. The cryxian empire can rapidly replenish it's undead and mechanical forces with access to scavagable battlegrounds of an equal or higher tech level. They need not be the ones fighting there to pillage battlegrounds.

Forensic Necromancy: Cryxians are old hands at capturing souls, and are able to very effectively interrogate those souls for any military, political, scientific or magical secrets they may possess. Bonus to espionage related to acquiring information and technologies.

Drawbacks

Pirate haven: Cryxian culture is a culture of raiders, not builders. The resources needed are to be taken from any non-cryxian shipping that they may come across. Constant pirate raids will cause diplomatic incidents with any polity within one turns sailing, and prevent civilian shipping from trading with Cryx. Significant effort may be taken to get the pirates under control

Paranoia: Lord Toruk is far too wise to risk his unique and eternal life where his expendable pawns can be deployed instead. Lord Toruk MAY NOT be deployed to combat from his capital unless victory is already assured. He will defend the capital only if there is no hope of victory with conventional forces, and the nightmare empire retains enough power to be useful pawn.
Why
STEAMPUNK ZOMBIE PIRATES!

More seriously, it's another rather unusual faction, with it's navy focus. It also had a fun gameplan, focusing on it's bonus to stealing techs (and familiarity with both magic and technology) and it's scavenger bonus to grab the necromantic version of whatever I happened to run into. It also brings the overcomplicated force list and pile of silly tactical tricks that I thought would be useful in this kind of game (see: my real sheet). It turns out your guns aren't that useful when my troops can become incorporeal. Or tunnel. Or have personal smokescreens. Or walk through walls, out of my tunnels, into your lines.

What was your major movitaion for picking the faction you're playing?

When about this thread, I wanted a faction that I could enjoy playing. One that was interesting as a whole to me, and one who had a decent number of characters for me to work with, while avoiding having enough 'major' characters that I'd tire myself out.

Given that I was on a Drowtales binge at the time and I'm rather fond of the setting as a whole, I decided to go ahead with them.

In particular though, I just love the background of the Sharen as a whole and I'm definitely going to enjoy trying to depict the dynamic between the Val'Sharess and her daughters.

What's your favorite thing about said faction?

My favorable disposition to the Sharen has always been due to the relationship between Diva'ratrika and her daughters. While the divide won't be as blatant as in cannon due to the necessities of not beginning to implode in a dozen strategic turns or so, the root tensions between the would-have-been rebellious daughters and their mother will definitely still be there.

That such could very well lead to collapse is honestly a good part of the fun.

What's your least favorite thing about said faction?

That the source material only provides me with the end of the relationship between Diva and her daughters, so most of the character interactions between them as the leading figures of the nation are going to be heavily based on implications more than what was shown.

What're a few trivia bits you find pretty cool about your faction?

Chel'el'Sussoloth never meaningfully exceeded a population of 100,000.

Drow manatech is powered by what's functionally the trapped souls of the dead.

Drow are rather tall, most standing somewhere above 6'10 (7'4 being the average for females).

If you couldn't play the faction you're currently using, what would be your second choice?

I...have no idea....probably something silly.

Oh yeah we just want to do our thing and he just so happens to need us to do our thing.
And then he'll kill you all.

But it'll be a fun ride till then!
