Wouldn't that be under "slay them all" just more specific?
Yes, but they're different enough it's actually pretty important.

Think of the implications, you're an explosion user. What image does "Slay them all" bring to your mind?
Now what image does
[X] Kill their spirits as they die. If it looks like none of them will die, pick them off one by one, and make sure to kill the spirit before starting on the next. Doesn't matter which side they're on, they die, get killed again.

@veekie, I removed the quota part because we don't now which three they are. I liked the rest though.
bring?

You're all so uncreative....

[JK] Blow them up with explosions while attempting to summon a T-rex.

If you're going to break relative character and just massacre everything for almost no reason, then do it in style.

Is this better?

[X] Blow them all to bits. When they come back as spirits, blow them up again.
I wouldn't call it isn't, or is, better. But I will note that's not the same message as your previous vote at all.
I'm suddenly overwhelmed and confused.
Too early in the morning...

I just want to kill them all, the how isn't important to me, veekie came up with an idea so I just copied it.

I hate to say it, but the "how" is important to me personally.

This is insane mode, you can die at any moment.
And sadly, I don't think with the current interest level people are showing that this quest'll survive a reset from the first fight.

So I'd really rather you guys not stumble into death without a care.

Alright, deleted my earlier post, going back to the edited veekie plan. Also, I would still participate if there was a reset, although I can't speak for anyone else.

Alright, I'll be closing these in like 2 hours.
I kept them open so far for an undetermined amount of time because it appeared like talking had caused a weird uprising in votes. And it would be wrong of me to get in the middle of that.
But it's slowing down, so any longer than 2 hours would just be bad business.

What if we leave the wrong people alive? Our mentor seems likely to punish us for that, but not for killing extra.

The individuals don't seem important at all. Just that three die. Death is unfair, it doesn't choose a justified side, and it happens to everyone without rhyme or reason. That's the point Forgotten is trying to get across, or at least that's how I'm interpreting it.

Then what's the point of Death?
To destroy their soul so that they can pass on.
"When a person's death has occurred, their soul leaves their body and waits around for a Death to come in a secondary reality. Upon our arrival, we must destroy this soul entirely so it can pass on. However this is not a boring job without risk . If we fail to win, the soul that defeated you will absorb your power into their own soul and come back to life. They'll take your place when they die, so in a way I guess it's not technically 'dying' as much as 'ceasing to have sentience'
Was I..... Completely ignored?
What? Did you say something? Wasn't paying attention.

There will only be three souls. Only the ones we are suppose to destroy die.

And if all of them die, how are we supposed to know which three? How do we know only three will die? Just because we only received three targets, doesn't mean there Will only be three deaths. Maybe this is a test to see if we are willing to take them all out to be sure?

But if we leave after the third soul, we might not get the right ones.

@Cassanove_Clown you were ignored because I can't argue against that, we just don't know. Which is why I want us to get them all, just in case.

Right, but my point was the order doesn't matter, which is the point of the book in the first place. The lesson I take from this is that death is unfair, and that it doesn't choose a side. This gives us a very subjective choice, and the order in which we destroy the souls doesn't matter, as implied by the book.

You are death, and you're unfair! Pick a side, and show it fear."

That implies that no matter which side we choose, it'll be correct. The fact of it is, the test is to break in our psychopathic tendencies, and shrug off our mortal morality, not the actual order of individuals we kill.

Or at least that's how I'm interpreting this.

They won't all die. Only the ones who are meant to will. Forgotten told us our job is to kill the people already dead, nothing about the people who are alive. And they have to know something about what will happen, they knew to show up here after all.

Alright, pretty sure we have a winner. Unless Dark Ness would like to switch to the unedited version of their vote and cause a tie.
Votes will be locked in 15 minutes.
