[X] Happy. Having a Goddess looking out for her in even some small way had to be a good thing, right?

[X] Leave campus and head to a marketplace. You've got a small amount of money saved up, and as a Student of the College you can trust the lawkeepers to actually care if someone tries to mug you for it.

[X] "And what if I lose the fight?"
[X] "How common are these blessings? How many people is the Goddess keeping an eye on? Should I worry if I meet one?"
[X] Will she withdraw her blessing if I do anything in particular?

The first thing that you think to ask is, "What if I lose the fight?"

"When you pledge your victory to her?" Sammy shrugs. "So long as it's an honest loss, she will hold no grudge." There's a smile in her voice as she continues, though with a wistful edge to it, "As you can see from my situation, granting mercy to the defeated is also part of her divine mandate."

Always a good thing when your God is understanding of defeat you suppose...

"Another question then; how common are these blessings? How many people is the Goddess keeping an eye on? Should I worry if I meet one?"

"Blessings in general? Not as uncommon as you might think. Perhaps one in a thousand people are touched by the divine in at least some small way, though I do mean small- blessings much less miraculous than even your own, and most of these people are entirely unaware that they are blessed. As for how many are blessed personally by the Goddess of Conquest...I-"

She cuts off then tilts her head slightly. She coughs after a moment, poorly trying to disguise her pause as her non-corporeal throat somehow being irritated.

"I could not possibly begin to guess."

You open your mouth to comment, but she smoothly moves on to the next part of your question and you get the sense that she's shooting you a 'look' under that helmet. You decide to just let it pass.

"But! I doubt you have much to fear from others blessed like you are. Like I said, there's an aspect of picking a side here, and while normally there are those blessed by others that I might tell you to watch out for... Let's just say that things are in a quiet period. I would expect being blessed to stop fights for more often than start them."

"Then I guess my last question is do I have to be worried about her withdrawing her blessing?" You ask instead.

She stills a bit at that question. "Don't go around desecrating any shrines to her and I doubt you'll have many problems. And..." She hesitates. "Don't embarrass me."

You nod at that and say simply. "I won't."

With that you excuse yourself to get to sleep. You don't have to worry about an upcoming fight and you've covered the window in what you hope is a satisfactory enough manner to let you finally sleep in. As you drift off, you find that you don't really feel much of anything in regards to being blessed by a Goddess. You're not unhappy, but... You don't think it changes anything. You don't think Diadem is a city where even a Goddess can change the order of things.
---

You dream of fire and blood.

---
You wake up. A quick twist to the side reassures you that the blanket you had carefully arranged to cover your window was still up, and with a jerking twist you pull it away to you can see outside. It looks to be around noon, but that's all you can figure out before you overbalance and fall with half you covers to the surprisingly soft carpeted floor of your room. You consider getting up, but really, "This is far too comfortable," you yawn to yourself.
---
Peace.
---
Two hours later, you wake up once more, thankfully not punished for your slothfulness by a crick in your neck. Half an hour later after showering and getting properly dressed, you head to the dining hall to get a bite to eat. On your journey through the halls, and when you reach your destination, you notice that things seem... A lot emptier. Objectively, you had known that first years like you made up by far the majority of the college- the curriculum for the second semester of first year had a lot of rumors surrounding how it was designed to weed people out. But the archmage had skipped all that by cutting the first year class in half the first week. A few more weeks and the first year class would be down to almost nothing. You wondered when the archmage would stop, or if he would just go on until the only people left were the ones too important to be subject to the college's normal rules. You desperately hope that for once in your life, you count as one of those important people.

You walk a bit faster on your way to thank the TA for her help.

Finally, you get to her door and knock.

"Hello?" You call.

You hear a muffled "It's unlocked," and push the door open. The TA is once more in her pink pajamas, though this time she's managed to shatter the cool image you have of her in your mind even more by reading while lying down on the floor with her legs propped up on her bed.

"Uh." You try very hard not to stare. You'll just... Continue. Yes. "I just wanted to stop by and thank you for helping me out yesterday. I very much appreciate all the trouble you're going to."

The TA flaps a hand at you in response, the half of the book she lets go of falling on her face before she grabs it again and says. "It wasn't a big deal. Anyways, you can repay me by offering your opinion on this." She gestures with the whole book this time, pointing up at a diagram she has pinned up on her ceiling.

It's complicated.

"Take your time. I just want your thoughts on it." She says.

"What is it?" You ask.

She shakes her head. "I want your uninfluenced opinion on it."

You frown and stare at it. After five minutes, this causes some strain on your neck, and with a quick glance at the TA you lie down on her floor too.

An hour later, you still have no clue, and you say as much to the TA. She just nods, seeming unbothered, but asks you to come back tomorrow to look at it again.

With that, you leave her room.

What else do you do today (Choose 2)?
[] Look for Henry.
[] Look for Ruby.
[] Run into Viola.
[] Run into Adam.
[] Meet someone new.
[] Figure out you reputation at the College.

As no one has voted otherwise, Henry is officially staying at the college for the foreseeable future. On the one hand, no future climactic showdowns with Henry, Seeker of Glory, but on the other hand, you guys get to interact with him at the college.

[X] Meet someone new.
[X] Figure out you reputation at the College.

After this, let's talk to Henry.

As a heads up, I'm pretty swamped today and probably tomorrow, so assuming I'm being responsible, the vote won't be closed until tomorrow night.

Did we just spend an hour gazing at the ceiling and got smarter because of it? This is the best kind of college!
Deliberately missing the joke:

Well. We spent an hour staring at something that's a lot like a math equation we understand parts of but can't figure out the whole thing, and actually thinking about it and trying to work out what the parts we don't know mean, and by figuring out a few of them we increased our total understanding of how the subject works. This is entirely possible to do with a genuinely interested student using writing in a textbook, this is just on the ceiling, so we can do it lying down without having to use our arms to hold up the book. Undeniably better than the other version, but not as much as you're implying.

[X] Look for Ruby.
[X] Figure out your reputation at the College.

You yawn, then blink, surprised at yourself. Lying down on the TA's floor like that must have made you sleepy. Now... What to do with your Sunday? Much as you would like to completely take it easy, you have the feeling that you should figure out exactly what your reputation at the college is. You had originally thought that you weren't someone anyone would take much notice of, but according to Adam that was the opposite of what had happened. Well, you can guess what you suspect is most of the reason- Ruby was certainly a notable figure in the college, especially among the other first years who had witnessed what happened the first day. It was only natural that hanging around her as much as you did would draw attention to you. You scowl a bit at the thought. You hope it won't make trouble for you in the future.

Hmm. Thinking of Ruby, you wanted to check up on her today too. Rationally you know that she's definitely fine by now, but you still feel worried after seeing her get so hurt yesterday. You hesitate as you consider what to do first before deciding to attempt to kill two birds with one stone and go to the dining hall for Breakfast- er, Lunch. It was around lunch time, so your odds of running into Ruby were at least not awful, and either way there would be a lot of people you could potentially get some information out of.

When you get to the dining hall you immediately notice that something is wrong. Or at least, the atmosphere is incredibly tense, and it looks like Henry is at the center of it. Oddly, he doesn't seem to be reveling in the spotlight as much as you would have expected him to be given his personality. He's currently standing on a chair for some reason, getting angrily confronted by what looks to be a small group of other first years. You can't hear precisely what they're saying at this distance, but from what you do, you get the idea that some people are upset that he didn't get expelled even though he lost his fight yesterday. Honestly, you want to just start laughing at maximum volume when you hear that. It's hilarious. Looking at the quality of their clothing and their general bearing you know for sure that they're nobles. Pretty upper crust ones at that. Hah. You can't help it. You cover your mouth and giggle, desperately trying to contain your laughter.

Growing up having their every need catered to, always getting their way... This is probably the first time in their lives they've been exposed to the negative side of Diadem's one and only real rule; the powerful get whatever they want, and the weak had best hope they don't get trampled under foot. This is just too rich. Luckily everyone else seems to be too focused on the confrontation to have noticed your giggle fit. Come on Henry, you root for him mentally, show these rich bastards exactly how little they matter. You dimly note that you're perhaps being overly vindictive about this, but it's just too funny. Even now you're having a hard time keeping yourself restrained to tiny giggles.

Unfortunately, despite Henry's prominent height advantage with him standing on a chair, and despite the fact that he seems to have unconsciously posed as if to make some grand proclamation he's not actually saying anything. Just standing there and frowning as what looks to be the leader of the group of nobles keeps angrily speaking and gesticulating. His lack of action finally makes your giggle fit fade away, just leaving you annoyed. You scan around the dining hall, looking to see if you can spot Ruby anywhere. Unfortunately, no luck on that, but you do spot Adam. He's trying to do the loner in a corner thing, but it's really just coming off as sulking as he looks on at the incredibly irritating altercation going on with Henry. Well, he works. You stalk over to him and grab his arm, intent on dragging him out into a hallway so he can finally tell you what he meant about people being curious about you. He squawks a bit, but you ignore it as you pull on him and he settles down and just grumbles when he realizes it's you. You really expected more protest considering how much of a sourpuss he was when you nodded at him yesterday, but that suits you just fine.

Except, midway through dragging him away you're interrupted by a whoosh from behind you followed by a very loud series of clatters and a startled shout. You whirl around, spotting Henry now lying in the middle of a broken table looking kind of dazed with two of the idiot nobles standing over him, the other two in the process of making themselves scarce now that things seem to have escalated. For a moment, there's stunned silence in the dining hall.

You...
[] Nope. You're out. Continue dragging Adam out into a hallway to get answers as planned. You are definitely not getting involved.

[] Intervene somehow. Despite it probably being a bad idea, you do kind of like Henry. Besides, him owing you a favor might not be the worst thing in the world.
-[]How?

[] Wait. You don't really want to get in the middle of this, but you don't want to just abandon Henry either. It's not very decisive, but there's no need for you to be the one exposing yourself to risk here. Besides, you're pretty sure that some puffed up upper crust idiots are at least eventually going to be taught a lesson. You desperately hope so at least. It would really make your whole week.

Finals are over and done and with the winter break I now have plenty of time to get back to updating this quest. Sorry once again about the wait, but well, you know how it is. Life gets in the way of things.

Glad to see this back. I'm also glad I didn't win the vote for Henry going away, because then I couldn't do this:

[X] Plan 'A Beautiful Friendship'
[X] What Henry needs now is a friend. Unfortunately, you don't really want to draw that much attention.
-[X] Also Ruby might kill you if she finds out. She can't be happy with Henry right now.
-[X] Fortunately, you're holding onto a perfectly acceptable substitute right now.
[X] "Adam, you go to a school. You can't just ignore people all the time. You need to make friends."
-[X] Open a portal above the bullies (not too high!) and near Adam. Push him in.
[X] Offer a prayer to the Lady of Battles that Adam and Henry might form an unlikely friendship and be victorious over the bullies. She's into that kind of thing, right?
[X] Stick around for a few seconds to ensure that Henry actually does something, then go off and find Ruby unless the results are truly disastrous.

Saphira: "Every problem can be solved with the appropriate placement of portals."

Could we dump all the accumulated sand and ash in our 'inventory' to create a smokescreen and then drag Henry out without anyone realising we did it?

You could certainly dump all the sand and ash you have stored. With Planar teleport you could even use it to immediately create an incredibly effective smokescreen. As for realizing who did it, well I doubt many first years would, if any. I would comment that you may want to consider the dangers of dropping a sudden billowing cloud of ash and sand into a somewhat tense room full of magic users.

I suppose we could use some of the medium sized rocks as a distraction immediately before or after the smokescreen. That way if they panic at least it'll be in the wrong direction.
