[X] Portal past the spatial warping.
-[X] And continue to Ruby's room, even if it was a longshot.
You make a decision.
"Come on, we're going to Ruby's room." You tell Lusca. Then add "Tell me if I'm going to need to make a portal again to stay in the real hallways."
She gives a sharp nod but otherwise doesn't reply, and the two of you step through the portal you make and continue down the real hallway. It takes several more portals, more destruction of weak elementals, and a little bit of walking, but you get there. You don't see anyone else along the way.
Ruby's room is... As you would expect at first glance. Door ajar, and you get the feeling it's not the kind of ajar where she forgot to close it all the way, but rather the kind of ajar where she slammed it open and it rebounded back. Inside, it's about what you expected- room mostly intact, except for the pile of rubble that you assume to be both the wall of her room and the elemental it temporarily became.
Nothing here seems to be of any particular use, and like you expected, Ruby herself is nowhere to be found. Maybe if you retraced-
"As expected. No useful information here. We should retrace her steps." Lusca interrupts your train of thought with the same conclusion, before turning around to do exactly that. You fight down a brief flash of irritation. It's not like she was doing anything wrong, it's just that being preempted when you already had the idea yourself was annoying.
You follow her as she walks back along the path the both of you had just taken. It was the shortest route between your room and Ruby's and it was therefore the most likely path for her to have taken. After a moment, Lusca stops you, holding out an arm wordlessly. By now you've gotten used to this, so you feel out the spatial distortion. It seems straightforward. It wasn't one of the ones you had to portal past on your way here however, because it's entrance only faced the direction of Ruby's room. After a moment the both of you step forward and enter it. There's no feeling of transition. If you didn't know it was there already, entering it wouldn't have alerted you to its presence.
The both of you then set out to the task of trying to retrace Ruby's most likely path.
---
Because of Lusca, it takes almost no time at all. Without her... You're not sure you would have been able to find Ruby at all. The Archmage had set up a nasty trap. A section of the spatial distortion that when entered closed its exit and became an infinite loop of the same fifty feet of hallway. According to Lusca, Ruby was currently bashing walls to pieces only to go through them and end up in the same section of corridor she had been in the entire time. Luckily, there weren't any special protections on the closed off area of space- a simple portal should do it.
"Ruby!" You call, after having opened an exit.
She turns around, startled, before running over to and through your portal with an impressive degree of haste. You see it coming, but don't bother making the futile attempt to dodge her hug. Luckily, it's over quickly, because being hugged in front of someone you barely know like Lusca is a bit embarrassing.
"Saphira! Thank you so much for getting me out of whatever that was!" She makes a noise of revulsion and shivers with what you can only describe as extreme distaste. "Trust me when I say that punching your way through a wall only to end up back in the same hallway over and over again is not an enjoyable experience." She grimaces. "It's kind of claustrophobic really."
A moment later she notices Lusca and not so subtly steps between the two of you. You raise an eyebrow at her back, but decide not to say anything.
"And who is this?" She asks without turning to look at you.
"I am Lusca." Lusca herself replies, seeming not to be phased by Ruby's obvious suspicion.
"I see." Is Ruby's reply.
After a moment of tension, you take the opportunity to intervene and say "She helped me find you."
After a beat, Ruby makes a noise of assent and nods, before turning back to you.
"So, what's the plan for how we approach the rest of the Archmage's little 'lesson'? I don't know about you, but I want to get this over with."
Lusca looks to you as well, seeming to have little desire to take the initiative.
Search the college for someone specific before deciding how to approach the rest of this 'test'? (You may make multiple choices)

How will you approach the rest of the 'test'?
[] Enter a real part of the college and hole up until whatever the Archmage's test is is finished. The three of you together should be enough to stand up to whatever the Archmage has planned.
[] Search the college for anyone else trapped like Ruby was. You don't want to break the Archmage's rules by helping for the sake of helping, but if you see anyone strong enough to be useful, it would be justifiable under the Archmage's rules.
[] Now that you've found Ruby, the plan to wait this out Somewhere is looking much more attractive. You, Ruby, and Lusca can play cards or something for a few hours and check every once in a while to see if things are over.
