I hope there's no rule against shipping! Some of the best I've found in the years of fanfic-reading is:
Chasing the paradox by nemaline (Doctor who)
This one's Doctor/Master and screws around with the timeline a lot - and does it well! The depiction of their relationship, far deeper and more complex than a simple romantic one, is what makes this fic so impressive.
Gray by
hiholly123 (Doctor who X Jessica Jones)
This one I rec because it plays with the Tenth Doctor's mental state so well. Right after The Waters of Mars, the Tenth Doctor meets Jessica Jones. She thinks he's Kilgrave... which makes him doubt himself far, far more then what counts as healthy.
Castaway by
ariaadagio (Lucifer)
Chloe Decker/Lucifer. A long-ass fic, but this captured the side of Lucifer that the tv show failed to. Both Heartbreaking and heartwarming fic.
Good Endings by
WyvernQuill (Good Omens)
Fluffy. It's just about getting Aziraphale and Crowely together, but it's written so well, and it's so hilarious.
dearly departed by
attheborder (Good Omens)
Legitimate plot. Really felt like I was reading a legit short story, and of course, had the Good Omens fluffiness and lightheartedness.
In Person by
ironychan (Marvel)
This one's about Jarvis turning into a human and its ramifications, as corporations and people take interest in his human form. Amusing read.
More Than Gravity by
JenTheSweetie (Marvel)
Tony Stark/Steve Rogers. Ehhh.. don't read this if you don't like the ship, or shipping in general, but it features time travel and a very christmas-miracley atmosphere. Makes you smile at the end.
The Long Road Begins at Home by
owlet (Marvel)
Wasn't sure about reccing this since it's 90% fluff, but it's a 50-chapter fic that deals with the Winter Soldier's psychological trauma. That counts as awesome in my books.
It's a sequel to
this, you protect, but this one was the most striking of the whole series.
Of Monstrous Shape by
RosaLui (DareDevil)
This fic is only one chapter long, but it's so
awesome. Go and read it.
Enigma by
Yahtzee (X-men)
Erik/Charles, and it has something to it that makes me melancholy. Basically a time-travel fix-it, but it's so well-written.
Time And Relative Mischief in Space by
Taranea (Doctor who X Marvel)
Legitimate plot. Loki and the Tenth Doctor goes to adventure in a snow-covered planet. The author draws parallels ingeniously, and the plot captures the reader till the end.
Housekeeping by
Ennya (Dark Knight)
This centers around an OC who encounters the Joker. OC is a housekeeper, Joker a passing customer at the hotel she works at. The only OC-centric story I read that I actually liked.
I see into the storm is already on the masterlist, but the rest of the son of suns trilogy (star wars original trilogy) is sooo excellent, so...
In Shadows and Darkness
At the Brink of the Dawn and the Darkness
Both by
blank101
This trilogy's best of the best. Really. It's fricking awesome. Gives you that contentness you feel only after you read a really, really great book.
