My 'problem' is with a lack of history based characters, sure, they are less known but we do have quite a few.

Bragadin was apart of basically the Venetian Marines and went to fight the Ottomans becoming the Captain of Cyprus. When he was trying to evacuate and negotiate with the Ottomans to save the people of Famagusta in Cypress he was accused of killing a Turkish diplomat. He was flayed alive and hanged from their vessels as punishment... he likely didn't do it.
It may have been a punishment for him being an incredibly skilled defender of the city against Ottoman aggression, his skin was taking from his body and was used as a... trophy. Stolen back to Venice in 1850 where he became a national hero.
