Sympathy for the Forsaken: A Warcraft-AU CK2 Quest

[X] Solid Solliden plan

I want First of the Guard already. Time to show people what the Forsaken can really do.

[X] Solid Solliden plan.

Aside from really getting our proper spy network working, this works very well for me.

Imagine if we end up being future peacekeepers between the horde and alliance.

Remember, Canon is kinda out the window. At the moment, they really isn't an Alliance in the Eastern Kingdoms. Both Ironforge, and Stormwind been ruined as far as we know. They Kul Tiras, but they utter blockade themselves with an Shoot On Sight policy. Still no idea on Thearmore, the Horde, Night Elves, and possible Stormwind survivors lead by Varian that fled West looks like.

[X]War of the Spire

Interlude: The War of the Spire
The War of the Spire

Following the Second War, many of the orcs of the former Horde had been captured and sent to interment camps deep within the territory of former alliance leaders. These camps, while distasteful to some, were considered a better alternative than mass murder by the leaders of the Alliance. Post-Scourge Orc and Troll polities would heavily disagree with this notion and tensions regarding the treatment of Horde PoWs following the Second War would cause much internal strife even for the second Alliance. Thrall himself campaigned for some sort of reparations; though with Kul Tiras being the only still existent, non-refugee nation of the original Alliance still around, and its rather xenophobic stance; he soon dropped the measure shortly after the Rage Fire Rebellion.

However not all orcs were captured and bundled up into poorly made camps. A number of orcs, trolls and ogres had fled into the once great citadel of Blackrock Mountain. There, the two children of the former Warchief Blackhand, Dal'Rend and Maim Blackhand, took control of the few remaining survivors. Part of the militaristic and brutal Blackrock Clan, the two siblings and much of their followers were heirs to the original brutality and savagery of the pre-Doomhammer Horde and promoted fel worship, blood sacrifice and an utter lack of civilian life. Out of the scattered remains of those who had followed them into the mountain they formed the Dark Horde, a revanchist, reactionary version of the Horde that in many ways played to its worst tendencies. They were further boosted by an alliance with Nefarian, the son of the Dragon Aspect Deathwing, who reinforced their armies with dragonspawn. With these forces the Dark Horde began a campaign of conquest against the native Dark Iron dwarfs.

The Dark Iron were backed up by the forces of the Elemental Lord Ragnaros and thus were able to send fire elementals and other beasts of flame against the dragon and Horde armies. This created a bloody stalemate that persisted until news of the Scourge's spread moved into the mountain. Ironforge was in complete disarray, a matter of extreme worry to Emperor Dagran Thaurissan's young bride, Moira Bronzebeard. Originally a captive of the Dark Iron from a slave raid, Moira had managed to win the heart of the master of the Dark Iron, who freed her and named her his empress. The two had concocted a plan to break from from Ragnaros's grasp and lead the Dark Iron out of Blackrock Mountain. With the kingdom of her father in utter collapse Moira suggested that the Dark Iron would be seen as heroes if they lead an expedition to save Ironforge. Dagran was hesitant to so openly defy the Lord of Elemental Fire; especially as the creature had moved many of its overseers and Twilight Hammer cultists up into the inhabited part of the mountain.

Events beyond Dagran's control forced his hand however. Nefarian, the great Black Dragon, was not unaware of the intrigues of the imperial court. The Scourge was burning at the edge of Dark Iron territory but the hot environment of the Burning Steppes had forced it into Stormwind. Now the Lion's capital was bathed in the fire of his sister and her villages at the mercy of the living dead. Nefarian had suggested that Dal'Rend and Maim begin to openly petition the Burning Legion; for while a servant of darker master's than the Legion, the benefits of demonic auxiliaries would outweigh the possibility of them finding his true allegiances. If the Dark Irons were to be removed from the picture, then his conquest of the entire mountain would be all the easier. So in his human form, the rather poorly named Victor Nefarius, came to Emperor Thaurissan and gave him a deal. The Dark Horde would launch a major assault on the lower parts of the Mountain, forcing the Fire Lord to scramble its armies to resist the incursion. In the chaos the Horde would leave an opening that the Emperor would 'heroically' charge with the vast majority of the Dark Irons. And then keep charging, gathering all of this people and leading them to Ironforge while Ragnaros dealt with the Dark Horde armies.

Not seeing a better option, the Emperor agreed and the deal was made. Soon a major force of Dark Horde, dragonkin and, most worryingly, demons of the Legion attacked the forces of Ragnaros. Fear welling in the Fire Lord's heart at the sight of demons, it lost all sense and ordered every slave under its thrall to repel the invaders. The battle was long and bloody, with the bridges and tunnels of the mountain becoming choked with bodies, until the Dark Horde seemingly faced a crack in its lines. The Emperor personally took command and sounded the charge, pushing through the break in the orcish lines with every single dwarf he could muster. The Dark Ions flowed through the opening like water through a sieve, and just kept flowing. Out of the gates of the mountains and onto the fields of the Burning Steppe, where they crushed the patrolling elementals and gathered up a great many of the Dark Iron outside the mountain. There the passed through the Stonewrought Pass and into the Valley of Kings, where they destroyed a Scourge host and rescued a band of Ironforge dwarves that told them of the fall of the great capital. Swearing revenge Emperor Dagran declared himself lord of the Council of Three Hammers marched into Dun Morogh proper, where he and his expedition found, death, destruction and signs of evacuation.

Back in Blackrock Mountain the Fire Lord was insane with rage over the betrayal of its supposedly loyal slaves, but Ragnaros had little time to worry about that. For the full wrath of the Dark Horde quickly fell upon the elemental's few remaining servants and slowly pushed them back, closer and closer to the molten core of the mountain. Nefarian himself, in his full form, lead the alongside Dal'Rend and Maim; sweeping aside the foe wherever they found them. However as they reached the gates to the deepest depths of the mountains, the massed formations of Ragnaros were too much for even this great force to bear. So Nefarian decided that, if he could not kill Ragnaros, he would instead make sure that the elemental would never bother him or his allies again.

Great stones and beams of iron were brought to the depths and fel and dragon fire mixed as the Dark Horde labored to seal the molten core away. The magic of the Legion and the dark calls of the Old Gods were used both in liberal supply as the massive, rune covered stone was placed over the entrance to the depths of hte mountain and bands of enchanted iron were melted across it. When the Dark Horde was finished a powerful seal had been put upon the depths, lulling Ragnaros back to sleep and preventing all but the hardiest from entering to disturb the fire lord. Nefarian, always the schemer, had kept a single stone of power on his person, one that could open up the door and free the fire lord once more. If the Old Gods called for him to fully embrace the world in their might, he may have need of Ragnaros.

The Dark Horde celebrated long into the night and quickly moved to take over the abandoned Dark Iron positions on the outside of the Burning Steppe. The forces of the Legion, suspicious of the dark magics Nefarian had used, were still convinced to return to the Bad Lands and continue their work on trying to restore the Dark Portal. The remaining Twilight Hammer cultists were gathered up under the black drake and moved to top of the spire, where they helped him continue his work on the Chromatic Dragonflight. The Dark Horde, bolstered by their victory, would send troops to Onyxia to aid her in her struggles further to the south, and would eventually become a major obstacle on the lead up to the Burning Crusade.

I figured it was Blackrock, and not Windrunner Spire, but this is downright awful. At the very least, the Dark Irons are freed from Ragnaros, and seem to be in the process of reclaiming Ironforge from the Scourge. (Possible a future ally to the Forsaken. Likely even since I always loved the Dark Iron and Moria. She and Sylvanas would get along very well I like to think.)

The rest of it? The Dark Horde total conquest of Blackrock and this unholy mix of Fel and Void to put Ragnaros to sleep, and even the Dark Portal beined worked on, and the hinted fall of Stormwind again...

The only other good thing is all of this seem to be major roadblock to the Burning Legion.)

I'm also interesting at the mention of a Second Alliance and the tensions from the regarding the treatment of Horde PoWs (Which to be fair, the Horde still mass murder everything from Stormwind in the First War, to the gates of the Capital City in the Second...soo...) The whole idea of reparations does seem to be a dead letter idea given all the other EKs are gone, left as refugee nations, utterly sealed off, or simply didn't have anything to do with it (IE: Night Elves.) to me seemed more like chest banging, and even Thrall was smart enough to just drop it. (After Rage Fire Rebellion? Something to do with the Burning Blade? More Orc revanchists?)

So who exactly are the Dark Irons?

They one of the three Dwarf clans/nation in Warcraft. During the War of Three Hammers, they came fairly close to conquering Ironforge, and the Wildhammers, but was beaten back by both. In a attempt to save themselves from the marching Ironforge, and Wildhammers, the Emperor at that time Thaurissan, summon Ragnaros, creating both the Searing Gorge and the Burning Steppes, and causing Ragnaros to enslave the Dark Iron clan.

In Canon, Moria became the Empress and lead the Dark Iron to a path of redemption and joining the Alliance.

Interesting

So all alliance nations are more fucked up than in canon WoW, but the Dark Iron Dwarves are actually good right now.

I wonder what is happening in Kalimdor

From the mention of 'refugee nations' and a Rage Fire Rebellion the Horde had to deal with which made Thrall just drop the idea of reparations, it can't be in great shape.

I'm actually surprised they even is a Alliance to speak of.

Kul Tiras being the only still existent, non-refugee nation of the original Alliance still around

Hold on. Didn't Quel'Thalas also have non-refugee policy? Kind of a xenophobic stance of getting every not high elf out of their borders? Did it change here?

The forces of the Legion, suspicious of the dark magics Nefarian had used

When the unstoppable army of demons thinks what you do is evil, maybe you should stop for a second lol.

So did I get it correctly: the Black Horde is still the Legion's asset and it's allied with Nefarian. Nefarian is not keen on having the Legion over, but not against using BH against his enemies. Ragnaros is sealed in a mountaint with powerfull magics by BH & Nefarian; evil dwarves stopped being evil and reunited with their bretheren, who had been devastated before. Oh, and Stormwind is seriously fucked up. Also, there is a mention of Thrall, but not a word about Jaina. So either she's dead, different from canon or something else.

Kul Tiras and Gilneas are isolationists.

Then we are what remains of Lordaeron

Stormwind apparently fell

Dalaran is still being rebuilt? Do we actually know? Is there a giant forcefield in that place in this universe?

We can almost guess what happens with the Queldorei slowly becoming Sindorei, or resorting to something else now that the Sunwell is out.

I suppose Hillsbrad Foothills might have some surviving hamlets?

Alterac moutains and its kingdom was already in ruins.

I guess Jaina has at least a group of functioning people?

Jeez, the world is a mess right now

[LAMENT OF THE HIGHBORNE INTENSIFIES]

Arthas still sacked Quel'Thalas in this timeline; and price Kael'thas may or may not be on this plane of existence right now; so theres not really a organized polity up north in the Eversong woods. Sylvanas is also pretty sure the Scourge got permanently further in towards Silvermoon than they did in canon.

Yeah, but I thought the piece talked about the events after the Second War. Which is like 20ish years before the Scourge.
