SV Original Magical Girl Crossover

(and frankly Invidia and Avaritia would make pretty good Friendship and Justice respectively after their inevitable but not yet textual defections)

The Spenserian virtues (from The Faerie Queene, where the name Gloriana's from) don't have to just be limited to ALV characters though, like one could go to Sasori as he's already a Knight, and Knight of Courtesy would work for Skiold.

Actually, having a similar but different set of virtues feels very Ultima, which is fitting given how much that series inspired Western, Japanese, and MMO RPGs

SillyLittleCoffe also talked about his MGs Kyoko being a Witch due to her self-image and Rose being a 'Diva' (which may need more elaboration, but isn't meant musically), and we had a discussion about Hibiki from Fool Bloom being a Prince, possibly a Dark Prince specifically.

TLDR, Rose Hastings is introduced in Something Wicked with very poor self-esteem and a self-image fixated on being 'cute', 'nice', and 'fun' because she's struggling with depression and views her older sister Daisy as being better at everything useful and meaningful. In the quest, this hasn't had a chance to develop just yet, but I thought it would be interesting to take Rose in a positive direction for this crossover. To that end, I thought I'd assign her a similar Damsel role to Zaiyu in the beginning, and then have Rose eventually hijack her role and transform it into something more suitable for her: a Diva. Which, in this case, is also channeling theatre production and to an extent the bard class in D&D. This isn't meant to imply that Rose is a particularly musical person--her hobbies of choice are fashion and video games--but it is meant to suggest that she can be an inspiring and overwhelming presence with her own aura of majesty. She may not be a STEM student or an artistic genius, but she has her own talents. And she recently set a man on fire by critting her magic awakening in quest canon so I believe in her reservoir of mana and willpower.

We also haven't really gone much into the locations and world design of Val sans Retour yet. I can understand wanting to keep things simple here, with a Castle, Town/City, and maybe Forest all included, with them gradually being corrupted (turned into the Wasteland, to use another Arthurian term).

If that's maybe a little too basic though, I also considered drawing inspiration from Brittany, the French region where the actual Val sans Retour is traditionally located. In lore, you also had Merlin's tomb-tree and the Barenton fairy fountain nearby, and with Brittany in general you also have the Carnac stones, Pink Granite Coast, the former pirate town of St Malo, and mythically the sunken city of Ys. The abbey of Mont Saint Michael is just across the border in Normandy and it, Ys, or a combination of the two could be good inspiration for the look of Gloriana's castle.

Outside of Brittany though, I also thought to take inspiration from Neuschwanstein Castle, as I feel Ludwig II surrounding himself with fairytales and legends is quite thematically relevant here. We could also throw in more fairytale-inspired locations if we have space, like a Gingerbread House, maze of Thorns, Flying Castle atop a beanstalk, etc.

I was expecting kind of a surreal shojo dreamscape that relies on fairytale archetypes and symbolism, in the vein of Ohtori Academy from Utena and the ballet school from Princess Tutu,

Well, no reason we couldn't use real world locations as an inspiration for a surreal shojo dreamscape. Goldcrown Town in Princess Tutu I believe was based on actual German town. Down for the Ys music though

...Am currently writing a chapter, but if we're taking music suggestions...

Well, Fillia's currently pulling off a stupidly hard thing and completely parrying every hit from an enemy that she shouldn't be able to parry...

Fuck I broke her so much and Chats too smart for my narrative lmao~

Love it.

Listening to this as she parries scythe blow after scythe blow in a desperate struggle.

*Help! She wasn't meant to parry any of these! ANY!?*

I may have to make a BGM compilation post later on. But in the meantime, I finally wanted to get around to that 'things to save for the sequel' list I said I'd make. Let me know if I've missed anything in the discussion:
  • Magical Girl Parallel Inversion, The Core of One's Being, Ice Cream Ladies, and Fruit of the Shadowflower as possible new crossovers
  • Detailing the other Magical Girls in Ayaka's world
  • The newt-fused Nanase becoming a MG or at least MG mascot herself
  • More background on Huli (possibly more focus on Ayaka's scientist father?)
  • Going into the pre-Nanase Conductors the Val sans Retour had before it blew up, and the forms Gloriana took for them
  • More intertwining of the crossed-over worlds, e.g., how the Estil, Shades, and Pathragadans interacted back in the day
  • More delving into the exact nature of the God of Fantasy and Reality
Given the first story hasn't started yet, obviously this list isn't set in stone.

Thy-Robocop also suggested this as a plot for a possible sequel:
Huli tries to replicate the success of La Val Sans Retour and Nanase/Gloriana's effect on it for future stories, and the original magical girls involved in the crossover, as well as many others, join in to stop Huli once and for all.
I do have a problem with it though, in that it sounds a little too 'the same, but more'. But obviously we should focus on said original for now

Discord suggestion
My suggestion would be to move things to a discord server over a DM.

For one, the ability to create a few different channels or the like will allow for more organizational work to be done, with threading conversations and fairly empty outline channels that can really do a lot of work to help keep a project organized, which will be something of an ask with this many writers wanting to work on it to varying extents.

If the project gets fans, it's easy enough to have an author role and keep limited info in role-restricted channels while also having a public discussion channel too, that's fairly normal for bigger SV works and, assuming this pans out, a good way to handle mixed synchronicity I think.

One problem I can think of with a Discord server though is it wouldn't be the best place for beta-reading chapters. While you can make longer posts on Discord, up to a certain wordcount, it's made with shorter posts in mind.

Edit: Though as you said, a Discord server does make it much easier to keep track of several things at once than a forum thread or group PM. ideas getting buried beneath posts has been a bit of a problem on this thread so far

My suggestion we focus on the dark magical girls [how much of either one of those qualifications they actually are is up to debate] who work under Huli and for added connection we can have that team be specifically have the job of fighting against Ayaka
(if we do go for this we absolutely need them to do the pathetic putting up posters searching for help)
My suggestion would be to move things to a discord server over a DM.
A link when or if this happens I like planning out these

The Practice War, Phantasm Arm Ballad, and Farfalla Rossa, barring their authors changing their mind, can be ruled out.
So somewhat against my better judgement and entirely the fault of @Baughn but I'm not so much against PW's inclusion as unsure how it would work without breaking a bunch of things.

I'm still catching up on reading this thread, however, so I'll see if things have or have not been finalised before writing up my potential (heh, inside joke) concerns for integrating someone like Amanda into this idea. On longer thought since seeing the idea I don't think it's impossible, and it would be fun to contribute to a shared work like this.

There are just elements that would require some careful handling.

Chapters themselves should probably be docs or something regardless of communication method. Gdocs is good with multiple editors, as is Dropbox (though a bit messier).

So I'm now thinking of Discord for more specialised discussion and shorter chat and comments, GDocs for chapters to beta-read, and keeping this thread going for any longer comments aside from chapters. Using Spoopy's book club idea as an example, someone's spontaneous comments on the various MG stories here would fit better on Discord, while any longer analysis could go here.

My suggestion we focus on the dark magical girls

Given several characters here are already villain protagonists, this idea makes sense. But again, let's focus on the first story for now.

On longer thought since seeing the idea I don't think it's impossible, and it would be fun to contribute to a shared work like this.

Helps in TPW's case that we've mostly moved away from the integrated universe idea (haven't entirely abandoned it, but it's not our current focus). Either way, thanks for turning up!

Ah, I had given court mage to Koyomi more to be a heroic role. Kinda like that court mage from skyrim who's a distrusted recluse who protects the area, though he does some awful stuff for you.
Anyway, sorceress' apprentice seems a good role for Miyako.
"You must Seek Out the Sage in the Sunken Depths of a mythical city" intensifies.

Meanwhile, Fillia: ... Why am I underwater?!
This just reminds me of the Up is Down scene from Pirates of the Caribbean. Could be a way for them to reach the city.
Listening to this as she parries scythe blow after scythe blow in a desperate struggle.
Good playlist! Edit: Oh, wait, it's a playlist made for me by youtube, because you linked a song from your mix. Huh.
For Nanase and the familiar. Instead of the familiar being barely sentient, it could just decide to pass on the power to her and then fade away. I think it would be affirming for her to be specifically trusted and chosen as someone's successor.
For fairy tale inspiration. How about a bit of The Ice Queen? The mirror that only shows life's ugliness, and is the cause of Kai going away with the Queen and isolating himself. The mirror could a portal to the wasteland hidden away into the depths of the castle, in an area where the bleed over is stronger as you go deeper. Hmm, I kinda like the idea of the transition being gradual, so maybe instead have and intermediary are filled with mirrors?
And mirrors in the kingdom could sometimes show weird things, the cracks in the fantasy or things that would drive people away from reality.
Huh, I'm accidentally recreating some elements from Omori. The mirrors usually show the party happy but sometimes shows them scary and distorted. The mental world is divided into the pleasant fantasy Headspace, the blank White Space, and the nightmarish Black Space, that holds the traumatic events.

The Practice War info
So, on reading through...I think I have a way to make this work, a couple of them actually. But the main problem is centred on the nature of PW's world, and the scale that the MG-adjacent members of the cast operate at. I'm going to try fail at going into this quickly, as PW runs long and teasing out the lore can be hard. Please only read as much of this as you like, I will try to make what follows make sense without it:

Humanity reached for the stars and soon after met tragedy. In that tragedy, an invasion of a race known only as the Shiplords, they lost everything. Mars burned, and when the Shiplords advanced upon Earth through the wreckage and extinction of humanity's defenders, they demanded 90% of the adult population. These were selected at random by the Shiplords, extracted from the planet, and then the Shiplords left. In the spiralling darkness that followed, a result of the Shiplords also declaring all of humanity's biotechnology cause to exterminate them if it was continued to be used - the first Potentials woke.

Potentials are wielders of the titular Practice of TPW. Practice itself was born of the sacrifice of humanity's protectors, a race of sentient draco-forms the size of starships that flew together with human crews against the Shiplords when they started torching the outer system habitats. The Dragons lost, but somewhere in their death, shared with that of many humans and all wanting to protect their home, they were able to overcome certain limitations and leave something behind.

Potentials are attuned to a Focus, an aspect of their self that is central or core or defining of who they are. This can take many, many forms, but the protagonist of the series is a Mender, so let's focus just on that. Practice in its base state allowed Potentials to create tools and systems and in some cases pure ideas that were far beyond the limits of the human mind to produce. Some of these were one-and-done solutions to problems, some of their work would stick around in ways, and some of it was best kept on them. The term for the latter is, perhaps predictably, Artefacts.

Practice does also affect the bodies of the people who wield it, however, transforming them steadily into their ideal of self - this doesn't stop aging, but humanity largely didn't care about that anymore at this point. Amanda, my protagonist, is in her late seventies. She has not visibly aged since hitting her mid-20s and is unlikely to ever do so. To return to effects, at a basic level Potentials are usually more durable and somewhat stronger than a regular human. They don't need to breathe, can exist without issue in a vacuum, and there's some other stuff I'm probably forgetting. This sort of Potential would be quite possible to integrate I think, with most of their power coming from the tools they create and the instincts their Focus can give them.
None of my core cast are 'regular' Potentials.

In time, Potentials learnt how to shape the world around them far more deeply with their Practice, though they were broadly restricted by their Focus - there's a reason for this, I'm not getting into it - in what they could do. These lines started to waver when people worked out how to weave Practice into Words that could essentially command things of reality, but where they really began breaking was with the Unisonbound.

These are where the more traditional MG associations began in story, as well. Unisonbound have a Device similar to those in Nanoha (in some ways) that synchronises with their soul to create a new intelligence. The resulting combination...well. Unisonbound can fly, directly wield the energy they access through their Focus in tangible forms, manipulate the force output of their motions to the point that they can poke someone gently in the chest at 30% of lightspeed with no consequences except to the person being poked and generally would make Nanoha jealous in terms of how combat capable they are. They're also all highly trained in how to use these abilities in combat.

You can probably see how this becomes a problem.

Amanda has, personally, called power to her hand that could arguably make her a Kardashev Type 2 civilisation by herself. She does not do this often, but that isn't out of a lack of ability. It's out of a lack of need. Her ability to manipulate her power starts out at low-end reality warper, though restricted (somewhat) by her Focus of Mending and extends from there.

She's spent two decades as one of the leaders of the Two Twenty Three, itself a very small and elite group among the Potentials - and has all the leadership, combat training and everything else you'd expect from that. She's been a Potential since her mid teens, which are at this point sixty years in her past, and wields her Focus of Mending as easily as she breathes. She's smart, kind, deeply experienced and incredibly empathic.

In short, Amanda is way too OP if I just port her in directly. And then there's how she absolutely despises the idea that children should in any way need to fight. That's what adults are meant to do. Children are meant to be protected.

My current suggestions, therefore, all revolve around having her end up as one of the amnesia cast and remaining without her memories and full capabilities for almost the entire story. I could honestly see this as a very interesting thing to write, and there are a lot of roles she could fall into in that. I have a few ideas in mind there, some of them very subtly using her desire to protect children against her so that the memory-modify sticks for so long. I'll get to them in a later post.

With all that said, and god this is over a thousand words with the spoiler (sorry!) I do think it's possible. At this point half this post is my putting ideas to paper and half of it is hoping that people will find them interesting enough to see woven into a shared story.

There's another possible route I could take with this, not involving Amanda at all, but two of the characters there started out as expies that @Baughn injected into the story via omake as best friends to Amanda's AI daughter (it's complicated) and could be a bit more complicated for me to write. Certainly more likely to be in theme, but there'd be other limitations to overcome.

Travelling home after NY this afternoon, but I'll not be driving so I'll keep an eye on the thread and maybe write up some more of my ideas then or when we get to our hotel.

@Baughn this is all your fault.

Mikki should remember that she's not allowed to use inter-dimensional transit without her safety-Iris. And therefore Aya and Nei too.

Do watch the dimensional Anomaly that is Filia.

Probably more of a reality Anomally really. Like a black hole. But one that sucks in every reality and spits it out into a mess of tangles spaghetti needing to be untangled and rewoven into a fabric of proper reality.

Karma and fate hate her.

Fae beings despise her.

Here's one girl that Reality and Time don't want you to know about.

Get it now for just 500 thousand words!

Get A Magical Anomally.

Character Questions
Happy new year everyone!

To start things off for the new year, I realise now that there is an important step that I forgot to mention in terms of what we need to work out for the next stage of the development of this project. So far, we have the lynchpin elements from the story, a list of characters who will be participating in the crossover, and some idea of how to practically manage the project. What is missing so far, and this is a rather important bit, is: what are the characters that you are volunteering for the crossover going to be doing to advance the plot of the first story? After all, this is a magical girl multicrossover story, not just Ayaka's missiong to rescue and reabsorb her doppelgänger from an "evil" Princess and a creepy marionette in order to save a friend from corruption. XD

To help you all work this part out, I'd like to ask you all a couple of questions:
  1. As a writer contributing to this project, what goals would you like to achieve within the first story of the project? E.g.
    1. Do you want to have your characters help advance Ayaka's or Nanase's story? For example, be there to call Ayaka out for trying to reabsorb Nanase, or give Nanase a hug while the world breaks down around her, or smash that annoying marionette's face in?
    2. Or are you more in it to see your character interact with another character from a different setting? If so, which characters would you like to see your characters cross over with the most, and what sort of outcome are you aiming from that interaction?
    3. Do you wish to explore some aspects of your characters that haven't been or can't be explored in your story?
  2. What are your character's goals within the story?
    1. If on Team Breakout:
      1. how did your character come across Mathurine and/or Gloriana? Did they kidnap and mindwipe your character? Or did they make a deal that your character could to refuse? Are they looking to escape their lives, or do they hope to get something specific out of this world? Or perhaps they are just there keep an eye out for a friend who has fallen for Mathurine's offer hook, line and sinker?
      2. How does Gloriana make them suitable for the role they are playing? Are they being assigned to a specific story or quest, or are they being hired by Gloriana as and when she needs to run a story for Nanase? How much do they interact with Nanase anyway?
      3. What prompts them to regain their memories in the story? Or, if they have regained their memories, what makes them decide they need to get away right now?
      4. How do they plan to escape? Confront Gloriana? Kidnap Nanase? Find Risa's ghost? Or some more subtle investigation/sabotage?
    2. If on Team Break-in:
      1. How does your character receive the call to visit la Val Sans Retour? Did they find Ayaka's message and investigate it? Did Ayaka meet them in person? Or are they there for their own purposes, but Mathurine partnered them with Ayaka's break-in team?
      2. What is your character's goal once they reach the Valley of No Return?
      3. How do they plan to approach this? Do they stick with Ayaka and follow her lead? Does Ayaka follow their lead instead? Or does your character split off on their own adventure once they enter the world, leaving Ayaka to fend for herself?
Hope this prompts some ideas!

——

Earlier in the thread, I originally suggested using Aleph's and EarthScorpion's Christmas Catastrophe story as a template, which is one story with a single plot to follow. In our case, that story would be Ayaka's and Nanase's. But depending on the answers to the above questions, it may be that not everyone will be happy for their characters to be stuck on an escort mission with original characters instead of interacting with crossover characters.

As an alternative to a single storyline, we could do something similar to what Wizards of the Coast do for the online story they publish for each Magic The Gathering set they release. In the more recent stories they have published, they usually have a set of Main stories that advance the main story of the set, and a number of Side Stories, usually centered around some notable side characters (including the Face cards of the Commander Decks for their set). In the more recent Phyrexia: All Will be One and March of the Machine sets, the side stories were more integrated with the main plot, as the former followed members of the "break-in" team that had become separate from each other and from what became the main story team, while in March of the Machine there was a Main story about fighting against the Phyrexian multiverse invasion, and a set of Side Stories showing how the non-planeswalker characters from a specific plane dealt with the invasion of their plane.

Perhaps the latter may be a better alternative for the story structure if not everyone wishes to participate in Ayaka and Nanase's story specifically? It could also allow some writers to develop their own story without having to wait for a specific previous chapter to be completed.

Let me know what you think!

In short, Amanda is way too OP if I just port her in directly.
Honestly I dunno if this is a problem at all lol. Super Robot Wars has cheerfully thrown every other show into the Gurren Lagann finale before, after all. Just chalk it up to "reality warping powers scale things right" or "everybody has been made stronger by the power of humanity's wishes and infinite potential, chawa".

SRW is a pretty good help for this kinda thing.

Terada: It's never easy to work out consistency in a story. There are things I want to show off in a scenario, but I have to constantly wrack my brain over how to balance it for a simulation RPG. When I'm feeling lost, I take another look at old Kamen Riders and Ultramans to remind myself what a crossover is. Old crossovers are super simplistic, you know? In The Return of Ultraman, Ultra Seven would show up with no real explanation, hand over the Ultra Bracelet, and leave again. (laughs)
Terada: Exactly! Like when we put Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann in SRW, I just couldn't figure out what to do about the Tengen Toppa thing. I talked with the (Gurren Lagann) script writer Kazuki Nakashima about it, and he gave a gracious suggestion, "Everybody's Tengen Toppa."

1) I think primarily my goal here is just to have Hayate and Skiold bounce off other cast members as much as possible, see how they fare when removed from the usual context of their own story. I think I would be pretty down to have them interact with either Ayaka and Nanase's plotlines (Skiold for the former, given he's outside, and Hayate for the latter) as well as whoever else's characters are also just awkwardly hanging around -- all of this is extremely divorced from their regular life (fictional Japan circa 2026 AD), so it'd be easy to get small talk going on about how weird everything is. I haven't caught up to everybody else's stories yet so I don't know who specifically they'd best gel with, but for Hayate at least if there's anybody whose driving day-to-day motivations are to torrent movies onto the HDD: give a call.

Actually the much more blatantly magic side of this will give me a chance to have much more Eidola Strela content versus Hayate's day-to-day, and a lot more Skiold day-to-day versus his usual "shows up for a fight".

2) Hayate is going to be stuck in the simulation for sure: it's significantly funnier.

Hand-wavey justification for Hayate getting stuck is that a neighbour was going on vacation, thought that kids these days love VR and lent the setup, and despite having no interest whatsoever you don't turn down such a polite offer so wham, sucked in mate. Mindwiped into becoming Town Guard B, showing up literally everywhere whenever there's a need for mundane busywork in this land of fantasy.

But it is kinda weird that some presence keeps making knocking sounds next to Hayate's ear, chawa. What do you mean by 'escape', chawa?

Hayate and Chachua are probably going to be completely winging it when things get into motion though.

Skiold is here entirely to break in and save an Eidola. He can't really do his job if both Hayate and Chachua are trapped, so why not help this "Miss Ayaka" find a way into la Val Sans Retour. Their goals are mutual, after all.

SRW is a pretty good help for this kinda thing.

Honesty it's less the raw power that's the issue to me. It's the training and frankly ridiculous levels of experience she's got. And that would take a while to list.

I must admit that another reason I favor the "wanted ads" idea, is the prospect of writing a humorous scene where Nel assembles the (currently-available) team and explains having received this paradoxical flyer with mysterious interdimensional properties that even the Shades (who again, are themselves pan-dimensional in nature, not entirely within reality as we know it) are stumped by... And then someone, most likely Masami, asks them if they have actually read what is written on it.

——

I think the next step should be taking some time for everyone to get caught up on everyone else's stories that we will be working with, along with writing the aforementioned audition/introduction snippets. While we have had a great deal of discussion in here, enough to hopefully get a good grasp of the broad strokes of one-another's stories, I would still prefer to read them directly to get a firmer feel for the style and characterizations. (And the snippets can be a good way to also showcase elements important to the crossover but that have not yet appeared in the main stories, as I am considering doing with Reiko.)

However, rather than letting the thread fall into silence while this is happening, to both keep up interest and make sure everyone is on the same page, perhaps we could make something of a loose book club of it?

Oh, I like it when the mascots/patrons of the magical girl freak out due to magic that they can't explain.

I will freely admit that part of the idea for Mathurine was inspired by the Toymaker from the latest Doctor Who episode, especially the "Spice up your life!" Scene. So if you think a wanted ad is going to freak out the Shades, I expect their reaction to Mathurine is going to be even more drastic, especially if she evolves to be the Big Bad in a future sequel.

——

Doing a loose book club thing to allow us to catch up with the stories that will be part of the crossover sounds like a good idea too! I know I have a lot to catch up on myself.

Here is a prospective list of the illusion-world characters and what fairytale roles they would have.

Crossover:
Nanase - Lady-In-Waiting
Ayaka - Usurper

Fool Bloom:
Koyomi - Court Sorceress
Miyako - Sorceress' Apprentice
Yumemi - Evil Stepmother
Hibiki - Dark Prince

Phantom Ascension:
Kikuko - Dressmaker/Ghost
Midori - "Pied Piper" Abducting Fairy
Hotaru - Wandering Good Witch

A Magical Anomaly:
Fillia - Wise Mentor

Something Wicked:
Zaiyu - Damsel Princess
Sasori - Loyal Knight
Kyoko - Evil Witch
Rose - Diva?

A Little Vice:
Invidia - Role-Stealer/Changeling or Cinderella
Avaritia - Big Bad Wolf or Fairy Godmother
Gula - Knight?

如願以償:
Hayate - Castle Guard

I feel I am missing characters, but this is what I could easily find or remember without hunting too deep. Please let me know what else to include or any corrections I may need to make.

Thanks for the list! Having the characters divided by story is very helpful. Now all that is needed is add the story writers to each section, a link to the stories themselves, and links to character art if any, and we are good to go! I'll get round to do this myself once I am back at my desk at home at the end of this week.

I guess the only other characters to add in the crossover section is Mathurine as Jester, and Gloriana as the Royal Princess.

Thinking about it, I wonder if Usurper is a suitable role for Ayaka, since technically speaking she is not trying to usurp Gloriana's throne or Nanase's role as Conductor. Given that Ayaka uses Nanase to escape her home responsibilities, and that she is hunting down Nanase, perhaps a more appropriate role is the "Huntress"?

I do have a problem with it though, in that it sounds a little too 'the same, but more'. But obviously we should focus on said original for now

I'm curious where you got the Ice Cream Ladies bit from? Ice Cream Ladies was a follow-up to the Maho Social project that I tried (and again failed) to run (my track record ain't looking good so far…), but I think a lot of the discussion we did for that was done outside of the forum, so I wonder where you came across the term?

But anyway, Charlene and Lucia are the spiritual successors of my Ice Cream Ladies idea, so once I've actually published their main story (outside of the story I plan for the brief crossover to this project) them I would definitely be happy for them to join too.

Those sounds like good ideas, but does raise the question on what Nanase herself will be doing in the story, and what role she fulfills as Lady in Waiting. Which does also raise the question as to what she was doing when she was playing the game with Risa.

I guess I was still stuck with the concept of Nanase being the real magical girl and Ayaka the doppelgänger, where Nanase was suffering as a magical girl, so she built herself a safer fantasy for her to live in, and Gloriana is taking care of her. With Nanase now being the doppelgänger, and with her being the copy of a haughty Ayaka, her personality and motivations for the story will likely change as well, and she may be taking a more active role than what a "Lady In Waiting" role would suggest.

I'd still think that she'd still be deferring to Gloriana as Risa was the more extroverted risk-taker of the two, and the one to bring her out of her shell, so Lady in Waiting would still be the role she gets, but it would be a much more active role in the game. Perhaps Risa was a Knight in the game, and when Gloriana took on her aspect, she became a Warrior Princess archetype, caught between the responsibilities of ruling the land and her lust for adventure. Meanwhile, as a nod to Ayaka's ability to create constructs to fight for her, perhaps Nanase was a summoner in the game (elemental? Perhaps Ice Constructs to match the Ice Queen archetype you suggest), and maintains that role as the Conductor. What do you think?

Thank goodness I haven't started on the fairy tale snippet yet, otherwise I'd have to rewrite it again…
