Strange Lands, and Stranger Times.

Hmmm, I have no idea what to do here. Fighting seems silly, we don't know what it is.
Are changelings a thing in this world? You know the swapped babies?

Wanted to give you guys a heads up that I won't be able to post a update today, but it will be up tomorrow.

No, fae don't swap human children with their own. They will sometimes kidnap/take children for their own reasons which can range from "ohh it needs a loving home" to "Its so cute, can we keep it mommy, please" or even "3 month old will be just the thing for friday's dinner party."

[X] move back and use the noise to target the thing! Give it a warning before it comes out. The moment it comes out of the bushes fire at non-lethal points on its body.
-[X] If it heeds our warning tell it to come out slowly and not make hostile moves.

I assume it is too large to be one of the missing children, so attack away given that it seems to be charging.

[X] Call for Jurgen while nocking an arrow. Back-up is always a good plan!
Not sure if it matters to you lot, but I am aspiring to become a member of the fractured mind of Rose. I'll try to only get us killed if it would be really interesting.

Perhaps we should specify what to do if it isn't hostile. I figure that if it heeds the warning and stops we say something to the effect of "come out slowly, and make no threatening moves", and go from there based on what it actually is.

You begin to step backwards with an arrow nocked as you call out. "Come out slowly or I'll shoot!" Your voice sounds more certain than you feel.

There is no response. The thrashing grows closer as you pull the arrow to full draw. Your foot catches on a stump causing you to stumble and lose your balance for a moment. You needed to warn Jurgen. You only manage to open your mouth when it erupts from the bushes.

A hulking, familiar figure rushes towards you, one eye gleaming with malice. You let loose your arrow but it lunges to the side as the arrow flies into the brush. You drawn and fire a second arrow. The creature twists its torso so that the arrow strikes the tough, gray hide of its shoulder rather than its vitals. It continues is charge unabated.

You hear the sound of glass breaking as Jurgen shouts something. A moment later he rushes past you, sword in hand. The creature and him meet some 20 feet from you. You draw a second arrow as Jurgen ducks past a vicious swing. He slashes the sword, drawing a line of blood along the creature's chest, only to be sent sprawling as it strikes him in retaliation.

You fire a moment later and the arrow slams into the creature's chest. Blood wells from the wound. It ignores the injury and rapidly closes the distance with you. A clawed hand lashes out in an attempt to disembowel you but you throw yourself out of the way, rapidly rolling to your feet. Before you can react it takes a half-step in your direction, putting its hands back in range.

You see Jurgen leap up and charge the creature as he howls in savage fury. The creature turns its head to face the new threat, only for Jurgen to throw his axe which embeds itself in the creature's sternum. It tries to kick Jurgen but he side-steps away from the blow and cuts deeply into its leg. You take the opportunity to fallback several feet and ready another arrow.

Jurgen lays into the creature, which gains several cuts across its body. Blood seeps from the wounds, but it doesn't seem to be impaired by its injuries. Jurgen slashes at it, but this time it grabs him by the arm. You hear a sickening crack as it crushes the bones beneath its grip. Jurgen yowls in pain as it picks him up by and throws him into the ground. He lays there a moment, unmoving.

What do you do?
[ ] Run. Nothing seems to have badly hurt it and Jurgen is gone. You need to save yourself.
[ ] Stay and fight. You can't leave Jurgen or the farmer alone with it. You can't give up now.
[ ] Write in.

Hey guys, heads up that this quest is still alive. I was having some issues getting the next update up, and than I got busy with a temporary job. I have tomorrow free so ill have the update up at some point tomorrow.

Alright, as promised the update!

[X] The creature is distracted after throwing Jurgen. Disable its legs and feet with your arrows and then aim for its other eye.

Your eyes looked over the creature, scanning it as it stood over Jurgen. It was bleeding badly; blood flowed from the wounds profusely. You could see it swaying slightly. It let out a wet, ragged breath as it turned to face you. It blinked and shook its head, seemingly trying to focus.

You draw the bow back as your heart hammers in your chest, your breath quickens, and your muscles coil in preparation. You aren't afraid, you're excited. The bow thrums in your hands, the sensation reverberating through your bones. You couldn't help but smile as you fire the arrow.

For just a moment the creature's eyes widen in shock, before it howls in pain as your arrow destroys its knee. It half-way falls, stopping from falling onto its injured knee. It gives a ragged gasp before lunging at you, the few feet between you nothing for its desperation.

You dodge backwards, stepping out of its reach. Something impacts your right arm. You hit the ground and stars burst into existence. You blink wondering for a moment what had just hap-

You roll to the side, ignoring the pain from yours shoulder. Using your good arm you push yourself up as the creature looks at you, its fist occupying the space where your head had been. Your eyes narrow and your body tenses.

Before either of you can act it spasms violently. It bows its head and then ejects blood from its mouth, and soon begins gasping for air. It collapses on the ground, gasping and clawing for air as it drowns in its own blood. It struggles for several seconds before it slows and finally stops. It lets out a finale gasping breathe before its chest stops rising.

You had won. With this realization you feel a warm, pleasant sensation washing through your body. The pain in your shoulder melts away in face of this as you sit down. You close your eyes and breathe deeply, unable to do anything aside from enjoying your victory. It fades after a few moments and with it your mind returns.

You stand bacj up and walk to Jurgen's form. His chest rises so he is still alive at least, but he is badly hurt. His arm is broken and twisted, the bone jutting from the skin in three places. His armor is stained by blood and has been cut open in several places. He doesn't seem to be bleeding anymore. His face is half covered in drying blood from a cut on his brow.

His eyes slowly open, followed by his mouth "Is not as bad as it seems, I've been worse." He slowly sits up with a pained groan. "Not by much though" he grunts.

You respond "You need a healer." You likely needed to see one as well, as if in response, your left arm twinges in pain. Yes, you should see a healer about that.
Jurgen smiles "I'm fine see?" he tries to move his mangled arm, which spasms in response. He hisses in pain. "All right lets go find a healer."
You help him up with your good arm, and allow him to lean on you as the two of you hobble back to the city.
"Rose, we should go to the Woods-Men's' lodge. We have a few doctors on staff and I'll need to report this as well."

[ ] Agree, Jurgen knows what he's doing. If he says that the lodge is fine than it is.
[ ] Refuse, he is hurt badly and needs the best healers possible. The temple will have those, Jurgen can report later. If his superior needs to see him that badly they can come to the temple.
[ ] Write in.

This is a guy we just met, in a city we no next to nothing about. If he says the doctors at the lodge are good enough for him, we'd best take him at his word.

Jurgen knows what he's doing. You quickly gather your equipment, calm the farmer and head back to the city. The guards wave you through the entrance without interruption when they see Jurgen's injury.

It's a short, but painful walk as Jurgen directs you down a side street that leads into a large open plaza. A three story wooden building dominates the center of the plaza, while trees shade the landscape. You can see an archery range to the left and a pound to the right. The oak tree emblem of the Woodsmen hangs above the front door.

As you approach the entrance two young men rush out of the door. Both are tall and broad shouldered with shoulder length brown hair and their faces are identical save for a few scars. You quickly realize that they are twins.

"Gods be good! Jurgen are you alive?!" the first shouts, worry etched on his features. The second remains quiet and inspects both of you closely.

"Allen, I'll be fine just get a doctor already." The first man, Allen apparently, nods and sprints back into the building. The second helps you carry Jurgen into the building.

"Jurgen, what happened?" he asks.
"Swamp troll"

The man frowns and exhales sharply "The hell is a swamp troll doing here?". He looks to you after a moment "And you are?"

"I'm Rose." You respond as you lead Jurgen into a bedroom and lay him upown the bed.
The man speaks coolly "Call me Sal."

Before you can do anything a short ageing man in a doctor's coat rushes through the door carrying a large black bag.

Jurgen's eyes widen in fear when he sees the doctor. "Damn it Allen! I said I a Doctor not a butcher!"

The Doctor snaps back "Oh be quiet you big baby, I told you that it would grow back!" He turns to you and Sal "Now get out! I have business to attend to!" the two of you quickly vacate the room.

Sal sighs deeply "All right, now I think that we ne-"

"Why hello there." Allen says as he steps off the stairwell. He gives you a wide grin "I'm All-"

Sal roughly grabs his ear, pulling him close as he snarls angrily "Allen, go chase skirts on your own time." He pulls him even closer, their noses a finger-width apart. "Go be useful and get mother, she's speaking with the mayor. Tell her that Jurgen was injured by a swamp troll. I'm going to interview Rose on what happened."

"ok, ok just let go."Sal glares for a moment before releasing him. Allen quickly scrambles outside whist rubbing his ear.

Sal breathes deeply before speaking with forced calm "Right we should probably talk ou-"

You hear Jurgen yelling through the door. "OH GODS WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT! I NEED THAT!"

"Oh don't be such a big baby, those grow back!" The doctor snaps back.

"Outside" Sal finishes lamly.

You can only nod in agreement.

The two of you sit down by the pound, the trees shading you from the noon sun.

"All right, why don't you start at the beginning, who are you, what where you doing with Jurgen and why?"

What do you tell him?

Ok, got that done with. Once again I'm sorry for the delay between updates. I got sidetracked and distracted by real-life.

Now I'm forcing you guys to write in for the fallowingreason. I don't have a good idea about Rose's personality at this point, so I'm trying to get a feel for what we want her to be like via a write in and I feel very wary about just giving her one without any kind of input from you guys either.

One last thing, this is the first time I've done any kind of semi-serious writing. I know that the writing for the quest is more than a little rough, mechanically and otherwise. A motivation for me to try and do this is to improve as a writer, so I'd really like some feedback on this if you want to offer. Same goes for any criticism about the quest itself.
Anyways, thanks for reading the quest, I'll try to update again tomorrow night/Tuesday. as always please post any comments, criticisms, questions, or concerns and I shall respond as best I can.

To be honest your writing seems fine to me. I'll come up with a write-in a few hours, need to stoke the creative juices a bit.
