Kenzou has sandy brown hair and green eyes, maybe long for a guy but not quite shoulder length. He is lithe and average height.

Shion has short black hair and dark eyes. She's somewhat short, athletic, and stocky.

Momoka has long red-orange hair, blue eyes, and is tall and thin (almost concerningly so.)

Jun has dark but graying hair and dark eyes. He is huge, both tall and wide, and intimidatingly muscular.

I can visualize tiny Shion looking salty stuck between the taller Kenzou and Momoka on each side, while Jun is just towering over all of them in the back lol

I shall wait for more defining characteristics, personalities and other stuff to appear before actioning any of this

Is biosealing a thing; what's the public perception of it, if so?
Yes it is a thing. Some clans even specialize in it. The acceptance varies from village to village, same as basic sealing itself. People tend to fear both, not irrationally so, but they have a healthy caution. Perhaps the most popular village for sealing is Sand. Rain has a typical amount for its size

Biosealing is the only means you are aware of for a new jinchuuriki to be created, so that helps boost publicity. Still, Sealing is already rare, and given that you need Sealing 40 to begin dabbling with flesh, there are subsequently very few biosealers at all.

Does the team know how Rain uses its biosealers? As in, are they kept in the Village to do research and install bioseals into willing ninja, or are they used as combatants, installing bioseals into themselves for more personal power? Or some variation of both?

They aren't aware of who any of the biosealers are (though, given Ōkura Yūdachi's aforementioned notoriety, you could presume he is one.) Yūdachi does go on missions as far as you know.

You haven't heard of any programs where biosealers are offering to install bioseals (presumably out of fear of the recipient's corpse being studied by the enemy) but it isn't impossible something like that exists in a smaller form.

@Shrooms

What part of Rain are we in right now? If a hypothetical world war was to break out between Leaf, Sand, and Rock, would our PCs be close to the fighting?
You're in the NE portion (the highlands)

You know that in WW1, fighting occurred all over Rain, which is part of a deep-seated hatred many Rain ninja harbor for those three nations. Rain and portions of Grass were a frequent hotspot for those nations to fight each other, though it did spill over into most of the EN.

Oh right near the border with Leaf 🤔🤔🤔🤔

I see 👀

What kind of fighting does Rain attempt to do? Considering that the other villages aren't particularly interested in killing Rain ninja?

Do they mostly try to prevent civvie casualties and mitigate the damage or do they go all out and search and destroy foreign ninja?

What kind of action can a genin squad expect to see in a free-for-all like that? Would we be defending settlements from incursion? Search and destroy on enemy ninja? Retaliation missions into enemy countries?

You know maybe we should change our action plan to minimize chakra expenditure. Sure, it's, uh.

A lot metagamey, but hey.

Hm. We should suck up to Yudachi, get ourselves some bioseals.

Flattening and pillaging Rain's resources to fuel their bickering was still troublesome enough to not be ignoreable (not least because a good 1/3 of new incoming ninja come from civilians). Running missions within and outside your country is also tough when there's active battlegrounds spread around.

Beyond that, killing people who infringe on your territory is pretty much the only way you can have sovereign borders at all. In a sense borders represent how far you can reasonably project force greater than any other entity in the region

EDIT: not to mention it's not always clear what nationality a mystery ninja is, on top of other villages being able to disguise themselves as Rain ninja

Genin are generally more useful as scouts and runners than as combatants, but sometimes you just need bodies to throw at a problem, especially given that Minors tend to be outnumbered by Majors. Probably you would be relaying info for chuunin and jonin, but this also makes genin convenient targets.

Honestly just a good general practice, so ninja usually will not try to use more than needed within reason.

Especially efficient strategies may need to be specified though

  • [X] Action Plan: War Crimes
[X] Turn everyone into research specs, make Momoka learn Runecrafting, make an EM Nuke Rune, then EM Nuke Rune the Elemental Nations
[X] Track the Lava Deer and have someone draw their attention, leading them into an ambush.
[X] Track the Lava Deer, but keep your distance, and try to figure out how many there are without getting spotted.

Ch. 2 Location in the Land of Rain

Sketched a map (roughly accurate but ultimately still made by flawed mapmakers, countries are big). White dotted lines are your approximation of where other countries border each other, black lines divide up the four provinces of Rain (mostly just for administration purposes.) The biggest town of each province is indicated as well

You are at the red-blue dot pointed at by the arrow.

In the same vein that stagnancy is an inaccurate model, sometimes xp per day is also a bad model based on how this particular setting awards xp.

While he was actively grinding and trying to improve, he actually was getting really good income, but he stopped pushing himself. Easy missions = little to no xp
How do you model a Hidden Village if not via the average and standard deviation that characterize the normal distribution of base XP rates? You can't just run the quest on VIBES!

It was pointed out to me an update day is not mentioned in the Welcome Post. This will be edited in:

Updated are released on Mondays, and voting closes on Fridays.

You can expect Ch. 2 to release tomorrow evening, as I am around halfway through writing it and getting sleepy :^)

In the character sheets what is "Thousand-Yard Stare"? Didn't find if in the rules pdf with search.
