Trouble in Little Kashyyyk

A Trandoshan Diplomat

---
With the Empire having withdrawn from Kashyyyk, there would be some within the Kashyyyk Sector who would believe that now was the time to begin filling in the void left by the Empire's departure. Trandosha would be one such planet with it's lofty ambitions lending themselves to the belief that with their growing military might and the withdrawal of the Empire from Kashyyyk that it would be able to slowly knit the sector together around it's leadership. Sending out diplomats to surrounding worlds, the Trandoshans would put forth an impassioned plea to their numbers to come together for their own mutual security in an age of strife and anguish, to agree to a pact of mutual defense that would ensure the security of the Kashyyyk Sector for generations to come. Under different circumstances, with different friends, the Trandoshans might well have succeeded in building the foundations for an alliance amongst those planets in the Kashyyyk Sector and further cooperation however Trandosha would not prove so fortunate.

Precisely how these planets came by the information is unknown but it would be revealed to them that Trandosha had been in close contact with Drakkus the Hutt, a revelation that would cause something of a chain of unfortunate events for the region as several planets withdrew from talks due to their unwillingness to become associated with the Hutts whilst others, with preexisting ties to the criminal underworld, called in their own friends. The Zann Consortium, the Black Sun, the Exchange, and various other Hutts have since begun turning their heads towards both Trandosha, the Kashyyyk Sector, and Drakkus the Hutt with something that is either concern or a predatory glean. Unwilling to start a row over what might very well be unsubstantiated rumour spread by insidious parties, and rumour alone is often more than enough to set the Hutts against one another, Durga the Hutt has invited representatives from the major criminal factions within Hutt Space as well as Trandosha to his palace on Nal Hutta to clear matters up.

Officially the meeting involves the fate of the Kashyyyk Sector however the tone of all talk surrounding the meeting is that it is more about the balance of power in Hutt Space than it is about anything else. With Durga and Drakkus both having surged in the wake of Jabba the Hutt's death and with groups like the Zann Consortium and Talon Karrde also growing in influence, many believe that action must be taken now before Hutt Space is stricken by infighting.

Summary

Trandosha attempts to woo neighbouring systems into joining a defense pact only for an unknown faction to purportedly reveal connections between the Trandoshan leadership and Drakkus the Hutt.

Criminal underworld understandably interested in this revelation with the major factions agreeing to meet on Nal Hutta to discuss the matter.

From Durga the Hutt

Private

Now I am sure that these rumours are little more than that, as is often the nature of our line of work, however given the importance of the Kashyyyk Sector to many of our peers, it is best that talks be had to clear any misunderstandings and ensure clarity in future proceedings. I therefore invite representatives from both Trandosha, Talon Karrde, and Drakkus the Hutt to my palace on Nal Hutta where we shall, along with representatives from all interested parties, seek clear matters up for the sake of peace and profit.

The Empire did.

We would love to discuss this further with you, Grand Moff, however you will find that even bankers can hold a grudge. The Discovery of the Exodus

Ghes Ordo

---
The disappearance of the ISD Exodus had managed to capture the imagination, or rather the greed, of several major factions within the Galaxy. The Galactic Empire, the New Republic, both would dispatch significant assets into the Unknown Regions for the purpose of hunting down and recovering the Exodus for their respective faction and, more importantly, also acquire it's valuable cargo along with it. Due to the importance placed upon the Exodus, tales of what it contained would spread far and wide with some saying it was filled to the brim with credits and other valuables whilst others claimed it contained top secret schematics and blueprints that would give whoever held it an invaluable edge in the Galactic Civil War. Regardless of what it actually contained, the hunt for it would be something of an adventure in and of itself with both the Empire and the New Republic scouring the Unknown Regions for the missing Star Destroyer and undergoing various trials and tribulations in the process as the extended time away from civilisation took it's toll upon those intrepid explorers tasked with the Exodus' recovery.

Of the two factions racing towards the Exodus, it would be the New Republic that would discover it first. After intercepting a garbled distress transmission originating in the Tempered Wastes, a region of space not known for having much of anything, the assets dispatched by the New Republic, which included Rogue Squadron, led by Wedge Antilles, and Maalraas Squadron, led by Ghes Ordo, would converge on the region as they narrowed their search. With the number of planets the Exodus might have fled to narrowed down, the New Republic would eventually discover the ISD Exodus in the Lehon System where Rogue Squadron would find the Exodus crashed upon the surface of the uninhabited planet. The answer to why the Exodus had crashed on the planet would forever remain a mystery to the New Republic, interrogation of the crew yielded few answers, however that it was intact enough for recovery was sufficient for the New Republic to commit to recovering whatever they could from the wreck on the planet's surface.

After detaining the crew and a number of refugees who appeared to have been seeded in with them for whatever reason, in order to prevent interference in the recovery process, the crew and refugees would be kept some distance away from the Exodus and under constant guard with any misbehaviour being answered with gunfire, the New Republic began the process of stripping the Exodus of anything of value. Databanks containing the locations of several other such "Vault Ships" would be discovered along with a second cache equal in size to the one at Wayland as well as a number of artifacts and relics dating as far back as the Jedi Civil War. Several incidents would occur during the recovery process, most involving Ghes Ordo who got into a brawl with an unnamed crew member and then opened fire in the Exodus after claiming to have seen someone stalking the halls, a claim that was dismissed, but on the whole, the affair would go smoothly. Upon the arrival of Imperial assets in the Lehon System, including the famed 181st Squadron, the New Republic would withdraw their forces and depart for the Luke System after blowing the Exodus from orbit and leave the wreckage to the Empire.

The Empire would itself gain a far more complete picture of just what happened to the ISD Exodus after confirming that the New Republic had departed the system. Whilst the Imperial Navy tended to the survivors, several would be killed and many more wounded when the New Republic destroyed the Exodus from orbit with dust and debris being kicked up by the bombardment, high-ranking officers would be debriefed by Captain Hux and other Imperial officers. It would be discovered that following the Battle of Endor, the ISD Exodus had jumped to the Bakura System seeking resupply just in time to be caught up in the Ssi-ruuk Invasion, an invasion which the ISD Exodus had little ability to stop and therefore made swift preparations to depart from the system. Due to a number of people seeking refuge on the ship, and with overriding orders being given from the previously mentioned Countess whose authority is believed to outstrip even the Director's, the Exodus would delay long enough to take on a significant number of refugees before making an uncalculated jump away from Bakura. Due to the damage sustained during the attack and the subsequent jump, the Exodus crashed shortly after dropping out of hyperspace, ultimately crashing into Lehon where it remained until the arrival of the New Republic.

This story would itself be confirmed in private by the Countess, who confirmed her status as the Emperor's Hand after being confronted with the appropriate codes, who would nevertheless withhold further information until she was debriefed by the new Empress. With the Exodus lost to the Empire and it's crew recovered, the Empire would then withdraw from the system, dropping the refugees off at Nirauan for Thrawn to carry the rest of the way home, and report back to Coruscant with work of the Exodus' loss.

Summary

New Republic discovers the Exodus first.

Artifacts, relics, and information on other caches recovered.

Imperial arrival prompts the New Republic to destroy the Exodus and flee the system.

Imperials recover the crew and refugees as well as the "Countess Claria".

- Lehon doesn't have much value other than for fertile farmland. Considering that an army marches on its stomach, there is no such thing as enough food supply. Begin efforts to colonize the planet and create an agricultural economy there.

- Examine the curriculum and training methods of the military academies of the Hand and see how they could be improved. If time permits, be a guest speaker in some of the lectures and classes. The cadets would appreciate the learning experience.

- Have the shipyards produce the necessary Star Destroyers, support ships and equivalent Chiss ships to replace the losses incurred at N'zoth and the Teradoc raids.

- Replace the lost TIE Fighters and Interceptors with Nssis-class Clawcrafts (which are more agile and durable and are equipped with shields). Replace the lost TIE Bombers with Syca-class Bombers.

- Continue peacekeeping, defense and exploration. It's our primary mission, after all.

- Continue diplomacy, trade, stewardship and resource gathering. See how our economy and influence could grow further.

- Continue ongoing research projects.

- See to it that arriving refugees are able to find jobs so that they can make a living for their families while doing good for the Empire.

- Convert our mothballed and obsolete ships into long-range science and exploration vessels. Refurbish and modernize them as necessary. Their mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations...

- Our borders and shipping routes could be affected by the rise in piracy. Convoys, escort fighters and ships, Q-ships, and defense outposts would be useful for security purposes. Begin the implementation of those.

I am considering making investments in your beskar industry in return for access to (and if possible, discounts on) beskar products in the market. Would this be acceptable?

Admiral's Chambers, Victory I-class ISD Salernum, Kol Huro II orbit

"We're running out of men to staff the ships, you know." A man leans back in a wooden chair, cast mostly in shadow. The dying tip of his cigarette illuminates his face just barely, dim light flickering in his lines, bringing out the sharp lines of his face. He tosses a card onto the desk and speaks again, voice gruff. "If we keep producing like this we're just going to have empty ships hanging in orbit. We need to change things up."

A card is carefully placed on the opposite side. "I'm well aware of our manpower problems. The B1's aren't exactly built for these kinds of jobs, and the B2's are..." Varinius grimaces. "Point being, they have difficulty interfacing with our systems. That's why I'd like to see if we can modify our designs somewhat, make them easier to use. The droids are doing the grunt work, certainly, and guard things, but if they were able to do work, real work, then things would be so much smoother." His thumb smears a bit of condensation off a champagne glass, letting him see a distorted reflection of himself. "But we have other concerns ahead of that too, don't we? How goes the project?"

"We've gathered people up, but the real work hasn't started. What we've got done so far is basically just the intro - 'we want you to do this, go', you know?" He taps the cigarette over a dish, ashes falling into a slowly building pile. "Nice thing is we don't have any of these slaved to a central computer like those dumb CIS-scum did back in the Clone Wars. Even if someone tries to pull something, they'd have to do it droid by droid, so we have time to put into it. Still, anti-slicing measures...you really wanna put the effort into these things?" The Admiral looks at Varinius, setting down another card. The Marshal makes a half shrug, scratching his greying stubble self-consciously. "I realize what you must think of them, but I do believe they're the future of the Empire. With automated forces becoming a larger part of our military, we can redirect our actual talented men and women to the places their needed, and push the untalented ones away. They aren't clones or machines like they used to be - they can do more than just point a blaster away from them and hope it hits. They can succeed elsewhere, and make our Empire a better place. That's why we need these droids to fill the gaps we use them for."

There's a silence, interrupted only by the occasional scuffling of cards or creaking of the ship. Finally, the Admiral takes his cigarette and grinds it into the tray. "Well, just throw a couple smart ones in there, will ya? If I hear that goddamn 'roger roger' one more time I'm gonna chuck the closest thing to me out the airlock." He laughs, and the rest of the night is spent in much higher spirits.

Bakura, Cultural Sensitivity Center

A terrified human sits on the other side of the table from a frustrated Gold-Caste Ssi-Ruu. The room is decorated like a corporate meeting room, like a thousand found across the galaxy. The chairs are uncomfortable for the Ssi-Ruu, but they seem to be largely ignoring that.

They human takes a long, shaking sip of caf, spilling some on the table in front of him, and then begins to read from his script. "We-well sir, we, uh, we respectfully-"

A voice, booming from some unknown speaker, interrupts him. "Stick to the script, human!"

"-we find your offer to be insufficient and, to be-" he pauses in horror and looks at the script. There's a glance towards the the ceiling and then he continues talking. "-blatantly insulting to my intelligence, and that of my company." The Ssi-Ruu bristles opposite him, but doesn't say anything or take action. "I ask that you get your....your, uh, glittery ass out of my office and-" There's an explosion of violence. The Ssi-Ruu leaps from her chair and flips the table over in a lunge for the human who, for his part, cowers and yells, "It's just the kriffing script!"

There's a pulse from the ceiling, and the Ssi-Ruu collapses, unconscious.

"Rorax Sensitivity Test 9, failed," says the speaker, "Slave Aurek-Eight-Seven-Eight-Five, you may return to the holding area and prepare for the next test."

The human visibly shudders as he is escorted out of the room.

Appeal to Reason, Druckenwell Orbit

It had been an interesting few months for Ghost Fleet after encountering Senator Iblis at Druckenwell and securing it's liberation. Only the Covenant and Dauntless Vagabond had sustained heavy damage during the fighting, while the damage to Druckenwell's fleet had been more severe. Most of the ships were absolutely unsalvageable, one Carrack even detonating from reactor failure during the repairs. The shipyards at least had a few cruisers in Drydock which helped to round out the planet's defenses as she began to revitalize the manufacturing industry in her newfound sector, materials from Christophsis and a few other mining outposts turning into new ships for her fleet, new blasters for her soldiers and components for new infrastructure on her most important worlds. She already had plans in place to start building a shipyard in orbit of that crystalline world and perhaps her homeworld one day even as she attempted to safegaurd the newly formed civilian government.

'I suppose Governor Horne won't wait forever for my arrival before he announces his big plans of officially joining the New Republic and creating a more efficient and free world.' She thought with a smile as she boarded the shuttle, wondering once again how anyone ever got bored in a galaxy like this, even without the blasterfire above your head.

Actions -
  • Building a Shipyard in the Christophsis System
  • Construction of Fleets at Druckenwell
  • Standardizing weaponry among her troops and ships as much as possible.
