[X] Try and find that girl from the other day. Just without scaring her off this time.

[x] You haven't seen Maiko in a while. You should go see Maiko.

So... Anybody have any idea who the mystery girl is?

And, back to normal, more or less!

Let's just... ignore the person who, left alone, is going to leave town after the post-Dark Hour selective amnesia kicks in. Surely, nothing can go wrong from that.

"Do you want to go visit Maiko-chan?" You suggest. "It's pretty far, but we should be able to walk there... unless you need some time to rest first?" It's only polite to ask. He just got here, after all.

"I'm fine." Given his choice of words, you're inclined to disbelieve him, but maybe you should take your chances on this. If only to try and remind yourself that people can say those words honestly. Just usually not the people you spend time with. "We... haven't seen Maiko-chan in a while, have we?" Well, given how that's sort of the point to this whole thing...

"That's why I'm asking." You don't think he actually needs to be told this, but it's best to be safe, right?

"Then we should go." He stands up, dislodging Morgana from his lap. You instinctively tune out the feline's complaints. He should know by now that, when Akira says he's going somewhere, that means he's not going to be sitting down for much longer. This has happened eight times already. "Can't let her forget about us, right?"

Honestly, you don't think you'll ever have to worry about that, if only because you're sure magic is pretty memorable to someone who doesn't live with it.
So long as there's nothing actively messing with them... or it's not the amnesia patient of the decade.
Also, because being forgotten over the course of a month by someone you've been friends with for well over a year would be pretty sad. So you're not even going to consider the possibility. Especially not from someone as nice as Maiko.

"Let's get going, then." Before your cat forgets that clear displays of magic would probably be destructive, disruptive, and completely unnecessary.
Or before he stops caring. I don't actually know which one's more likely to come first.
He actually tries following you to the door, before Koromaru urges him away to play. Odds are, he'll have forgotten all about this by the time you come back this afternoon.

If only because, if he doesn't behave well, he has no chance of successfully convincing Mitsuru-san to get him sushi.

Maiko's parents aren't home when you reach her apartment, but she doesn't seem to mind that at all. "They haven't been around that much anymore," She admits, which makes you sort of regret ignoring her for the whole break. "They make sure to leave food and stuff, but... How have you two been?" You don't think you've ever seen her so quick to change the subject.

"Akira-san's been spending the break at the dorms, sort of." You aren't sure what the best way to describe this would be without Maiko deciding to idolize Mitsuru-san for one reason or another, and that's the kind of thing you'd like to avoid no matter what. "Mostly because nobody's around to tell him not to..."

"Their supervisor isn't very good at his job," Akira pitches in. "He hasn't showed up at all."
And he doesn't even know about the worst of it...
You decide to not mention the fact that your dorm seems to have collectively decided that said supervisor is their enemy, or that Ikutsuki-san has done absolutely nothing to dispel this image. To the point where he sometimes seems disappointed that the place hasn't devolved into violence while he was gone.

There's probably something wrong with him. You just don't want to get close enough to figure out what it is.

Maiko is beginning to look concerned. Given some of the things you've told her about the people you're living with, it's hard to blame her. Sometimes even you're surprised that things are still going relatively well.

"The dorm's also getting a new transfer student next week," You add, suddenly just as quick to change the subject as Maiko was earlier. "He'll be coming in the day before school starts... for some reason." That just seems like it's asking for trouble to happen. Especially given that you don't exactly have a limit on when people can move in.
I think it might just be 'as soon as they can get someone to sign the papers.' Makes as much sense as anything else.
Well... you don't think you do. It's not like there's any real standards for anything else, they let an elementary school student move in, it's officially known that you have a dog, and Shinjiro-san didn't even go to school for a while.

But, again, this probably isn't something you should mention to your friends if you don't want them to be concerned. More than they already are.

It's probably a lost cause, at this point, but that isn't going to stop you from trying.

You think you might need a distraction from this conversation. Just a bit.

[ ] So, you've introduced Akira to television...

[ ] Mitsuru-san's helping you publish a book. This feels like something you should mention.

[ ] If there's a safe place for it, you could try giving an impromptu magic show...

[ ] Does she have another puzzle you could do? With three of you, it might go faster! (+Diligence)

They wanted it published. So that wish will come true.

All right, this subject probably won't bring up the question of inadequate guardianship...

It has a bonus of giving them something to look forward to, at least. That's nice.

Info Gap
You need a distraction... just about anything to keep your friends from realizing just how far life at the dorm is from how it should be. Has anything happened recently that they would both want to hear about?

...Yes. Yes, something interesting has happened, and you would have wanted to bring it up to your friends either way. "Oh, did I mention I wrote a book?"

"Really?" And suddenly Maiko has actual sparkles in her eyes, like she's some sort of anime character. "Is it the one you showed me before? With the magical girls?"

"They're not magical girls..." You grumble, even though you know, by now, that it's futile. She'll make that insistence no matter what you point out that goes against the genre. "They're Persona Users. It's a completely different thing." Among other things, Persona Users actually exist.
Not that they really know that. Not yet, at least.
Akira glances at you. "From that thing you were working on? They seemed like magical girls to me." He's only got a month of personal experience with anime, why is he so sure of that?

You slump over on the couch, unsure how you can properly convey your feelings of betrayal. "Why?"

"Well, we have the objects of power, everyone having a different ability... there's even an animal companion." You wonder how Morgana would react to being called an animal companion. You anticipate a lot of whining and complaints that he's not a cat... unless he's decided that being one would be better than whatever he actually is. Though you still don't know what that is, so you're pretty sure there will still be complaining.

You've succeeded in changing the subject! Though, as you continue arguing with your own best friends about the genre of your work, you can't help but wonder if it's really worth it.

"So what are you going to call it, anyway?" Maiko asks. All things considered, you think this might be the most interest she's ever had in a book, and it's not even out yet.

"That's... one of the things I haven't figured out yet," You admit. "Mitsuru-san's helping me publish it, though, so she might have some ideas. It's only the first part of the story, but I think I might call the whole thing 'Unmasking the Truth.' It... sounds okay, right?"

Neither of them have any particular opinions to offer on the matter. Mostly because neither of them have ever had to name something before- Akira's not allowed pets, and Maiko's never had one.

Which somehow leads into asking what kind of pets your friends would most like to have. "I think... a ferret," Maiko decides. "Or a chinchilla."

"...A cat would be nice," Is Akira's opinion. "I mean, one that's a bit less demanding than Morgana." And to think, he can't even hear the feline Persona User's complicated plans to try and get sushi. None of which have ever come to fruition, and you somehow don't think they ever will.
Not if he keeps plotting in front of Mitsuru-san they won't.
"He is a bit needy," You agree, well aware of the earful you would get from that if the cat were around. "Koromaru likes attention, too, but he's only really insistent about it if he hasn't seen you for a while." And he actually tends to calm down when people tell him to, which is a definite advantage.

"I was wondering... why are they staying with you, anyway?" Akira asks. "I mean, you're all hiding Morgana, but you don't even have to try with Koromaru..."

Maiko looks confused, too, though that may just be because this is the first she's hearing about some of this.

You... don't really have a good answer for them. Of course not. Of all the things for them to question about your living situation, pet ownership was not something you'd expected.

[ ] Try and dodge the question.

[ ] Mention that the animals can use magic, but don't go beyond that.

[ ] After all they've seen from you... the Dark Hour isn't that much to believe, is it?(Requires Courage 4)
