"Does it ever concern you that they keep putting heavy books on the top shelf?" You ask, looking up the shelves at your old foe. Maiko groans.
"Amada-senpai, you remember what happened last time..."
"What happened last time?" Akira asks.
"The book fell and hit him on the head. He seemed really hurt for a bit... but then this pretty light appeared and made it all go away!"
Your dark-haired friend glances up at the old, dim, flickering light above you. "Huh. Did that... actually come on properly for a bit?"
"No, not that light! It was like actual magic!" You wince. You don't really like thinking about how your friends still don't know about your powers. If they did, they could come to you for Dia if they ever got hurt, and that would be... well, it'd be nice to know you were helping people.
Still, Akira doesn't seem to take Maiko's words to seriously, so you suppose they might not fully believe that you have powers without a demonstration, and that would definitely attract attention.
And, either way, what's important is getting the book down. Hopefully, this time without getting hit on the head.
You actually manage to get the book down without incident this time. It turns out that a lot of old fairytales don't really have happy endings. Not that this was entirely new to you, but still.
The others are reading their own books, like usual, and for a moment, everything's sort of okay.
But just for a moment.
"So, Amada-senpai..." Maiko pauses, before asking, "You were pretty busy last week, weren't you?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, we couldn't really find you at all, and that's usually because you're working on something. Weren't you?" If only it were that simple...
"I mean, I was focused on studying a lot..." You think it paid off, even. You're certainly having an easier time understanding what the teachers are focusing on than before, and that can only ever be a good thing.
"You never came to the library, though," Akira points out. "Did you just... not want to deal with us?" He sounds prepared for the answer to be yes. You honestly need to do something about that one of those days.
"I didn't... really want to deal with anyone," You admit. "I'm fine now." Sort of. Partly.
Look, you're not fine, and you're sure that the others can see it, but you're not going to be the one to actually say it.
Neither of them seems to want to be the one to say it, either, and the subject of the conversation quickly changes to the merits of a story about people with superpowers in a world where there's nothing to fight. Maiko thinks it could be interesting. Akira says there's really no point to it.
You just wonder if maybe you could one day tell them that you're almost living it.
The next time you go to yours and Lavenza's meeting spot, she's quick to come out and greet you.
"Oh, Amada-san. I assume you will be taking me to the next spot on my list today?" Honestly, you don't think you're really settled enough to give a proper tour right now, but you're also scared of what she'd do to you if you refused.
"Where would you like to go?" She doesn't answer, instead looking at you apprisingly. "...Something is different. Are you feeling all right?"
You didn't expect her to catch on to that. Then again, the world seems to delight in refusing to meet your expectations recently. And you figure it couldn't hurt to tell her just a little bit.
"Have you ever realized that someone... wasn't what you thought they were?" You aren't sure if you're talking about Shinjiro-san or Nemi right now. Or everyone else, who knew about it but never mentioned it.
"Well," She replies, "When I was younger, I was told about the Velvet Room's various Guests, and that they were all exceptional examples of humanity. Then Narumi-sama actually came by to visit and manage his Personas, and I was... less than impressed. But that might not quite be what you were talking about."
Probably not. Though you are intrigued by the concept of there being someone out there with multiple Personas... Then again, that sounds like it could be dangerous, if those Personas didn't like you.
