Shards of a Broken Sun [Deprecated; see link in final post for remake]

I see. So, a Baby Goddess of Destruction and Rebirth.

Yikes.

That aside... I'm kind of at a loss for what to do in Amu's storyline right now. I would Really strongly recommend just taking some downtime to recover, but I can't beat the "Do all the things!" Lobby at this point, especially with how high you've put the stakes (When someone like BRS is Street Level at the scale we're operating on). We have several points of damage that can't heal anytime soon, and we've got a Hell Week on the horizon, which certainly isn't going to help matters either.

I really wish they could have waited a couple days before starting but I guess we're stuck :(

She could mess up a Jack the Ripper something fierce, but Jack Frost would hee ho ho her the fuck out :p
Right this second, but that statblock is pretty fucking potent once her Dex and Sanctum scores recover. She's not terribly flexible, but she's extremely hard to kill, and does a lot of damage to a lot of targets.

Not like we're the ones who decided the timetable, Alectai

And it's not as if you put up much of a fight against participating in the clusterfuck yourself, either :p

Besides, "let Hotsuin deal with it" remains an entirely valid course of action after we get down there

I am writing some Massive fucking stunts when the need comes, but my creativity is limited. Please don't get after me for this, I voted for downtime :(

{X} Take a few more minutes to compose yourself and get dressed
{X} Tell her everything.

Im not blaming anyone for anything, your stunts are pretty much the only reason thingsve turned out as well as they have. :p

Besides, if we really want the option of downtime to recover from injuries taken in the line of duty, we need to make sure that things don't go to hell while we're in the process of doing so. A large part of JPS power and authority comes from it's ability to maintain law and order in the vortex world. Keep in mind that if the ability for JPS to handle the situation isn't there right off the bat, we'll be having various cults trying to take on the weak in order to farm them for Magatsuhi later, seeing JPS inaction as a sign of weakness.

No matter what, delegation needs to happen, then rest can come after.

Hah, fair enough.

But yeah, I've got nothing for either of these scenes, I wouldn't even know where to begin to avoid fucking them up :(

...Let me put it this way:

Let's say that, right off the bat, we have 3 main powers. We've got whatever law-based organization Baughn decides to shack up in here. We've got the Cult of Gaia representing the forces of Chaos, and then we've got JPS as our potential powerbase and means of influencing the larger scope of things.

Now, after awhile, people are gonna start forming their own reasons, and attempting to bring them into being. So the smaller groups are going to start trying to recruit random pockets that neither of us big three organizations are able to bring under our umbrella. This is inevitable, given the scope of things. Once that happens, outside the Big 3, hardly anyone is going to have enough Magatsuhi to farm in order to summon a Sponsor, barring exceptional circumstances like random pockets of the stuff, or the Amala Network.

Which means that things will turn to random warfare as the smaller fry attempt to steal worshippers/npcs in an attempt to fuel their own ambitions.

Now, what happens if one of those Big 3 isnt as powerful or impressive as the others?

What if it appears vulnerable?

It becomes a prime target to raid for people to use as Magatsuhi fodder. All of those people, and no means to defend them from being picked up.

We need to position JPS so that's not us. If we're not the vulture bait, then that means that theres that many small fires we no longer have to worry about putting out. And they also provide excellent experience when the time comes to level up mooks later, but thats really neither here nor there. Basically, we don't want JPS to appear vulnerable to attack from people below our weight class. That requires a strong, effective beuracracy. If we can do that, the issue of flying from crisis to crisis without any downtime to heal and unwind simply ceases to exist.

So we just invest now into making JPS self-sufficient and effective, and it'll pay off dividends after the end of this week.

Then don't be afraid to fuck it up.

Let's just go down there, see if we can convince Hotsuin to get off his ass and be proactive, while also seeing if there's something we can't figure out about Dia. Honestly, I don't see what we can get from engaging the mother in a prolonged dialogue, but giving her a hug and some assurances on the way out would go a long way towards helping keep that aspect of Amus life stable.

It's a delicate time, and mistakes are gonna be made on the micro level. So all we can really do is limit our losses to things that can be patched up later on, rather than stuff that can not be taken back. Frayed nerves can be mended, after all.

Edit: Cant believe i mixed them up lol

Hmm.

Well, I'll see what I can do to refine the current winning vote then.

EDIT: Actually, can I get a vote count so I can see what I can do to refine it?

Amu side:
2 votes for trying to wake Dia, 1 for trying to wake the exaltation, 5 for consulting with Hotsuin and trying to modify the seal. Due to the apparent time pressure, I'm treating these as mutually exclusive unless otherwise voted.

[X] Look for Hotsuin to consult about what we could make use of the Seal to do, start trying to figure out how to make the changes, as well as any possible consequences. This is very delicate work and deserves a to be thought through first so that we can work on it as soon as we're fine again. We're smarter now right? We can do this.
Matou side:
2 votes for {X} Take a few more minutes to compose yourself and get dressed.
5 votes for {X} Go down as you are, of which.
- 3 votes for {x} But compose yourself first.
7 votes for {X} Tell her everything.

I expect I'll call one vote or the other in ~19 hours. Hopefully I can get a reasonable alternation going.

(Nod) I'll break out the pens and crank a stunt to refine that out tonight then.

Trust in Amu's Solarness. Her stat block isn't just for show; she really /is/ highly competent in a lot of fields, and I won't write her otherwise.

You may want to take advantage of that occult excellency, though.

Yeah, I have a couple ideas now. Writing Begins, ETA sometime in the next hour.

Hmm... The only thing that comes to mind actually is that "Oh hey, we can adjust the seal"... Well, it might work, but it also strikes me as being exceptionally high risk. We could end up doing more damage trying then Dubhe would do. Especially as we don't have time to wake Dia if we're going to do this.

A Better use of our power would be to get any data that JPs has accumulated, and devise a Strategy that can anticipate Dubhe's next target, and figure out a means of bypassing his defenses (We already know at least one on a meta level, forcing his "Ice Cream" back into the cone before he explodes will wreck him.) He's also not actually that Strong, given how three kids with DSPs could bring him down after figuring out his weakness (And if you bypass his defenses, he becomes Weak to Everything)

Plus, we can only dare use Essence one more time without Limit Breaking again. 5 WP is harsh, but managable, 4 WP is well into "Oh shit oh shit danger zone". The current plan will likely use it at least twice.

I have submitted a revised plan, complete with a stunt.

[X] "No... That's probably too much, especially with everything else going on" You say, biting your lip thinking hard on the problem. "But there should be something I can do without too much effort... He does stop for a little while, right? If I can get them to release me all the information they have on Dubhe's actions... I can probably use some of the power I have left to figure out how to anticipate his next target, and then JPs can send their people to defeat him. I don't have to go very far, I don't have to play around with super powered magic stuff, and I can probably help people too!"
--Get JPs to give us all the data they have on Dubhe, crank out Intelligence + War + Second War Excellency (Which should guarantee us 3 successes minimum, just shy of "Oh hey, I just cured cancer with bronze age tools). If we score high enough, we should be able to anticipate his targets, (Or at least his targetting algorithm), and figure out his weakness (His defenses fail in the moment he shifts from Absolute Defense to Overwhelming Offense). That would allow JPs conventional forces to make pretty short work of him. This also only requires us to use Essence once, which means that we won't Limit Break again and drop us well into the WP Danger Zone.

The second section is clarification on what I intend to do mechanically, not actually part of the stunt.

Also, you'll note that I said "If we have a Com channel" was stated.

That aside... If we do. We'll be rolling 12 dice with 3 automatic successes. Statistically speaking, we can likely guarantee another 3, which puts our success squarely into "Superhuman Feat even by Ancient Myth standards". Dubhe is small time once you can figure out his achillies heel.

The next Septentrion is a more straightforward beatstick, but by then, our Exaltation should be back online, which gives us options (Like actually spending experience :O, and not gaining a point of Limit whenever we use Essence)

Theres nothing wrong here, worst case we have Hotsuin appropriate the idea himself to avoid damaging ourselves

Win/win

[X] Alectai

You do have one compassion channel. Using it will push Amu back into semi-lethargic can't-quite-be-bothered state, though.

If you're willing to wake Miki again you'd have 8 dice on that War check, meaning 4 guaranteed successes from the excellency. That's sufficient to make a plan that will corner Dubhe, though not necessarily immediately. You can also use willpower directly for a single guaranteed success.

Fun fact: The average dice roll produces precisely half a success.
