Shards of a Broken Sun [Deprecated; see link in final post for remake]

... oh, and we're going to need to override Hotsuin's decision about not expending the effort to save civilians
Hotsuin plan was to rewrite the world. Any sacrifices in process would've been negated (or applied) by said rewrite. It doesn't mattered who survives besides one that forms a new world.

That was thrown out of window, because it's not guaranteed that same scenario could happen or if it would that it would even happen in this generation, so Hotsuin is rethinking his stance - he is smart enough for that.

PS. Hell, his subordinates were on the plan in some form - readiness to sacrifice themselves was too big even in mix of Japan sociocultural norms, Hotsuin picking his crew and Apocalypse scenario. Hotsuin wins - Hotsuin revives whoever died giving him chance to do that... at least I suspect it was commonly known plan.

PPS. Well, it's obvious that Hotsuin wouldn't revived everybody and world would've been quite different but both his subordinates and "common civilians" were quite safe in that regard as far as my understanging of his morality go. Now how many politicians (especially ones he knew personally) would've been revived is a good question...

[x] Grab Hiro and carry him to safety. Maybe jump to the top of a building.
-[x]Prepare for battle if it turns on the remaining survivor, your range and accuracy is great enough that you could easily pull it apart at that distance--if it pursues you... Well, the girl would get away pretty easily without the monster blocking her escape, and you could still probably escape faster then it could follow you, even with Hiro in tow.

Incidentally, that's a Gozuki, level 18 Touki species, roughly level-comparable to Matou, but of a "Weaker" Race. It excels in close quarters battle, but has no particular ranged ability--evacuating Hiro and gunning it down at range if it turns on the girl is our best bet--we do Not want an infight with this, and I suspect the girl summoned it to "Make some bullies pay" or something equally petty.

It resists Garu and reflects Agi damage, but is vulnerable to Curses and Ice.

Additionally, looking at Matou's character sheet... Hmm, we don't have to worry about Hiro being hurt if we're carrying him around and jumping around, are we? If that is a risk, we should get him Touch of Eternity.

Oh shit, Already?

Did Alcor's program get distributed already?
Alcor's program was distributed prior to the story even starting. It features in the very first scene of DeSu2, during school.

You can't. That particular ability requires Essence 2.

Yeah, fuckkkkk...

This looks very much like some little girl getting bullied and playing with forbidden science, and not expecting them to be literally torn apart

That said, Gozukis have a Lot of health, I doubt we could kill one in a single salvo, which makes "Get distance and then start shooting" our best bet. It'll either pursue us (Which'll let the girl escape), or it'll turn on the girl (Which'll let us attack it from a distance where it can't see the shots.)

Would he be hurt then if we were to pick him up and jump up to a rooftop to get him out of the killzone?

In other words, are stunt rules a thing?
He wouldn't be hurt by that even without stunt rules. Humans can survive a lot of acceleration, and it'd be acceleration over a fairly large distance.

This isn't the question you should be asking.

The question then is.

"Can we do this?"

As in "Are we faster then a big bull-headed guy, and do we have the mobility to get the high ground?"

... On further analysis, I'm actually going to have to say "Probably Not", if we were on our own, yeah, maybe, but that's because we're literally a featherweight on account of our body being a hollow shell of stuff because we can't properly Materialize yet. If we were actually carrying someone, our jumping range is probably going to drop, quite a bit.

EDIT: Yeah, did the math, if we were on our own, assuming "Featherweight" is an actual thing, we'd be able to jump somewhere from 8-16 yards straight up, which explains the crazy bullshit we were pulling off against Dubhe but if we were weighed down by someone close enough to our body weight, we're looking at reducing to about 4-8 yards, which is nowhere near enough to get roof hopping.

I'm also not confident in our ability to kill him before he overruns us, as Toukis are close combat monsters, and this one in particular is pretty close to our estimated level, and he'll be able to alpha strike really hard. We need to draw him off and away from the civvies on each side somehow, and do it in a way that he doesn't get bored and attack easier prey.

Depends.

We can lift up to 350 pounds with our current Strength + Athletics total, and if we channel Compassion or something, we'll go up to 650. Add a stunt and we can theoretically hit 1,200 pounds for at least a little bit.

Assuming we use the Exalted Strength + Athletics chart anyway.

On a further thought, we're at the entrance of a narrow alley, right? So if we dodge to the side, then it would probably have a problem turning the corner anywhere near as tight with its charge, right? And Matou has really high dexterity.

That should get you some time to shoot it up I think... maybe get it to keep following you as well.

Just need to get our brother to come along, who's probably foolishly frozen up...

Good points... though now I'm wondering if a feather weight person can easily carry some one along, getting the balance right on that might be a bit tricky. Not much inertia in your favour.

Thing is, we have precedent for "Reduce Gravity" abilities effectively doubling your mobility and jumping strength. Putting ourselves closer to regular weight would bring us down to our regular jump height... Which is probably too short to escape to the rooftops.

If you mean high jumps, sure. I was just thinking that with her low weight it would be really hard to hold some one in such a way that you wouldn't get rather problematic balance problems.

You'd pretty much need to be dragging them along in a tension position, or properly place yourself under them when lifting off at the right angle. Else you tend to get horrible massive swinging motions. The brother outweighs us by a magnitude or two after all.

I suppose the books might help a bit, but they're off-center a bit probably as well...

Though I guess dropping backpack would make Matou a lot quicker?

Given its a literal bull, shooting it right in the cranium has a not-inconsiderable risk of the shot getting ricocheted off the demon's skull

I'd recommend blowing out one of it's feet while it's mid-charge. Once that happens, Matou should be free to reposition her younger brother and eliminate him as a potential liability during this fight.

[X] ω₁, The Long Count
[X] Shoot it. In the knee.
-[X] Help Hiro and the girl escape to safety, then snap a quick picture with your camera phone before finishing it off. You want the police to believe you after all.
