Sekiro updates are neat but the mods have done all of this already.

For my last playthrough I wore the Elite Knight Armor and wielded the Flamberge.

Still happy to see peeps using console get it this addition.

Why do I have a sneaking suspicion the 'Remnants' system is a network test for an Elden Ring mechanic...

Well anyway, yay update! Hopefully the Reflections include minibosses, but it involves memories then probably not. Fighting Gyoubu again will be fun though.

So after abandoning an old playthrough a couple months ago due to the game not clicking, I started a new game and have progressed further than last time when I stopped at the bull. I first after killing the bull was go over the bridge into the abandoned dungeon and got to Senpou temple. I then hit a dead end after Armoured warrior at the temple with the NPC monk in green. I then went and killed this lone shadow in the well where I started and dropped into Ashina depths where that bitch Snakeyes was. After getting two shot repeatedly, I stealth killed her first bar, then lured her into the poison swamp and played chicken on a ledge to bait out her shooting attack while waiting for the poison to kill her. Got wrecked by a creature called headless in the foggy woods which I then left alone to go kill this squid man in a temple which revealed Mibu village where I proceeded to get wrecked by Rin who I now go around and then got beaten the shit out of by the corrupted monk. I also killed Lady butterfly in the memory. Is there anywhere else I missed before I go back to the castle to fight the guy who stole my master?

There's a bit of the gun fort you can do before you hit a locked door but otherwise you're pretty much set, time to beat up Genichiro.

Genichiro and the folding monkeys are dead. Trying to decide where to go next since the place I should be going to seems to be the sunken valley based off how much damage I was doing to Snake eyes compared to every other direction but honestly fuck that place. Also is there something I need to use the sake on?

Sake is just for getting dialogue out of Ashina, the Sculptor and Emma IIRC.

Sunken valley's the place for you to go, but if you absolutely hate the place I guess you could go look for upgrades elsewhere to make it a little easier. Have you found the shortsword and the shield prostethic tools? Those are pretty cool for dealing with snake eyes and the segment immediately after her, respectively. There may be some prayer beads around you haven't picked up yet, and you could kill the corrupted monk for an attack boost if you haven't already.

So I first killed the monk then went to the sunken valley and got punted off a bridge by the snake. Killed guardian ape and then Ashina Castle got invaded apparently while I was gone. After getting to the roof again I found Owl who I need to talk to in a clearly important cutscene. So I proceeded to kill every miniboss I could find except these 2 assholes who shoot terror magic. I now have 17 vitality and 8 attack power. Is there anything I'm missing before I talk to Owl?

did you go get the headless in the moat?

did you go get the headless in the moat?
I did do so. I decided to talk to Owl and refused his offer. He took exception to this and proceeded to kill me more than any other boss. Eventually he died and I now have all the ingredients to get to Fountainhead. In the process of doing this, I started some sidequest with the kid in Senpou temple since she gave rice that heals you and I needed as much as I could get with Owl. Now before I head into Fountainhead, is there any sidequests that need to be done before I go?

You're going to want to finish the kid's quest before you head to Fountainhead, if you haven't already. If you don't have the Frozen Tears item, you're not done. There's also another major sidequest, its pretty spoiler-y and specific though.

Steps 1 and 2 can be completed after defeating The Owl, but if not done up to this point, it is highly recommended to do them immediately after defeating him. Simply eavesdrop on Kuro as many times as you can, rest, talk to Emma/Kuro, resting each time, until Emma moves upstairs. The key here is talking to Kuro until the topic becomes the Mortal Blade.

After defeating Genichiro at the top of Ashina Castle and getting Mortal Blade from The Divine Child, exhaust all dialogues with Kuro and Emma, and exhaust all eavesdrop opportunities on Kuro, which you get when hiding behind a wall using Hug Wall mechanic. The specific location for eavesdropping requires the player to stand just around the corner behind Kuro and the large statue he stands next to. Go around behind the statue and then hug the wall on the left side of it. Multiple rests and switching from one to another may be required. Technically the player must only talk to Kuro about the Mortal Blade then hear a specific eavesdrop conversation which alludes to him keeping a secret from Sekiro, but this may not trigger immediately as many dialogues become available at this point - simply exhaust all available conversations/eavesdrops.

Progress the story and collect the Lotus of the Palace and the Shelter Stone key items. At this point you will face new Interior Ministry Ninjas at Ashina Castle.

At the top of Ashina Castle, The Owl will give you the choice to follow the Iron Code or to continue to serve Kuro, the Divine Heir. Choose to continue to serve Kuro and defeat The Owl.

Exhaust all available conversations/eavesdrops again, and rest to nearby statue causing Emma moves from her current location to the top of the stairs.

Talk with Emma at the top of the stairs, pick the option to keep Kuro alive, then rest at nearby statue, talk to Emma again at the top of the stairs and agree to help her, she will gives you Tomoe's Note.

Travel to the Old Grave Idol and go to the left, you will find Emma standing infront of two tombstones. Talk to Emma and then travel to Dilapidated Temple.

Eavesdrop on Emma and Sculptor from behind the temple. Talk to Emma and then choose "Ask about what you overheard", and then, "What are you hiding?" to receive Father's Bell Charm. Use it at the Buddha statue. If you haven't completed Hirata Estate area, you will need to do it by killing Lady Butterfly before you can use Father's Charm.

Well I finished the child sidequest since I had most of the items needed from just exploring the world. That other one I have gotten up to the second Owl fight and he is kicking my ass even harder than the first fight. Do I need to finish the boss fight before fountainhead or can I come back later since he is absolutely wrecking me.

You can come back later, you only need to finish it before the final boss fight.

You can actually do the final boss before it, if you really, really want to. Its extremely awkward in the story flow if you do, but the button you press to end the game occurs separate from the final fight, so you can actually go off and do other things.

I finally went to fountainhead, beat the monk to actually get inside the place, then sneaked my way through after the first time I got hit by lightning while swimming. After killing the lightning thrower I snuck past a very big koi and found a shrine at the top of a mountain that probably leads to the boss fight of fountainhead. Decided to try Owl again since I had more Vitality and Attack power, which seemed to make not a single difference since he continues to wreck me. I decided to try finish upgrading all the tools to see if any of them would help. Main thing I'm missing for the last few upgrades is Mercury and Lapis. I tried the gun people at the fort after murdering fountainhead mooks enough to conclude that neither was there and mercury seemed most likely to come from gun people. One eventually dropped but this is gonna take awhile with this drop rate. Any better spot for the mercury and maybe an idea on what drops the Lapis?
