Scientia Weaponizes The Future

Taylor: "I'm perfectly willing to let you guys run an MRI, CAT scan, scan by Panacea, whatever. And don't tell me that normals can't beat capes. You're the PRT. Obviously you've seen the numbers of capes in the Bay that are gunned down by the gangs each year. Sophia's fighting form was crap, and I figured out how to use her breaker state against her, which just took observation and more skill than she had, which wasn't that much. Victor didn't expect me to fight back, and I got the drop on him. Seriously, is anyone here stupid enough to believe that capes are invincible despite the fact that they should know better?"
*laughs* Taylor can volunteer for all the scans in the world, but if the PRT decides she has powers because of her beating two parahumans the results of them don't matter. They will just treat her like a Parahuman regardless, not just that, but a Parahuman with a legitimate reason to hate all of them, so she'll be under worse scrutiny than normal.

Whatever happens, whatever they think...

...its definitely going to be fascinating and neat!

These chapters have been excellent and the story is compelling. Really looking forward to seeing where and how it goes.

The thing about 'beating' parahumans is that it's essentially just a regular fight with a little bit of battle of wits thrown in (at least at the level of the average cape in BB) - having your own powers helps, but isn't necessary. In both fights, her primary strategy was to exploit the weaknesses of their powers (Sophia's breaker state, Surprising Victor by retaliating). I think it's far more reasonable that they'd say "this is a Normal with a talent for exploiting the weaknesses of capes" than "you've beaten two capes now, which makes you a parahuman in the eyes of the law." The PRT is plenty incompetent and corrupt, but they're not falling for their Own propaganda (as someone earlier in the thread pointed out, they push the idea that only Capes can beat Capes but are Themselves an organization dedicated to beating capes with Normals.)

I have a feeling that whatever happens Taylor will have new wave at her back from now on for saving brandish, so that should stop most organisations from trying to recruit her through force.

That, and the PRT probably knows that it is entirely possible (albeit usually unlikely, especially here) for a normie to kill or take down a cape. I mean, they work very closely with capes as an entirely normal organization. Not everyone can be stupid enough to buy into the moronic "capes are invulnerable to normals" fiction, especially those who work with them a lot.
Take into account that she specifically uses BJJ to make him shoot himself. That will because of a few things:
1- BJJ is a realitively straight forward system that the Gracie family has expressed as being more akin to chess. Simple concepts and techniques that combine to larger more complex strategies. You may have mastered the system, that doesn't make you the better strategist.
2- A grappling match, no matter the method; looks messy and hard to follow unless you have multiple camera angles, slow motion, and understanding on what they are trying to do.
3- Its obvious that she caught him flat footed. He didn't expect to deal with a young woman who has stated multiple times that she is done being a victim. Her actions, regardless of success, are completely in character. Piggott would most likely thank her.

TL;DR : Surprise attack is super effective, only thing wrong is Victor speaking out turn.

Possibly, not going to stop the Empire from trying to kill her though, or Coil from at least attempting to kidnap her.

Speaking of the slimiest snake, did Taylor ever set up a deadman switch to release all of his information? I forget. If not she probably should just out of spite.

"you've beaten two capes now, which makes you a parahuman in the eyes of the law."
In terms of the law, the PRT would probably need proof of a power. Because otherwise the PRT could take any case it wants / gain jurisdiction whenever by just claiming 'power'.

In terms of how much the PRT monitors her etc. however, thats probably just about whether taylor is suspicious or not.

In canon, sure, because everyone except Dragon was a blithering, incompetent idiot.

Here, we have a competent author, and people in this story will be capable of acting intelligently.

Oh I have absolutely zero doubt the Author is competent. You should probably take into account that people acting intelligently isn't going to always be a good thing for Taylor though, and untill this situation is resolved I will be expecting the worse case scenario(the PRT puzzling out that Taylor has powers).

Whichever way it goes I can't see her not being a person of interest at this point. Beating the unskilled SS? Okay. 15 year old twig beating the superhumanly skilled and experienced Victor is a different matter on its own. Even more so as a second successful fight.

That doesn't automatically make her a parahuman, but it does get attention and the PRT will watch her to some degree. If Coil was watching real-time he's going to set up opportunities to provoke her to see if it was a fluke. She's going to have to get some way to physically protect herself without it looking like she's doing it or she's going to expose herself more and more.

They're rare, but the history of humankind has had a significant number of insanely intelligent and improbably competent people throughout. There are people who are amazing strategists and fighters who have taken on (on the face of it, literally) impossible odds, such as fighting single-handedly against entire armies, and breezed through them. There are people who have single-handedly revolutionized multiple entire fields of study in ways that defy logic and comprehension to someone who couldn't see what they could. There are people who are basically omnicompetent, becoming masters in dozens and even hundreds of fields of study and disciplines with virtually no effort, each of which take most people entire lifetimes to master.

And none of these people were anything but human. They were at the top of the very best humanity can offer, spectacular in all the best ways, but they were 100% "normal" human.

Thinking that only superhumans can accomplish great feats is one of the biggest travesties in Worm, as well as in the modern age.

The different groups official stances matter much less then what opinions they will hold.

I doubt the Empire will believe an ordinary teenage girl killed Victor.

Someone paranoid and with a power attuned towards testing like Coil will be interested in disovering more about her.

Some PRT/Protectorate folks will be suspicious while others will be to focused on PR/possible lawsuits to want to try and mess with Taylor right now, or because of this they might want some leverage over her.

No, but she did make Prometheus and fill him in on how Coil works. At this point the protagonist doesn't yet realize what she's wrought, in that regard.

It should be noted that if someone stubbornly insists they aren't a cape and just want to be left alone, there's not much the PRT can actually do about it unless the person does something criminal. They can't draft people. Even if they're pretty sure that someone's a parahuman despite any claims to the contrary.

Wait, does that mean she can create penny(Rwby)?
Penny is more like an artificial intelligence in a gynoid body than an upload, if we set aside the complicating factors of Aura and Dust. But yes, in principle the main character can make artificial intelligences and synthetic bodies for them with the right charges.

Technically yes, but penny uses dust to operate (I believe) but she could be made with a different power source and stronger weapons! I wonder if Taylor could make star trek/star wars stuff?
As a general rule, stuff compatible with hard sci fi is doable with the appropriate charges. The stuff that basically thumbs its nose at the laws of physics (transporter beams come to mind) instead of just bending them isn't.

It might not be relevant in this case, but, didn't the Protectorate have a Parahuman capable of identifying if someone had powers?
Chevalier, as Lycanthromancer mentioned, but he needs to see someone in person for it to work, and that aspect of his power is a fairly closely guarded secret since it can be used to unmask people.

That may be so but she could file a complaint about harrasment if they persist because, while the PRT can decide that she is effectively a parahuman, legally speaking a "parahuman" has a strict definition, one probably along the lines of "person with a corona pollentia and gemma who has paranormal powers". Take that and combine it with the fact that the PRT now has two reasons to want to discredit Taylor (the Sophia thing and the getting shot by a villain inside the PRT building thing) and you can have a lawyer argue that the PRT is acting outside of their jurisdiction with malicious intentions and force them to fuck off via court order. Just calling her a new Case # wouldn't work either because you can't have a sample size of one and that one just so happens to be someone you'd like under your thumb.

Then they could think she's a cape all they like but could never, ever arrest her because she'd be under the jurisdiction of the BBPD and (assuming federal crimes) the FBI, and not the PRT.
