Rebellion in the land of Veska.

Can someone more fully explain the resource system and why I started out so utterly doomed?
The upkeep is of your army is Half of your total cost.

As Elmador slowly came to consciousness the first thing that hit him was the gnawing hunger that had been dogging him for the last week. He walked out of his hut and looked around the village taking in the appearance of his soldiers and that the fact that they all had the same gaunt look that he assumed his face was slowly heading the same way. (WR 2-8=-6 WR)(-6 WR per turn.)

Army:
2 Archer Militia (upkeep 5 for both)
1 Peasant Spears (Upkeep 5 each)

Blacksmith (+2 resources)
Carpenter (-2 cost but +0 resources)
Palisade Wall (+0 resources)

Long story short it's because you took the maximum army you could (The idea that we could not, only came up later, not blaming you) while also taking almost no income generation.

My understanding is wrong somewhere unless the carpenter is also lowering upkeep by 2. (Which would make sense)

Since I see your +2(black smith) but I'm seeing -10 for unit upkeep.

However yeah you kinda need resources to do anything, I'm presuming your actions can generate some income (hunting with the archers?) Or that after battle rolls are huge.

Yeah I did not understand that, would it be possible for me to shift it so I build the palisade wall later in return for much needed staying alive buildings now?

Wait you didn't understand my post?
Or did not previously understand the rules?

Also tag the GM it's there call, but I switched out my magic, so it should be fine.

I would note though several people are negative, it seems like something that should be manageable, we should see what the Gm says.

EDIT: Your upkeep is probably 8 because he rounded down on the archers where as I used 2.5

That would be 8 exactly.

Just so, you know, I am allowing everyone one freebie. I understand that sometime rules are unclear and that I'm not the best at explaining things. So, I will allow you to remove the palisade and get yourself out of trouble.

Thank you, I swapped it out for a mill and two spare points.

Okay So, I'm going to be posting the IC either tonight or tommorrow. Turns will be about a week of in game time and however long it takes for everybody to answer IRL. You are able to do 3 small tasks and two large ones. Small tasks are things that your General/Chancellor/Leader Dude can do themselves, research, recruitment, Diplomacy the like. Large tasks are things that require at the least one of your units, i.e. raids, construction projects, attacks, scouting, and other things like that.

The initial post is more about giving a sort of overview or how your town and units are doing at this exact moment.

Just to clarify do we do these in the IC or through PM?

Wait, hold on. I'm not sure about my WR calculations. I have a Mill and Butchery. That's 3+10 WR per turn, or 13.

I have 2 archers, with an upkeep of 2.5 each and 1 spear with an upkeep of 5. If we don't round up or down, thats 10 resources used on upkeep alone. If we round up, thats 11 for upkeep. If we round down, thats 9 upkeep. So depending on how the calcs are done, I'm only getting +3, + 2 or +4 per turn.

Right fixed it. I apologize for the confusion on all of this. I made the IC post when I couldn't fall asleep one night and then assumed it had gone well and posted it. This won't happen again.

Found a good picture of what I was talking about with javelins as an infantry weapon, rather than skirmisher uses.

Sorry for being dense, but the process is we send you our turn actions, you send us back their results and then we add the RP info based on the results?

Posting.

Nah, you ask me any questions you have about anything you want to do, if you haven't any questions you can go straight to posting an IC post then once everyone who is playing L make up a Turn Post. Then rinse, wash, and repeat. Unless some ones in combat, We do that in PM and then I copy the entire thing into a single post and put it in the IC Thread.

How many war resources can we reasonably expect to get through major or minor actions respectively?

I mean... it would depend on the actual action? Raiding can get you net you between 12 to 15 WR, battle Scaving can net you between 12 and 30 WR. Small actions like reading can net you things like some amount of Wr or Wealth per turn or things like that.

So, it depends on short vs long term additions.

I see. So I imagine I wrote a very low risk, low reward turn for myself then.

Still, would you consider buffing the end effects of my major actions a tad considering they're on the order of 300% less rewarding than the expected value of scavenging or a raid? I don't want the reward to be more resources per se, but perhaps (for example) "Flurry of Letters" gets me the basics of a spy network as well, or a web of contacts willing to throw me the occasional bone based on the will of the RNG gods.

Of course, I'll also accept that I won't be getting much of anything unless I'm putting my men at major risk (so my rewards stay as written) if that's what you rule, I just feel that I underestimated my ability to gather resources because it's my first turn plan.

I'll see what I can do.

For major actions I am thinking of assembling and sending guarded trade caravans to the northeast coastal city or village and another to Milesworth.

My minor actions will be sending out hunting parties to nearby towns and villages and under the guise of these parties learn about them as much as I can. I will also send along someone who can speak language other than gnoll to Milesworth to do some light spying (nothing illegal) and hire someone willing to teach languages in my village.

Does that work?

Looks good!

@RedDragon2000
You Still in this?

I might spend a minor this turn finding a nice isolated pass the empire ships resources through and try and raid there next turn.
