Puella Magica Somniabunt Sanguinis [PMMM/Bloodborne]

Hello everyone. I am bright eyed and bushy-tailed, with a plate of cheese cackers and a big mug of earl grey, so let's get cracking, shall we?

Plan FlowerSnuggle is victorious, and so in this next update, Homuhugs occur, as well as some mildly disturbing floral arrangement.

Are there some Wiki links I could brush up on? I like Bloodborne Lore a lot, but I haven't a flying fucking idea what is going on with this whole Eldritch Flower business.

Seems fun, though.

*Shrug* We're an Elderitch Flower born of an Ascended Good Hunter and a Human that's... honestly more Blood than Human. There's really not anything more to it than that.

It's just "How would a sapient flower made of blood think and be" and if you don't get that there really isn't anywhere I could point you to to explain it. *Shrug*

Now, see, that sentence alone is three different things that none of which are straightforward unless you deep-dive into the Lore. Here is my understanding of them, after beating Bloodborne and watching lore videos on it more than a year ago:

Eldritch Flower - We look and (try to, maybe) act like a Human, but actually we're a Plant based Lovecraft monster. Powers include:
-Turning parts of our body into (optionally?) thorny vines.
-Spontaneous Mouth generation.
-Moonlight Photosynthesis?
-Eyes that can be used as power sources for Arcane Powers, but aren't particularly useful right now because [young?] .
-Desperation Lasers

Ascended Hunter x Human - So a Hunter in Yharnam got the Secret Ending, Became a Great One a la the Moon Presence, and then...got a human pregnant. I'll admit, I'd probably understand what is going on here if I remember what the fuck was going on with Annaliese, but something about this order of events confuses me.

More Blood than Human - Weren't the Blood-crazed people in Cainhurst just vampires? Kinda bad Vampires, at that?

I'm having some difficulty filling in these gaps of my understanding.

Then just go read up on/watch a video on Annalise and/or Cainhurst? Sounds like the only thing you're missing really.

And... maybe/not really? If Alfred gets to her he crushes her into paste. She get's better.

*Shrug* More Blood than Human.

I'd recommend vaatividya, but he didn't really do Bloodborne a lot. Well, not a lot lot anyway. He's got a video on Alfred.

Child of Blood - pt. 4
"Broken what, Great Eternal One?"

You still aren't entirely sure what is happening to your host. You knew that attempting to comprehend the machinations of the Eternal was an exercise in folly, but when you were told that, you were thinking more impossibly complex recitations of the True Speech which bend minds and made space ripple and tear before it.

This is a slightly less exalted form of confusion, in that her behaviour didn't seem to make much sense. It was almost…human, when you thought about it, mind withdrawing like a snail into the comfort of its shell away from the hostility of an incomprehensible world.

Oh.

Of course.

You keep seeing this barren, worm-gnawed world, and forgetting that the host must be similarly afflicted.
What had your host sacrificed to keep these parasites from sinking their sticky tongues into the very wellspring of her power?

Her memories? Her hopes and dreams? Could it be that her mind was lost in a world as sharp and cold as what surrounds you?

You shudder as you imagine it, a great labyrinth of dark merciless angles, a killing ground where every gnawing bite inflicted upon her tore through her tormentors with barbs of impossible sharpness. Fighting back the only way she can, by making herself as indigestible as possible.

What sacrifice would she have not made, to flee from what must be the worst of all fates for her?

To diminish, to be nothing more than a flailing insect caught in the webs of time, when once you were the spider. When one has forever, how could one ever be content with less, even when all the things that would have made that life worth living have been devoured and reduced to nothing and less than nothing?

A mad impulse fills you.

You approach her bedside, as carefully as any acolyte approached their dying saint.

Still trapped within the murderous maze of her mind, she does not notice you, even when you lay one faintly pink finger against her arm, still warm from where it devoured that fleshy husk.

Darkness. Cold. Sharpness. How easy it must be for her to get lost within her final bastion, now that she had offered up the memories of how to swim amid it for a moment's respite.

You resolve that if you can only do one thing before she banishes you from her presence for your presumption, you will give back to her a touch of what she was forced to lose.

With the grace of a dancer, or simply someone without any internal joints, you sidle your way behind her, until her unseeing rocking sends her falling back against your chest.

You twine your arms around her, concentrating yourself on making your body as soft and warm as possible.
She stops rocking, if only because your embrace prevents it. Her muscles are taunt as steel cable beneath her skin, however, and you have the bittersweet inspiration that you have brought her back to herself, but only because of the terrible threat that her vulnerability had exposed her to.

How do you soothe someone who may have lost every memory where they are not as a rat scurrying through the ashes of their home, who has forgotten the joy that comes with vulnerability, and only recalls the pain and sorrow?

You don't know, but you fully intend to find out.

Your legs, having been entirely unnecessary once you had taken your place behind her, had unravelled and climbed up the wall behind you, forming fine little creepers rather than the reaching, hungering tendrils you had so recently unleashed.

They reached the ceiling and began to grow over you. You might be feeling a little thinner than when you first awoke, but for this, you feel that it would be worth it.

A ripple of viridian impulse passes through you, and behind and around and above you, buds that had shyly hidden themselves away emerged and began to open.

There was no moonlight, so your petals did not glow ethereally with the power that flows through you. There was a memory of it though, and in the gentle, soft light trickling down upon you and your host, you rest your head on her shoulder, white and black hair spilling like a monochrome wave down your sides.

"Everything is going to be ok, Exalted One."

"No it isn't."

Her voice is still cold, but there is no violence in it now, just a terrible exhaustion. You feel her raise her head to look at the flower you made for her, and slowly, by fits and starts, the terrible tension that filled her body started to bleed away.

You can abide with exhaustion.

There are some things that even Old Blood cannot heal, or at least, should not. You won't give up, and maybe, one day, you will get to hear your host smile and laugh, and all the other things that the bodies you wear are so uniquely suited to.

Not today, but soon, you hope.

What else could you do?

Rubyflower used snuggle on Sadhomu, it wasn't very effective.
Then again, what is?
What are your plans for tomorrow, SV?

Honestly, about what I was expecting. She's out of the shock. *Shrug*

A lot of answers rely on Homura asking us questions as it stands. Both for her and ourself since we have never actually been in reality. She might need to rest first now, but we're getting there at least.

I wonder if the Incubator will have to pull double-overtime to keep Ruby a secret. With that being said;

[x] The host is exhausted, and will likely return to Dreamless sleep. If we are to assist The Host, we should begin immediately.
-[x] Vines and flowers outside the room and the window for perception?
--[x] While we have a quiet moment in this Cold, Sharp Place a moment of introspection on our state? We have Purpose, now. Even if we can't go back to the Life we Had, there is a Life here with The Host waiting for us. We should think about how we can be useful.

TLDR

[y] Do
-[y] See
--[y] Think

That's all I got.

Omake idea for anyone feeling up to it, I might even have a go if I need to take a burnout prevention break:
A Skippy's List for all the things that Ruby is not allowed to do in reality any more.
For an explanation of who Skippy is and what his List is on, see here.

[X] Hand the plot off to the sadhomu for a bit, wait for her to start talking; answer questions and stuff.

You know, the 'tell me about your world' conversation that it waiting in the future is another thing that is going to be ripe with wonderful misunderstandings. It's almost like a reverse Rebellion, Homu in reality paranoid that she's Witched out, while her friend keeps trying to 'remind' her that she's actually an all powerful god.

At least one thing stays the same. It's always Kyuubey's fault.

"Broken what, Great Eternal One?"

When I first saw this story, I must admit I expected an overly-ambitious disappointment. I am very happy to see my expectations thoroughly shattered, as it gets me a delicious story to read that is even better than it purported to be. Thank you for writing it, and I look forward to the next chapter!

LET THE MISCONCEPTIONS FLOW ETERNAL.

How does that coincide with her having a Human avatar in Reality though? A Human Avatar in a Dream is one thing. A Human Avatar in Reality implies that the being is or at least gets humanity on some level.

I'd think we'd see it more as she's got a fragment of an Eternal One lodged into her if we can take a look at her. Which... we might? As far as I see, we reach Understanding through Blood. She has blood, so if we taste it we'll see she... was human at least, if not is human.

A different take on an Augur that's also half-way to being a Hunter in how it's implemented. Even if we can't make heads or tails of how. And depending on how Witches work/what they really are, that might not be too far off actually.

I already love the fact ruby thinks Homu reduced herself to "survive" and is trying to take care of a being she thinks should normally be above her, and if you're looking forward to the next batch of misunderstandings then this is going to be fun.

Oh and it's interesting she thinks the kyubey is a parasite. Unless I've missed something they really are trying to prevent the end of the universe. Maybe Ruby just doesn't know?

Honestly, they actually could be, for all we really know about them. They're ultimately the only things that would ever know if they could actually lie or not.

It's mostly the fact that the Great Ones and their Dreams are basically made of congealed emotion and magic. Something that lacks emotions is setting off her THING THAT SHOULD NOT BE alarm, and from her point of view, the fact that reality isn't full of emotions and magic as a fact of existance is just too out of the left field for her to believe when there's a perfectly reasonable infestation of emotionless horrors to blame it on.

Kyuuby is the Eldritch Horror for Eldritch Horrors. I was fairly sure it was something like that anyway, everything the Great Ones do seems to be driven by emotion. Something that lacks them would be anathema to them.

Ruby doesn't think she's in reality. For her, reality would be woodland/post-industrial gothic cities, since that's what she was told reality was like. Think of it like the simluated reality argument, if making your own world is basically a rite of adulthood for Great Ones, that means that there are a lot of Dreams floating around, where as there is only one Reality. If you find yourself in a strange new world, it is far, far more likely (from Ruby's perspective at least) that she's just in a wierd Dream.

There must be some fundamental differences between Dreams and Reality (or Realities) that can be tested otherwise there would be no need to have a distinction between the two categories in the first place. Wouldn't those either be apparent or testable in some way?

Presumably, but Ruby has never existed within reality, and so wouldn't know what things to look for. The cold, dark and sharp feelings are the same as she would be feeling if she was in reality, but she doesn't know that the absence of the snuggly warm magic that makes Dreams so muc h more pleasant for Great Ones to live in is because it was never there in the first place, rather than it was eaten by Incubators.

When she encounters a Witch Barrier, she's likely going to be a bit more introspective about it, and she won't take it very well when she realises both what a mistake she's made, and that the reality she's now in doesn't make sense to her any more.

... Well that will probably happen soon anyway. Homura is very much a creature of habit at this point as well, and she collects and stockpiles Grief Seeds. Having us tag along is going to throw her off, but I don't think she'll just up and leave us as it is either.

If only you picked the Gold gem, or even Embrace...

Sad plant noises just aren't the same as puppy eyes and some plaintive whimpers. You could have had headpats. Headpats!
