Chapter 2 - Ill mornings, part two, 4
[X] Hugs
-[X] I was so scared. There were so many people, and I didn't have enough magic to help them all.
[X] Try and go back to sleep.

You let some of your tears fall down freely on your pillow. You don't care about the headache, you don't care about the nausea, not now. Your body convulses, and you let go of Mr. Fluffy in favor of rising up from underneath your blanket. It's difficult to move without almost throwing up, so you take it slow.

Then, once you've gotten there, you throw yourself into a tight embrace with your aunt, continuing to shed your tears onto her woolen shirt and cry out your mind. "I-I was so scared…" you sob out quietly, your hoarse voice breaking under the stress. "Th-there… There were so many people, and I-I didn't have magic to help them all."

Your aunt's arms are gently wrapped around you in return, and she pats you on the back. "It's alright, you're here, it's over now. There's no need to worry anymore."

You simply hug her tighter, unwilling to let go of your support. "I don't want to feel like that again…" Feel powerless and feeble, feel that you cannot save those in danger, no matter how hard you try. The mere thought is crushing.

This time your aunt doesn't say anything, but simply gives you a gentle squeeze, before detaching herself. She aids you back to your bed, and gives you a small smile. "I know. But get some rest now, Tamiko. It will take a few minutes for the tablet to kick in. If you wake up, drink some to keep yourself hydrated. It will all pass."

The woman picks up Mr. Fluffy and lays the plushie on your arms, before drawing the blanket back over you. She gives you a quick prod on your forehead, and you nod back weakly while hugging your precious Fluffy. "Alright, see you later, kid."

You close your eyes as your aunt leaves the room, trying to get yourself some rest. It's difficult at first, with the terrible state you're in. But after some time of laying still, the medicine starts to kick in, and you fall asleep again for the moment. Between the early mornings of the entire previous week, on some level you can appreciate the chance to sleep in, nausea or no...

You don't know how long you were out there with the restless sleep, but when you fully wake up again, you notice that the headache seems to have gone away for the most part. The feeling of nausea is still there, but it seems to have diminished to a general feeling of not being well, rather than the horrible sense of you being about to die soon.

Your throat feels very dry too, and you're starving.

What do you do?

It's about 2 pm in-quest.

We've been radio-silent for almost a day. We should really make sure everyone knows we're okay better now.

[X] Water. Water is a very wonderful thing.
-[X] Drink and eat until the thirst and hunger fade.
[X] Tell your friends you're okay, via telepathy and by phone.

[x] Get something to drink and eat. Drink slowly and eat something light until your stomach settles. Don't overdo it.

One thing regarding nausea. You want to avoid eating really heavy foods. Avoid dairy. Have some light soup, even just broth is ideal. Perhaps some crackers or hard pretzels.

I've never been really nauseous before, so this is probably a better idea.

You give Mr. Fluffy a quick squeeze, before making your way out of your bed with careful and soft movements. You don't really want to upset your stomach any more than you already have. Throwing up is not fun, especially if there's nothing to puke out.

You're greeted by the lightless apartment, with every possible curtain having been closed to prevent light from shining in. You almost freak out at first, before managing to calm down enough to think. It's probably just your aunt making sure your headache won't get worse from the bright lights.

You can appreciate the thought.

You actually find the woman in question in the kitchen, her back turned to you as she sleeps against the table. The long pink hair is strewn around her, and she doesn't even stir when you come to the room.

Next to her, presented directly to the doorway is a small plate, containing two simple loaves of bread, and a few apples and bananas. You hesitate for a moment, before picking them up quietly. It's not too difficult to guess what the light meal is there for, especially as you have the jug of water and the glass in your room already.

You tiptoe your way out of the dark room, careful to not wake up your aunt with any noise you might cause. Once you've closed the door behind you, you loosen up a bit, and set the plate down on the tray, sitting down before it.

With your state what it is, you start the light meal slow by nibbling through the bread and gulping down the sweet, delicious water. It takes you a while, but you make it through your late breakfast quietly and efficiently, feeling a bit better afterwards. You're no longer hungry at least, though you still wouldn't trust your ability to hold down anything spicy.

But once you're down sating your thirst and hunger, you're left with the question: what to do next? You don't really feel like sleeping anymore, and you are not in a shape to really go anywhere, especially with your friends…

Which actually reminds you, they probably don't even know that you're alright!

You set your tableware aside, and sit down on your bed to focus on a telepathic message to your Magical Girl friends. 'Uh, is everyone there? I hope I'm not interrupting anything important.'

'Tamiko!'
Kishi practically screams to you nigh immediately in response, before shrinking back awkwardly. 'O-oh… S-sorry, I was just a little worried.'

'Hey, you're finally awake then?'
Ariane follows up, sounding happy about hearing from you. 'Are you alright?'

'...And no, you didn't interrupt anything important,'
Mariko finishes lamely. '...How bad's the headache, anyway? Nausea? Can you still see well? Try to eat something bland and light, and drink water, it should ease up the hangover.'

You smile to yourself, awkward in the face of the questions. 'Yeah, I'm fine. I felt really terrible when I woke up for the first time, but my uncle's been helping me out here. Just ate some toast and fruit, actually, and I'm starting to feel better.'

'G-good to hear,'
Kishi tells you. 'Y-you really scared us there when you collapsed and didn't wake up.'

'Yeah, sorry about that!'
you answer sheepishly. 'But I'm better now, trust me… Oh, um! Is Evelyn in school.'

'Yeah,'
Kishi allows. 'I-I was actually hanging out with her when you called last night, s-so there was no hiding what happened to you there afterwards. S-she's pretty agitated about everything that happened last night.'

'Oh, maybe I should call her then?'

'I-I'd say wait until the day's over. S-she's in class like me at the moment,'
Kishi advises you.

Why is it that Mariko knows exactly how to treat a hangover? We really need to talk to our aunt about her situation, and maybe do some snooping.

Jesus christ, how tired is she?

Past experience. Some of her group, maybe even her, probably got shitfaced once or twice.

But you don't have to be a party person to drink. Sometimes you just want to drown the world out, numb the pain, you know?

If you're a 14 year old girl, chances are the only reason you're drinking is to party. The parent explanation makes more sense to me, and fits with what else we know of her situation.

We have magical girls like Kyoko. I think the portion of MGs willing to break the law on legal drinking age for a bit of 'self-medication' is a bit higher than you give credit for
