[x] "H-Hello... Remember me?"

Chapter 2 - Resolution 8
[x] "H-Hello... Remember me?"

It takes every ounce of your strength to lift up your shaking leg from the floor. It feels like a thousand ton weight had been precariously balanced there, preventing you from moving, while making you struggle to maintain your balance. This is not helped by the way your stomach seems to be twisting upon itself, making you wish that you could empty your guts.

You almost fall over for your efforts, only barely managing to catch the fall with your leg, while grabbing the frame to the hall with your hand. Perhaps it's for the better that they couldn't have noticed that happening to you. You cannot- won't screw this up.

You can't go back to not remembering or caring anymore…
"Ooh!, Did you see!? Did you see!? There was a shooting star, right there!"

"Really? No fair, let me see too! Don't hoard the telescope to yourself, Matsuko!"

"...Tamiko, it was very visible even without the scope. And it's not like you can catch it anymore."

"Yeah, pay attention, dummy!"

"Hmm, doesn't that mean that Matsuko get a wish, though?"

"Ooh, that sounds awesome! What're you wishing for, Matsuko? Come one, you can tell us!"

"Hmm... Nah! It won't come true if I say it, right? So you won't ever get to know~!"

"Aaa, you meanie!"

"Well, it's probably nothing, really. I think that may have been just a satellite."

"...BOO!!!"

You can see Ami's eyes focusing straight to you, while the gazes of the two girls aimlessly wander around the room in between the curious glances at the lavender-haired girl.

You try opening your mouth, but are forced to close it nigh immediately as a dry wail turning into a chortle almost escapes you. Dammit, not now, not yet… You only need to keep it together for a few moments more.

"Alright, let's get warmed up. Wouldn't want to disappoint our dear audience, now would we?"

"Yeah, we wouldn't hear the end of it if we lost here! ...But just why did it have to rain today of all times?"

"Eh, that happens. Just tough it out and keep on running, and you won't get cold. I know I'll be jumping around a lot myself."

"Bleh, I'll ask uncle to make hot chocolate after this. You in?"

"No sane girl would ever miss out on that… By the way, do you still have those big marshmallows? Asking for a friend..."

"I-I… I-I…" you stutter out with a hoarse voice. You need to focus! Don't falter, just speak up! "H-h-hello… D-do you… D-do you still r-remember me?"

You don't even flinch as the familiar glassy look simultaneously overcomes both of the girls, causing their eyes to gloss over and their bodies to stiffen for a moment. It's over quick, even though to you the moment feels like an eternity passing through.

And then their eyes regain their focus, and they turn to you, and you can see how they both blink in surprise, one at a time. It feels like the entire world was suddenly bearing down onto your shoulders, grinding you down under its oppressive weight, all the while you writhe in the terror of what you were going to hear.

"Hi there! Are you joining the team too? I'm Yuujin, by the way, nice to meet you! Do you want to be friends?"

Yuujin narrows her eyes slightly and opens her mouth first, while taking a light and easy step forward to see you better. "Huh, give me sec here… Hmm, wait, Tamimoe?" Her eyebrows shoot up and she cocks her head to the side. "Haven't seen you in a while! Where did you even disappear off to?"

Right after her, Matsuko gently pushes her to the side and actually marches to stand right before you. She starts inspecting you closely, as she brandishes her glasses. She seems to have grown a lot since you last met, even if she's only barely taller than you, and her eyes still radiate the familiar mirth.

"E-excuse me… Can I sit down here? It's full everywhere else, and uh… I-I'm Nagai Matsuko! And, um..."

"Oh, it's been such a long time!" she exclaims, and frowns when she gets a closer look at you. Behind her, Yuujin seems to have followed her to inspect you closer too. "Why the tears, though? ...Actually, you look like you've been through hell in general! What's the matter? What happened?"

Something breaks inside you upon hearing the words, and the floodgates open. You just need to- You just...

What do you do?

I know its an emotional reunion but part of me is annoyed at the lack of reaction to seeing a close friend you havent seen in years. It wasnt much of a first impression from their side.

I think their minds made up mundane reasons for Tomiko's disappearance. Parents get new jobs out of the city, whole family moves?

They are starting to show some surprise and concern due to the "surprising" amount distress on Tomiko's face. It s a sign somethings wrong.

[X] Try to talk with them...
-[X] You missed them so much.
--[X] Let it all out. Reminisce if you have to.

Instead of initiating the hug like we always do, let us be hugged instead. They're our friends, and I'm sure they'll hug us without needing to be prompted.

It'll give Tamiko some closure in the knowledge that her friends can reach out to her instead of it always being the other way around.

But... for the longest time, they didn't because of a curse. The only reason they will now is because Tamiko reached out first. We can break that habit when the effects of the curse are more solidly dealt with.

Yup, and now, our part is done. It's their turn to comfort Tamiko now.

She's still scared, there's still doubt, and what better way to dispell that than letting her friends comfort her of their own volition without prompting them to do so?
