Blame me being a powergamer, but this curse seems like it has great combat potential. Enemies can't notice you unless you make contact? I'd grab that ability any day in a game.

Easy to say when you're not the one affected by it, causing everyone to disappear from your life.

To be even more fair, now that she has ability to choose whether people remember her, it is pretty nifty ability, if it works on potential enemies. Before that...well, yeah.

EDIT: Wait, does her "notice me"-active skill works only on personal contact? Good luck looking for job then.

-[x] Evelyn, Kishi you can see me, you can hear me, you notice me. You're exempt. But my classmates? Almost everyone else? They don't see me. They don't talk to me. They don't notice me. They can't. And I didn't know it.
-[x] It's not hopeless. The curse isn't unbeatable. You two can see me right? So can Ariane and Mariko and My Uncle and Miss Cathy. And now Hana too. She should be able to see me now. It's not hopeless. I can fight back now. I will fight it. I'm not giving up.

You stay completely silent and still for a moment, as the pressure of the situation grows heavy upon your shoulders. Once more you are reminded how you came here without really preparing anything beforehand. But with the way your friends keep staring at you, you'll have to come up with something.

You bite your lips and open your mouth. Here goes nothing. "Kishi, sorry… I know this is coming out of the blue. But something happened in the class today, and it scared Evelyn a bit. I-I need to explain what happened, because 'what' happened..." You pause for a second and shake your head. "For me, that's not unusual."

A faint frown begins to form on Kishi's face as she takes in what you just said. She seems to have realized that this is going to be even more serious than she at first thought. "T-Tamiko?"

You offer the girl a weak smile in return. "Maybe you've noticed. Or not. I don't know," you say, and wait a moment to check if there's any sign of realization on Kishi's face. But you see only concern and confusion, and so decide to just keep going while you still have momentum.

"Outside of our circle, I don't really- haven't talked to anyone. My uncle noticed that. And last night, he advised me to start talking to my classmates again, and maybe make some friends," you explain to them as well as you can, as your voice starts to gag at a few points.

But you need to keep going. "I-I needed Evelyn's help," you blurt out and throw a grateful look at the girl in question, "I-I… I don't know if I could've done it on my own. Evelyn introduced me to another girl in our class and, well...

You stop and look at your friend once more, this time pleading her "Evelyn? C-could you… Could you tell what happened, please? It's better if you share what you saw happen with Hana."

Evelyn nods at you with some hesitation and turns to look at Kishi, "Basically, when we went to talk to Hana, the class representative in the council, she didn't seem to notice Tamiko at first. But that… changed, I suppose? Well, when Tamiko spoke to her, Hana's eyes went all glassy and she turned as stiff as a board for a second, before going on like nothing had happened."

Evelyn grimaces at the memory, "It was quite creepy, I'll tell you that. I don't think I can really do the experience justice here."

"B-but how does that work? W-why would she react like that?"
Kishi asks and focuses all of her attention to you. Though she doesn't say it out loud, she seems to be realizing that what you're going to say won't be pleasant.

"E-Evelyn, what you saw with Hana… the exact same thing happened when I first talked to you," you say, desperately fighting to keep your increasingly strained voice from cracking, "Y-you were just like her. I-if… If I hadn't talked to you that day we first met, you wouldn't have seen me. You wouldn't have noticed me. I-it would have been as if I… as if I wasn't even there."

You lay your gaze down on the cold roof below you, unable to look your friends in the eyes anymore. Tears are starting to well up in your eyes in spite of your efforts to keep it together and you clench your fists, "I-I didn't know, for the longest time- That's how it's like for everyone else… Has been for years… If not for my wish, I-"

You slam your teeth together as hard as you can to prevent the sob threatening to erupt out of your throat. It doesn't stop the ensuing sniffle, however, and you are left wondering how pathetic you must look, unable to even talk coherently anymore.

You gulp down a lump in your throat. You still have things to say, despite the strained voice, the slowly blurring vision, and the growing desire to flee. You are not done here. So even if it risks you breaking down, you keep talking.

"I-I have a curse…" you whisper as loudly as you can, your voice finally betraying you, "I've had it for years… and I didn't… I didn't even know it was a curse until Uncle and miss Cathy showed it to me just a few days ago."

You can hear how the breathing of Kishi pulls into an abrupt halt, and even Evelyn has fallen deathly silent. You don't need to see to know that the realization of what is going on must have hit them hard.

"Evelyn… Kishi… Y-you can see me, and you can hear me… You notice me. Y-you're exempt," you cry out, a tidy bit of your resentment for the curse and whatever caused it bubbling up, "B-but my classmates?" Family and friends... "Almost everyone else? T-they don't see me. They don't talk to me. They don't notice me. They can't. A-and I didn't… I didn't even know…"

But they do… They still do. You are not yet lost.

"I-it's… it's not hopeless!" you manage to stammer out as you start lifting your gaze from the icy concrete, "I-it isn't unbeatable… Y-you two can see me, right? So can Ariane and Mariko and Uncle and Miss Cathy and Ami and now Hana too! I-It's not hopeless, I can.. I can fight back now… and I-I-"

"Damn straight you will fight back! And don't you even dare to think about giving up!"
Evelyn practically shouts over you, and before you know it, she's marched over and pulled you into a tight hug from your side, "So lift up your eyes, Tamiko, don't hide now."

With great reluctance, you fully raise your eyes and turn your tear-filled face so that your gaze is locked with her clear blue eyes. She is smiling at you, her face radiating warmth and encouragement at you, "I don't know how something like that could have even come to pass… But if there's even the smallest of chance to fight it back, then do it to tooth and nail!"

You're left completely stunned and speechless, as you try saying something, anything, to your friend's encouragement. But your voice fails utterly, and you only manage to let out a sniffle as she continues.

"If you're going through hell, then keep on going! And don't forget that I- We know that you can do it. We believe in you! You're a good friend, Tamiko, and we are there for you to help you. We can see that you're sad and battered by this curse, we can hear that you're crying for respite, and we can notice that you are there, a friend in need."

Evelyn…

"So don't forget, you have your friends here. You have friends out there too! So if you're going to cry… Well, I, uh... didn't actually get to think of the speech that far... So, uh..." Evelyn blinks and a certain sheepish tinge enters her smile, "More hugs it is! You can never go wrong with that!"

Without any other warning, Evelyn tightens her hug on you as promised, pulling you closer against her. You don't get to do anything about it, though, as you feel another pair of arms wrap around you from your other side. A quick look to the side shows Kishi embracing you as closely as she can, while Evelyn begrudgingly makes some room for her.

"T-Tamiko?" she asks quietly, looking almost sad herself, "I-I don't really have the words for this. But the curse... h-how it must have felt to you. I-I'm sorry, Tamiko, I'm so sorry… No one should have to endure that, least of all you."

"J-just remember, please… Y-you're still here, and we know, and we care. Y-you're still alive too, and even now..." Kishi says and takes your hands with her, a faint red tinge on her cheeks. You don't manage to put up any resistance as she gently guides them to your chest, "E-even now I can hear the soft thump of the gentle heart beating there."

True, you can feel the faint, but fast, rhythm…

"I-it shows that you're still here after everything," Kishi says and takes her hands off yours, leaving yours laid on your chest to feel the soft thumps of your still-beating heart, "You have us here. Y-you can cry on our shoulders if you need to. Y-you don't have to bear it by yourself."

Maybe… Maybe you-?

"T-Tamiko… E-even now… You're not alone, not anymore."

What do you do?

[] ...

Edit: Never Early

[x] Cry tears of joy. "Thank you..."
-[x] Hug your two friends for all you're worth.
-[x] Stay that way as long as possible.

Don't worry, Evelyn. Hugs are perfectly normal. Tamiko is a good influence.

WOO! Hot damn, this is exactly the reaction we were looking for.

Glad that turned out well. We still have to tell Ariane and Mariko eventually, but maybe after our talk with Ami in the hospital.
