Chapter 2 - Take a break 27
[X] Tell him you understand.
-[X] But you didn't specifically skip school just to hunt. You did it for Mariko and Kishi.

"I-I understand, uncle" you hastily tell him and gulp a lump in your throat. Sure, you knew that your uncle was going to have a lot more serious things to talk with you, but you weren't really expecting anything like this, "It's just that, well…"

You fall quiet for a moment, struggling to find the words. These are not things for which you have answers ready, and the thoughts coming to your mind are not easy to put into words. Your uncle seems to have realized this much, and is patiently waiting for you. 'There is no rush, you can think it through properly,' he seems to be telling you without saying anything.

But despite that, you don't think procrastinating will accomplish anything, and you blurt out the first coherent thing that pops into your mind. "W-well, I didn't skip school just to hunt… Not specifically," you say quietly and pull up your legs on the bed to rest your arms and head on your knees.

You avert your gaze from your uncle and lock it with the floor as you continue. "It was all for Mariko and Kishi... They were the ones that needed it," it was their struggle, you were only there to help them.

To your side, your phone buzzes quietly. Evelyn must have sent you the homework, but at the moment you don't really care.

"But even if we skipped school to give Mariko and Kishi a chance wind down from all the drama… I honestly like being a Magical Girl," you say, steadily growing more confident in your words, "I like how I'm saving lives by being one, I like how I can make a difference!"
How you actually matter…
You lift your eyes away from the cold floor and look back at your uncle. The man seems to offer no clear reaction to your previous words, content to keep listening to what you have to say until you're done. However, you think you can see a flicker of a frown on his face, but it's gone as fast as it appeared.

This is fine, though. You were just about to finish.

"I-it's an important part of my life, true. I won't deny that being a Magical Girl means so much to me in so many ways..." you let go of your feet, and let them fall back on the floor, as you lean back on your arms, "But it's not the most important part. I believe-.. feel that, now... there's much more to my life that."

Your uncle stays quiet for a moment, looking at you as if he was analyzing every single detail in your answer for hidden signs and hints. He does crack a slight smile after a while when he's done, and you think he is satisfied enough with your answer, even if it probably wasn't perfect.

"I see then… But remember to keep what I said in mind, kiddo, that line of thinking is not something you notice easily. It's something that grows without you noticing it, if you don't stay reflective of yourself," he says, but doesn't yet rise up from your bed, "I have faith that you can do that."

You nod firmly, "Yes, uncle! You can trust me."

"Good to hear that,"
he says and looks a bit more thoughtful for a moment, "But I'm afraid there's another related question I think you should mull over for a bit."

"Uh, what?"

"Have you yet thought about reaching out to your classmates and teacher? And why so?"
the man asks and your eyes widen in surprise. What has that to do with anything!? "You now have the chance to enjoy your time with them without anything between you. But yet, I've noticed that the only one of your classmates who you seem to interact with or even acknowledge is Evelyn, who transferred in last week."
Why should you care about them?
What do you do?

While it is another important question, I honestly expect it to get resolved in the next update. Uncle is here to offer some advice and give you some insight to improve your current life, rather than actively calling you on random shit.

Hmm. Good point. If interacting with people is the catalyst for allowing them to "notice" Tamiko, then perhaps reaching out to them would be a good move. Of course, it means that we actually have to go to school and do homework (which we've been understandably not prioritizing; why bother when no one will notice?), but it's doable. Of course, it's probably going to be very eerie for the teacher if we do do it, just like it was for Amy.

I'm not 100% sure how teachers work in Japan, but we've been cursed for more than just this school year. Unless the teacher knew us back before we were cursed, she will probably just think she's meeting a quiet student she didn't happen to notice before. Amy got so weirded out because she was one of our best friends before the curse.

It might weird the teacher out that nobody else notices her, like, not even the students. Not as bad as it was for Amy, but I'd be surprised if they didn't notice something.

[x] Answer your uncle
-[x] It just never crossed my mind? I guess? I'm sort of still getting used to people being around at all.
--[x] I think it would be better for me to go slow, pick and choose the people I want to focus on. At least at first.

The day you run out of jokes based on my avatar is the day @Muramasa finally hooks up with you. :V

I came here under the assumption that you needed help Ube. I did not expect this discussion at all. :V

I agree. LostRex came before.
:(

I'm disappointed you have so little faith, Ube. I know I've been absent from the thread and all, but I try to keep up! It's just that I have so little time on my hands these days...

Fine. If you want to play that game, I'll binge this thread tomorrow after I get home! It's a long way from 311 to 398 but I'll do it! :sour:
