Huh, Ariane makes a good magical type of force recon if she remembers and can direct her dream persona.

Except she can't really control her ghost form that much.

More practice maybe? Except it's expensive on grief and worry...

The problem is that it's prohibitively expensive, she doesn't remember things clearly, and it's hard to direct it. On the other hand, she can soften up a Witch even if she loses.

It's not a terrible idea, but it'd be difficult at best and only worthwhile against really powerful Witches, I think, and even then only sometimes. Maybe with some refinement of that ability, it'd be more viable.

You and Kishi both nod hesitantly at Ariane's statement. You were in no hurry to start blasting the barrier around you in the first place. Not to mention, if she remembers enough from her ghost's tenure here to warn you about it, it is probably for the better to listen.

Instead, you turn your focus on the cleared area in front of you. Knowing what signs to look for, you can now confidently say you are walking up a gently sloping floor and make sure to tell it to your friends, 'T-this place is like a pit, the floor is inclined up slightly. I-if we go forward, we are likely to find a good hole to jump through.'

'I-I think you are right, n-now that I look at it,' Kishi says to you with a nod, making you feel a small amount of pride at noticing something before her, 'S-so we are going to use the s-spools as stepping stones then?'

'Yes, i-it looks like there is something important upstairs, maybe even the witch itself… I-it wouldn't hurt to search for the witch there right?' you answer back, 'L-let's get going!'

The three of you walk across the clearing, keeping your guard up. While the open terrain does give you the advantage of visibility, you are not going to take any chances if you can help it. Fortunately, you manage to get through the area without any incidents. It seems like most of there aren't any familiar left to work in this particular area.

It is disconcerting feeling to walk back into the maze of the red silk curtains. It doesn't take too long to find a useful-looking cluster of the spools that are within jumping distance of each other. Kishi is the first one to jump upwards. The van-sized white spool sways slightly from the impact, but doesn't lose any altitude.

Encouraged by the sight, you and Ariane follow after Kishi, jumping from one spool onto another until you reach the hole to the second floor. You make it through it, and and to a very different sight to the one below.

You are standing on a silken red plateau filled with similar holes and surrounded by walls made of the same material converging far above you. You think they form the interior of an egg… or a Soul Gem. A small distance away from you stands a gigantic tower made white-covered sewing machinery tirelessly processing the sheets of red emerging from the bottom floor through the holes in the ground.

In the air all over the place float several spools with red thread and a great deal more of truck-sized ones with golden ribbon. All of them slowly spin as their material is eaten by the machinery in front of you. Unlike before, you can't make out any needles or scissors working here.

The witch is easy to spot.

A house-sized fowl made of red silk sheets and brimmed with heavy golden ornamentation flies around the sewing tower. The material sways gently in the wind, and the motion feels almost hypnotic to watch. Its tail flutters dozens of meter behind it, composed of long strands of the silk and ribbon. Its eyes seem to be replaced with a spool stuck through its red head.

You can't see any legs on the witch's body and its beak looks like a pair of large scissors. You make a mental note to at least stay away from that part of it, as it is the most obvious weapon on the creature.

The witch has also spotted you, as it starts flying towards your position through the gaps between the floating spools. Despite the accumulating velocity, it makes no sound as it moves.

Well that was remarkably simple. Oh, wait, look invisitext. Sneaky Witch is doing something sneaky, but we'll just have to deal with it as it comes.

Currently, I'm thinking for plans, that we charge up more while everyone bunches up behind us. If it goes to crash into us or attack us, as it seems it might, we use our new defensive shield to stop the initial attack and protect everyone, then have everyone scatter and attack it. If it halts, then we have everyone spread out and attack it all the same, but we open the fight with a powerful sword blast.

-[X] Shoot the bird out of the sky.

[X] Prepare for the impact.

Concentrate our fire so we take it down faster. Actual Witch is probably underground so it's better we stick together. When it pops up and we block it, all three of us shoot it to death.

[X] Coordinate with Kishi and Ariane.
-[X] Shoot the bird out of the sky.

[x] Be ready to dodge. Avoid the scissor beak. Use the spools if available.
[x] Use enchanted sword and slash the wings if still mobile. Otherwise slash the body from the sides or behind. Avoid that beak.
-[x] Jump boost at the witch if necessary.

I want to try and be a bit more cost efficient for this fight. A lot of our powers are often misused and we end up eating more corruption then necessary. We have a sword. We can use it as a sword. Leave the gunnery to Kishi and Ariane.

'K-Kishi, Ariane, full firepower on that bird! Let's bring it down while it still away from us!' you hastily tell your friends and grasp the handle of your sword in preparation for an attack. If the things is not taken down by your friends, then you can be the one to finish the job.

Then you feel the movement under your boots. It is barely noticeable and if it wasn't for the fact that this is a witch barrier, you would probably have just written it off as something unimportant. But as it is…

'Dodge!' you shout and jump to the side with a roll. Fortunately, it seems that they understood what you were trying to say as they scatter to different directions.

[Tamiko dodge: 96 vs 25]
[Kishi dodge: 84 vs 46]
[Ariane dodge: 95 vs 22]

Good thing too, as swarms of the human-sized needles tied with red thread burst out from the ground where you were standing previously. They don't bother staying visible for long as they begin burrowing back into the ground almost immediately and leaving small segments of the thread on the floor.

You suspect getting hit by them would have done nasty things both to yourself and your mobility.

[Kishi attack: 46 vs 58]
[Ariane attack: 84 vs 27]

Kishi doesn't waste time to dwell on what happened, instead opting to launch a continuous volley of rifle fire to the witch. Unfortunately, the monster manages to dodge everything, evading the fire with surprisingly fast aerial maneuvers and using the large spools as cover.

Unfortunately for the witch, it doesn't notice Ariane who bursts two large orbs at it. The beams pierce the bird's left wing which turns into a roaring inferno as the beams set it on fire upon contact. It seems to lose its full flight capacity from the hit as its flight turns clumsy, more akin to emergency gliding.

[Tamiko attack: 92 vs 37]
You take the chance to strike at the witch while it is distracted.. Channeling a small amount of the white energy to your legs and your sabre, you burst into the air with the aid of your jump boost. The witch never knew what hit as you draw your white-coated sword and slash through its right wing.

The silk is easy to cut through even without the aid of the white energy, but you are surprised to discover that the insides are quite hard. Your sabre pierces through it successfully, but as you soar through the air behind the witch, you catch a glimpse of something metallic flashing inside the silken covers.

You land on one of the lower spools with a thud and gaze down to see the results. The wing you sliced lays about a dozen meters away from the main body, which has crashed to the ground and is burning merrily. It seems to lose all composition as the silken body deflates and falls flat on the ground. Only the eye-spool remains beneath the layers of textiles to create a higher spot on the otherwise thin layers.
The wing moves slightly.
You think this qualifies as a success.
There are faint bumps spreading on the ground.
