@Snow, videos aren't too difficult to find considering you did that very thing with your sabre.

FYI, The list of media you have for your sabre-fighting is as follows:

Hmm, I think I can update at this point.... This is going to get, uh, interesting.

Also, mechanics post now has a fancy tab list of some important locations. Notify me if something important is missing or if you find typos/clunky language. Mariko also got a picture.

You shake your head slightly as Ariane's ghost form disappears from sight. Who knows what she is up to at the moment, and what caused her to leave so suddenly? Regardless, you turn your attention to Evelyn and try to explain this to the best of your ability, "I have no idea why we can't wake Ariane up… B-but we do know she's alive and just sleeping! Err, e-even if quite soundly…"

Well, it is not like you have that good of an understanding yourself… Still, you try to smile placatingly at your friend, hoping to assure her that it is going to be okay, "S-still, no need to worry! T-this is normal as far as I know."

She doesn't seem assured. At all. You frown and take a quick look at everyone, thinking what to do next. Maybe you should try some other method of waking up Ariane? Yeah, that sounds like a good idea, so you crouch next to sleeping girl again. "D-do you have a bottle of water or something? W-we could splash Ariane's face with it!" you suggest to your friends.

"I-I'm afraid not," Kishi says unsurely, followed by Evelyn, "Me neither…"

Well, there goes that plan. You frown and turn to look at Ariane again. She is still sleeping soundly on the ground, unaware of your problem. Next to her is the half-filled Soul Gem, which you grab on a whim.

You stare at the contents. Upon closer inspection, there is definitely something wrong with the Gem. There seem to be clear holes both in the black grief-filled parts and the normal green-lit portions, almost like there wasn't enough substance inside to fill the whole trinket.

Your frown deepens. You don't what that is supposed to mean, but if the Soul Gem is the source of a Magical Girl's power… Does Ariane split her magic with herself and the ghost form perhaps? How would that even work?

You shake your head to focus yourself. Theory-crafting won't help you now. Instead, you decide to try contacting Ariane through telepathy next, 'C-can you hear me Ariane? W-wake up, please… W-wake up!'

You almost jump in surprise when you actually get a response from her. Unfortunately, there is no sound but an extremely disconcerting view of flashing lights and utterly alien shapes that hurt to look at. You grip your forehead and grit your teeth. Clearly you are going to need extreme methods.

"O-okay, telepathy didn't work… and I think we should not try that in the future. Ugh, my head…" you groan out loud.

"A-are you okay, T-Tamiko? W-what happened?" Kishi asks you worriedly.

"I'm fine, just a headache. B-but Ariane's form of communication isn't exactly normal when in that form," you answer and rubs your head a bit, "C-can you try making noise? M-maybe she can hear us when sleeping?"

There is a moment's pause as all three of you fall silent. Kishi is the one to break first as she sighs, "C-cover you ears. T-this is going to get l-loud."

She immediately transforms in a flash of red light and extends her arm to the side. A steel pipe drops to the ground next to her while a chainsaw appears in her outstretched arm. Evelyn immediately takes a few dozen running steps back while you just cup your ears i preparation.

Kishi turns on the saw and begins the grinding. The voice is incredibly loud, able to pierce through your hands and wish you were deaf. It is half because of this and half because it is clear that even the cacophonous grinding of chainsaw against metal isn't working, that you decide to resort to your last option.

Without warning, you grab Ariane's body and set her firmly against your own. You proceed to do the most obvious thing and run around quickly without any actual aim, mixing several high jumps into the routine.

Should any unwanted people happen to get there they would be greeted to the bizarre sight of a girl running around inhumanely fast and occasionally jumping several meters to the air all the while carrying an unconscious body of another girl on her arm. Near them is a hooded person trying to cut a metal pipe in half with a chainsaw, clearly in for the noise rather than any practical benefits.

Evelyn seems to have realized this at least, and is leaning against a tree while hiding her face behind cupped hands. She is muttering something, but her voice gets drowned by the screeching from the chainsaw. Perhaps that is for the better, though…

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to elicit any reaction from Ariane who keeps sleeping in the midst of all the commotion. At first. You don't get to do or think of anything as a cloud of mist suddenly crashes on the ground near Kishi.

Ariane starts to slowly open her eyes, only to flinch at the noise around her. 'What… What is going on here? Where is that noise coming from?´ she asks you through telepathy, sounding weirded out.

What do you do?

[] Talk with Kishi.
-[] Tell her to turn off the noise.

[] Talk with Evelyn.

[] Talk with Ariane.
-[] Does she remember anything?

Huh, maybe that's what's with her nightmare form...

---[X] It seems like it costs her a lot of grief and that she isn't entirely aware.
[X] Train for a little bit more.
-[X] Try to work on the sword blast more to make it more efficient and refined. Maybe into more of a slash instead of an actual blast?

What time is it, anyway?

Slightly over 6.30 p.m.

Well, this was actually all rather stupid.

I wouldn't be surprised if the noise had absolutely nothing to do with her waking up and she just woke up because she'd killed a Witch/got killed as a ghost. We don't know the mechanism by which the Ghost form cleanses her Gem, so it's at least possible she already cleansed after killing a Witch.

We can hope, anyway, because otherwise our group will soon be dangerously low on Seeds.

@Muramasa, what do you mean by sharpening the magic anyway?

Exactly what I said. Instead of unleashing a blast, you unleash a magic strike thats designed to cut and just cut. You shouldn't need much magic for it. Similar to wind blades but Tamiko would have to use her innate magic instead.

You sigh in relief at seeing Ariane well and awake. For a while you were starting to get seriously worried about her continued health! You cease your erratic movement and smile at the girl apologetically before turning to face Kishi to shout at her, "You can turn off the noise now! S-she woke up!"

She doesn't do anything except turn to look at your direction. You can hear her telepathic voice shout loudly in your head 'W-what did you say? I-I can't hear you!'

Oh right. 'I-I said turn off the noise, Ariane woke up!' you sheepishly send back through the link. Kishi nods in confirmation and turns both the pie and the chainsaw back into dust that shoots into her body. The clearing is silent once more, much to everyone's relief. You gently lay Ariane on the ground next to her Soul Gem and sit down at her side.

She looks curiously back at you and rises to sit herself. "...I think I need an explanation about this," she plainly states at you as de-transformed Kishi and Evelyn run to the two of you. The latter in particular looks very relieved to see Ariane well, and makes it clear quite loudly, "Thank God, you're alright! I… well, you worried me- I mean us very much."

Looks like she is trying to play down her own previous panic at seeing the other girl so unresponsive. While it is probably evil, you can't help but to take to chance at light banter. You smirk mischievously, "B-by which she means that she was in full panic mode a few minutes ago!"

"Hey!" Evelyn yells indignantly back at you, sounding genuinely embarrassed, "I was not! I was just… uh, a bit concerned... like all of us... S-stop smirking at me like that, you're the one that started running around with her like a headless chicken!"

"All for the greater good," you explain calmly, "and it might have even worked! W-well, probably not, but regardless…"

You shake you hear before turning back to the more serious business at hand, "A-Ariane… D-do you remember anything about this?"

"Not much…" she slowly starts, "But I rarely remember my dreams in the first place… I went to sleep and saw my dreams again. I think I noticed the presence of a monster and went to take care of it… Well, I don't think I got to it before waking up back here…"

You nod at the description of events and take the chance to explain how it looked on your side, "When you used your powers, you formed a ghostly version of yourself while your body went to very deep sleep… or coma… Y-you were still breathing, but nothing we did got any reaction from you. Sh-shaking, yelling, chainsaw-grinding… N-nothing worked, and we started to get very worried about you."

Both Kishi and Evelyn stay silent while you pause to think how to put the next part, "A-Ariane... that form ate through a lot of grief, and it seems that you are not entirely aware while in that form. Y-you'll probably need to cleanse after this too."

You bow your head feeling increasingly ashamed the more you talk about it. This was all your idea in the first place. "S-sorry, everyone… F-for asking this and causing all this unnecessary worry."

"Aww, no need to!" Ariane says and pats you on your head, "I do this every night when home! I often get a grief seed out of it too, but sometimes the monsters get me first... Like this time."

"I-it sounds like there is an active w-witch in the city," Kishi suddenly exclaims and quickly rises up from the ground. "I-I'll be going to check myself. A-Ariane wasn't away for very long, so the b-barrier shouldn't be too far away. A-are you coming with me?" she says and looks at all of you.

What do you do?

[] Try to convince Kishi not to go.

[] Well, you were running short on seeds anyways...

[] Stay here and train.
-[] Continue the previous training plan.

[] Get Ariane to join in. Practical experience is important.

[] Tell Ariane to stay here for now.

[] Tell Evelyn to wait here.

[] Talk with your friends.

[] Write-in.

Witches, always arriving at the worst possible time. Difficulty 37, can be sneaky.

So she didn't even reach the Witch, and we did wake her up, or she fought a Witch but lost. I'm inclined to say it's the former.

It's kind of weirdly explained, because in one place she says she didn't make it to the monster:
I think I noticed the presence of a monster and went to take care of it… Well, I don't think I got to it before waking up back here…"

But in another place she says that that this time a monster got her:
I often get a grief seed out of it too, but sometimes the monsters get me first... Like this time."

I'm pretty sure that she didn't actually fight one and it's just badly phrased, though, and what she actually means is just that she didn't get a Seed this time. @DrZiztah, would you mind clarifying?

[X] Well, you were running short on seed anyways...

We need Seeds, and Kishi wants to, and we're certainly not going to let her go alone, so why not?

Hopefully it'll be easy, but sneakiness can be a force multiplier. Still, while it might be more difficult than a 37 really merits, at least we shouldn't have to burn lots of magic getting through armour or similar.

I'd rather not count too much on the difficulty rating, after failing so hard against Lilibeth...
