I feel like there's kind of a core difference between these critiques though. The question of if it's stupid (the gun could have hit the store robber when it went off, the blind fire could have hit someone, they robbers could have overpowered and killed the shop owner) vs if it's morally acceptable. By and far I think delivering a beatdown to someone who just pepper sprayed you and tried to rob you is likely seen well within the boundaries of good behavior; start shit get hit and all that. But then you get to the second level Athene mentioned, which is that these sort of shows often aren't showing the actual story but a fairy tale version while pretending it's real life.I mean, even The Rookie, which has its pilot open with Nathan Filion distracting some bank robbers so the cops can get into position, has him acknowledge how potentially stupid it was.
