Pebbles felt like her head was spinning as she cuddled Chip in her lap. "So they…"
Jessica nodded. "Temptation and Grace are both born from the echoes of Legendary individuals that were incarnated into Essence Golems and reborn within an imaginary space… Then both of them Crafted organic bodies using the information gathered by a galaxy wide conquest of an entire reality."
She envied her husband, as Bamm-Bamm was in the background throwing Roxy up into the sky while she giggled… Though to be fair, it was sort of HER fault for ignoring his advice of 'Trust me, just roll with it' and insisting that she get an explanation. "I see."
She did not, in fact, see.
Jessica chuckled. "Keeping it high level: I adopted John, he saved my life, and we have been wandering home and helping out people along the way. Those two ladies were… Found? Gathered, born… Anyway, they joined along to follow him and we are just stopping by this place on our route."
Huh. "And where is this home?"
The impossible woman shrugged. "Very VERY far off. Not sure how far, but John knows the way."
Pebbles hugged her son, considering all that… "What about his home? The place he came from?"
Jessica winced. "Uh, about that… Don't bring that up. He was trapped somewhere alone for… A very long time. Might have even been created there, he isn't sure… At this point, home is basically somewhere the two of us can take care of each other."
She watched the woman shrug. "Honestly we may stop somewhere along this path, or just leave a mailbox back at my office so I can send in reports now and then. While I loved my job back home, the main point of being an Agent of MiB is to monitor, license, regulate and police extraterrestrial activity on the planet Earth…"
Planet what now?
Jessica gave a wry grin. "We were not really limited by nationality or species or all that back home in the first place, so long as we were able to act as a stabilizing force keeping our world and those that interact with it safe… Finding out that there are so many MORE Earths and similar places that really need help, and that I am able to give that help by assisting my brother along the way?"
Pebbles was sort of following along. "...You can do what you love without having to abandon your adopted family along the way."
She nodded. "Yep! I guess I'm just lucky that being a good older sister just happens to align with my career choice and personal goals."
".....abaababababaABA!" "And back UP!" "BAABAAbaabadadab…."
They both ignored her husband and the sounds of her launched daughter… like usual, she was loving it.
Still it made her heart jump with every toss, but her man was reliable and her daughter basically invulnerable.
That and, if she insisted they stop doing such activities, they might do something even more insane, like that one game of 'boulder toss' that nearly destroyed their home.
Chip used his freed hand to pat her face, bringing her back to the moment with a smile… "All that… All THAT aside, is John doing better now? He seemed VERY under the weather when we first met this morning."
Jessica chuckled. "Last I checked he figured out why he was feeling so off and is now messing with his own System to see if he could learn some neat party tricks."
Party tricks? "What do you mean?"
The woman began counting fingers. "Turning his hair into a disco ball, forming artificial markings for jokes on his skin, adjusting the rate of energy absorption so he can heat or cool off drinks with his touch, turning his vision into flashlights…"
Seeing the concern in Pebbles eyes, she chuckled. "John is fine."
Well… Well good. "Will he be able to handle solid foods? With Bamm-Bamm alone we tend to eat a lot, so I had been planning on just ordering a large amount of Bronto-Burgers and a letting John use our spare room…"
She glanced at the much larger than expected crowd. "...Now that I think about it, it may be a bit cramped for everyone to stay over at this point."
Jessica chuckled. "Don't worry about that, just have a spot for John to sleep and we will be fine. We'll just store our Bodies in…" She coughed. "We'll be fine."
Um. "If you're sure?"
The woman gave a firm nod. "Yep! We're adaptable folks, don't you worry a bit!"
Strong too, considering the attractive black skinned woman had been playing with her Roxy without care or concern about how strong the child was. "Well, if you're sure… Bamm-Bamm, we will be heading home soon… Could you go pick up dinner as I guide them over?"
"...dabbadabBADA!" "Got you, baby girl! And sure honey. You mentioned Bronto-Burgers, right? Did you also want a few Bronto-Dogs and milkshakes?"
Oh she really shouldn't, but today HAD been a bit much… "Just one of each for me, please."
Smiling at his casual nod, she stood with Chip at her hip. "Well, let's start wrangling the little ones on the way home… I don't want to wait too late because Roxy can get a bit cranky when she's sleepy, and hopefully she's tired herself out a little from playing all afternoon for the bus trip."
Jessica chuckled as she stood, stretching. "I'll go grab John and we can be on our way… And thanks again for offering a place to stay for a bit Pebbles, you are a real lifesaver."
Oh you! "It's no problem, and the little ones love you all." An hour or two of free babysitting service might be in the cards too…
Wait, her office couch! "Slightly off topic: Can you tell me a bit about the new furniture I found in my office before coming over here?"
It was probably worth more than the building itself, honestly.
The woman blinked, and then caught on. "Oh, the one John replaced?"
…Interesting. "Yes. That one. Let's talk about that a bit."
~~~Pocket System~~~
John poked one of the melting rocks. "So uh… Don't absorb too little or I turn gray, don't absorb too much or matter deconstructs into powder. And… What causes the melting?"
It had to do with attempting to find a balance or something. Like, shifting the needle between too much and too little on a small enough scale caused this sort of 'turn into a thick liquid' side issue…
But it was finicky as all hell to pull off on purpose. FAR easier to document the glowing effects, THOSE just needed some minor adjustment in the absorption configuration files!
It'd be pretty sweet though. "I'd be able to just tap a wall and have it slush away, or do that cartoon duck thing and
swim through money…"
The fragment of rock half evaporated and half dripped through his fingers.
Staring at the mess in confusion, he sighed. "Eventually. After I nail this 'turn into liquid' effect and uh… Maybe track which bits come from what bobs and how to restore them after I finish messing with it all."
Because there was a difference between 'I can swim through rock' and 'I can evaporate rock', and while both were pretty impressive John had a goal this time he wanted to aim for: A general 'Swim through crap' technique.
Eventually he'd tack on some auxiliary tricks and abilities too, like being able to 'see' or sense through the stuff you swam through and letting people 'breathe' and stuff, since not everyone was as awesome as the Doe family, but for now? The basics.
How to liquify something temporarily.
John stared with focus on another stone fragment. Draw energy in, slower, faster, bounce back and forth over that imaginary fine line… Control the rate and range of oscillation… Now, slowly increase the values…
The stone began to look a bit squishy, that was almost the perfect amount to…
"Hey John!"
*BAM!*
The room filled with stone smoke, broken down to the level where it would vanish entirely without even leaving dust or particulates in a moment or two. Which was good, because otherwise this mess would NOT be good for anyone to breathe.
He just stared at his now empty hand…
Drat. "Yes sis?"
"...Did uh… Did I do that?"
Sigh. "Not really, I still have more than a little work to go on this project and it's a little…" Explody? Evaporatable? Conceptually unstable? "Temperamental. Did you need anything?"
Thankfully the gray cloud cleared up pretty quickly, letting him see his concerned sibling. "Uh yeah, we are all heading over to Pebble's place while Bamm-Bamm picks up a bunch of food for dinner… Wow, this place is wrecked."
Oops. "Don't worry, I got a scan from before I started. I'll fix it." Craft replacements and fix everything, alright?
[[Confirmed.]]
John casually wiped his hand from any remaining powder and began walking out of the… Had those bits over there always been made out of polished marble?
They must have been, right?
…A problem for a later day! "Now, you said something about food, yes? Lead onwards!"
The rest of the floor doesn't match, fix it!
[[The difference in appearance is due to the higher quality Crafting materials used during…]]
Don't care, fix it before sis notices! Just replace it all or something!
[[Confirmed.]]
With a confidant walk and hopefully a competent ability to distract, John pulled his sister back away from the room. "Between you and me, I'm like 99% POSITIVE that I won't go through a psychedelic shock if I eat something now! I made a LOT of progress since you girls came out from Pocket quarantine, let me tell you!"
His sister seemed absent minded. "Did the room just start to glow…"
NOPE! "So what kind of food are we talking about here? I'm hungry enough to eat a horse!" Wait. "A horse-a-saur? A dino-horse?" Oh dear. "Do horses even EXIST here!?"
Don't say neigh!
~~~Pocket System~~~
Roxy blinked as her da handed her back to the Empty woman who made her fly.
She reached out. Hug?
Her da smiled, kissing her forehead. "Now you be good sweetie, daddy's going to get ALL the food and be right back!"
Slightly confused but loving the smile, she smiled back. "That's my girl! Chip, you keep everyone in line, you hear? I'm putting you in charge."
Her brother sucked his fist confidently, still held by mommy who gave da a kiss as he left.
The Bright woman chuckled nearby, gently rubbing Roxy's head as she was held by the Empty woman. "She's just precious… And thankfully both of us are sturdy enough to not worry about her ability to rip rocks in half."
The Empty woman puffed up! "Roxy and me are strong as can be! Aren't we, Roxy?"
Uh. "Yaba?"
She nodded! "Yes we are! Two girls with muscles of steel and bones of stone!"
The Bright woman seemed to want to say something but then BOTH of them paused and turned to… Oh, it's the Glow man! Hi Glow man! "Ba!"
Mamma swept over and began to turn him back and forth using her free hand. "Are you alright? Don't feel a stomach ache or anything sore? No fever?"
Her brother Chip on the other hand was busy still sucking his fist, but that was important too.
UnGlow woman chuckled next to mommy and Glow man. "He's fine, he's fine, just like I told you! Though uh… ask Bamm-Bamm to double check that back room later, alright?"
The Glow man began to flicker colors again, but only those ones that you couldn't see that made Roxy's eyes tingle. "Nope! No reason to check anything! Nothing is wrong back there, and if there ever HAD been anything wrong it was fixed anyway so it doesn't count! All right? All right. NOW, what's this I hear about us and food and stuff?"
Mamma gave him that Look and he slowly slumped. "I might have melted a few things, sorry… I fixed it, so it should be fine now."
Roxy wanted to give him a pat, because she got the Look once when she broke the sitting thing too hard with the wall stuff and it was an ACCIDENT but it still sort of got broken and stuff…
Chip was lucky enough to be bounced by Momma's hip as she chuckled. "If you 'fixed' it the same way you replaced my couch I might have to PAY you for any future mistakes! In fact, I might have a few commissions I'd like to request from you later on… Now, come along. We need to wrangle these ones onto the bus and get home before my Husband wanders in carrying thousands of pounds of food."
Oh! They were going to ride the bus dino!? Eee! They were going to ride the bus dino! Chip! Chip, we're going to…
Don't start to sleep NOW, adventure is coming! Chip! "Ba!"
