Path of the Immeasurable Swarm [Worm/Cradle]

I thought it was a multiverse with multiple fics in it which aren't all complete? For this fic do I need to have read cradle though?

Technically speaking, all but one of Will Wight's series are complete at this time, or are at least at a comfortable stopping point, and the single incomplete one is his current project.

But yes like people have said, you don't need to have read Cradle for this fic to be understandable and entertaining, though if you have questions after you've caught up, write them down on the side and ask them all at once when you've caught up.

So weird question but does cultivation in this series usually make people more attractive? Cause while Taylors not ugly or anything the ai arts very different than how I imagine her.

Yes. Less so than some cultivation series, but young Underlords and above are usually described as quite attractive, and the advancement itself is described thusly in book six:

Lindon and Mercy ran into view, and both of them had obviously changed. Mercy looked an inch taller, her hair longer, her eyes brighter. She moved with an unfamiliar speed and grace, though maybe she would pitch onto her face in a moment and spoil that impression. Her armor was broken, the inner robe pierced on the left and right sides of her ribs, but unharmed skin showed underneath.

She had advanced. Probably to Underlord, given what Yerin had sensed earlier, unless Lindon had somehow managed to advance twice. How had she gone from Highgold to Underlord? With her spirit as weakened as it was, Yerin's spiritual perception was too weak to figure it out.

Yerin felt a spark of jealousy, but there was no point in thinking about it too hard. It had never made sense that Mercy was so weak to begin with, so this was the restoration of the natural order.

But Lindon looked like an entirely different person.

His right arm looked like a human's arm now, only chalk-white, and she was surprised at how much better it suited him than the monster limb. His Skysworn armor was cracked all over the place, but he carried it lightly. It was the smallest details that showed the largest change.

First, the soulfire transformation left him looking healthier than ever. His skin was clearer, his chin more defined, and he seemed to stand straighter. He looked like he had aged five years, but in the best possible way. He looked less like a sect leader's evil son, and more like…well, a sect leader.

Yerin rose to her feet, washed in soulfire, and Lindon stared at her. Just stared.

She had been remade.

Her Goldsigns now looked absolutely real, as though actual steel blades grew on metal arms from her shoulders. Her green armor was pitted and cracked, but her scars had been wiped away, leaving her skin clean.

It was in the little touches that she had really changed. That, or the loss of her scars had changed her appearance more than he'd thought. Her eyes seemed deeper, looking from within the veil of her hair, and she looked more mature. She hadn't grown any—her head still only reached up to about his shoulders—but that made him feel too tall.

It might be something a bit like a general "airbrushing" of their look, but there's I think a grand total of one young Underlord who is not described in glowing terms, and he feels like he's out of place. Lindon's is one of only two advancements to Iron that we see on screen (most other characters reach this one very young), and I think the only one that talks about his before and after appearance much. I think it's more scattered around than the Underlord changes, but it made him look a lot taller and more muscular, burning off a lot of baby fat as it does so.

I hope Taylor gets something from her old shard stuff that makes her more unique especially when she ascends. Maybe combine with the shard wherever it is and implementing it into herself. Especially as it'd make her better than most monarchs like the mc seems to be from their wiki.

Ascension to herald also allows you to completely remake yourself, Yerin chose not to change herself beyond adding a little red to symbolise Ruby.

allows you to completely remake yourself,

It forces you to be remade. Some changes can be stopped, some channeled to your design. Some are forced.

Madra soaked into Yerin's channels, her spirit, and stained the bright silver a vivid crimson.

Her body tore itself apart, but there was no pain. She dissolved into silver-red light…and she felt a chance.

She had to Forge herself back together.

But her old body wasn't quite…right. It didn't represent who she was anymore. She had some choices to make.

She hadn't liked bright red hair, but it had become part of her. Maybe one lock. Her eyes…she didn't really want eyes so similar to Fury's. Then again, when she tried to change them to Yerin's black, she found it easier to keep them as Ruby's red.

She didn't mind what color her eyes were anyway.

She could make more dramatic changes to her body, but she didn't need them. She liked the way she looked. It was her, and now there were enough changes to represent the new her.

One change, though, she didn't have any control over.

When her body returned, condensing into reality, she extended all six of her Goldsigns. They still had a metallic gleam, but now they were a bright, vivid scarlet.

There's basically two different ways Bloodlines seem to appear in Cradle, Mutation and Authority.
A bit late but did some research on bloodlines after I read your post. There is also a third way - inheritance from sacred beasts - or other manner of acquisition. It's mentioned offhandedly in an interview by Will that the Arelius bloodline came from a sacred beast.

And Ozmanthus already had it from his father - his ascension only made it stronger.

Jan. 1, 2021,

Also, you can apparently only have one bloodline. More than that causes them to blend or the stronger one to overwrite the weaker one.

Also on inheritance of bloodlines - apparently if you inherit a bloodline and the one who gave it to you ascends further, then the bloodline can become stronger. It's a conceptual/authority thing though so it likely only effects heralds/sages/monarchs.

So do you guys think the original mc is screwed due to butterflies or at least unlikely to ascend?
He might not ascend as an uber-dreadgod who takes the entire labyrinth with him in a pocket space, but he's still extremely likely to become a monarch and ascend under his own power within ~4 years of beginning to practice the Sacred Arts in earnest.

If your not an uber dreadgod whats the fucking point? :p
Why the point is to advance of course. :cool2:

More seriously Lindon's original goal was to save the people of sacred valley. He's done that now. But between Eithan's pushing them, and the Monarch's fuckery that's bound to come to light, and the impending war between the Monarchs that want to play king of the Hill, and the Monarch's who want what's best for Cradle scheming in the background and the impending look at peaks people can reach after they ascend?

Advance. Advance to force change, advance to survive, advance to stay with and join true friends and mentors. The real question is just how things will play out.

him ending up an uber dreadgod is unlikely due to taylor though right?

Lindon becoming uber Dreadgod is still on the table. Two things need to happen:

First, he breaks his left arm again. Author can do this in a million ways.
He finds/meets the Slumbering Wraith before he fixes the arm. Again, there are a lot of ways for the author to make our heroes descend into the labyrinth.

Note that if/when the second condition happens, it could also open up the possibility of Lindon becoming the Labyrinth's master, as he still possesses all the traits that let the Labyrinth submit to him.

The Slumbering Wraith is the most potent source of pure hunger madra in existence, and Lindon is a loot goblin. It doesn't matter if Lindon's arm is broken or not, leave him unattended in the same room as the Slumbering Wraith's corpse for even half a second and he will replace his arm.

Might even if the Wraith is still alive.

"Apologies".
