She sees you when you're sleeping, she knows when you're awake. She knows if you've been bad or good so be good for Mercy's sake! The sage who must not be named because oh god what if she hears us?!

I'd be pretty neat if she got a reputation as something like Hastur the Unspeakable, being known as Taylor the Unspeakable because any time you mention her name something skitters out of the darkness and stares at you 'cause she heard you were talking shit about her...The sage who must not be named because oh god what if she hears us?!
"She is not here today," said the Shadow Sage."Mercy!" gasped out the Bloody-Handed. "We'll… serve you! Anything… you want! But please… mercy!"
I mean, people in Cradle with enough Advancement and Authority can actually sense when people use their name's, so you're not far off. It's why most Monarchs are reffered to with epithets. The sage who must not be named because oh god what if she hears us?!
I know, but the idea that Taylor gets singled out as the one you absolutely do not name ever makes it extra hilariousI mean, people in Cradle with enough Advancement and Authority can actually sense when people use their name's, so you're not far off. Always nice to occassionally see the actual scale of powers being played around with compared to the vast majority of people in existence.
That is one scary power. I wonder if it works like as a sort of filter. Like Imp's power. Or can she to some level tell what people are thinking and mess with that deliberatly. The only thing i found a bit strange is for Taylor to have messed with his head so much but then again, it looked like she only hid what she was so that he was free to act as he would have in any one elses presence.
Isn't that one of those things inherent to the genre? xDyou are the reason that technique names become incomprehensibly long
Yeah pretty much everything is original.
As for names. I think often they have multiple names. Yerin's master I think was sometimes referred to as the Sword Sage and sometimes as the Sage of the Endless Sword. The first one is short and just refers to his icon but he will definitely not be only Sage with the Sword Icon in recent history hence the long name. The Winter Sage his fiance had a connection to both the Sword Icon as well as Winter/Ice. I think her long name is the Sage of the Frozen Blade but that might just be the name of the sect she founded. Although chances are they are the same name.
The sage who must not be named because oh god what if she hears us?!
Whoops. Thanks.Just so you know, the last chapter is threadmarked as 'Inturlude 5', and I believe it is meant to be 'Interlude 5'.
On the other hand...The sage who must not be named because oh god what if she hears us?!
Generally speaking you do your best to write something either intentionally humorous or as close to the tone of the story as you can manage. Preface by saying it's an omake and then post it in the thread if the author likes it it might get thread marked as such. I'm sure some writers object to the practice but I've yet to encounter that particular rarity. This chapter is amazing for showing just how large a place Cradle generally and Akura lands in particular are.
It also made me realised something - these several weeks of travel are a goldmine for Omake writing! And not the crack/crazy AU type. Self contained stories with original places and characters that do not contradict or change the established lore or ongoing story. It's perfect! Maybe with the author taking a break it's time for the community to step up?
Does anyone know how to you write an Omake? Do you need the author's permission? Do you send it to them? Or somehow add it to the thread yourself?
Holy shit, my very first omake! On the other hand...
Even hours after her, admittedly minor, victory, Mercy was still cheering internally. She'd managed to convince Lindon and Yerin to take a short break in their training and have a date night. Eithan had, predictably, popped up immediately after the two had admitted defeat and ushered Lindon off to prepare him, leaving Yerin in Mercy's care. And so, here she was, trying to decide which outfit would be the best choice for their night out.
"Taylor?" She asked the room that was apparently empty of everyone other than herself and Yerin. At her word, an unseen speck of darkness atop a dresser swelled into the form of a hand-sized jumping spider, head tilted to the side interrogatively. Despite the fact that it was entirely black, some details could still be seen; its eyes more glossy compared to the matteness of the rest of its body prime among them.
"What do you think Yerin should wear for her date tonight?" Mercy asked Taylor's minion. She had quickly gotten used to her friend using the constructs in much the same way her Aunt Charity used her owls, though their friends were slower to adjust. It was probably due to her experience with Aunt Charity's owls that let her adapt so quickly.
Taylor turned the eyes of her spider construct across the various outer robes in consideration, before leaping to one in particular. "Eithan says this one will match Lindon the best," said Taylor through the construct, before waving a forelimb at Yerin.
"I hope you enjoy yourself," she said, before the spider began skittering towards to door, shrinking as it went, until it was small enough to fit under the door as it left.
The previous poster just beat you to the punch lol. This chapter is amazing for showing just how large a place Cradle generally and Akura lands in particular are.

Seems kind of hypocritical for fanfic authors to object to people writing fanfics of their work tbh.Generally speaking you do your best to write something either intentionally humorous or as close to the tone of the story as you can manage. I've always been pleased to see one in one of my story threads but there's always bound to be someone who gets offended when no offense is intended.Seems kind of hypocritical for fanfic authors to object to people writing fanfics of their work tbh.

I have seen it a time or two as well. The worst are when they are writing fanfic for a series where the Author has stated they don't like fanfic. Game of Thrones I think is probably the most common one although that was a while ago so I don't know if George RR Martin changed his mind.It really is, and I have sadly seen it a time or two over the years. Even came across a few sites that supported the viewpoint. Always fun to see a "Don't use my OC without permission" on a fanfiction site where none of the stories are written with the permission of the source author.
"Yes," agreed Malice, "With more soon to follow." She tapped her lips with a finger. "We'll need to have a celebration. I trust you can arrange something appropriate?"
"Of course," agreed Charity. She hesitated for a moment, clearly understand that she was being dismissed, then turned back to me. "I'll see you soon, Taylor. This is a time of great change for the clan. There's plenty of work to be done." She smiled briefly. "Unlike my father, I'm expecting you to pull your weight."
She might have attended. Sages can make portals although I don't know if she has learnt that yet. Charity could certainly transport her. Harmony's stooges came up in the training arc for the tournament. That life artist from the Seishen Kindom that I can't remember the name of basically beat them in a 2 on 1 and took a chunk off their life expectancy unless they advanced to overlord. So I wonder if the celebration happened off-screen or if it's still being prepared as Taylor is going around doing spring cleaning. I was kind of picturing Taylor having to deal with similar to what Mercy dealt with when she broke through to Underlord early, which sounded kind of funny ngl…
Thinking of back then, wonder what happened to Harmony's stooges lol. They're probably not having the best time right now.
I wouldn't personally write an omake or even complain about it in those circumstances but I wouldn't object to others doing it either. It just seems a bit hypocritical.Saphroneth doesn't like omakes, but has admitted to not having a reason aside from a knee-jerk aversion to them. They don't forbid them, just request that they are put in a spoiler.
I feel like there's no reason not to respect an author's wishes, even if we don't agree with them. I like making omakes, but if someone doesn't want me getting my grubby hands on their interpretation of a story, then that's fine. It's not a hill I'm willing to die on.
Hasn't stopped GRRM.Seems kind of hypocritical for fanfic authors to object to people writing fanfics of their work tbh.
Ok, this I gotta hear. What pieces of fanfiction has GRRM produced? Genuinely curious here, because as far as I am aware he produces original fiction.
I think what they were saying is GRRM gets upset over ASoIaF fanfiction.Ok, this I gotta hear. What pieces of fanfiction has GRRM produced? Genuinely curious here, because as far as I am aware he produces original fiction.
That isn't what they are saying though? Thread OP makes a comment about how they feel it's somewhat hypocritical for fanfic authors to complain about other writers making fanfic of their fanfic, or posting omakes in the thread, as is more common on this site. The person I responded to responds to that comment by saying:I think what they were saying is GRRM gets upset over ASoIaF fanfiction.
Thereby implying that GRRM has been writing fanfic despite complaining about it. I might just be missing something here, for all I know GRRM has a sprawling library of fanfiction that he has written, so hey, he might just be a massive hypocrite in that regard, which is why I asked about it.
He talks about writing superhero stuff inspired by Marvel/DC (well technically their predecessors) even while ranting against people using his stuff.Ok, this I gotta hear. What pieces of fanfiction has GRRM produced? Genuinely curious here, because as far as I am aware he produces original fiction.
