Operation Weihnachtswunder (A CK2 Style Quest to Save Christmas!)

are all the weapons going to be similarly christmasy? like a turkey bazooka?
Any weapon developed in the Workshop will most likely be Christmas-themed at first. Though once you get a Master of Arms (or a Martial Adviser), you can acquire other Mythological Weapons, or even Mundane Weapons! Or, you can make Stewardship Actions to make trades, though you'd need to make some diplomatic ventures first for that.
so, who in charge of spring/summer do we need to speak to to get our hands on a live fish launcher( pneumatic salmon cannon) ?

(0 clue what practical situation one of those bad boys will ever be needed in but it'd be fun for sure, and can think of some niche use cases lol)
(Would also approve of some weaponised fur trees to 1000 needle foes with, or maybe something pulled from terraria's frost moon event? though those may need to be toned down for balance purposes)

Interlude: The Story So Far...
The Story So Far...

Santa was dead, to begin with

There is no doubt whatsoever about that. The notice of his demise was signed by his own hand. Jack Frost confirmed it, and Frost's word was good enough for you. Old Saint-Nick was as dead as a door-nail.

However, Santa did not fall to his enemies, the powerful Jeff Bezos or the underhanded traitor Blake Midwinter. They would have rathered to have him alive, all things considered. A battery to syphon Christmas from, before profiting from it every way they possibly could. While slapping his face on it, as if he would have approved of the commercialization.

No, he instead fell of his own choice. The price he would willingly pay to activate Operation Weihnachtswunder. Midwinter and Bezos thought they could be slick by waiting for the 26th to officially take over. It would mean Santa would have been denied the day in which he was strongest, and ensured the Ghosts of Christmas would not notice until it was too late.

But they had forgotten he could see you when you're sleeping, awake, or planning the downfall of Christmas. And that Jack Frost - Santa's Hidden Blade - managed to find out enough to bring his concerns to Santa. Thus, an absolute tragedy was mitigated, and the light of Christmas was not snuffed out completely. But damage had been done. Realizing the jig was up, Amazon launched their attack, while Midwinter and the Financial Department rose up in rebellion. Elves were shackled, the Snowmen were melted, and the Financial Department chained many mythological beings with red tape, paperwork, and obligations.

But the biggest blow came when Rudolph, the Light of the Nine and their most famous member, had thrown in with Midwinter. He betrayed the others, and had been planning on doing so for years. He sold them to Amazon on the 24th, in exchange for his very lucrative thirty pieces and a place on the Board. While Blitzen was able to outspeed his obligations, and Vixen outmuscled hers by rage alone, the rest could not escape.

But Santa still had some Naughtiness in him. He destroyed and sabotaged many important elements, threw many of the important items across the world, ensured his wife escaped, left important messages to various people, and even delivered the presents to the boys and girls of the world without the Sleigh or the Reindeer.

But his most important task was to make things ready for the new Santa. Blitzen would carry the Sleigh (and by happy coincidence, an injured Jack Frost) to the new successor, along with a very important item: The Workshop Seed. The most important part of Weihnachtswunder. From the smallest seed, would spring a new Workshop. And with the new Santa and Workshop, a new light of Christmas would shine

And with that, Nicholas left the mortal coil. His part of Operation Weihnachtswunder is done. Now, it is your turn to complete it.

You are Ebenezer Scrooge. Yes, the very one and same from the beloved Christmas classic that Dickens penned in 1843. You were and are indeed a real person who was visited by your former business partner Jacob Marley, then the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet To Come.

And you are very glad for it! Before, you were a miser with a lump of coal in your heart, who thought the poor were a waste on resources, and Christmas a waste of valuable time. But the Ghosts showed you what it meant to understand and appreciate the most wonderful time of the year. And with that, your fate changed. In ways you hadn't even expected.

It is now December 26th, 2024. Scrooge And Marley's is still running in London. But it is a toy store now. From there, you spread the Christmas Spirit year round to the local boys and girls. You are not concerned with profits and money making. You are more concerned that a kid can be a kid, and that the poor are not forgotten. As you have been since 1843.

Why yes, you've been alive for a long time. Longer than most mortals. A strange conflux of fate and The Unseen World has made it so that you are still alive, even in the twenty-first century. You still converse with the Ghosts of Christmas, as well as Jacob Marley. He lost his chains, thanks to help from both you and the Ghost, and is now a free Spirit. He still follows you around though, of which you are glad. In your spare time, you help the spirits who reside in London as best you can, easing their pains and helping those they can't.

And now, you have been entrusted with the mantle of Santa Claus, and the task of saving the spirit of Christmas from the greed of Amazon, the scheming of Blake Midwinter, and from those who might attempt to take advantage of the situation. It's a large task. Some say it's an impossible task. That you'd need a miracle to pull this off.

But once upon a time, Christmas saved you.

Now you plan to repay the favor

QM's Notes: So, this was originally going to be a preview. Then part of the start of Turn 0. Then it became it's own thing. So I'm keeping this in as it's own post, and placing a link in the Front Header to this post. Going to try and get Turn 0 soon.

This is going to be so much fun.

Love this line. Excited to get going!

Thanks!

You know, I'm a bit surprised that the Grinch wasn't an option. I wonder if he's around somewhere, and willing to put his heisting skills to work once more.

Won't lie, I had totally forgotten the Grinch. Though probably because I had already chosen Scrooge and Judas as the repentant options. But I'm willing to roll for him. One sec...

Edit: Result - He Lives On In His Story. No idea where he is though.

...there's a sequel? Well, time to go find out about this. Where did he lose Christmas?
It's a ghostwritten sequel authorized by whatever estate owns the rights and released least year. It's... fine I guess. It has a Doctor Seuss like art style, it rhymes all the time and the story is a simple one about how Christmas is about joy and cheer, not winning. You can find several let's reads on Youtube if you want.

Or you could just buy it on Amazon, they sell everything Christmas related for some reason :V

Huh. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Also, before I forget. I am making an emergency change to two of the three Ghosts of Christmas, as I want to bring them a little more in line with how they are in the story. Basically, their Christmas Bonus will be important instead of any. Also, croissants are now 2% tastier.

So, looks like I'm not getting Turn 0 done tonight, though I do have the options ready. Still need to make an expenditure section as well.

Did get Wesley into the Hero Page, and completed his fluff.

I'll work on everything more tomorrow. Good night!

Also hopefully this isn't the movie canon where Whoville and the Grinch all exist in a single dust speck/snowflake.

I need to rewatch both movies, because I do not remember that. But it's been a while, so I probably forgot about that. But no, the Grinch does not exist in a single snowflake. I don't even know how that would work. "Roll to find the single snowflake where Whoville is, DC: 350"? "Natural 1. Whoops, you found it. Right below the heel of your boots."

Edit: Wait, there was a crossover?

Here's an in-theme song for while we wait for the update:

(If I had been here for the beginning of the quest, and the civilian option won, I might have argued for Danny Gonzales. I've never even seen anything from him other than We Are Not The Same Person and this, but the drawback of 'has previously planned to kill Santa' sounds funny)

I now have the image that at the first group meeting at the first turn that Jack Frost will have a rebreather system like Darth Vader along with a tank, but instead of oxygen it's a tank of liquid nitrogen. Or liquid oxygen.

...shit, I should have thought of that. Good news is, we are technically on turn zero instead of one, so I can still steal that... I mean think of that and put it in. Yeah. Totally.

Turn 0 - Twelve Nights 2024/5 - Planning Phase
Turn 0 (Twelve Nights 2024/5)

"Tell me, good Spirits. How close are we to the edge?"

It is the Ghost of Christmas Future that acts first, looking off to the side. But you know him better than most. He's not looking away. He is looking towards. More specifically, towards the next Christmas.

You and the other Ghosts wait with baited breath, while the robed specter examines your possible future on Christmas. You must stress, it is a possible future. If it was static and unchanging, then there would never have been a hope of your redemption. But it still helps to know what could come up, if nothing changes.

Finally, he turns back towards you. "..."

And with that, you sigh a breath of relief, like a man who's been told by his doctor he will live another year. At the very least, it seems you will manage to start the delivery of Christmas. With Blitzen carrying the Sleigh and Wesley seated at your side, you can get a small amount of the world's children their presents. Not ideal, but a start.

You are Ebenezer Scrooge. The second to hold the mantle of Santa Claus. And the last twenty-four hours have been the most chaotic you've ever experienced.

It started when Blitzen, a delightful Reindeer whom you had given lessons about finance and contracts via letters throughout the year, parked the very Sleigh of Santa in the shop's loading dock with an injured passenger, a contract, and a letter from Nicholas.

Soon, after accepting the position, the three Ghosts of Christmas had come to you. But not as friends, though they will always remain that way. They came as employees, and you as their boss. Which made sense with what you know. On one of their visits, they had told you how they operated and who they served. Which was now you.

Once more, you find yourself thankful they are here. You need guidance, and they are the most qualified. Not to mention the others have their own issues.

Blitzen claims he is fine, but you can see it in the way he acts. He's always looking over his shoulder, like Ol' Scratch himself was after him. And any red light sets him off. Or anything involving Rudolph. He became violent the moment he saw a plush of his former friend, requiring you and Jack to talk him down from his mania before he destroyed the entire aisle.

And speaking of Santa's former spymaster and hidden blade against the enemies of Christmas, he had overtaxed his control over the cold to keep himself alive. You had needed to clear out the freezer of frozen treats so he could have a temporary place to recover. Fortunately, the new Workshop came with a series of walk-in freezers. Useful for freezing perishables and allowing Jack to recover much faster. Already he is thinking of designs for weaving a web of informants crossing London.

As for Wesley, your new Maid, he had just gained physical form, and was still getting used to the Workshop. As much as he wanted to be by your side, It would not be fair to burden him with this. At least until he had some time to adjust. But he was happy to entertain Ignorance and Want for the time being. Turns out, he liked Football like many good Englishmen, and knew how to kick the ball around.

Meanwhile Jacob Marley was busy getting the new employees situated. Many of them were once like him, spirits chained in death by the actions of their lives. It was an irony for many spirits, they wanted to help more in death than in life, but they were no longer able to. However, the Spirit Solidifer had allowed them to interact with the Seen World once more, provided they were in the Workshop. They almost ran your poor friend over scrambling to the crafting tables, their excitement in being useful once more overwhelming their sense of decorum.

"Ha! I knew you had it in you!" The Ghost of Christmas Present says, the big burly bearded man drinking a mug of mead. It is unusual for the Present to be around outside of Christmas proper, but you need him now more than ever. Already he is preparing a feast for everyone of the choicest meats. "These are indeed good tidings!"

"However, that does not mean you should rest on your laurels." The Ghost of Christmas Past says, her form shifting and his flame flickering. "We must prepare ourselves accordingly, so this vision can come to pass."

They're right, of course. "Then, we shouldn't dally. We have a lot of fires, and few hands to put them out. What should we focus on first?"
