[X] Great Hyrule Forest AKA The Lost Woods

You only spend a day resting at the manor, a sense of urgency spurring you all on as you spend the next day quickly preparing so you can leave the following morning. You barely keep track of where everyone is as you double and triple-check all the supplies, making sure you have enough food for the long expedition.

You do however catch sight of Paya talking with Impa, wearing the outfit you presume Impa had bought for her. In many ways, it resembled Zelda's with a black hooded cloak and mask that hid many of her features, though this one seemed more like a piece of armour then Zelda's enchanted mask, covering Paya's cheeks as well as the upper part of her face and stylized to look like a bird while conveniently obscuring her eyes and forehead. You could also see what looked like a dark turban or cap underneath it. She had a cuirass similar to the one Brokka wore, though lacking any shoulder protection. Underneath that Paya was wearing a thick blue coat, the sleeves tied down with leather armguard with her hands covered by fingerless gloves. A long red bit of cloth had been tied around her waist, its end hanging loosely at her side. Her coat extended past to cover everything up to her knees and you noted the odd pattern in the fabric, suggesting that some type of reinforcement was in this part of the garment to provide some thigh-protection. Other than that she wore the simple white leggings you'd seen her regularly wear in the village and nearly knee-high leather boots like the ones you had.

You had to give it to Impa, while you could see the Sheikah influence Impa's choices with the armour gave the impression of a more standard Hylian mercenary. Paya certainly didn't look comfortable with that amount of armour on but from Impa's expression, you had the rather deep impression Paya's aunt was making very sure that Paya was properly protected if your group had to venture into another monster-filled deathtrap.

As you left the next day, made your way to the station you had visited before and piled onto a train car you couldn't help but note that your group resembled a mercenary band save two exceptions, though Midna kept herself from view from everyone but your tiny group. You doubted however that Irene would wear the hooded robes you'd read Mages typically wore. No one so far had raised much of a fuss about it, however. Considering that Maple was already ancient when she had joined the Sages a young girl in a black dress probably only raised eyebrows at her flying broom rather than her pointy hat.

The plan, as Zelda had explained it, was to hit two birds with one stone. The closest stop with the spirit tracks was the town of Rauru, the last known location of the Sage of Spirits Seres and her father, Sahasrahla. Seres from Mobius's information was living a quiet life having devoted her life to the gods, assisting the local priest and tending to the Sanctuary Church located in Rauru. She hadn't appeared to have much trouble, other than apparently a large number of soldiers from the local garrison regularly attending service in an attempt to speak to her, though Seres seemed to ignore them. Zelda, on the other hand, believed it was only a matter of time before an attempt was made on Seres's life and the best option was to get her and her father out of the village and safely to Kakariko through the closest Sheikah Gate. Even if you all had to fight your way out it wouldn't matter as no one sane would dare follow you all into the Great Hyrule Forest, known by locals as the lost woods from the cursed fog that seemed to cover it that led all who entered the woods astray.

From what Navi had told you, Zelda theorized that there must be Sheikah ruins somewhere inside. They could even be the cause of the fog to protect whatever this superweapon was. She seemed rather excited by it as she explained her theory, assuming it must be some grand weapon of Sheikah origin, perhaps even a massive war machine.

You weren't so sure. The night you had all decided to make your way to the Great Hyrule Forest you'd been plagued by restless sleep, awakening to find your arm outstretched as if to grasp something. Whenever you had a moment to yourself since then you found yourself in a wistful mood, eyes always wandering to your hand as though to find something... missing from it. You kept this from the others, unsure of what to make of it. Navi had spoken of an old friend in the Great Hyrule Forest alongside her warning to bring as many allies as you could muster, perhaps they were guiding you?

Besides Zelda though there was another of your party who seemed quite excited at what lay ahead of you.

"D-Do you t-think Miss. Seres remembers h-how her magic worked?" Paya asked suddenly, looking up from where she had taken a seat on the wagon.

"Of course! Seres is amazing! She was the same age as Impa when she became a Sage you know!" Zelda helpfully chimed in, positively bouncing in her seat, "Why there was no one who could command spirits quite like her, it's no wonder she wound up working at the Sanctuary and its many tombs. If it wasn't for how dire things have become I'd bet Rupees on her being able to trounce any monsters that showed up singlehandedly!"

Paya simply bowed her head, wringing her hands nervously as she quietly asked, "D-do you t-think she w-would be w-willing to t-teach?"

"O-oh," Was Zelda's only response as her eyes widened in realization, "Oh Paya..."

An awkward silence followed as Zelda shifted to sit beside Paya as your dog, sensing that something was amiss, set his head onto Paya's lap with a small whine.

Unsure of any reassurance to give Paya you instead spent the rest of the trip recalling what Zelda had told you of what she personally knew of Seres and her father. She was indeed the youngest of the Sages, with only the then-teenage Urbosa close to her in age. Zelda described her as being rather carefree in personality, polite and kind, never one to raise a fuss. Zelda's mother had been incredibly close to both of the younger members, being something of a mentor to the young Seres as the Sheikah were adept at magic concerning spirits. Seres had lost her mother at a young age and while Zelda never raised the possibility from the sound of it Seres may have viewed Zelda's mother as almost an adoptive parent. It certainly would have explained her reaction to the Queen's passing, having taken it particularly hard and turning to religion to help ease her grief.

It was convenient that the famous Sanctuary was located at the town her father had retired too. Already an older gentleman when Seres was born Sahasrahla was likely an old man now and in the care of his daughter. Sahasrahla was a former advisor to the King of Hyrule, though had retired a few years before Zelda was born for reasons she wasn't quite sure of. He was known to be incredibly knowledgable on the histories of Hyrule, perhaps the most knowledgable in all the land. She had communicated with him mostly through writing at the encouragement of her mother and Purah, though had lost touch after her mother's death.

You weren't sure how either of them would react to the supposedly dead Princess showing up on their doorstep, telling them they should pack their things to leave town by nightfall. At least from the sound of things they weren't in immediate danger, even with one of the largest garrisons of Imperial troops just a short hop away.

Then again, Maple didn't seem like she was in immediate danger...

"That is considerably more soldiers then I thought there'd be," Zelda tonelessly stated as she slumped against the tree, hand planted firmly against her forehead.

You had reached Rauru just past noon, and quickly made your way to the Sanctuary where Zelda had taken a quick peek through the front door. Rauru was a fairly quiet town, wattle and daub buildings lining cobblestone streets with stores, inns and markets nearly every step. For a town that was on the edge of the wilderness and so close to the looming Death Mountain a lot of trade seemed to pass through it. The Sanctuary was not a large building, while stone and clearly of religious importance with large stained glass windows it was very different to the temple of time that were it not for the large windows you'd have assumed it was a simple home. A large graveyard seemed to surround it alongside many cherry trees that seemed to stretch into the foothills surrounding the church where you presume the older tombs were.

Your group had parked themselves beside one of these cherry trees as you discussed this new obstacle.

"I mean the notes said attendance had picked up considerably amongst the soldiers but to fill the Sanctuary?!" An exasperated Zelda stated, waving her arm towards the church in frustration.

"It's not that big of a deal, we just need to talk to her alone without Seres recognizing us while we walk up to her," You point out.

"Well, that rules me out then," Mipha points out, shifting her trident so it rested against her other shoulder, "I might be able to fool even my own people on the road but there's no way anyone who spent any time in the Zora court wouldn't recognize me, even if I'm no longer a child."

Irene raised a hand next, "Yeah, I'm gonna have to sit this one out too. Seres would recognize a proper witch anywhere if she spent any time with my Grandma. Same with Paya over there with the uh, white hair."

Paya nodded awkwardly, having looked increasingly nervous as you had drawn closer to the Sanctuary.

"I say we just kidnap them in the night. If they're as close to you as you all claim I'm sure they'd be still willing to divulge this information you're after even if they've been tied up," Your shadow whispered in your ear.

"Alright, that just leaves me and Zelda then, as long as Zelda keeps her mask on," You say, looking over to the Princess who gave you a quick nod before climbing to her feet, brushing off dust and tree bark, "You'd best head into town so none of the soldiers get suspicious why Seres is leaving with several heavily armed strangers."

The others nod and begin making their way into town as you and Zelda start heading towards the thick wooden doors of the Sanctuary.

Before you both enter the church Zelda lets out a long sigh, rubbing her arm nervously, "Agh, I'd change into a dress if Seres wasn't going to immediately recognize my face, we seem so out of place..."

"Can't be that strange for mercenaries wanting to pray before heading off to the frontier," You try and reassure the Princess, reaching out to pull open the door, "We'll be fine, just act natural."

Zelda chuckles to herself, "Heh, and here I'd thought you'd be nervous stepping into one the oldest places of worship for the-" Zelda freezes, only just now realizing how you'd stopped reaching towards the door and left your hand hanging there, "O-oh... you didn't..... I just made this really awkward didn't I?"

"Incredibly," You tonelessly reply as you pull open the door and the two of you step into the Sanctuary. It was rather barren all things considered, a square room with a path down the middle and pews on either side. On the far end was a raised platform, two doors that lead into the back of the church and an alter that looked as old as the surrounding graves pushed up against the far wall. The pews were occupied almost entirely by uniformed soldiers, all young men save for a few older villagers who seemed to be shooting the men disgruntled looks. Others seemed to be milling about, a few speaking to an old man who very clearly was the local priest. The rest seemed to have lined up at a table to the side of the room that seemed to be positively straining under the number of cups and pastries that were stacked on top of it. None of the men seemed particularly interested in any of the food stacked high on it though, despite the mouth-watering scent of freshly baked sweets coming from it, even if they all seemed to be quickly hurried away from it with a steaming cup in one hand, a pastry in the other and a look of utter frustration on their face as their attempt to hold a conversation with the person standing near the table with a tea kettle in hand failed miserably.

This person was a young woman of a slim frame with bright green hair and eyes, her hair cut into a short bob that framed a kind face that never seemed to show a trace of a frown. A white cap sat upon her head, with five golden disks sewn in at the front. She wore a sleeveless blue dress that reached to the ground, tied at the waist by a blue sash. Covering her bare arms was a blue cape with a gold trim that reached down to her ankles, clasped at the front with a gold broach with two inset light-blue gems and the symbol of the royal family etched into its surface. To complete the ensemble she wore a plain gold bracelet around each of her wrists though you suspected they were more for religious reasons then for fashion as despite the high-quality of the girl's ensemble she wore no make-up or any other jewellery then what seemed to have been a part of this outfit. The style reminded you strongly of a dress you had seen Zelda wear and you wondered how much coded religious symbolism you missed in your daily life, something you probably should get better at considering everything.
With no desire to aggravate the soldiers you both step into line, Zelda taking some deep breaths beside you as she seemed to physically stop herself from rushing forward and embracing Seres. As the line progressed forward you listened in for a moment to the conversation around you, before very pointedly doing your best to ignore it when it became none of the soldiers were here for religious reasons.

When you finally reached Seres she greeted both of you with a warm smile as she filled two cups, "Good afternoon sirs, welcome to the Sanctuary. It is always so pleasant to see new faces join our congregation. Did you enjoy the service?"

"Uuuuh-" Was all Zelda could manage, which prompted Seres's face to turn beet red as she clapped a hand to her mouth in horror.

"Oh! Oh, I am so sorry ma'am, I didn't mean-" Seres began as she set down the tea kettle, but you cut her apology off with a raised hand.

"It's alright, actually we're here to join the church in service of the gods. We've uh... decided to put our swords down to fulfill a greater purpose," You lie, wincing at how unconvincing you sound.

Seres stares at you, blinking once, twice and then putting a hand to her mouth, "Oh! Oh my, this is quite unexpected but joyous news! Please, let me get the Priest. He'll be positively overjoyed that we have some extra hands-"

Huh... "He looks quite busy, and we have been on the road for so long," You interrupt her before she runs off towards the Priest who seemed to be regaling some villagers with a story that conveniently was keeping some soldiers from returning to Seres, "Do you have someplace we could set our belongings down? It seems quite improper for us to carry weapons into a sacred place such as this, and we have... many things to confess to."

A flash of uncertainty passes over Seres's face, before it sets into a warm and understanding smile as she nods, "Of course, follow me into the back room."

"Thank you," You say before following the young woman, feeling the glares of several soldiers boring into your back as you and Zelda are lead into a room that looked like a mix between a storage room and an office for the church.

Almost immediately as you are through the door Zelda slams it shut behind you and rips off her mask, tears streaking down her cheeks as she croaks out "Seres!"

Seres, without a hint of recognition, is at Zelda's side almost immediately, overcome with concern at the sudden turn at what must be to her a complete stranger.

"My dear, it's alright," Seres says, a reassuring hand placed on Zelda's arm, "You're safe now, whatever troubles you faced won't find you here."

"No," Zelda whispered, looking up to Seres, "No Seres, it's me. It's Zelda."

Seres eyes go wide, and you see Seres's expression shift through a dozen emotions before settling on something between shock and disbelief as she slowly reaches up to cup Zelda's face, inspecting it closely as she whispered, "No... it can't be..."

Yet as she looked into Zelda's tear-filled ruby eyes recognition flared and in an instant Seres's arms were around Zelda, the two girls holding each other close as Seres quietly sobbed into Zelda's golden hair, "You're alive.... you're alive..."

They stayed together for a moment until Seres pulled away, her eyes and nose red and running as she held Zelda by the shoulders, "But how?"

Zelda sniffs, before finally managing, "Impa, she saved me..."

Seres lets out a laugh, shaking her head with a smile, "Of course, of course. I should have had faith, nothing could stop Impa. To think, if I had only travelled to Kakariko..."

Seres stood up, turning to look at you she bowed deeply at the waist, "Thank you, kind stranger, for guiding her majesty here. I am forever in your debt."

You rub your neck awkwardly, looking away from the girl bowing in front of you, "Actually we're not strangers. It's uh me, Link."

Seres suddenly bolted upright, a hand to her mouth as she looked you up and down, "Link?! Oh my goodness it is you! I didn't recognize... this is incredible!"

"Mipha's with us as well, same with Irene and Paya," Zelda added in, rubbing her eyes with her sleeve, "We've come to get you out of here and to the safety of Kakariko."

Seres shook her head, clearly overwhelmed, "Princess Mipha, she's alive too? But... Why is Maple's granddaughter here, and Purah's child as well?"

"Maple was murdered," You growl, shoving down the terrible violent power that bubbled up at the thought of that memory, "And we believe you're next on their list."

Strength seems to leave Seres finally, as she collapsed into a chair, "Maple.... murdered? Oh... Oh Irene that poor girl... Yes, yes I understand... but my father-"

"We'll get him out as well, but we have to leave tonight."

Seres nods, "I understand. I may be a bit rusty, but I'll start gathering my things here and preparing some magic just in case. Zelda... Your Majesty, if you could help me?"

Zelda nods before looking over to you, "I've got things here Link, perhaps it'd be best if you headed over to Seres's home to make sure her father's safe?"

Seres nods in agreement, "Yes, that would be best. You look like you've grown into quite the capable warrior Link, just like your father. We'll be over shortly and... it would be best if someone prepared my father that everyone we thought lost is here and well."

So after getting directions, you begin to make your way through the town over to the outskirts, where a small house with a garden sat separately from all the other homes in the village. While not of poor quality, it was a bit strange to find that a former Sage and kings advisor had been living in such a small home.

As you approach the house though a shadow whispers in your ear, "Seres and Zelda... They were in tears at the sight of each other, yet they were filled with such joy..."

"That's how it is when reuniting with your loved ones who you worried for," You say, unsure of where to speak to address the Twili, "You have loved ones you miss from your home, right?"

Midna is silent for a good long while, too long to simply be dismissive silence before she suddenly says, "Sheesh, I was just making an observation. It doesn't matter to me, as long as it gets me one step closer to returning to the Twilight Realm."

You sigh, shaking your head, "I will. Don't worry about that."

"I'm not!"

You smirk, "Glad to know you have such great confidence in my abilities."

"Hey, I never said that!" Came the indignant reply, "I was- Ooooooooooh, I see what you're doing."

You let out a laugh, which turns into a yelp as you feel something slap the back of your head causing you to stumble forward into the garden of the small home. Immediately, a voice calls out to you "Eh? Who's there?"

You look up, catching sight of an elderly man with a long white beard wearing orange robes sitting on a bench in the middle of the garden, a rather thick tome in his hands. He looks you up and down, seeming to take in every detail of your appearance before he shoots up with a gasp.

"By the goddesses, that green tunic and hat! Just as the legends foretold!" Sahasrahla shouts as he rushes over to you.

"Eh?" Was all you could manage.

"My boy, Link! Yes I know of who you are," Sahasrahla tells you, holding himself upright with a staff, "And I can see by the armour and weapons you bear that you have faced the great evil that has plagued these lands! Even now, I sense the great Gale Boomerang amongst your possessions!"

"....Yes?"

"Ah, I see a look of uncertainty in your gaze. But it is by no mere coincidence that you find yourself here on this day, as I sense a great force for good calling to you from the depths of the Lost Woods! Tell me Link, how much do you know of the Seven Sages, of who your mother belonged too?" Sahasrahla asks.

Unsure of the sudden turn this day had suddenly turned all you can manage is, "Not much?"

Sahasrahla sighs, "Oh that is most unfortunate. Suffice to say, were they here today Hyrule would not be in the dreadful state it finds itself in. But hope is not lost, for their successors are out there even now waiting to be lead by none other than Princess Zelda herself!"

"Uh..."

"I know this must be much to take in, but Princess Zelda is indeed alive. She is held somewhere, waiting for the chosen hero to free her and lead her to the six maidens who are the successors to the Seven Sages so cruelly taken from us! That chosen hero is you Link!" Sahasrahla exclaims, poking you in the chest with his staff.

You just tilt your head slightly.

"Speak to my daughter Seres, one of the few of the past Sages who yet still live. Though she is lost in mourning, your arrival will reawaken her dormant powers and she will aid you with the great trial that awaits you in the Lost Woods!" He tells you, before holding out his arms, "Now go Link, time is of the essence! Complete the trial set before you, claim the Power that lurks within the Lost Woods, gather the lost Maidens and free Princess Zelda-!"

"Oh -ow -ink, youffe ovt oo eye ease ace-ease Aeres ought or the -ervice!" A certain Princess exclaims through a very un-Princess-like mouthful of pastry, doing her best impression of a bushy-tailed squirrel as she sauntered up to you, carrying a basket of said pastries.

No indication of recognition seemed to come from the Elder, however. Sahasrahla simply looked confused at Zelda, looking between her and you with impatience that you were still here rather than hurrying on to find Seres.

[] Write-in your response to this situation.

Okay, this time I was just sick with a bad cold.

[X]Grab a pastry, present Zelda, then eat pastry while enjoying the reaction.

Snagging a pastry from Zelda's basket you take a bite from it and- Wow okay these are really good. Some type of berry pastry, all wonderfully coming together in delicious warm fluffiness... How did they... no, of course! It's utterly brilliant!

You snap your fingers as you swallow, "That's it! I've come up with a new recipe!"

Zelda gives you a thumbs up before shoving another pastry into her mouth.

"Oh yeah," You suddenly remember Sahasrahla was standing there, with a slight flourish you gesture to the crumb-covered princess, "Zelda."

You Found A Giant Nerd!

This nerd is actually the lost Princess of Hyrule, Zelda! You've been travelling with her for a while now, so this message is really pointless- OH NO SHE'S CHOKING!
As Zelda clapped a hand to her throat a momentary burst of panic shot through you as Sahasrahla sputtered and seemed quite taken aback how the situation was rapidly changing. You rush to the Princess's side, just as she starts to gesture with her hand held in some claw shape, jerking it towards her face. Before you decipher what Zelda's charades can mean you hear a "Oh no!" from behind you, and you spare a quick glance to see Seres rushing over followed by the rest of your friends.

Mipha seems to decipher what Zelda was trying to get across quickly and hurries over with a ball of water forming in her hand that she practically shoves into Zelda's face. Zelda drinks greedily from it, soaking her front before she pulls away with a gasp, sputtering slightly.

"I'm so sorry for startling you like that!" You apologize as you check the Princess over to make sure Zelda was truly alright.

Zelda however just looked at you confused, "Huh? Oh yes... startled me... yes..." Zelda says, trailing off as she refused to meet your eyes.

Mipha simply sighs, "I don't think you should be in charge of the sweet basket Zelda."

Wait... did Zelda only choke because she kept shoving pastries in her face like a complete-

"HAHAHA ANYWAYS!" Zelda exclaimed, "Sahasrahla! It's so good to see you! It's me, Princess Zelda! I have so much to tell you!"

Sahasrahla simply stared with his mouth agape for a second before collecting himself and giving a slight bow, "Your majesty! This is... most unexpected! I did not expect the legendary hero to have rescued you and brought you here so quickly! And... so heavily armed as well?"

Zelda glances over to you, an eyebrow raised, "I... guess that happened technically?"

"Rescued from the brink of death?" You state with a shrug.

A gasp comes from Seres, "What?! Oh no your majesty what happened to you!!?"

Sahasrahla also looked disturbed at your casual mention of Zelda being horrifically injured, but doesn't comment as he looked over your assembled group, "I also see you've assembled the other maidens as well? Wait... I sense another power here..."

"Remarkable old man, you are apparently mildly competent at magic. Bravo," Was the sardonic reply from your shadow as two red eyes appeared in its depths.

Seres shrieked in surprise, gathering up her skirt as she jumped away from it as many, many many glowing spheres seemed to appear around her head. Sahasrahla stepped back as well, the end of his staff glowing as he put a hand against his chest only for it to lower as his eyes widened in surprise, "Remarkable, I've never seen a creature such as you before that's able to dwell in someone's shadow! Of course, this must mean you are none other then the Maiden of Shadows herself!"

His hand reached up, stroking his long white beard, "Remarkable, truly remarkable. Please, come in. I think we have much to discuss and I dearly wish to hear of your adventures."

As you all dined on bread, cold meat, wine and cheese with the windows shuttered and the room darkened so Midna could manifest fully you all explained the journey you had all found yourselves on, each of you contributing with your own parts and chiming in with details the others forgot. Tears flowed freely from Seres whenever one of you reached the parts you'd experienced the most hardship and each of you soon found yourself receiving a hug from the kind young sage, save Midna who had glared at Seres when she got near and seemed to be mostly listening in rather than offering many details about herself save occasionally chiming in with a correction.

Sahasrahla stayed mostly quiet, stroking his beard in contemplation only elaborating for a bit more detail on things you saw. He did raise an eyebrow when you all glossed over how you had escaped from Maple's murderers but didn't ask for any more detail about it, even when Mipha gave you a concerned look and you just shook your head and mouthed "Navi should explain" to her. You're still grappling with that reality yourself, and you'd prefer the one who seemed most knowledgable on everything to be the one to let others know. Mipha seemed to accept it, as did Sahasrahla who leaned back in his seat as you finished lost in thought.

"So yeah," Zelda says, leaning slightly forward in her seat, "If it wasn't for the Sheikah Elders, Moebius and Navi we'd be stumbling in the dark. We didn't even realize something was in the lost woods until we were told about it."

"Moebius..." Sahasrahla muttered under his breath like a curse, a dark expression coming over his face for a moment before returning to that of the kind old man you'd been speaking too, "Well, both Seres and I will be happy to aid you though I do agree it would probably be best for us to seek shelter in Kakariko village."

"I have... one question though," Seres suddenly spoke up, shifting uncomfortably in her seat as she played with one of her gold bracelets, "Miss Paya, I understand you're my successor?"

Paya gives a small "Eeep!" at being addressed before giving a few nervous nods.

"Did you..." She pauses, looking as though she was trying to think of the best way to word whatever question she was about to ask, "Did you know any magic before that terrible day you unlocked your abilities?"

Paya winces slightly at being reminded of how she had joined you on your journey before going still for a moment until, slowly, she shook her head no.

Seres's brow furrowed as she shifted her hand to rest her chin against it in a way you'd often seen Zelda do so, "And... all of you were the same?" She asks, looking across the table.

You and your friends all share a glance.

"Everyone said I had some type of sacred power..." Zelda trails off, her gaze occasionally looking down to the Triforce of Wisdom just beginning to glow faintly on the back of her hand.

"I had my healing abilities. They were always unique but I must admit I never felt capable of pulling off what I could just suddenly... do after I awakened my powers," Mipha said rather straightforwardly, giving Seres an odd look.

"Well I mean, Grandma trained me as a witch but the whole making trees appear is kinda new..." Irene scratched the back of her head, brow furrowed as she thought over Seres's question.

"I worked for my magical abilities, there is a reason I was to be appointed as the new Queen of the Twilight Realms," Midna stated rather indignantly, straightening up to her full height that only Mipha could match amongst your group.

You didn't say anything, you knew where you had gained your abilities even if it still seemed fantastical to you.

Seres at those explanations only looked increasingly concerned, "I... I am afraid I don't know how much help I'll be then. I was known as the Sage of Spirits yes, but... I learned my abilities. From my father, from her Majesty the Queen and the others, I never could manage what you all seem to with purely unconscious effort."

"Hey, you're a great Sage! Grandma told me all about how you were a prodigy of spirit magic!" Irene shouted, bolting upright from her seat, "Look it's weird as a Witch to just think "Hey I would really love a tree here" and for it to just happen but it's nothing like what you can do! You're so much better than us... there's so much I can learn from you about Grandma-" Irene stops, clamping her mouth shut suddenly as she takes her seat again. You see her hand reach up to pull something down over her eyes but with her hat not on her head she instead opts to stare at her lap hiding her face behind her bangs.

Seres looks for a moment that she wants to leap up from her seat and hug Irene, but her father gently puts a hand on her shoulder to keep her seated before he spoke, "My daughter is a prodigy yes, one of the finest I've ever had the privilege to teach." Sahasrahla explains, "And the Sages were the finest sorceress's this land has known for countless ages, it was an honour to know them. But you must understand that you are the Maidens legend speaks of, the seven amongst whom a Princess wielding the sacred power of the goddesses will unite with the great hero in green to save Hyrule from calamity. I am certain Seres will be instrumental in helping you achieve your destiny, but you all and you all alone are the ones chosen by the Gods."

"But... why were there seven sages then, was it all just a coincidence?" Mipha asks, her voice strained as she dug her nails slightly into the table. Everyone seemed to be equally affected by what Sahasrahla had said, even Midna who seemed suddenly lost in thought.

"Ah, that was Lady Purah's idea, a very bright student though preferred the physical world to the esoteric. Of course, it never became seven until they had accepted Seres as a student," Sahasrahla said, making Paya's head shoot up.

"M-mother's idea?" She asked, looking completely confused.

"Lady Purah's idea?" Seres added in as well, it seemed she wasn't aware of this either.

Sahasrahla sighed, closing his eyes as nostalgia seemed to overcome him, "It was back when I was... well when I was a teacher at the Academy. It was quite shocking to one day see two Sheikah girls, dressed in second-hand uniforms and with out-of-date textbooks show up to my class, their hair still done up in the Sheikah style. Even back then, being a colleague of Robbie and having travelled the world with him it was quite an event to see the Sheikah outside their enclaves. They were inseparable and had a hunger for knowledge none of my other students had, save the only other student in similar financial straits, an islander girl who they instantly gravitated too, the three of them acting like they had known each other since birth after only a day," Sahasrahla chuckled, shaking his head.

"Of course, my superior instantly believed me when I said that they were possibly the most talented students I had ever heard the Academy of having and Maple chose to join me in tutoring them, and signed my recommendation that Purah should study under professor Robbie. Ha! You should have seen the faculty's faces when they saw a young student and an accredited professor arguing theories on ancient Sheikah tech as equals within an hour of meeting each other, it was wonderful," This time he laughed heartily, wiping away a tear, "Ah but Maple had the true surprise, for the first meeting of our little study group she produced a young Rito Priestess of Din who had journeyed to the academy to peruse the religious texts we had to help her in her religious duties. Things went well for that first meeting, then all of a sudden Purah announced to us all that they should be called the Sages, after the old legends as an in-joke to their study to the past. We never imagined at the time what it would mean for Hyrule..."

"So... The great sages were actually just a study group?" You ask, shaking your head in disbelief. That did explain how your mother and the Queen had become so close. Other questions burned at your mind, wanting to ask all you could about your mother, but you kept them to yourself for now.

Sahasrahla shook his head, "While it started like that it had become so much more in a short time. In no time at all our little group had become some of the greatest sorceresses the academy had ever produced, Purah assisting with ancient knowledge though her path had become that of a researcher then a spellcaster. It wasn't long until Maple contacted an old friend of her's and we received a missive that none other than the great Zora Queen Oren had asked for them to become her personal apprentices. While my place then was at the Royal Court, Maple travelled with them there as she was never one for the city and soon I began to hear of the great deeds they were accomplishing," He paused then, a sudden grimace overcoming him as he suddenly glanced towards Zelda, before he continued with a great deal of tension in his voice, "Things... happened then as the whole kingdom was celebrating your birth, your majesty, King Ganondorf arrived," As he spoke Ganondorf's name it also sounded like he was desperately trying to avoid spitting at the name, before Sahasrahla collected himself.

"He presented to the Queen a gift, an apprentice of such great and phenomenal skill at lightning magic that she had already become just as strong as the Sages as a mere child. Ganondorf's own half-sister, Urbosa," He spoke, saying Urbosa's name with far more warmth then he had given her brother.

"That's how my mother met big sis- er Urbosa?" Zelda asked, sounding so flabbergasted that whatever storm of emotions she had been experiencing before seemed to be utterly forgotten.

Sahasrahla eyes seemed to twinkle in the candlelight as his beard parted with a wide-smile, "Oh no, your mother met Urbosa when she had walked up after Ganondorf announced her, kicked her brother in the shin with an electrically infused foot and then declared to the entire court that she was the biggest fan of the Queen and wanted her autograph. Your mother, barely recovered from your birth, laughed so hard she fell off her throne and as her handmaidens all rushed to lift her up declared that she was keeping Urbosa and no one could stop her."

"Ah," Zelda stated, "That makes more sense."

...You really want to meet this Urbosa now.

"A few years later her majesty took me on as an apprentice and that's how we became the seven sages," Seres adds in, closing off the story, "Though even I never knew the whole story, I was younger even then Urbosa when I joined."

A silence followed as you all mulled over the information. Questions burned in your mind, so many that you weren't sure what to ask and you would bet the others felt the same. So it was quite a shock when Midna suddenly spoke.

"So do none of you find it strange then that a simple group of scholars all gave birth to the supposed true saviours?" She asked, glancing up and down the group, "More so, how do I relate to this? I am not of this realm, and I certainly have no connection to any of these Sages."

Sahasrahla stroked his beard, "Yes, that is quite curious. Yet you seem to constantly gravitate to hiding in the shadow of none other than the son of the late Sage of Shadows. Perhaps there is far more of connection then you realize, Lady Midna. Though I'm afraid it seems only the gods know for certain."

Midna suddenly looks to you then, a strange emotion on her face but for only a moment before it returns to the look of skepticism she had worn throughout Sahasrahla's speech.

You wonder...

Helping Sahasrahla and Seres pack was easy with the Sheikah Slate, Zelda apparently taking great joy in dematerializing all their belongings as she hummed a tune to herself.

Then, under the cover of night, your group stole towards the nearby Sheikah Gate as sneakily as you could. Having a Sheikah and a being of pure shadows though made sneaking through a breeze, and soon you were at the Sheikah gate which Zelda quickly activated and you all ventured through to Kakariko Village where Impa was waiting on the other side of the gate. Seres immediately ran to embrace the Sheikah warrior in a hug, much to the surprise and embarrassment of Impa.

While Impa was trying to pry the overjoyed Seres off her with an increasingly beet-red face Sahasrahla gave a bit more info on the Sacred Power held in the lost woods. Whatever it was it was ancient, he could find no information on it save that in the past mages had felt something powerful beyond all belief from the forest, and what few friendly beings who were more ancient then their records had told them that it was a power ONLY for the Legendary Hero. With that, he wished you good luck, and help lead the horses and cart back to Kakariko as they would not do well in the dense lost woods.

So with that you returned, the moon high in the sky illuminating the already thick wilderness around you even before you had reached the lost woods proper. Some measure of relief washed over your group, knowing that without any hassle you had ensured the safety of Seres and Sahasrahla. Still you all knew the journey was not over, and you all prepared to venture into the night towards the Lost Woods, not daring to risk any soldiers seeing you head there during daylig-

"EEK!" A high-pitched voice suddenly screamed, sounding as though it was far away yet seemingly getting closer. Instantly you all draw your weapons, ready for anything as the voice screams again, "HELP! THEY'RE GOING TO EAT ME!!"

"We need to go! Someone's in danger!" You shout to the other's, but before you can even take a step something catches your eye. It almost looked like within the trees someone was waving a lantern around, yet you never saw any lantern that was a pale blue before. Nor one that could rapidly change direction as it darted too and fro before it suddenly broke the treeline, revealing itself to be a small blue orb that was dancing back and forth, dipping up and down as though held by someone almost ready to keel over as its light seemed to pulse like a rapid heartbeat. Suddenly the light brightened and it shot towards your group at frightening speed!

What do?
[] Block it with your shield!
[] Try to hit it with your sword!
[] Have the others cast spells!
[] Catch it with your hat.

Apologies, I started writing this update before people all bandwagoned on another vote. I should have locked it when I started writing, and I apologize for that.

[X] Catch it with your hat.

Perhaps it was because after your encounter with the Skulltulas had taught valuable lessons of keeping aware of your surroundings at all times but even as you drew your sword you made sure to listen for any movement, any sign that something was off or using this to ambush you. As the light raced towards you a sound reached your ears, a droning noise that seemed awfully familiar to ones you heard during hot summer nights though. The beat of insect wings though different in a way, almost like a bell was following it. Relaxing you let your sword slip from your hands and with one smooth motion you sweep off your hat and bring it over the ball of light as it shoots towards you so fast your friends barely have time to react, which is a bit odd considering who you were with.

Not quite as odd as the voice the cries out "HEY-MMFF" and is just as quickly muffled as your hat begins to violently shake.

You look over to your friends confused as they all glance equally confused between you and your struggling hat.

"Oh, you dropped your sword?"

"Did anyone else hear a voice?"

"Wait did we really get spooked by a firefly?"

Unable to really answer you hold open your hat, its inside lit by blue light as something grabs onto the brim with a tiny limb.

"PAH!! Oh, I thought I was a goner-!" A girls voice clearly projected despite the size of the tiny thing it was coming from, "How'd they catch meeee...?" She trails off, freezing in place.

The thing inside your hat seemed at first glance a ball of blue light with four thin gossamer wings emerging from it that fluttered slightly with a nervous energy despite appearing slightly crumpled. On closer inspection though a figure could be seen inside the light. It looked like a Hylian girl, around the same age as your friends and completely proportional to normal Hylian dimensions despite easily being able to sit on your palm. Her long messy hair flowed freely down her back, her eyes two dark spots in the light looking up at you with a wide-eyed look of shock. She was wearing very little, only a dress which seemed to have been made out of two leaves tied at the waist with a piece of vine. The back leaf had a part of it cut out to allow her wings to emerge, which were proportionally much larger than the tiny figure who while clinging to the brim of your hat had begun to rapidly shimmy to the side, then started shimmying in the opposite direction as she watched your faces before she visibly gulped and whispered with a terrified squeak "They can see me!!"

Oh... Oh you think you know what this creature is. "Uh hi?" You begin, offering a finger to the tiny girl, "Sorry about catching you like that. My name is Link?"

The tiny girl reached up and with a surprisingly tingly grip shook your finger up and down before nervously stating "U-uhm, I'm Proxi? Y-you aren't going t-to eat me o-or keep me in a cage, are you?"

"No! Of course not, right guys?" You ask, glancing towards your friends.

Your Friends (save Midna who had apparently gotten bored and was examining the gate) who had completely managed to fill the space around you, their faces a hairs width from your hat and the fairy contained within as they made a long continuous "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" Sound.

Proxi looked at them nervously, "Uh..."

You pinched the bridge of your nose, "Look Navi will vouch for-"

"YOU KNOW QUEEN NAVI?!" Proxi shouted, darting up suddenly and holding you by the nose as she got right in your face.

"Uh yeah? We saved her from Imprisonment-"

"SHE WAS IMPRISONED?!" The fairy cries out in horror, flying back with her hands clapped over her mouth, "Oh dear, oh dear!" She cried as the fairy began to fly erratically around you in a panic, before suddenly stopping, looking to you with a curious expression, "But... you saved her?"

You nod, "Yeah, and she gave me this outfit as thanks. Do you recognize it?"

The fairy tapped its chin, staring at you with squinted eyes, "Hmmmmmmm, nope! But you know, I can feel her in your hat, so you must be telling the truth!" She cheerfully responded, before gasping, "But then... that must mean you're some type of hero Link! But if you're a hero and here then.... you must be after the sacred power!"

You nod, "Yeah! Do you know what it is?"

"Nope!"

You let out a long sigh, looks like you won't find out till you actually find it. You look over to Zelda, "Hey, Zelda? We can't leave her out here, should we-"

"Fairyfairyfairyfairyfairyit'safairyfairyfairyit'ssocuteIwanttogetdressesandbowsit'lllooksocuteeeeeeeeeeeeeee-"

The tiny fairy gasped again, "Zelda!? As in like the Princess!? You're so much bigger than when I saw you! Wow! You've become really pretty too!"

"CANWEBEBESTFRIENDS?!" Zelda asked, suddenly millimetres from the fairy.

"Of course!" The fairy said with a smile.

"YAY!"

"And that's Princess Mipha," You say, gesturing to the Zora Princess who was chewing on her lip while seemingly torn on whether she should cuddle the fairy or not.

"Wow! You're so sparkly! Are your scales made of rubies? I've never seen rubies before!" Proxie asked as she zipped around Mipha, who had begun to giggle and laugh as a bunch of sparkles seemed to fall off the fairy and land on her scales.

"And that's Paya, a Sheikah."

Proxie gasped, and with another short tingle of a bell zipped over to the maskless Paya, Proxi lifting up Paya's hair to look at her forehead, "You're one of the goddesses servants! Who make the glowy swirly thingamabobs! OH GOSH! You even have the super cool tattoo!"

While Paya was doing her best impression of a squirrel deflating like a balloon you pointed towards Irene, "And that's Irene, she's a witch."

"Is that why you have such a big hat!?" Proxi asked, flying up to Irene's face making the junior witch blink in surprise, "Oh oh! I bet you can make super potions, you look really talented!"

Even in the dark, you could see the blush spread across Irene's face as she tried to hide her face, mumbling to herself as you cleared your throat and pointed towards Midna, "And last but not least that's Midna, she's from another world called the Twilight Realm,"

Proxi flew over to her, a sphere of light amongst roiling darkness as Midna regarded the tiny fairy before holding out a hand for Proxi to land on. "I've never seen anything like you before!" The little fairy stated, her wings flapping excitedly, "It's a pleasure to meet you Miss Midna!"

"A pleasure to meet you as well little one," Midna spoke with a softness you had never really expected from the Twili, though she quickly followed her greeting with a scrutinizing look, "Tell me, that was your voice previously calling out for aid, wasn't it? Why did you head towards us?"

"Oh, it's because you all look so tough no one would pick a fight with you!" Proxi answered immediately, and though you couldn't see her expression you only imagined she had a wide grin on her face, "So I thought I could hide from the Keese that were chasing me in your packs, but I never suspected you could see me!"

"Hold on, Keese? How many?" You interrupt, picking up your sword.

Proxi floated up from Midna's hand and looks over to you, "Four really mean looking ones! They tried to eat me when I went out to look at the fireflies! I thought they'd hate being near that weird power so nights were safe now, but they flew at me without a care!" Proxie let out a harumph, and you could make out the faint silhouette of her putting her hands on her hips, "Good thing the scaredy cats can't handle anything big! I bet they're-" Proxi froze, her light dimming, her voice a terrified whisper as she pointed to the treeline "But... how? Why would they... there's so many.... I... I put the humans in danger..."

Instantly everyone's weapons were readied, Mipha calling out to Proxi, "Hide in Link's hat Proxi! I'll ready a spell, everyone get ready to deal with the stragglers!"

A chorus of agreements as you felt a tiny figure crawl into your hat and snuggle into your hair followed Mipha's orders as she waved a hand through the air as though stirring a pool. Swirling water gathered around her, a sphere forming in front of her water continued to weave through the air around her, moving so quickly they were more like metal blades then water, all the while a distinct flapping of wings and the chittering of many fanged mouths were getting closer.

Glowing yellow eyes, dozens of them, appeared in the darkness between the tree trunks before a mass of shadows surged towards your group with a deafening flap of many wings.

Keese, the plague of the night. While Stal's would rise at night over and over from monster corpses unless their bones were destroyed Keese seemed to emerge from nowhere, occasionally nests of Keese could be found in the dark corners of Hyrule but nothing to explain the vast numbers that would appear every night. Keese notably hated light, which often meant they avoided settlements and roads that were constantly lit. The fact Keese could take on elemental properties was once one of the reasons Luminous Stone was so wildly used in the Zora's domain (as well as the Zora's distaste for fire) which may go to explain the Empire's hunger for the glowing rock.

Keese are also profoundly weak, consisting of little more than a pair of wings and head with a fanged mouth and single glowing eye. Even a single blow from an elderly man with a stick could kill one, and tents were often safe places from swarms. Even the swarm that was rushing towards you wasn't much of a concern other than slowing you down as you tended to your injuries, and time was a commodity you couldn't afford to waste.

So you stood and watched, vaguely aware of the explosive held in Zelda's hand as Mipha thrust out a hand towards the sound, anticipating the sound of rending flesh and dying squeaks of the little monsters as a wave of water surged towards them.

You didn't expect the muscled clawed arm to shoot out from the water, grabbing Mipha by the head.

"WHAT-?!" Was all Mipha could manage before with one quick movement it slammed her head into the ground with a sickening crunch.

You don't even wait to see what the creature is before you slash down with your sword. It throws up an arm to defend itself, your blade feeling like it had hit solid wood rather than flesh. In that same instant a torrent of water strikes it in the chest and the creature explodes. But rather than splattering you with gore Keese shot out past you, buffeting you with your wings as Mipha scrambles to her feet, blood dripping from the side of her head and even in the dark you could tell she looked dazed.

You glance over to the others just as an explosion goes off that shakes your bones, along with the sudden dying shrieks of many Keese. Zelda was readying another bomb along with slashing at nearby swarming Keese with one of her knives. Paya was sending bolts flying wildly from her wand, her wild flailing wand hitting as many Keese as her bolts did. Irene was wielding her broom like a quarterstaff, spinning it too and fro before with a vicious crack another Keese fell dead to the ground, green light emanating from her hands as she began to prepare to surround you with foliage. Behind her you could just barely make out dark arms made of shadows reaching up from the ground, clutching spears aimed at anything that would get near.

You slash through a Keese that had slipped through your friends, cleaving it in two only to notice above Midna a swarm seemed to gather, a shape emerging from the tangle of limbs. Dark reddish-purple flames, sparking with energy surrounded its hands and with a dawning realization you yelled out as you ran "MIDNA, WATCH OUT!!"

The bolt struck the shadow on the ground, a shriek of pain following as you see Midna blasted out of the shadow as the dark energy seemed to course across her body. You dive in front of her, barely catching the second bolt with your shield. You look over to Midna who was lying on the ground behind you, seeing her staring with wide eyes at the wound across her stomach, the flesh looking melted as though a Chuchu had dissolved it. Your attention from Midna is abrutly shifted however as you barely bring your shield up to block a diving blow from the monster, your shield and arm cracking noticeably. As your arm begins to go limp you twist your sword around in your hand and plunge it into the neck of the monsters. It rears back with enough strength to snap your sword in two and you get your first good look at the creature. It was humanoid and portly, covered in coarse dark hair. It stood on two short legs as a long spade-tipped tail whipped back and forth behind it. Its arms were long, ending in clawed hands. Two large batlike wings extended from its back, large enough to easily carry its weight. The monsters bat-like head was set on a large neck, its gaping mouth filled with needle-like teeth as four eyes burned with hatred towards you before its whole body erupted in a mass of Keese save one that fell to the ground skewered by your sword.
A scream back from the others makes your gaze jerk away from the bizarre scene you just witnessed and back towards your friends, just in time to watch Irene fall scrabbling at her back as that same dark energy eats away at her flesh. A sudden emerging tree stops the other monster from crushing her as it skids off the bark and hurls a bolt at Paya that strikes her in the chest. Her new armour blackens but holds as she falls backwards, wide-eyed only for the monster to close the distance in an instant and slam its clawed foot into her. An inarticulate scream of rage follows and Zelda lunges at the creature with her dagger, driving it into the creatures neck while dropping the bomb she was holding. A spray of blood and a grunt, followed by Zelda rolling on the ground before stumbling to her feet clutching her bloodied front showed that she had the same luck you did stabbing this creature. It charged her, wings flapping only for a red blur to race in and with a flash of silver Mipha plunged her trident into the monster. It roared in pain, only to explode into Keese as a blast of magic from behind from an injured Paya that had pushed herself up onto her knees struck it right in the centre of its back, Mipha stumbling slightly from the concussion as the creature disappeared, though several Keese were impaled on the end of her trident.

You look over to Midna, who gives you a nod as she pushes herself up while still clutching her wound, a shadow hand emerging from the darkness behind her and scooping up dirt and stone. With Midna still capable of fighting you rush over to your friends, only for the hairs on the back of your neck to stand on end. You swing your shield arm and with a flash of light you see another bolt of energy bounce off your shield, flying back at the monster that had fired it, striking it dead on and making it explode into more keese. At the same time your shield detonates, sending you tumbling to the ground where Zelda had dropped the bomb, your right arm now thoroughly ruined. Without even thinking you grab the bomb. pull the cord on top with your teeth and throw it towards the disintegrating monster, dozens of the little monsters vanishing in the fireball.

A little voice comes from under your hat as you feel something poke its head out from under the brim of your hat, "They're the Keese swarms! Destroy the swarms and the creatures die!"

You yell that to your friends and a chorus of acknowledgements come from them as you see a mass of stone of earth, several trees, bolts of magic and swirling masses of water shoot through the air. Through the darkness you could just barely make out humanoid shapes suddenly disintegrate into swirling masses, only for it to immediately be followed by the glint of multiple bombs spinning through the air.

The explosion knocks you all off your feet, stunned, injured but alive as shattered Keese carcasses all land around you. A moment passes, then another but no other attacks come. The silence is only broken when you hear a winded Midna ask "What. The Heck. Were those things?"

You push yourself up, "No idea, is everyone alright?"

"I'm... I'm alright, don't worry about me," Mipha responds, slurring her speech slightly.

"Uuuugh, I'll live," Irene responds, "Ooow, I can feel dirt in my back burns. Ack, It's burned, right? It feels burnt..."

A shuddering breath comes from Zelda, "T-think they... ah, think they s-scrapped the ribs but long as we don't move much shouldn't bleed out."

Paya coughed, "I...I am alive Master Link, don't be concer-oooh ow ow ow ow...."

"I've been better..." Midna says through gritted teeth, "How did they attack me in the shadows?"

You glance over to your now limp right arm and grit your teeth, a problem for later. "Right, we need to deal with Mipha's concussion. Mipha, are you still able to heal?"

Mipha nods, "Yeah... yeah. Just... will take a while. Hours for myself."

You look up to the sky, judging the time. You don't have hours before dawn, and there's no guarantee there isn't more Keese, "That won't do, you'll need to take a fairy tonic."

Mipha shakes her head, only to stop and clutch the bleeding side of it, blood dripping between her fingers, "No... thank you for your concern Link but we'll need those if one of us goes down in a fight. It takes too long to heal even minor bruises in combat. Even a concussion... unless I pass out or we get into a fight it's not worth it."

"B-but Lady Mipha..." Paya begins, before clamping her mouth shut, both from being unsure of what to say to the Zora Princess and from suddenly wincing in pain as she shifted.

"Hey! We have a fairy! Just sprinkle some dust and we'll be fine!" Irene adds, wincing as she pushes herself up.

You feel something crawl out from under your hat, and you hold out your left hand for Proxi to land on, squinting a bit to avoid being blinded by the fairy. Only to your surprise she wasn't glowing, which gave you a better look at her features. She was pale skinned, her eyes and messy long hair a light blue colour. She almost looked like she could be related to Navi, though she was a bit lighter in colouration. She was rubbing her arm, looking apologetic, "I'm... I'm not good at healing. I'm a guiding fairy, I keep people away from bad things and help them when they're lost. We usually work together, but... I'm alone here..."

"Alone?" You ask, and the fairy winces.

"I... I like being around humans," She mumbles quietly, "W-with the great fairies missing everyone else just wanted to hide..."

You sigh, that put a damper on things. But Zelda suddenly asked, "So you can guide us somewhere safe right?"

The fairies eyes went wide, and she nodded enthusiastically, "Yep yep! Safest place in all of Hyrule! The Korok Forest!"

You all look to each other, before Zelda asks confused, "Korok... forest?"

Proxi clapped her hands to her mouth, "Oh right! You humans call it the Lost woods because of the Korok's fog!"

"Wait... the Korok's put a curse on that place?" Irene asks incredulously.

Proxi shakes her head, "It's not a curse! The fog doesn't hurt anybody, it just safely sends them out of the forest to keep them from reaching the centre where their big chief lives!"

"Koroks... have a chief?" You ask, this was news to you and you could only imagine what the chief of the Korok's is like. His "Yahaha!" must be deafening...

"Yep! If you go up reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaally high you can see the biggest tree EVER in the centre of the forest. I'm certain that's where he lives!" Proxi enthusiastically responds, flying up to your face.

"You don't know?" Midna says, raising an eyebrow.

Proxi scratches her chin, "Weeell... I've never been in the forest, I've just lead people away from the edge. I um... I don't like being pranked."

"Think we can endure a few pranks for safety," You say with a smile, and you see the tiny give you a smile back, "But how do we get through the fog?"

Proxi closes her eyes, folding her arms over her leaf covered chest, "Weeeell, I can lead you of course. Ooooor you might be able to use really powerful magic to get through."

Zelda perks up, "I've got my light arrows! If we're careful I might be able to get us to the centre before the bow melts."

"Whatever it is we do I agree with moving, those... creatures may return and soldiers will find us before we're healed if we stay and it will be dawn when the darkness won't hide us," Midna grimly pointed out, saying "Dawn" with a noticeable amount of distaste.

What do you do?
[] Have Proxi lead you through the fog.
[] Have Zelda use her magic to pierce the fog.
[] Risk getting attacked and heal.

[X] Have Proxi lead you through the fog.

"Alright, Midna you assist Mipha," Nodding towards the only person close to Mipha's height in the clearing, "Proxi? Lead the way."

The tiny fairy salutes, blossoming into a sphere of pale blue light, "You got it! Just stay close behind and we'll be there before you know it!"

++++
"We're lost, aren't we?" Irene asks, stepping past the twisted dark trunk of the massive tree that had seemed to emerge suddenly from the fog, its branches looking more like outstretched limbs than anything belonging to a plant.

Proxi flits back and forth, a beacon of light in the oppressive fog that clawed at your feet, so thick you couldn't tell if it was night or day. You couldn't imagine how anything lived here yet thick moss and ferns covered the ground and tree's in spite of it. "We're still on track!" Proxi calls out, "We haven't been transported out of the forest yet so we can't be lost!"

Mipha, who was being supported by Midna, glanced over to the Twili, "It may be the concussion, but that wasn't reassuring in the slightest was it?"

Midna sighs, muttering to herself, "The one place that is right for me and it's cold damp wilderness I'm going to die in. At least the wolf is happy..."

Sif did seem rather unperturbed by the fog, barking happily at some crows that flitted overhead who also seemed weirdly unperturbed by the fog. You shiver, not from any concern at the animals but from the cold dampness that seeped through your clothes, plastering your hair to your forehead and made your clothes hang like leaden weights from your body.

"Um... It's still night isn't it? Are crows n-nocturnal?" Paya asks, pointing up to the dark feathered birds flitting about overhead.

"That is quite odd, the slate says it isn't dawn yet but mountain crows aren't known for being nocturnal-GAH!" Zelda suddenly cries out as her foot disappears past a group of ferns, followed by a splash announcing the location of a hidden creek. Zelda stays there a minute, eyes closed and taking deep breaths until she pulls her boot out of the creek with a squelching sound.

"This is... the worst. The absolute worst," Zelda muttered through clenched teeth.

Proxi flew up close to the Princess, her fretting plain to see how she bobbed back and forth in the air, "Uh don't worry! I'm sure we'll find it soon! You can't get lost in the lost woods so I'm sure we're on the right track. Wait no that isn't reassuring at all-"

"You guys hear that?"

Everyone turns to look at you, even Sif, with a look of confusion as you put a hand to your ear and try to listen.

"Could have sworn I just heard... think it was over here..." You mutter, following the sound. It almost sounded like a voice but you couldn't make it out. But who'd be this far into the woods? Was it a Korok?

Proxi suddenly flew in front of you, frantically waving her arms "H-hey! You can't just go wandering off! The mists will take you away! There's no way this is-" She stops, looking towards where you were walking, "Oh..."

What had been formless tree trunks and wilderness suddenly seemed to form into a wall of stone and wood stretching out to either side of you into the mists yet splitting it in twain was the obvious signs of a path, carefully tended and free of vegetation.

Proxi shot forward, hovering in front of the path in front of you, "TADA! I told you all I'd lead you to the centre of the forest! I'm certain it's right through here!"

You walk past, giving her a nod and smile as you offer your shoulder for her to ride, "Thank you Proxi, you've really saved us. Let's go meet the Koroks."

Even through the bright light she was emitting you could see the fairy give an enthusiastic nod, before she flitted over to your shoulder, taking a seat on it as you walked forward, your friends following close behind. You passed between walls of moss-covered stone and roots, walking forward through the twisting path until you rounded a bend and could see an opening ahead, and the first hint of sky. All your paces quickened, and your group burst out into the cool, fogless night air with bursts of relieved laughter.

It took a moment for any of you to even take a look around at the clearing, you were all just glad to be free of the fog. When you finally did take a look around it became apparent this was a truly an ancient part of the forest, the tree's here so wide and large you doubted anyone could hope to fell them with any axe. Strange plants and mushrooms could be seen at the edges of the clearing, lighting the place with an oddly comforting glow. The whole clearing seemed surreal, like something out of a fairytale but nothing, nothing could prepare your group for what was across from you. It was a tree, though even that seemed a poor description as there wasn't any tree remotely close in size to the one before you. Its branches were the size of Castletown's cobbled streets, its trunk as wide as the centre keep of Hyrule Castle and far taller. You could hide entire buildings in its Ivy and moss covered roots. It was also old, so old its bark seemed as creased and crinkled as the Sheikah Elders skin. Was this the progenitor of the entire forest? Shock and awe didn't overcome your group though as there was something... calming about being in this tree's presence. It was almost like it was smiling down on you, like a Grandfather seeing his beloved grandchildren.

Speaking of children from the branches and bushes tiny leaf faces poked out, with holes cut into a variety of expressions as excited chatter filled the clearing.

"It's Mr. Hero!"

"Mr. Hero is here!"

"Oh! That's Miss Princess!"

"Hey Miss Spirit is here too!"

"Really!? I can't wait to tell the deer!"

"Oh is that Miss Forest?"

"It is! I can feel my branches tingling!"

"Miss Water too!"

"Oh! Oh! Prepare the creek! I bet she wants a drink!"

"Wolfy!"

"GASP! MISS SHADOW!"

"Wow! Didn't think they'd find her this quick!"

"Quick! Prepare some shade! Morning will be here in a few hours!"

"Aww, but I'm sleepy..."

The girls just sat down in the grass, tending to their wounds and watching with wide eyes as slowly tiny Koroks began to emerge, dozens of them shyly poking their heads out to get a look at your party.

You didn't care though.

Everything just seemed to fall away as you locked eyes onto what was in the centre of the clearing.

It was a stone dais, in the shape of a now very familiar triangle. Small statues, made with such simplicity and childish exaggeration that instantly made it clear who their designer was, surrounded it along with three white and blue flowers, their floral scent carrying a hint of nostalgia and familiarity. Yet even this faded away as you saw what was set into the centre, untouched by the elements and almost out of place.

It was a sword.

It wasn't glowing, it was barely adorned. It had a purple hilt of a length that would easily allow you to use it with a one-handed or two-handed stance and crossguard which were shaped to resemble wings, with a gold diamond shape set in the centre. The pommel was large, yet seemed to be perfectly balanced even from a glance. The blade had no designs save for the symbol of the triforce etched close to the hilt and a slightly widened shape close to the hilt before the edge of the blade started. The edge of the blade looked so sharp it could cut through even the toughest mail, the metal plain yet almost unlike anything you had seen before.

Yet despite how plain it seemed, even an untrained eye could tell there was no sword more perfect than the one only a few steps away.

Your hand began to reach out, closing around it its hilt. It fit so perfectly, so comfortably in your hand. You expected it to feel cold, for evening dew to cling to its metal surface but instead it felt... right. Your grip tightened as your hand began to glow...

"Link?!"

Your head snaps up, and you turn to look at your friends walking towards you. They were that far away? When had you walked over here?

"Hey what are you doing? That sword could be cursed!" Irene scolded you, folding her arms over her chest as she stepped onto the dais, "Wait, why is there a sword here?"

"It looks new, could the Koroks have put it here?" A healed Mipha asks, looking it up and down, "Strange, it looks to be of really high quality..."

Zelda simply looked confused and she turned to Paya, "Hey, did we ever have a sword like that at the manor? It looks really familiar."

Paya simply shook her head, which made Zelda frown, "Strange, it seems so familiar. Maybe I gave away a sword like that to a knight back at the castle, always was doing stuff like that..."

"Do NONE of you sense that?!" An exasperated Midna suddenly shouted, "That power?! What lead us here in the first place?!"

Everyone shook their heads, except Proxi who raised a hand, "It's... it feels... safe? I've been here so long... But I never wondered..."

Midna rubbed her temples, sighing, "I am going to have to teach you all, aren't I? We were here for a weapon, right? Well... I believe we've found it."

Irene scoffed, "A sword? This can't be it. What kind of magic can a sword have compared to the things we've seen?"

"No... Midna's right," You say, hand tightening on the hilt, "This is it. The fog wasn't supposed to protect the Koroks. It was to protect... this," Tiny heads, peeking out from the bushes nodded. You could hear excited whispers dying down as dozens of tiny figures began to hold their breath, waiting and watching for you and you alone.

"Well, you have your hand on it so pull it out Link," Zelda said with a nod, stepping back, "Korok's might be pranksters but this... I think it's for you Link."

The others nodded though with varying levels of doubt and took a step back. You took a deep breath, closed your other hand around the hilt and pulled.

The sword didn't budge.

You looked down at it in confusion. It was stuck fast in the stone and no matter how hard you pulled it wouldn't budge. Was... was the sword rejecting you?

A small pair of hands closed around your own, a golden triangle blazing with blinding light on the back of one of them, "Oh no! Don't think for a second sword we're leaving without you!"

You look up in surprise to Zelda's face so close to your own, her teeth gritted as she mutters under her breath, "Boomerang then this, Oooh there's an archeological mystery here and I'm going to uncover it! Oh, I bet Navi knows..."

Red scaled hands suddenly grabbed the crossguard, yellow eyes meeting your own as a fierce toothy grin spread across Mipha's face, "If Undyne and my Brother taught me anything it's that a little extra elbow grease solves everything! Let's see what this sacred power is all about!"

Another set of pale hands and crimson eyes followed, "M-master Link! L-let me be of a-assistance to you, e-even in this small way! I-I know we can do this!!"

Great voluminous sleeves pushed past as a small frame squeezed in, "What, you think I'm going to leave you guys hanging? Don't worry! The Greatest Witch of this Generation has your backs!"

Blue black hands followed, and you looked over to see a pair of crimson and yellow eyes very deliberately trying to meet your own, "What? You need a sword."

A tiny blue light danced around your hands, flitting back and forth, "I believe in you guys! Pull that sword free!"

You shake your head, trying to hold back a laugh before you tighten your grip on the blade, "Okay everyone, on three!"

A chorus of acknowledgements followed.

"One."

"Two!"

"THREE!"

You all pull.

You feel a weight shift.

You all pull harder.

The sound of metal on stone reaches your ears.

You all keep pulling!

Blue-white light begins to fill your vision.

You all don't stop pulling.

Something gives.
It's been a long time...
There was a flash, a gust of wind that nearly threw you off your feet. You feel and hear your friends pushed back, landing around you though not hard. As the blinding light fades you see them push themselves up, knocked over but unhurt as they quickly look towards you, eyes widening as they see what was held in your hands.
Hasn't it?
It fit perfectly in your hands, the weight balanced so perfectly it felt more like an extension of your body than a sword. You held it aloft in the air, moonlight catching for a second until the blade began to glow with a soft, blue-white light, the glow softly reflected in the faces of your friends. You gave it an experimental swing, then another and another as the sword danced merrily through the air. Your every stroke seemed complemented by the sword's movements as if it was your partner in a some forgotten dance until, finally, you brought it down to rest, the pale light coming from it pulsing slightly, as if it was a sigh of joy from at last being free.
Master...
"Link..."

You look over to your friends, now having climbed to their feet as they stare at you, uncertainty written in their faces. You look down to your new companion than to your friends and begin to speak.

"OH HO HO HO HO! I see! You truly are the hero of legends! My, it has been a long wait..." A booming voice suddenly cut you off, echoing throughout the clearing.

You look up, and up and up to the giant tree that dominated the clearing as your friends followed your gaze as they slowly began to turn as pale as you probably were. The Tree's trunk began to shift, wood and bark creaking as it moved, knots crinkling and a wide chasm shifting open as a massive elderly face set into the tree smiled down at you.

To all of your group's credit, none of you screamed as all your mouths dropped open.

Audibly, anyways.

Interlude: The Demon King and the Timestreamer
[X] The Demon King and the Timestreamer (Ganondorf and Moebius meeting)

Ancient wooden doors splintered, sending chunks of wood flying across the church floor and scattering pews as if they matchsticks. A massive shadowed fist retracted, disappearing into the darkness behind the singular man framed in the now ruined door, his hair as crimson as the gore coating his sword.

Yet the sole figure within the temple of time was unmoved, the elderly man staring down the approaching figure with one hand firmly gripping a serpent-wrapped staff. As the other man approached the elder warmly threw out a hand in greeting, smiling as if regarding an old friend, "You needn't have announced yourself so dramatically Ganondorf, all are welcome in this sanctuary to the gods. It's been a very long time, hasn't it?"

"I have no patience for your banter Moebius, you know why I've come here," Ganondorf snarled, stomping forward towards the elder, the grip on his sword tightening with every step.

The elder's expression shifted, glaring at the Gerudo male and when he spoke next any warmth had vanished, replaced with cold contempt, "Yes, the Princess and her precious Knight, you sought to spur prophecy into motion against me by luring the Yiga Assassin to the girl, knowing by their bound destiny the boy would save her and thus ensuring with a timely intervention from yourself they would have no quarrel with you," He then gestured to Ganondorf, his tone mocking, "Yet even in your delusions you saw the inconsistencies, their bound pieces of the Triforce and so you've come begging at my door for answers. How humiliating this must be for you."

Ganondorf scoffs, "I'll take some solace in the things I have discovered, knowledge I'm sure rankles you, Moebius. Or are you to tell me your power extends beyond the blessings of the Goddess of Time?"

"You know nothing, " Moebius responded, his voice a low growl, "You've read the signs but missed their meaning. You have no idea who or what those two are, or what they're capable of."

Ganondorf merely narrowed his eyes, "Perhaps, but I know what you're capable of Moebius. I'm sure the girl would love to hear of your involvement with the demons who attacked the castle, or why her mother refused to stay in the castle for long."

Moebius laughed, "Oh, that? Do you really think she wouldn't rationalize it away to justify being with her precious knight? Oren and Dorephan's intervention in that affair was wholly unnecessary. Bastard or not, she would still be a Zelda. Besides, do you really want her to dispel her ignorance? Or do you no longer care if they learn the blood moon, the Sage poisoning was all orchestrated by you."

Ganondorf simply smirked, "A paltry price to pay if it leads to no one else making the mistake of listening to your poisoned words," Dark shadows erupted from him, racing towards the purple-robed timestreamer in the shape of a massive clawed hand, "Now I do believe you were about to tell me what they are."

"Don't threaten me, Ganon," Moebius snarled, a flash of light coming from the crystal at the end of his staff. Instantly the shadows evaporated and Ganondorf fell, his hand clutching his chest as the air was ripped from his lungs and pain raced through his entire body, "Look at you, the Great Calamity of Hyrule writhing on the ground like any common monster."

The timestreamer kneeled down next to the writhing Gerudo, his voice an icy whisper, "Do you really believe I don't see what you're doing Ganondorf? Marching into this temple, playing the brute so that I may mockingly divulge one more piece of the puzzle you're trying to solve? I see all, Ganondorf. Your past life's experience with that witless lovesick girl should have told you that. You arrogantly believe that the empire and demons are mere desperate gambles in a vain hope to fill your refused role as the Calamity in their destiny, unaware of the Princess and Hero's true nature. That by being seen as a neutral party they will not follow their path?"

Moebius stood up, glaring down at the helpless king of evil, "Yet their predictable kindness spurs them on. Already they have secured the Twili orphan girl, and it will not be long until they claim the master sword and are joined by the Rito musician and your daughter," Moebius chuckles, "Consider it a gift Ganondorf, in honour of our history uniting the Gerudo clans. The runt you viewed with such contempt is one of the legendary Sages. She's finally of use to you."

Ganondorf didn't say a word, his hand slowly reaching out, brushing against his sword, Moebius's frown only deepened, "Still you struggle, no doubt even now arrogantly assuming you could still trick them into handing the Triforce to you. You always did underestimate their ability to defy any odds. I have not."

With one foot Moebius gingerly pushed Ganadorf's sword to his grasping hand which quickly tightened around it, even as pain still coursed through the Gerudo's body, "It is quite a shame I need you alive Ganondorf, no matter what they see you as, ally or villain. Perhaps when you finally escape from here, you'll have learned some humility and be a good pawn. When all is said and done, you may even thank me," Moebius turned, strolling towards the figure of the Empire's depiction of the fierce deity, "Oh, but do try and keep the casualties to a minimum. It's so difficult to find competent help nowadays, and Volga can't solve every problem that seems to crop up," Moebius looked back to Ganondorf, now rising to his feet, shaking slightly as strength returned to him, "But do what you must, the church could always use a few more martyrs..."

And with that, Moebius was gone.

Ganondorf turned, facing the ruined door as strength flooded back into his limbs as a chorus of shouts and the ring of alarms reached his ears. It took all his power to keep himself from bursting into laughter.

That witless old fool. The gambit had paid off, his words as heartening to Ganondorf as it would be to finally see the snake's mangled corpse.

Moebius had foolishly admitted he was not as omniscient as he wanted to appear, that he was just as blind to the pair's actions as Ganondorf had been countless times before. Predict them, yes, but anyone who had encountered those two could do that.

Moebius had given Ganondorf a shield, a way to check the records he knew was kept by his people. Filled with warped myths, but had the barest grains of truth he needed to finally have an edge.

A shield the Princess and Knight would so helpfully provide, after the encounter he engineered so long ago finally bears fruit.

"After all, the timing with them," Ganondorf grinned to himself as he thought just as armoured men rushed burst into the chamber and rushed at him with drawn weapons, "will always be perfect."

You are Link, and a giant tree just talked.

"Do not be afraid children," The tree warmly states to you, "None in this forest will harm you. In fact, we have watched over your progress for many years now. The Koroks have always been near you at my request, though I can see I yet remain a mystery to you. In ancient times, the inhabitants of this sacred land called me The Great Deku Tree. I have watched over Hyrule since time immemorial, waiting in these woods to aid those blessed by the Goddesses."

While you visibly can't tell if the Great Deku Tree is looking at you, you can feel it's gaze focus on you, "The sword you hold in your hands is a weapon of great power. The Blade of Evil's Bane, the Master Sword. Forged by the Goddess Hylia for her chosen Knight, you Link. With its power you may overcome any foe, dispel any darkness and save our land that has fallen into shadow. It is a truly fearsome sword."

It chuckles, as you notice a Korok scurry out from under its roots, carrying...

"Of course, even the most fearsome of blades requires a worthy scabbard."

It was a blue scabbard, covered in intricate golden designs. You numbly take it, attaching it to your back and with one smooth motion sheath this... Master Sword. It fits perfectly, the weight barely noticeable. Yet you feel a weight settle on you as if the magnitude of the task before you finally crystallized in front of your eyes.

"Ah, I see in your face you understand the true weight of what you carry. The worry in your heart that you do not have the strength for the task ahead of you. As the sword showed you, you do not need to face these challenges alone," It calmly said, and you notice your friends all look amongst themselves.

"The sword reflects its master and their friends, it's potential growth mirroring your own," The Great Deku Tree told your group, "Temper it and then seek out the sacred shrines made to its majesty. From them it will gain new abilities and grow in strength, just as you will."

None of you speak, an awkward silence falling over you and your friends as you glance at each other, yet you all jump when the Great Deku Tree addresses you all again, "I can see the doubt written in your faces. The questions running through your mind. Yet you do not need to tackle this monumental task at once. Even the smallest action you take brings you one step closer to saving Hyrule. Undoubtedly, you already know of those in danger or who just need a friendly face to see them through their struggles. I see the kindness in your hearts, how you don't wish to leave them in despair."

"Lon Lon Ranch..." Zelda whispered to herself, holding a hand to her chest.

"Wherever you go next, whenever you feel overwhelmed and the task before you seems too great you are always welcome to slip away and rest beneath my branches. You are always welcome here, the Sheikah Gate will always remain open. Oh, and Miss Irene?"

Every eye turned to Irene, who let out a sudden eep as she was addressed by the Great Deku Tree who chuckled kindly, "I know the question already bubbling to your mind. Yes, you are correct in your assumption. I will aid you as best I can, be it servant or teacher."

Irene lowered her hat, but not before you could see her face turn crimson as she mumbled a thank you.

A friendly Korok leads you to the Sheikah Gate located just off the side of the Great Deku Tree, an excited energy coursing through your group as you all made your way towards it. Some part of you wanted to stay and speak to the Great Deku Tree, to get answers to the thousand questions running through your mind. But Zelda seemed insistent on visiting Lon Lon Ranch, and with the Master Sword now in hand most of you just wanted to DO something. It was as if you'd drank a supercharged Enduring Elixir and you just had this energy you wanted to burn off even as the night became dawn and the intelligent part of your brain reminded you that you haven't slept.

Which lead to the predicament all of you realized. How are you going to get to Lon Lon Ranch, which was right in Hyrule Field? The answer was by Spirit Tracks, of course, but that didn't really hide the fact that you looked like a bunch of poor hobo's who inexplicably also had weapons that would make the old Royal Knights jealous.

So, which station should you travel too that would have the least prying eyes?

Yes, entirely based on Kain and Moebius's conversations. I am terribly unoriginal and a little unhappy with it. Now to bang my head against the new Nightwave challenges in Warframe.

[X] The Station by Kakariko Village

Though the Koroks were sad to see you go there was a feeling of relief as your group stepped into Kakariko, exhaustion pulling heavily at your eyelids.

Lack of sleep and healing from all your injuries was having such an effect on you all that for a moment none of you realized that Ceres and Impa were walking nearby, not until they suddenly turned towards you, their pace quickening as they noticed your bloodied clothes and armour.

"What happened?! Who attacked you?" Impa says, hurrying over to Paya and Zelda.

Seres followed, hand clapped over her mouth, "Oh no oh no I should have stayed!"

"We're all alright, some... things formed out of Keese just as you left but we fended them off," Zelda said as Impa inspected the tears in her and Paya's armour, forcing the two girls to stand by each other as she looked them over.

"I healed everyone's wounds, thankfully we reached the safety of the Korok's sanctum thanks to the effort of Proxi," Mipha adds, her cat-like eyes focusing on your hat.

You feel something shuffle out and a tiny voice squeak out, "H-hello!"

Both Seres's and Impa's eyes go wide, Seres slowly raising a hand to point as she gapes in shock, "F-fairy. That's a fairy."

"Yes? I... Wait, YOU CAN SEE ME TOO?!" Proxi shouts, her body erupting into a sphere of blue light as she shoots out from your hat, floating frantically around Seres who was watching the fairy with her mouth agape.

"Korok's... are in the lost woods?" Impa asks, for the first time in your life you can see genuine confusion on Impa's face.

"Yeah, turns out the entire forest is their home. They were protecting this sword-" You say, reaching back to grip the Master Swords hilt. As soon as your fingers brush against it both Seres and Impa's heads immediately snap to you, bewilderment on both their faces yet not an ounce of tension appeared in their body language.

"Uuuh, you both okay?" Irene asks, stepping forward past you.

Both of them nod slowly, uncertainty in their expressions as Impa says rather curtly, "We're fine. But... What magic is that?"

When she see's all your confused expressions Seres quickly adds in, "When you touched that sword, I... well we both felt..." She scratches her cheek, brow furrowing as she seem to be lost in thought, "Well, the only way I can describe it is stepping into a nice bath, with a lovely perfume and then... eating a hearty breakfast? It is oddly soothing but energizing. Right?" She asks, looking over to Impa who nods.

"That's... Huh..." You say, drawing forth the master sword, it's blade alight with a faint glow you knew wasn't a reflection from the sun above you, "It's called the Master Sword. The Korok's and their... Elder, a being called the Great Deku Tree, they said it was forged by the Goddess to combat evil," You explain, holding the sword out to let the two older women examine it.

"The Goddess... Made this?" Impa asks quietly, awe in her voice for a moment before she composes herself.

Seres, however, kept staring at it, a small hand covering her mouth as she whispered, "Father... Father must see this..."

"I'd love to see what your father will make of it, but we'll be leaving in the morning," You say, "None of us have slept either, and recovering from our wounds has exhausted us all."

Seres looks a little disappointed, but nods in understanding, "I will take care of your damaged armour then, are we finished with the wards Impa?" She asks, looking over to Impa who nods.

"Wards? Actually yeah what are you guys doing this far away from the village?" Irene asks, "Shouldn't you be resting after moving here, getting acquainted or something?"

Seres chuckles a little at that, giving Irene a warm smile, "Well, I can't just sit still knowing you're out there saving people. Impa explained to me how the village is undermanned and considering it'd be a wonderful experience to spend time with an old friend I decided to aid the village by setting up spiritual wards," She looks over to Impa who you see actually smile slightly and nod, "They'll also make a wonderful teaching aid for when you have time for lessons, Paya."

Paya starts, her crimson eyes staring at Seres with utter shock, "R-really?"

Seres nods, "Of course, you wished to learn more about spirit magic yes? I'd be a poor teacher if I didn't start preparing lessons as soon as possible!"

Paya doesn't reply, lowering her head as her ears and face go crimson but as you all walk back to the mansion you could see an excitement building in her you'd never in the Sheikah girl before. By the time you reached the mansion, you couldn't take your eyes off how much taller she was standing...

After a quick meal everyone retired to their rooms, too tired to do anything other than pass out into bed. Proxi had went with Zelda and Paya, the two of them had come together to create a bed for her out of a jewellery box and spare bits of cloth lying around. As you were all passing out early Seres went to assist her father unpack his massive collection of books, while Impa disappeared to take care of her other duties.

Yet just as your eyes closed you hear a knock at your door as Impa's muffled voice carries through, "Link? Are you awake? May we speak for a moment?"

Unsure of what Impa wanted to speak to you about you get up, vaguely noting that the sun had only just now drifted past the mountains that surrounded Kakariko and slide open the door, revealing Impa still in her guard outfit, "Sure, is something the matter?"

"No," Impa says, stepping into the room. She pauses for a moment as if wrestling for something for a moment before finally sighing and saying "Yes. Her Majesty told me about where you'll be heading next."

You quirk an eyebrow, "To Lon Lon Ranch? Is there some danger there, are they enemies?" You ask, did Impa know something you didn't?

"I haven't the faintest idea, it has been eight long years since I've heard any word of them," She states, not looking you in the eyes. You'd never seen the Sheikah Warrior look so uncomfortable before, normally she was curt and to the point but it seemed like she was actively avoiding whatever point she wanted to reach, "It's... It is regarding the plan to bring the owners of Lon Lon Ranch to the Village if they are still loyal to the Royal Family."

"Is there not enough space? We can try to secure some lumber and materials if we need to-" You begin, but Impa shakes her head.

"No there is plenty of room in the manor. It is just..." She raises a hand, grimacing as if swallowing some bitter medicine before letting her hand drop to her side, "Morale in the village is very low. While we all support your quest it has been... difficult for many to see the toll it inflicts on you all when you return. With the..." She pauses again, and for a moment you see her face contort in rage, her voice barely containing a growl, "What happened with Paya shook the entire village. Then Maple, what happened with the Great Fairy and now it seems Seres narrowly avoided sharing a similar fate. Even with the ancient Nexus they fear the village may be the last refuge of all those still loyal to her Majesty."

"I understand it must be difficult, is there something we can do to convince them that we're building ourselves back up, becoming stronger so we can-" You stop, noticing Impa looking away with a grimace and finally it clicks onto you what Impa meant, "Oh. Oh."

"You must understand their view, we're so few in number. As we are now... The Sheikah will die out in a few generations," She quietly says, "Our culture, language, everything is slowly slipping away. We've always been insular, secretive to protect what we are, who we are and many think it's the only way to preserve some remnant of us."

Impa reaches up, and for a moment you think she will push a bang out of her face. Instead, she brushes her fingers against her tattoo's, her gaze distant as she speaks, "Before Queen Tetra became Queen, Sheikah were forbidden to name themselves with Sheikah names, only Hylian names. When Lady Zelda was born, I think... many of my people felt they could step out from the shadows our people are named after. Too many... we didn't exist. I remember so many asking if I was an Albino playmate for Lady Zelda and not her sworn protector. But as Queen Tetra wore Sheikah garb and spoke of our culture we felt we didn't need to hide. Yet now... the old fear has returned, even as you all fight to give us hope. With so few of us... there is the fear even in our ancestral home we will slowly vanish, unless we return to how we were."

"I..." You begin, struggling to find words, "I don't know what to say..."

Impa nods, giving you a small smile, "It's alright, this is a... difficult topic to drop on you when your lives are so regularly in danger. But... I think you may have found a solution. Mina, the girl you brought here. If you could find more like her, those of Sheikah descent living out in Hyrule perhaps we can save my people from extinction, perhaps with an outside perspective even allow us to... adapt to weather the coming dangers. As word of your deeds grow, perhaps you may even pull those lost to those fears away from the Yiga who seek to exploit them," She tells you, and you can see this building hope in her eyes, how much this means to her slipping through the crack in her normally stoic facade.

You nod, "Of course, and if we find any bits of lost Sheikah history in the ruins we explore we'll bring it here as well, to help ease everyone's fears."

"Thank you," Impa says, as she walks to the door, "I'll prepare the stables as best I can. Please, be safe in your journey."

And with that, she exits the room and closes the sliding door behind you, leaving you alone.

X 80,000

10,000 Rupees lighter you all gained passage with the spirit tracks at the crack of dawn, a bleary-eyed guard barely giving you a glance as you all stepped on. It was far more empty now, with only a small herd of pigs and a couple of farmers with you. It seemed once the glamour wore off the relatively isolated track became solely used by farmers which the Empire had evidently cared less about heavily guarding.

The station you got off at close to the ranch, however, seemed to have far more noticeable guard presence, yet the number of actual Imperial uniforms seemed low. Most seemed to be wearing uniforms none of you recognized, which also seemed to remind you a bit of the more personalized uniforms you'd seen in the Zora Domain, suggesting that it was some local lords men alleviating the costs of providing security for the empire.

As you directed your horses up the dirt road leading from the station into the farmland that surrounded it and with some quick checking of the signs it wasn't long until your wagon slowly trudged up the path to Lon Lon Ranch.

The first thing you notice was the sign that proudly proclaimed the name of the ranch seemed to have had better days, it was essentially being held up by splinters and the paint had faded. As you looked past it to the buildings in the ranch and the manor home it seemed the sign was certainly indicative of the rest of the ranch. Certainly, some work seemed to have been done to maintain Manor home, a two-story building of Wattle and Daub construction with a shingled roof that while larger then most homes wasn't particularly grand compared to even Zelda's manor, even if it was larger then many homes you'd seen. The work that was done seemed patchwork, little more than wooden boards nailed down to hold down loose shingles or paint that was only half-applied. The barn was in far more disrepair, paint peeling from the structure and very noticeable holes in the roof. There was what looked like another building, though you could not make out if there were any more or many details of the home.

It was certainly occupied however, you could see Cucco's meandering about along the road, pecking at bugs and just barely if you squinted you could see cows sitting in the fields.

Despite actively looking for people though it took you a moment to notice there was someone sitting on a crate in front of the gate. As your horses and the wagon approached you quickly realized it was a young Hylian girl, maybe ten to eleven years old with long auburn hair and large blue eyes. She was wearing a white dress that reached down to her ankles with blue designs on the hem and sleeves, two leather boot clad feet hanging a fair few inches from the ground. A yellow shawl covered her shoulders, an intricate broach featuring some dragon creature clasping it in the front.

Not wanting to scare the girl with a bunch of heavily armed strangers approaching you and Zelda got off your horses while the others stayed back, doing your best not to look threatening. As you approached you couldn't help feel an odd sense of deja-vu from this girl as if you'd seen her before. Which was frankly impossible, yet even so the image of this same girl, brushing a young and very familiar foal singing softly to herself conjured itself up in your mind.

This girl was not singing, however, in fact, she didn't seem to acknowledge your presence at all and kept staring ahead.

Zelda, having the most experience with young children walked up first, "Hello there, my name is Sheik and I hope we're not scaring you. We're travellers hoping to speak with the owner of this ranch. Do you know where your parents are?"

The girl doesn't respond, continuing to stare ahead and a terrible sense of unease fell over you, one that was not lifted when you looked to confirm that yes, the girl was still breathing.

Zelda looked absolutely worried though, and she slowly reached a hand out to tap the girl on the shoulder. The girl's head lolled slightly, her hair falling in front of her face as her glazed unfocused eyes continued to stare ahead, unaware of anything around her.

A gasp came from behind you, and you turned to see Paya standing in front of her girl, hands covering her mouth as tears slowly fell from her wide eyes, her gasp of shock quickly turning into a sob. The realization hit you, and from the dawning look of utter horror on Zelda's face she'd reached the same conclusion you had.

This girl was just like Zelda as she was after the attack on Hyrule castle.

You shout to the others, waving them over, "Irene! Mipha! This girl needs help, ANY help you can give her!"

They rushed over and quickly knelt next to the non-responsive girl as Paya fell to her knees, Zelda's arms wrapped around her as they both stared at the girl as what must be horrific memories played out in both their minds.

You stepped back, pulling off your hat to run your hand through your hair as Proxi hopped down onto your shoulder, not saying anything as she watched what was happening, a small hand pressed against your cheek that slowly clenched into a shaking fist, a little voice whispering "What... what happened to this girl?"

You needed to do something, you had the legendary sword of evil's bane! You were a god! Surely you could help this girl? But... all your power was destructive... there had to be something any- OOF

You catch yourself as you're nearly bowled over by Epona, who rushed past you into the farm. So shocked by that you could only stare slack-jawed at her retreating form before you took off after the disappearing mare, pulling your hat back over your head as Proxi returned to hiding under it. What had possibly gotten into her? Epona could act wild sometimes with those other than you but in a serious situation, she was as calm as a seasoned warrior and more than willing to charge into even the vilest monsters. She never just... ran off- Is that singing?

You stop for a moment, listening. It was an... oddly soothing melody and one that seemed so familiar for some reason. A part of you wanted to stay and listen as worries slowly melted away, a warm reassurance building in your chest as you closed your eyes for only a moment to enjoy it before you took off, following your horse until she slowed and began to slowly trot up to a laundry line from which hung several soaking wet sheets.

The source of the melody became clear as you noticed a young woman with her back turned to you, reaching up to pin another sheet to the clothesline. Like the girl out front, she had long auburn hair that glowed like fire in the mid-morning light and was wearing a white shirt that seemed to have the same blue designs on the sleeves and the same yellow shawl that you suspected had the same broach even if you couldn't see it from where you were standing. A long pinkish-purple skirt reached down from her waist and you could just make out a brown apron at her front, tied at the waist with a leather belt. Seemingly unaware of the approaching horse she finished attaching the sheet to the clothesline and, carefully avoiding tripping over Cuckoo that darted past with her well-worn leather boots, bent down to grab another sheet. Just as you realized where this had drawn your eyes Epona let out a snort, and the young women jolted upright with an "EEP!" turning to face Epona and giving you the first look at her face.
She looked to be around your and Zelda's ages and was almost definitely the older sister of the girl out front. She also looked exhausted, with deep bags under her eyes that suggested she hadn't slept well in days. Yet the moment she saw Epona all traces of exhaustion seemed to disappear, her crystal clear blue eyes widening as she froze. Epona stood in front of her, not making any sudden movements as the young women reached a hand out to Epona's snout, her voice carrying on the wind to you as she whispered "It can't be... It can't be..." But as she pressed her hand against the warhorse Epona began to nuzzle the young women, and with tears in her eyes she hugged your horse's head, sobbing as she whispered: "You've grown, you've grown so much Epona...!"
You give the women a moment, even as question burned in your mind before you step forward. She finally notices you, leaping back from Epona as you watch her eyes flick over to a pitchfork leaning against the wall of the barn.

But then all tension seems to vanish as she starts to look you up and down, a breath seemingly catching in her throat as she holds a hand up to her chest. You raise a hand, a little confused by her sudden change in demeanour to you, "Hi, sorry my horse ran over here. I hope she hasn't been any trouble."

"No no it's fi- W-wait, you own Epona?!" The girl shouts, looking between you and Epona in alarm.

You laugh, rubbing the back of your neck, "Yeah, we've been through a lot. I... take it you know her from somewhere?"

She smiles slightly, lost in a memory for a moment as she quietly says, "Yes..." She then starts as if forgetting something, "Oh! I'm Malon. Welcome to the Lon Lon Ranch Sir...?" She asks, while for some reason trying (and failing) to subtly straighten out her clothes and brush off any dirt.

"Link, and thank you," You respond, walking up to Epona's side and placing a hand on your mare's side.

"Link," She repeats, looking you up and down again, "Forgive me for asking, but seeing as how armed you are by any chance are you a knight?" Malon asks, very obviously putting on an accent that seemed oddly similar to Zelda's but one that Malon seemed really unfamiliar with but didn't disguise at all the curious excitement coming from her.

"Yes, I am," You respond immediately, before cursing yourself. That was a statement with a lot of uncomfortable questions surrounding it.

Malon did not seem to notice, as she turned away from you, practically bouncing up and down on the spot as she appeared to shove a fist into her mouth before she turned back around, trying and failing to keep herself composed, "Well, Sir Link! If you are willing you're welcome to rest here before you head off. We have plenty of spare beds for you and a stall for Epona, you're also welcome to try our world-famous Lon Lon Milk, free of charge!"

Suddenly you suspect Malon, Paya and Zelda all have similar interests. You also have a lot of questions, so what should you ask?

Questions, ask more than one or two:
[] You have a wonderful voice, who taught you to sing?
[] Are you alright? You seem exhausted.
[] Did a storm come through here?
[] Is there anyone else here?
[] We... ran into your sister. What happened?
[] What's the story with you and Epona?
[] Tell me more about Lon Lon Milk.
[] Write-in

Been SUPER busy but finally got this done.

[X] You have a wonderful voice, who taught you to sing?

Malon's ears and face turned a bright shade of crimson, as she looked away, mumbling as she twirled a strand of hair between her fingers, "My mother taught me before she passed away, it really isn't that great. I mean unless you think it is... being in a noble court and doing knight things you must hear a lot of bards and know a lot of singing and-"

Maaaybe you should change the subject, Malon was beginning to ramble.

[X] What's the story with you and Epona?
[X] ...What kind of books do you like?

"So how do you know Epona?" You ask, leaning up against a fence post.

Malon stopped rambling, going silent as she inclined her head with a distant expression, a slow smile creeping onto her face, "Oh. Well... She was born here."

That takes you aback. This is where Epona was born?

Malon doesn't seem to notice your shock, walking up to the mare and gently stroking her head, "Lon Lon Ranch wasn't always known for its milk. We used to raise horses for the Knights of Hyrule and the royal family here, the greatest horses in Hyrule. I was too young to know what happened to all of them, father always seemed so angry about it though he always said, 'when the Princess takes the throne go to the Sheikah Malon, with their help the ranch will be known for their horses again!' Course, that was before..." Malon trails off, pausing in her stroking of Epona's mane as her expression falls. You notice that her accent shifted to a more rural one you'd heard among the Hylian farmers in Ordon, her natural accent, "Anyways, Epona was the last foal of that line. She had such an attitude, no one could approach her. Except well... me..."

Epona snorts slightly as she leaned into Malon's hands as Malon began to hum softly for a moment, lost in her memories, "Then one day, this duke shows up with his son in tow. As father and the duke went to discuss things I remember the boy, dressed in fine clothes just... sitting there. Never saw someone so... sad looking before. Ha, this must sound silly to you Sir Link!" Malon chuckles, looking back to you with a smile.

You didn't find it silly at all, and softly you ask, "What was the boy sad about?"

Malon's smile falters, and she looks back to Epona, "He... told me he won't be able to see his friend and mom again. He talked about how his friend lost her mom too and he wanted to cheer her up. I remember pulling the boy up by his arm and dragging him off, scolding him about how could he cheer his friend up if he was sad too? Then well, I made him play with me. I know, I know, but I was a little kid at the time..."

You laugh, "Don't beat yourself up over it, seems like you were the intervention he needed. So what happened next?"

Malon's smile goes wide, and with a laugh she continues, "Well, we played together for hours and then well, one thing lead to another and we ended up at the stables. Epona was getting restless and I wanted to show her off. Ha! I wish I had a mirror to see my face when the boy walked right up to her and started petting her. All the people Epona seemed to hate and just... this boy she had an instant connection with."

Malon let's out a long wistful sigh, "I was... sad when it lead to my new friend and Epona leaving together. I mean, part of me was glad the boy would have something to keep him company but... part of me now... nevermind, it's nothing."

"What'd this boy look like?"

"Oh... it's been forever Sir Link, I can scarcely remember," Malon tells you, going back to focusing on Epona, "Blonde hair, really blue... eyes..." She trails off, freezing suddenly in place as you almost see her mentally put things together. Slowly she turns to look at you, her blue eyes as wide as saucers as she stared at you.

"You know, I'd say this was almost out of a book but now that you've jogged my memory I think I remember your idea of cheering me up involved us charging a mudfort with an army of cuccos, you tackling me to avoid "cannon fire" and us being chewed out by our parents when they found us," You tease your apparent long lost friend with a smirk.

Sadly, she doesn't seem to be as amused by the coincidental meeting as you were, as she just dumbly nods as a blush spreads from her cheeks to her ears as she mumbles "Yes... just like... book..."

Oh... Yeah, Malon and Zelda definitely have exactly the same tastes in books.

[X] We... ran into your sister. What happened?

You sigh as you recall why you are here and what you'd encountered before meeting Malon, "I wish our reunion could be under more pleasant circumstances, but... there are reasons I'm here and people I need to help."

She doesn't seem shocked or taken aback when you say this, instead Malon gives you a sad smile, any joy or embarrassment from your chance reunion vanishing in an instant, "You don't have to explain, I can see it in your eyes. A proper knight... or... I guess Lord couldn't let that stand."

"What happened?"

Malon looks away, eyes shut tight and fist clenched as she quietly says, "I... I don't know. One day..." Malon takes a shuddering breath, "One day Romani never came home. I looked and looked but couldn't find her. I was so worried a-and then..." She holds back a sob, "S-she was just lying in the field, face down and all scratched up and no matter how many times I cried her name she wouldn't respond... I..." Tears were falling now, fast and heavy as Malon tightly gripped her arm with her other hand, "I-I don't know what to do! Sometimes she just starts screaming and I can't do anything! W-what kind of sister am I that I can't help her? I was supposed to protect her and now she-"

She jumps slightly as you put a hand on her shoulder, and Malon suddenly looks up to you with bloodshot eyes. It strikes you then how exhausted she looks, how pained and utterly defeated the girl in front of you is. What will held Malon together finally breaks and she practically collapses into your arms, sobbing and clinging to you as though you were the first sure sign of comfort and reassurance Malon had experienced in a long, long time.

Some part of you realized that probably was true.

"Malon," You say, your voice soft and calm, "We'll help cure your sister. One of my friends, she... she suffered a similar affliction in her youth and now she's fully recovered. Whatever it takes we'll help you."

Malon pulls away, sniffling and rubbing her eyes, her face red, "T-thank you. I... Sorry for just breaking down... you've just been the first person in so long too..." She then whirls on you, eyes wide, "Wait! Someone had the same- We? There's more of you? And they got better?!"

You nod, "Yeah, in fact it sounds like she's coming over here now," You tell Malon as you hear a familiar voice call out your name as the familiar form of Zelda comes into view, her face uncovered as she scans for your presence before spotting you and making a beeline over to the two of you.

"Ah! There you are Link! And you must be the girl's sister," Zelda says as she walks up to both of you, "I see you've met my companion. I'm not sure how much he's explained, but we've heard you're in need and come to aid you. My name is Shei-"

"P-P-P-PRINCESS ZELDA?!" Malon screamed, pointing a finger at the ruby-eyed princess who froze midsentence, utterly stunned.

"Uhm, perhaps we should speak of this out of any potential earshot?" You offer, as the farm girl whirls on you, her face twisted into mix of different emotions; Shock, disbelief, confusion and something that caught you completely off guard.

Hope.

"Princess Mipha. THE Princess Mipha," Malon numbly said, looking towards the Zora Princess.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss Malon," Mipha responds, giving a small curtsy, "Thank you for having us in your home."

She then numbly pointed to Paya, who was hiding behind Zelda, "A Sheikah, a real live Sheikah."

Paya shyly gave a small wave, before with what seemed a great deal of effort managed to stutter out, "H-h-hello."

Malon then looked towards Irene, who was standing with her hands on her hips, "Witch. An actual Maple-like Witch."

Irene puffs her chest out, chin held high, "That's because Maple was my Grandmother AND I'm her star pupil!"

She then looks down towards the small figure of Proxi on the table, who was chewing on a dried strawberry, "F-fairy."

"HI! I'M PROXI!" Was the cheerful response.

This proved to be the final straw for Malon's composure as she slumped on the table, head held in her hands, "Oh my gods, this is happening. This is real..."

"Would this be a bad time to mention there's one more of us?" Irene whispered to you out of the corner of her mouth.

"As amusing as it would be, I believe you want this girl functional?" Came the whispered reply from your shadow.

"Uh, how are you able to tell who we are?" Zelda asks, before she mumbles, "I thought my disguise was quite good..."

Malon, muffled by her hands, tonelessly replies "I went to the castle once and remembered your hair and eyes, and you look just like the que- your mom your majesty I am saying your majesty to the actual LIVING Princess Zelda-"

Zelda blinks a few times, before slumping back in her chair, "Aaaaaaaagh! Don't tell me I have to keep my mask on more now!"

"Uhm, what about me?" Mipha asks, "I mean, red scales aren't that uncommon-"

"Trident... Isn't that your brother's?" Malon says, looking up from the table, a single blue eye visible.

"Ooooooh... right," Mipha responds, looking over at her Trident, "...We are REALLY bad at being undercover, aren't we?"

"I don't stand out," You say, trying and failing to hide your grin, "I'd have to take off these clothes to actually turn heads!"

Malon immediately shoots up straight, "Take off- I mean this is all really overwhelming. All of you together... Why? Why come here?"

"We're here to get you and your sister to safety, in Kakariko village," Zelda says, her expression turning serious, "Your family was always loyal to mine and with recent events... I feared terrible things will come to you. Though I must admit we have less altruistic motives. We're barely clinging on, and need a Non-Sheikah to gather supplies while we're on expeditions to find sacred relics, allies and undo the curses that have befallen Hyrule. With few friends... you're our only hope."

Malon nods, her expression unreadable as she asks, "And... you had what my sister has?"

Zelda closes her eyes, taking a deep breath before nodding, "Yes... After... after the castle. It took... many painful years. But we've gathered many powerful friends who can help your sister in ways I didn't have. She doesn't... I won't let her suffer like I did."

Malon looked taken aback at the conviction in Zelda's voice, just as a tiny hand began pulling on her sleeve. "You don't have to worry! These people know Navi, the Great Fairy Queen of Nayru! I don't know exactly what your sister has, but us fairies... we know the perfect ways to help people and Navi will cure her!"

Malon stared at Proxi for a moment, tears welling up in her eyes before she reached up past her forehead and ran her hand nervously through her bangs, saying through the tears, "I... I don't know what to say. This is all so much... Of course I'll help you all. Just give me the word and I'll start packing, I'm good with a pitchfork so maybe I can-"

"Actually, do you know of any nearby Sheikah ruins? We might be able to speed things along," Zelda interjected, "You see, there are Sheikah ruins capable of opening gateways to different locations. We have one in Kakariko village, so we could easily take you there. They look like gateways or arches-"

"You mean like that big archway in the middle of the pasture?" Malon asked, jerking her head towards the window.

There was a pause, followed by a scrapping of several chairs as you all rushed to the window to peer out, squeezing together to try and get a glimpse. Sure enough, you could see a Sheikah Gateway surrounded by cows out in the middle of the pasture. The very, very open pasture.

"Well... it's close by atleast," Mipha said, looking down to you and Zelda.

"Yeah, but everyone and their mother could see us turn that thing on. I don't think those dozens of guards patrolling the roads are going to ignore a big blue glowing hole opening up," Irene said as she walked back to her chair.

"Come now Irene, we'll just do it at night. What are the chances people are watching this ranch in particular?" Zelda asked, looking back to Malon. Only to slump as Malon shook her head.

"No, I am being watched. I wouldn't doubt there's going to be even more eyes on me now that you all showed up..." Malon quietly said, hanging her head, "We can't escape..."

"What if we waited for when visibility was non-existent? Sure it might take time to get all the animals through the gateway, but no one's going to keep a close eye on this ranch in a thunderstorm," You say, keenly remembering just how devastating a Hyrule thunderstorm is. While lightning can be drawn away and grounded by most buildings it wasn't at all rare to find a shed or tree reduced to a singed crater from an unlucky lightning strike. You weren't sure if you'd read it somewhere but apparently, Hyrule was one of the only places in the known world with thunderstorms that devastating.

Malon expression brightened immediately, her eyes practically sparkling "That'd work perfectly! Link's also the only guy among the five of you so they probably won't get suspicious!"

Wait... why is you being a guy an issue with who's watching her-

"Bad news though," Zelda says as she whips out her Sheikah Slate, "It doesn't look like it's going to rain for at least a couple days, though I have no proper way to tell the weather for the whole week."

Malon waved a hand, "Psh, a few days isn't that long to wait for guaranteed freedom, especially if you five will stay."

Zelda scratched her chin awkwardly, "A-actually, there's six of us."

Malon blinked, "Six?"

With a sigh you shuttered the window, plunging the room into shadows. Almost immediately the eye-catching form of Midna emerged from your shadow, reclining with a hand under her chin as she looked Malon up and down with half-lidded eyes. Malon, of course, shot up from her seat at Midna's appearance and pointing at her screamed "AAAAAH! HALF-NAKED DEMON GIRL!!"

Zelda jumped in front of Malon, frantically waving her arms "WAIT! She's a friend! Her name is Midna and she'll be helping us-"

"I am NOT pretending to be a farmer. I have atleast SOME dignity," Midna cooly replied, eyes narrowed.

"...Have you ever actually been on a farm before?" You ask.

Midna bristles, a slight blush creeping into her face, "No! My people had no need for enslaving animals to do our bidding!"

Malon, with wide-eyes and a disbelieving expression, slowly looks over to Zelda, "I... I need to be honest with you, your Majesty. I never imagined meeting you would be this weird and involve this many people wearing so little."

Mipha just looks confused, "I don't understand, why are you calling that out specifically?"

Malon claps a hand over her mouth, "Oh! Was that offensive? I didn't mean-"

"Alright, alright let's focus!" You shout, stepping into the middle of everyone, "We need to keep this place running and not raise suspicion. Let's figure out what needs to be done and begin to settle in. I'm sure Miss Malon could use a couple of hours to process everything."

There was muttered agreement, and slowly everyone paired off leaving you alone. Paya and Midna were chatting in a corner, or rather Midna was speaking and a slightly intimidated Paya was nodding along. Mipha and Irene had brought in all your belongings after stabling the horses and seemed to be just resting and occasionally chatting while drinking from water skins. Zelda seemed to be regaling Malon with tales of your adventure, Malon just numbly nodding along. Romani... Romani was just sitting in a corner, Malon constantly looking over to her. Proxi was in your hat, you weren't sure if she was hiding or just napping. Probably napping.

Is there anyone you wished to speak too?

[X] Zelda and Malon

"So the Big Octo slammed down its-" Zelda says, demonstrating with a wave of her arm as you take a seat across from the two young women, Malon side-eying you with her jaw hanging open in a mix of wonder and awe.

"Telling Malon how we met Mipha?" You ask, to which Zelda pauses in her story to give you an enthusiastic nod.

"I'm letting her know our capabilities so she can properly best decide how to use us on her ranch," Zelda explains, looking over to Malon who just slowly nods. Though Zelda's brow furrows slightly, "Though, we don't yet know all your troubles Malon. Please, if it's not much trouble perhaps you may enlighten us?"

Malon stares for a second, before starting as the question finally registers with her, "Right! Right. My problems, " She reaches up to scratch the back of her head through her voluminous red hair, clearly trying to come up with a way to describe them, "Well, with just me the cows need to be milked, and they all need food but I'm out of rupees, I'd ask for some help getting some ranch hands but-"

"Wait, you're broke?" You ask, taken aback, "How are you feeding yourselves?"

Malon slumps slightly, her exhaustion all the more apparent, "Eggs and milk aren't so bad, and my teeth haven't fallen out yet so I've still got time."

"No!" Zelda exclaims, grabbing Malon by the hands and holding them tightly, making the redhead jump in shock, "We'll get you everything you and your sister need tomorrow! I promise you, we'll do everything in our power to make sure the both of you are healthy!"

Malon stares at Zelda for a few seconds, before she gives Zelda a sad smile and nods. Malon then frowns, looking towards the table with a furrowed brow and with venom in her voice, "If the Gorman brothers don't stop us anyways..."

"Gorman brothers?" You ask, leaning forward with your arms on the table.

"The local lords, a pair of brothers the Empire gave control over the region too," Malon spat, hands shaking slightly as she balled them into fists, "They want the ranch and... and...me,"

Immediately both your and Zelda's expressions turn serious, and you ask, "Will they try a hostile takeover? We can keep you and your sister safe, but we'll need to know if we should be on the lookout for them."

Malon suddenly looks towards your weapons, a mix of emotions crossing over her face before she shakes her head, "No... I don't think so. I..." She struggles for a moment, looking as though she wanted to ask something but was dreading the answer as she stared at your weapons before she shook her head and composed herself, "They'll make things difficult though. They've spread such... horrible rumours about us and made me unable to sell our milk or eggs. No one... There isn't a single person in town who'd help us for free, anyone who would left or was evicted long ago. Some may be sympathetic but..." She pauses, looking over to Romani who was still staring into space, "I haven't left the ranch in weeks."

"Will you need to be in person to make purchases? Not to think less of the villagers, but if things would be easier..." Zelda trails off as Malon shakes her head.

"You've really been away from the empire huh? No, the Empire requires a ludicrous amount of paperwork or they'll take away everything. I only have the ranch because the Emperor grandfathered our land ownership in and the Gorman's are too stupid to directly challenge it," Malon sighs, "Not that it matters, it'll take a ludicrous amount of rupees just to feed everyone for a week. Tens of thousands. Linkle went off to find treasure to help pay for everything, but she hasn't come back..."

"Linkle?" You ask, to which Malon sighs.

"You know that other house? That's her's. Technically, she owns all the Cucco's but she's been a friend for years so she won't mind us taking them," Malon explains.

"Could she be in danger? Should we try and get word?" Zelda asks, looking concerned but Malon shakes her head.

"I... think she's fine. Linkle is absurdly good with her crossbows. I've seen her wipe out groups of Bokoblins by herself, and she has a small flock of Cucco's with her. She's just... not so great at directions," Malon says, though you shudder a bit at the implication of a small flock of guard cuccos. Cucco's were cowardly creatures, even the slightest sound would make them explode into a mass of feathers and maybe drop a few eggs. But actually attack one and you'll learn to regret it. Cucco's could regenerate and while mostly this meant they were an endless source of feathers no one was prepared for when a Cucco cleaved in half suddenly sprouted new legs almost instantly. Continue to attack it and suddenly the whole flock will charge at you, their beaks and talons able to slice through steel. Cucco's were also strong and while their size and poorly adapted wings meant they couldn't carry you off it was a known past time for certain daredevils to pick up a cucco and leap off a cliff, the cucco slowly carrying the daredevil to the ground. Anyone with an affinity with the creatures would be well protected.

"Well, we'll keep an eye out for her AND we can solve your rupee problem. We have quite the amount of rupees on us," Zelda said, pulling out a small handful of gold Rupees which Malon stared at in wonder.

"Wow... I mean I should have expected with you being a Princess and all but this... Goddesses we might be set!" Malon exclaimed, looking between the two of you excitedly.

"We actually got it by killing some Skulltula's," You say, leaning back in your chair as Malon's excitement turned into sputtering amazement.

"I- WOW. I feel bad for any of the Gorman's men that try to mess with us! Well not really but... Yeah, yeah we can do this!"

"I'd like to avoid getting into a fight with these Gorman's men," You say, drawing the Master Sword and setting it on the table, the blue glowing lighting up Malon's face, her and Zelda's widening eyes sparkling like gemstones as they caught its light, "But how would they react to obviously magical equipment? Or just us as armed as we are? Last thing we want is you having to dodge musket fire."

"Hey, don't think I'm helpless! Sure a pitchfork isn't a great weapon but I can stick a Bokoblin good!" Malon retorts, puffing out her chest before she pauses, "Actually... I think father's old musket might come in handy. It's a family heirloom over a century old, but it once belonged to the Royal Guard. No armour or swords though, I don't know what happened to them and definitely no powder or ammo."

Zelda's jaw drops, and you suspect you have a similar expression, "You have a Royal Musket?! That's incredible-" Zelda stops, her brow furrowing, "Wait, no this was THE place horses for the Royal Guard and my family were bred, the knights BECAME knights here. There should be lances, armour, swords... this doesn't make any sense."

Malon looks just as perturbed, "Yeah I was told that all my life but... I mean I told Link Epona was the last horse we had but I was a small child then. Whatever happened before that I don't think I can remember. Maybe they all died of a plague?"

"But why wouldn't my father replace them? Did..." Zelda pauses, "Sorry I must ask, how many barns did you have? Even while you were so young that must be still clear in your mind Malon."

"We only ever had the one-" Malon stops, eyes widening as realization dawned on her, "How were we breeding horses with only the cattle barn?"

"Sahasrahla would know, wouldn't he?" You ask, "Didn't he say he was part of the royal court? He also seems quite knowledgable."

Zelda nods, "Yes, if there's anyone alive who knows it'd be him."

"And I assume I'm not going to get answers until we leave," Malon sighs, "You guys sure like raising more questions than answers about everything."

"You have no idea," Zelda says, glancing over to you, "I think the one thing that I've learned over the course of this journey is that I know far less about how our world works than I ever could have imagined."

You shrug, "I'm just taking things day by day and hoping for the best, seems to have worked out so far."

"Think I'll have to follow along with that plan," Malon says with another sigh, pushing herself up as her chair scraped against the floor, "I should start making dinner."

"I'll help," You say, pushing yourself up as well and Malon gives you a smile and nod as she turns towards the kitchen. You make to follow her, sheathing the Master Sword but something makes you pause. Romani, who had been almost completely immobile, had turned her head towards you- no, towards the Master Sword. Her eyes were still unfocused and you watched her head began to droop again. Momentarily stopping by her did nothing leaving you wondering just what had happened, your mind lingering on Romani as you walked off to help Malon.

Working beside Malon preparing dinner was a quick affair. She wasn't kidding when she said that all she and Romani were living off of was eggs and milk, and what she had was stretched to the absolute limits just to feed you all, the promise that you'll get food tomorrow the only thing that gave you any solace as you watched Malon stare at her now completely empty pantry with an empty expression. While cooking though she became much more animated, seemingly finding your presence very distracting as she turned away from you with a beet red face as the two of you worked side by side to put the meagre offerings on to plates.

As you all took your seats at the table, even Midna joining you, you sat at the end of the table across from Zelda, Irene and Paya. Mipha and Midna beside you as Malon seated Romani at the head of the table, sitting next to her. As you all began to eat for a moment none of you paid any heed to what was about to happen, not until you heard Malon whispering to herself as the others slowly stopped and turned to stare at the two sisters. A mixture of emotions stretched over your friends faces, even Midna adopting a hard expression, her hand clenching into a fist as she watched with the others.

"Come on Romani, eat," Malon whispered softly, trying to make her sister swallow a bit of the scrambled eggs she had spoonfed Romani, even as it dripped from her sister's slack mouth down her chin.

"Please, just eat. Please," The farm girl pleaded, her sister not responding, "I'll clean up the mess on your chin... there. Everything's better, right?"

Malon leaned in close, speaking gently in Romani's ear, "If you eat, I'll get those jam tarts you like. That will be fun, right? We have the rupees for it now, so everything will be alright. I know you always worried about me, that I work too much. But I can spend time with you now, so please-" SCREEECH

Malon stops, looking over to you as you stand up suddenly, your chair scraping loudly across the floor. Grabbing a mug of milk and a spoon you walk over to the opposite side of Romani and gesture to Malon to tip Romani's head back slightly. As she does so you take the tiniest spoonful of the fresh milk and gently bring it to Romani's lips, tipping it slowly past them so you didn't accidentally make her choke, just as you had once done with your father. When it was empty you repeated this, again and again.

It was all you could do.

"Alright, I've got the wagon prepared and some cows hitched up to pull it," Malon says, walking in as she wipes off her hands on her apron. It was the next day and you'd all gotten up early to help, Malon and yourself (who'd taken a few jobs on farms back in Ordon) providing some instructions.

"So," Malon asked, "Who's coming with me to pick up supplies?"

Your group all looked to each other. That... was a good question. Half of you would have to stay here to do chores and keep an eye on Romani. Midna was also completely unable to do anything during the day. Which left Paya, Zelda, Mipha, Irene and yourself. You also had to keep in mind this was a fairly prominent farming community in the heart of the empire, who are bound to take note of any oddities. So which two of you would go with Malon?

Pick two. Will not be counting picks individually. Any single pick vote will be automatically discarded.

[X] Irene

"Well, I suppose I do have the most experience dealing with farmers..." Irene mutters, taking off her hat and hanging it up on a hat stand by the door, "I don't look too suspicious, do I?" She asks you as you head towards the door.

You stop, looking her up and down while rubbing her chin before finally concluding, "Irene? Is that you? I scarcely recognized you! What a brilliant disguise!"

You then rear back trying to contain your snickering, rubbing your shoulder where Irene punched you, "Fine, at least I can look normal with ease Mr. Smarty-pants. You think no one's going to notice the shiny obviously magical sword hanging from your back?" She asks with a scowl, her ears a bright crimson as she points to the Master Sword.

You shrug, and with one smooth motion slide it off before holding it in front of you, "I'll keep it hidden under some furs in the wagon. Besides, it'd... I dunno it feels weird to leave it behind."

Irene raises a quizzical eyebrow to that, "And your Dad's dagger?"

"Under my shirt, almost didn't bring it," You say.

Irene gives you a concerned look, one you don't blame her for having. Even you felt a bit troubled when you had almost left the dagger on your bed but had so easily taken the Master Sword with you. It didn't seem like it was due to any magical influence, the Master Sword was just... somehow more comforting to you.

Unable to think of a way to really communicate it you gesture to Irene to follow outside and she does so with a sigh where the two of you immediately see Malon, who waves you over.

When Malon sees your sword however she freezes, before nervously asking "Bringing your sword? You don't think there's going to be trouble, right? They might harass us but not to that extent haha... ha..."

"I'm just being careful," You tell her, hopping onto the wagon as she scoots over, "I'll keep it out of sight, but if it does get drawn that means we'll have to flee immediately. Hopefully, if anyone does start anything that pitchfork you have in the back will make them reconsider."

Malon takes a deep breath and lets it out in one long burst, "Going to the market with a high risk of violence, this is my life now. You know how to direct the cattle right?" She asks as Irene climbs in beside you, putting you in the centre.

"Yeah, I took a couple farming jobs while growing up," You say, cracking the reins and directing the wagon forward onto the main road.

"Other's aren't coming to wish us luck?" Irene asks, looking to and fro as she tried to catch sight of Paya, Mipha and Zelda.

"Not if they want to be done by sundown," Malon chuckles, "To think, Princess Zelda, Princess Mipha AND a Sheikah working on my ranch. This is the craziest thing..."

"We're all willing to do whatever we can to help people," You say, sparing a glance back to the ranch, just barely catching a sight of Mipha comparing a pitchfork to her Trident with what you can only assume from this distance was a look of utter confusion at the wooden tool she had been handed.

"Link," Malon says quietly, putting a hand on your knee as she leaned to look directly at your face, "This is more then anyone could imagine being offered to them. Even if this is just what you're all willing to do for anyone, I couldn't possibly be more grateful."

"Be grateful after we leave this place, we're chancing far more danger then you realize just by being here," A familiar voice states coldly from underneath you, making the three of you jump.

"WHA- Midna?!" Irene shouts, looking at the shadows of the cart, "What are you doing here?!"

"I can't exactly move freely around in this wretched light now can I?" Midna's sardonic voice responds, "Besides, I'm sure you will all need guidance as you try to navigate past whatever foes are waiting for the red-haired girl."

"I...I'm right here..." Malon mumbles, slumping in her seat with a huff.

"Let's keep an eye out but not immediately look like we're expecting trouble," You point out, keeping an eye on the town ahead of you. While the roads were beginning to be filled with people none of them looked to be travellers, merely locals beginning to go about their business and there was a distinct lack of guards, with you just catching one with a pipe in his mouth and a piece of jerky in his hand at a small post at the side of the road.

"That's easy for you to say, these people are my neighbours. Even with the rumours, the departures... I never could understand how they can ignore what's happening at the Ranch..." Malon mutters, a scowl on her face tempered with a visible look of grief and uncertainty.

"Hey, maybe there's something else going on?" Irene says, leaning over to loon at Malon, "We're new here, so maybe we can get someone to talk to us?"

The corners of Malon's mouth twitch upwards in a small smile, and she gives Irene a smile, "I hope that's the case Irene. Though wouldn't you need to be super stealthy? The guards might arrest you for snooping around."

Irene just gives Malon an evil grin, "Hee hee hee, just you wait. I can brew elixirs that could let you walk up to people and take things from their hands without them ever noticing. Hee hee hee, you'll get to see the true power of a witch!"

Malon blinks, "O-oh... o-okay."

A sharp elbow nudges your side, and you glance over to see Irene looking at you with a smug smirk, her amethyst eyes sparkling, "You were tearing through those Bokoblin's with Grandma's Elixir Link, bet you never experienced anything like that!"

"You're right, it was nothing like the elixirs I've made," You say with a nod, focusing on the path ahead. When the elbow fails to be removed from your side you glance over to Irene, who's eyes had gone wide.

"W-wait, you make elixirs?" Irene asks, "I thought one of the others handled it before you guys met me!"

"Nope, was all me," You respond with a chuckle, "Not that I'm an expert or anything. I just kinda let the Chuchu jelly dissolve everything in a pot."

Irene recoils back, surprised "You don't prepare the ingredients beforehand? The jelly might not dissolve all the pieces and then there's the heat-"

You shake your head, "I always find I left some behind and it didn't become as potent, especially when I prepared healing elixirs as topical ointments. Besides, you can just treat it like you would a sauce, slowly stirring as it dissolves."

Irene perks up slightly, "Oh! I can show you my technique, greatly improves the effectiveness of elixirs without reducing potency," A thoughtful expression then passed over her as Irene contemplated what you said, rubbing her chin, "But making it into an ointment and you said you treated it like a sauce? That's really different from what I'm used to."

"Well, you see..." You begin, launching into an explanation as you continue to make your way into town. You and Irene begin to talk adamantly about elixirs, comparing both your experiences with them as fields began to turn into dwellings. Malon watched the entire way, Malon's elbow on her knee, hand under her chin and the biggest grin possible stretching across her face as Irene and you talked and talked and talked...

++++
Entering into the town though rapidly diminished all your good moods, each of you catching the increasing number of eyes on you all, the occasional pointing and whispering.

"Well, this is..." Malon mutters through clenched teeth, doing her best to keep her eyes forward.

"Bizarre?" You finish Malon's thought, looking over to her with concern, "We're getting the same stares I'd expect if I started waving my sword around. Are you sure they've just been spreading rumours?"

"Haha," Irene chuckles nervously as Malon doesn't respond but starts to look increasingly worried, "S-so it's not just me feeling spooked? I mean I'm used to people looking at me on my broom but this is..."

"I feel... uneasy," Midna whispers from your shadow, "That I only feel uneasy worries me endlessly. Let's finish what we came here to do and get out."

"L-look, I've heard a lot of things about my father and how desperate things are, they must be talking about that..." Malon says, her voice trembling with uncertainty.

"Yet you said they want the Ranch and... well would it really do well for them to make you the product of all kinds of rumours?" You ask, directing the cart towards what you can only assume was where hay was sold, "Try to ruin your business maybe, but to this extent? Isn't this contrary to their goals?"

Malon stares at you for a moment, before suddenly running her hands angrily through her hair, thoroughly messing it up, "Aaaaaaaaaagh! I don't even want to consider what those crooks are thinking, but none of this is making sense!"

"Oh ho, did the dog catch a scent? Just where are you going to lead us?~" An amused mocking voice whispers in your ear, laughing as you roll your eyes.

"I'd like to have this conversation when we're anywhere but here please and thank you," Irene whispered through gritted teeth, and you give a nod to her.

Malon meanwhile had quickly started trying to straighten out her hair, "Right, well we should just be coming up to the first stop, Irene could you watch the cart? Oh I hope they sell to me..."
++++
Stepping into the store with Malon presented to you a merchant that definitely didn't look anything like you'd expect from a farming community. Their clothes were too clean, a blue embroidered tunic and dark vest straining against the merchants extended belly, his moustache waxed and hair parted to cover up a growing bald spot. The design however looked cheap and poorly stitched, your time with Zelda giving you an eye for quality even if most of her clothing was a result of Claree working herself to the bone to make do with substandard materials for the Princess. As you both stepped into the storefront they turned to greet you with a fake smile, one that turned into a sneer the moment he laid eyes on Malon, "Ah, Miss Malon, I'm afraid this business is for those with rupees. I'm sure the Lords Gorman will be happy to give you enough for you to come back here."

You look over to Malon, who while looking straight ahead with a scowl glances slightly your way to see you mouth, "What on earth?" To her before you step forward.

"Ah, a new face in town~" He says, rubbing his hands together that were covered cheap looking jewellery, "I do apologize for the riffraff, some in this town can't accept our lords generosity even when they live in squalor. I'll have someone escort her out. Now. how may I serve you?"

Now thoroughly convinced you'd stepped into a parody you take a look up to where prices were thankfully conveniently located on a board and after doing some quick math slam down a pile of rupees that make the disgusting man's eyes bulge, "Yes, I believe Lady Malon has some purchases she'd like to make," You tell him, doing your best to keep your voice from cracking as you hold back a smile. A small mirror behind the man gives you the perfect look at Malon, folding her arms across her chest and grinning wickedly as the man in front of you begins to sputter.
++++
"What. Was. That?" You ask Malon as you both watch some workers load hay onto the back of the cart, Irene walking up beside you.

"He's new," Malon replies, eyes scanning the workers to make sure none would try to pilfer from the wagon, "At least wasn't here the last time I went here. But that reaction... I thought I was going crazy before but that..."

"So I wasn't there and while I'd love to be filled in you guys missed some weeeeiiird stuff," Irene chimes in, "Soon as you were out of sight Malon a bunch more people started coming down the road and were pretty friendly, waving to me. Then this guy from across the road storms over, whispers to them and they all just started glaring at me and wandered off. Did these Gorman jerks pay everyone in this town off or something?" Irene suddenly shudders, "Ugh, I've got the weirdest feeling about this place. Just stepping off the cart is giving me the heebie jeebies!"

"Well, we apparently just stepped out of a stereotype," Malon says, glancing back to the store, "Seems I'm the poor maiden being harassed by the evil merchant," She then elbows you in the side, leaning forward slightly to look up to you with a smirk, her long hair cascading down her front in an auburn wave, "Of course, it seems this time I was saved by a knight in shining armour~"

"So knights here protect maidens by buying grain products with money. What a strange land this is..." You hear Midna mutter from your shadow.

You clear your throat to compose yourself before saying, "Well, we'll see how long this lasts. I don't think every merchant is going to be easily swayed with rupees."
++++
You were wrong. You are also considerably less rich now. Turns out feeding an entire herd of cattle for a week is expensive.

X 3000
Each merchant you visited, save the final one, acted much like the merchant you had first met and sneered and disparaged Malon until you dropped a ton of rupees down. Then all they could do was sputter indignantly at you, until the last one who only silently glared at you evidently being informed ahead of time of your arrival. Still greed won out, and for that you were thankful. Finally, as you cracked the reigns and the much heavier cart began to move forward you all collectively breathed a sigh of relief, finally free of this pla-

"HALT!" A guard said, stepping in front of your cart that you with a great deal of mental cursing of your fate slowed to a stop.

"I-is something wrong?" Malon asks, smiling at the guards with an expression that seemed much more like a grimace.

The guard gives an infuriating smirk to Malon, "Inspection, you really believe you could just stroll into town and leave?"

"As much as your masters dislike it, I signed for all of this," Malon snarled, "Even they aren't stupid enough to cheat Imperial taxmen."

The guard looks for a moment like he'd strike Malon and slowly your hand begins to reach for the hidden hilt of the Master Sword, before the guard steps back, "I'd warn you to be careful with your words, but I do a circuit by the manor. Lookin forward to seein' you there, all straightened out," He then turns back to his fellow guards, "Look over their receipts! Make sure everything they paid for is in the cart," He then jabs a finger at all of you, "and you lot don't think of stepping off it."

This is an issue. While Malon seems confident they won't confiscate anything there is the issue of the Master Sword hidden underneath you. You aren't sure having an incredibly magical sword is contraband, but that's something these Gorman brothers would probably be VERY interested in. While they aren't specifically going to look at what's under your seat if they get frustrated once they realize Malon did everything completely legitimately they might decide to tear the cart apart to try and find anything. Looking over to Irene, you see her hand hidden under her sleeves, moving slightly as if ready to cast a spell. Fighting them or running is also out of the question. You could very easily dispatch them all, but it would be a giant alarm to make every soldier the Gorman's have descend on the ranch, and... well monsters were one thing, people were quite another.

Still, a lot of these guards looked bored with the situation, they didn't seem to care at all about Malon and a few even rolled there eyes as the leader ordered them to inspect the cart and proceeded to go about it in a tired, half-asleep manner. Perhaps you can exploit it...

So what do you do?
[] Strike up a friendly conversation, create a distraction that they'll just wave you on through rather then thoroughly inspect the cart.
[] Stay still, just let the guards look the cart over and don't antagonize them. They aren't looking where the master sword is for now.
[] Have Irene trip the commander with a root, embarrassing him in front of his men and thus create a distraction from the inspection.
[] Write-in.

So my computer fried. Luckily had a bunch of backups but yeah... that's what I was dealing with. Oh yeah for those that didn't see it:

[] Stay still, just let the guards look the cart over and don't antagonize them. They aren't looking where the master sword is for now.

You feel yourself grinding your teeth as they go over the items in the back of the cart, your whole body prepared for you to leap up and fight your way out. The guards don't speak to any of you though, leaving you sitting as the suns heat hammers down on you all. Irene seems to be the worst off, her face red and covered in a sheen of sweat, you can see her gripping her dress tightly. Malon was keeping herself looking ahead, her face blank though the corners of her mouth twitched on occasion. A shaking calloused hand suddenly wrapped around your own, squeezing it tightly as if letting go would send its owner plummeting away. You didn't even look to see who it belonged too, shifting slightly to hide that sign of Malon's fear and anxiety away from the eyes of the guards, thankful that Irene suddenly scooted up closer to you and blocked it from view.

"SIR!" A voice suddenly calls out, making you all jump. As one you all whip around to see a guard holding up the powder horn Malon had bought.

The officer grins, walking over as the guard says "We should probably be careful rooting through, we've confirmed they did indeed buy powder and shot-"

"Ah, so planning to do some hunting eh?" The officer chuckles, sneering at Malon "And just what did you plan to hunt? I'm sure you're aware of the recent Imperial laws. My oh my, you're in quite a bit of trouble now my dear~"

You could almost feel Malon roll her eyes without even looking at her, "As much as your masters would like otherwise I still own most of the land from the Ranch to the Whistling Hill and in case you've forgotten the ranch holds the cattle they want. Unless you're planning to station guards around them day and night to make sure a Chuchu doesn't devour them I need something to defend them."

The officer goes pale, as do all the soldiers who carefully place the powder back into the cart. Yet with a twitch of the eye the officer suddenly returns to his sneering expression and says "Well, we'll be keeping an eye on you. Imperial law is getting stricter, some who are... lacking the necessary qualities may find themselves no longer allowed to own property. You'll soon need to make certain considerations, you know which ones."

Malon suddenly glances over to you, before coldly asking with a glare, "May I leave now?"

The officer waves stepping back, and you quickly set the cart in motion. Passing the guards still pale and whispering about chuchus. The guard keeps sneering at the back of your heads.

Malon keeps looking ahead until finally out of earshot she slumps against the seat, resting her head against your shoulder as she clutches her chest, "Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah my heart is racing, I was certain they'd notice that sword!"

"Chuchu's? They're seriously worried about Chuchu's? Do you guys get swarms of electric chuchu's here?" You ask, looking over to Malon who looks up to you with surprise before sighing again.

"Right, you guys are like... super awesome heroes. I don't even want to see what you all consider a challenge, right Irene?" Malon chuckles, leaning over to speak to the witch, "Irene?"

You look over to your blue-haired witch friend who's skin was extremely red and was wincing as she gently touched her nose, "I. HATE. Being. Without. My. Hat." The witch hissed at both of you, "Ugh, we don't even have a single chillshroom or cold darner so can't brew anything..."

"Ah, so you lightdwellers are also harmed by the sun! Isn't it an awful disgusting thing? This is why the twilight is superior above all," A smug voice happily informed you all from somewhere behind you.

"I wonder how her majesty is doing..." Malon suddenly whimsically ponders aloud, resting her hand on her chin as she looks on ahead a small smile on her face. A smile that slowly becomes a look of fear as she suddenly whispers, "Oh gods I've had Princess Zelda and Princess Mipha doing hard farm work she never did before with no food and little water in the heat."

"Uh, has Paya ever been near a cow before?" Irene asks you.

You don't respond, instead pushing the cart to move forward just a little faster.

Thankfully when you arrived it turned out the girls were all sitting in the shade of a tree, drinking (or in Mipha's case pouring it on her head) water that was clear Mipha had summoned. Zelda had at some point thrown on one of your shirts, with the sleeves rolled up and tied her hair back in a ponytail, while Paya was wearing the dress that had been bought for her as a disguise though kept without the coverings that would hide her hair and tattoos. Mipha meanwhile was only wearing the disabled shock collar. Sif was at their feet, panting and looking very much like he really didn't want to move while Elora, Zelda's Sheikah Falcon, had her head tucked under her wing in the branches. Romani was beside them, seated on the ground head lolling back and forth seemingly unaware of anything. The three older girls were covered in dirt and sweat, exhaustion clear even as they all stood up and quickly made their way over to you as the cart pulled up to the ranch.

"Heeeeey! You guys all finish or just taking a break?" Malon called out happily, waving to them as they hurried over.

"Finished, thankfully Mipha's magic helped trivialize certain tasks," Zelda replied as she walked up.

"Magic?" Malon asks, cocking her head only to jump back as Mipha waved her hand and summoned a sphere of water the size of a horse that she lazily launched into the empty field. Malon gaped, "WOW I mean... that's... I... WOW you can just do that?! That's the coolest thing I've ever seen! Can you do stuff like that your majesty?!"

"Ehehe... I'm more uh... magic arrows kinda stuff..." Zelda replied with an awkward chuckle, scratching her chin.

"We uhm.... may have pushed most of it into a ditch Miss Malon..." Paya mumbles from behind Zelda.

"Uhm, Irene... you're looking quite... Red. Are those burns? Did you fight some fire chuchus?" Mipha asks with concern to the very red witch who was wincing as she got off the cart, "Do you need some healing?"

"Yes. Please. Thank you."

"Well, I'll go check on the animals, you guys mind making sure everythings packed away?" Malon asks as Mipha began casting her healing magic on Irene.

"I'll get started on dinner," You announce, moving to grab the food you had bought.

"You sure you don't need help?" Malon asks, as she seemed to look around and note that no one seemed to move to assist you, "I mean, I'll be fine with anything-"

++++++++++++++++
Malon let out a content sigh, one hand cupping her cheek as she lowered the wooden spoon back to the bowl, "It's soooooo good~ Can you marry me so I can have food like this every day?~"

"Glad you enjoy it," You reply with a laugh as you rub the back of your head as Malon and others return to devouring it, occasionally Zelda stopping to help feed Romani, "It's really a simple dish."

"This is simple?!" Malon shouts through half a mouthful.

"We try to correct him, but it's no use," Irene says with a shrug and shake of her head.

Mipha chuckles, "One day we'll convince him how he accommodates for our different races and cultures with all his dishes is extraordinary, I'm sure of it."

"Oh I don't know about that, what's that saying?" You hear Midna say as a weight settles on your head, looking up you see her two crossed arms and red-yellow eyes staring down at you, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks?~"

"Anyways," You change the subject, pinching the bridge of your nose, "Did anything weird happen here while we were gone?"

Paya, Mipha and Zelda all shake their heads, answering with various variations of "No."

"Then we need to talk," You state grimly, moving to take a seat. Midna actually takes a seat as well, the teasing smirk she normally has replaced with a grim expression.

"Are we going to expect an attack?" Mipha asks, despite the darkness settling in her pupils contracted into silts, yellow eyes flashing in the candlelight as she made a quick glance to Romani, a flash of worry visible on her face.

Malon shakes her head, "No, at least I don't think so but I'm not a skilled adventurer like you guys."

"You're right, whatever is going on they don't seem to be gearing up to attack us, at least they don't seem to view us as a threat," You explain, "But there's something very strange. The merchants we ran into are all new, atleast within the last few months and all of them seem like they belong in Castletown then even being within Hyrule's breadbasket."

"They're friends of the Gorman brothers, I'm certain of it," Malon replies, hands balled into fists, "They brought in all their stooges to bleed us all dry."

"I'm afraid that doesn't explain everyone's behaviour, farm girl," Midna interjects, interlocking her fingers under her chin as she rested her elbows on the table, "Either they're exceptionally more popular with the local populace then this empire and they dislike any remnants of Zelda's old kingdom or they've somehow convinced the entire township to be against you until you do... something."

Malon perks up, "You mean like brainwashing?! Can you sense some evil magic!?"

Midna shakes her head, "Nothing other than a sense of unease, but the sun was high in the sky while we were in town. I'm only a shadow in such wretched light."

Malon looked dejected, before looking expectantly to the rest of your group, "Hey you all have super magic right? One of you could sense if something was up!"

Zelda looked away, and awkwardly mumbled, "I uhm... have no idea how my powers work..."

"All I have to work with is recovering from heat-stroke..." Irene mumbled to herself, thankfully no longer looking quite as sunburnt but didn't look all too pleased.

"You must understand Malon, all of us save Midna are very new to the ways we can use our magic," Mipha interrupted, her face apologetic, "If she didn't sense anything... I don't think any of us will."

"If there is anything, we'll be leaving in a week or two at most," You try to console the red-haired farm girl, who had inclined her head with an expression of worry, "I doubt the Gorman's will have time to make a move."

"I just don't understand, why all THIS," Malon asks, gesturing all around her, "Just to get me to hand myself and the Ranch over to them?"

"Didn't that officer imply you could lose the ranch by some Imperial law?" You ask, "By qualities, were they implying...?"

"Almost definitely, just cause I'm a girl I could lose the ranch..." Malon spat out, lifting her arm as though to send her bowl flying before she lets out a calming breath, "And you know... they might view you being here as a threat to that."

"B-but... can L-link do something for you though?" Paya quietly asks, making you start as you never expected the shy Sheikah girl to respond. Nor did you expect her to ask that question with such a... sad look on her face as she stared at the table, holding her hand over her heart. Zelda too was strangely avoiding looking at you, while Irene just looked uncomfortable with where the conversation had gone. Mipha and Midna though were watching the proceedings with a curious look, Midna towards Paya and Mipha towards Malon, though you could see in Mipha's eyes she was debating within herself whether to be reassuring or to watch over the situation.

Malon looks over to you with half-lidded eyes and there was something in the expression you couldn't read before she looked back to Paya and said, "No. Even if we faked it I wouldn't doubt it would immediately come out Link's the son of a royal guard or just missing the paperwork. Even if we went through the motions it'd just hurt you guys in the long run, and I couldn't live with that."

"Oh, o-oh Miss Malon..."

Malon then laughed, "Pffthaha... Just had the thought, everyone would think me and Linkle-!" Then she snapped her fingers as she bolted to her feet, "LINKLE! THAT'S IT!"

All of you jumped, with Paya asking "L-Linkle?"

"Yeah!" Malon responded with a nod, "You can pretend to be her long lost brother! No one would suspect a thing! You have similar hair, your names are similar, it's PERFECT!"

You cock your head to the side, "I mean, I don't know my family so she might be a relative."

Malon waved her hand, "Nah, her families from Akkala. Her grandmother had a list of family going back generations but no one in the village has seen it," Malon then winks at you, "Trust me, anyone who knew Linkle would not be suspicious of an unmentioned family member showing up, and besides we're related on my mother's side, that should ward off some suspicion as to why Link's here."

"And if Linkle shows up?" Irene asks, folding her arms over her chest, "We got a plan to get you out, but your relative is gods knows where and we might be putting her in danger, and why didn't you mention you're related?"

Malon shakes her head, "Trust me, you aren't and we didn't even know until her grandmother told us. It never mattered, at least till now. I'm going to leave a note anyways in a place only we know, so even if we cover our tracks it'll be there for her."

"You did say she's skilled right? People here were frightened of Chuchu's but you said she's fought Bokoblin tribes?" You ask Malon, to which she nods.

"Yep! I'd love to see her again, but like I said before she could be anywhere. Once we're out of here we're probably going to be more likely to find her," Malon explains, "I know it sounds ludicrous but Linkle... well she's a lot like you guys."

"If I pretend we're related and she's really that similar to us that might help cover up us slipping up and doing something extraordinary," You ponder aloud, rubbing your chin, "I think this is a good plan."

Zelda grins, as Paya enthusiastically nods beside her, "Yeah, us crazy people tend to group up together so we're all good with that. This is a great plan Malon!"

"She left to get help, if you say it makes sense for us to show up without her... well I guess I have nothing to complain about," Irene grins and gives a thumbs up.

"There is the matter that my presence stands out," Mipha states, putting a damper on the mood before she reaches up to rub the collar, "But I suppose this gives enough of a reason for a lack of contact. I'll try to be convincing."

"Well, I could always whisper advice to you from the shadows," Midna responds with a smirk as she floats up and rests her elbow on your shoulder, supporting her chin with her hand, "I've gotten quite the amount of practice with my mutt here ordering an obedient servant around. I'm sure we can make it convincing~"

"Then it's settled," You say, and there was a chorus of cheers and agreements and for once in a long while peals of laughter resounded across the Lon Lon Ranch.

But with dinner, in the end, you were all left with evening chores and the girls scattered across the ranch. With not much direction you were left to your own devices to choose who needed help. Of course with everyone's job equally important it ultimately boiled down to who you wanted to talk to before bed.

So who would you speak to? Choose two, they'll be together.
[] Malon
[] Midna
[] Mipha
[] Zelda

GM Note: Warframe's nightwave event sucks down so much time, anyone familiar with it knows that it's the worst thing that forces you to do stupid pointless resource-draining busywork if you want actual rewards. Also not used to the new SV layout at all, but you guys need an update.
