Of Fists and Faith - A 5th Edition D&D Quest

Alright, still considering names, but I like Faith and Fists, thought it would probably be modified to Of Faith And Fists. Putting in (D&D/Holy Bible/???) might be a bit much and a tad spoilery. May go (5th Edition D&D)

Also, your character sheet should be fully done. Hopefully. Let me know what you think, and if there is anyway to improve how it looks. (I wanted to use tables and tabs like I've seen some other quests do, but I'm not sure how to do it.

Going to do some writing today, plan is to finish it by Saturday at worst. I am shooting for a Friday finish though.

And look, seriously, thanks for being part of this quest. I'm not the best with it, but I enjoy doing this, and I'm thankful you're taking a chance on me. If you have any questions, let me know.

So, didn't get as much done today as I wanted, but I still have enough for a teaser!

So, in my quests, a teaser is a snippet of the upcoming update. It is not canon yet (as it could be changed or even scrapped), but it is where I headed with the update. A peek into what I'm thinking.

Here's the first one! :D
-

You looked on in sheer horror as what you could only describe as a ichor black hole in reality continued to burn no more than twenty feet from you.

"Jesussavemeprotectmefromthis…"

You couldn't tear away, as two books and a mask dropped out of them. Wisps of something flickered in all directions. Like smoke, but seeming to have its own will.

"Idon'twannadieIdon'twannadiepleaseSelunehelp."

You didn't think about how this would be the first time you'd call out to a god other than God. Mainly because you couldn't even hear yourself think over your own terror.

The good news was that you could still fear terror. You could feel your hands heal. You could feel them harm. The other two people who had been in the room had been sucked through the hole.

"IwillwalkthroughthevalleyoftheshadowofdeathIwillfearnoevil."

You knew they would not return from the Abyss. You know they are lost forever.

You know you're a Monk. You know Selune is a goddess. You know there is no other God but God. You know there are other worlds than these. There are other timelines than these.

"Forthouartwithmeyourbloodandyourmoontheycomfortme."

For a brief moment, two impossible things become possible at once. Then a picture of nature. A picture of a dog. A picture of themselves. Then the tear closes as suddenly as it opened.

For a moment, there is nothing but blessed silence

And then you scream…

…and you wake up

Good morning questers! (Questors?)

So, edited and slightly reworded some stuff from the snippet, and have contemplated the main goal of your first vote for Alice. It is a long and epic task, fit only for the strongest of wills: does Alice get out of bed?

More seriously, I will be doing a few votes to get the feel of her personality and the way she does things. There will be a guaranteed combat at some point soon, because that will also shape her personality.

It looks like I will have this done by Friday guaranteed. If I am really lucky, I may even have it done tonight!

Either way, I'll check back in soon!

The Crisis of Alice, Chapter 1, Verse 1
"Jesussavemeprotectmefromthisevil…"

You continue to look on in sheer horror, as what you could only describe as a ichor black tear in reality continues to burn through existence, no more than ten feet from you.

You couldn't tear your gaze away, as you watch two books and a mask fall out of the hole. Wisps of something akin to smoke flicker and flail from the edges in all directions.

With rational thought having fled you, the only thing you know is scripture.

"IwillwalkthroughthevalleyoftheshadowofdeathIwillfearnoevil."

No. You know more. You know so much more.

"Forthouartwithmeyourbloodandyourmoontheycomfortme."

You know that is now how Psalm 23 goes. But you know it is right. But the misquoting means you are still alive. You can still feel. You could feel your hands heal. You could feel them harm. The other two people who had been in the room can't feel anything anymore. Other than the Abyss they had been sucked into.

You knew they would not return from the Abyss. You know they are lost forever.

"IknowthatalllovealiveunderHerlightshallknowHerblessing

What would be utter blasphemy falls from your lips. But it is true. You know this to be true

"IturntoHermoon,andShewillbemyguide"

You know Selune is a goddess. One of many. Everchanging, but always loving and comforting.

"IcalluponthenameoftheLordandYahwehwillsaveme."

You know that God sent his Son to die for your sins, and be resurrected on the third day, There is no other God but God.

For a brief moment, two contradictory things become possible at once.

"Yes, the blood, it is my victory…"

You know there are other worlds than these. There are other timelines than these.

You know you are a Monk of Mercy.

Then you see a picture of nature. A picture of a dog. A picture of themselves. And as suddenly as it opened, the tear closes, and there is nothing but blessed silence

It is only then that you remember to scream…

…and bolt from the bed fully awake.

It takes a moment to realize you're not in your own bed. No, you're in a cheap hotel you can't quite remember the name of. A last ditch move after everyone you knew made it very clear you were not welcome.

Not after Reverend Goodfellow let everyone know you were a Heretic.

But it isn't heresy. Selune is a goddess, just like Yahweh is God. This is something you know, deep down in your heart. Right now, both belief systems are tearing at each other, being contradictory. But they're true. Aren't they? You don't know, and it's what's eating you up inside.

Of course, you had told Reverend Goodfellow everything that had happened. You needed to tell someone! And he was the first person to find you, not more than ten seconds after the whole nasty affair ended. Not that it was hard from all the screaming you were doing.

He had assured you this was nothing more than a test of faith! Just tell no one what happened, because who would believe an otherworldly tear through reality? That would just make the cops suspicious of you. No, let the good preacher handle the mundane stuff. She just needed to rebuke the devil and let the Lord take care of this little crisis of faith.

And now you've lost everything. Your job at Grace and Love International Church, the highest attended church in the area by far. You've lost your friends, who see you as someone who's let the Devil lead you astray, just like those who watch Star Wars and read Harry Potter.

You've even lost your last name. Okay, you haven't lost your government name. But you can't use it anymore. You no longer have a right, according to your father. Only family can use it, and you're not family anymore. Not until you repent of your heresy.

So all you have is the small amount of stuff that's actually yours. Some clothes, some toiletries, your Hurdy Gurdy, and a swiss army knife you'd bought on a whim. Oh, and your bank debit card. After trying to find some sort of shelter from your former friends, you came here, and…

Well, you just looked at the moon for most of the night, hoping if maybe it could give you comfort. And it did, though it did not ease the crisis of faith, or the hurt in your heart by the betrayal of your former spiritual leader.

Finally, you crashed out on your bed, and then the nightmares began.

And now you're awake. There's only one question that matters…

What do you do now?

So, what does Alice do, now that she's on her own? This will affect her personality, and a bit of backstory.

[] This is all too much for you. You want to just hide from the world for a while. Grab some ice cream, put on some television, and try to forget everything. Maybe even sleep a bit longer…

[] Obviously you need to get on your knees and pray. Ask why this is happening to you. Is this a test? A spiritual attack? A sign of the End Times? Even if you don't get an answer, it'll make you feel much better,

[] You have a Bible, a Player's Handbook, and a Mask. Obviously they are super important. Why else would that horrible thing drop them here? Maybe you should finally look at these… gifts?

[] This can't just be a one time thing, right? Maybe these things happened to other people. Obviously, this means a trip to the library and using the free internet! Somebody has to know something, right?

[] Fluff this. You are angry. And you don't like being angry, since that's sinful. You're going to the gym and punch your problem away. And if anyone starts screaming heretic, you'll punch them too! Wait, that might also be a sin…

[] You grab your Hurdy Gurdy, and start to make for the park. Even in these very stressful times, you need to sing praise and worship to Her. Him. Someone! You'll worship someone!

[] Wait, you can heal people. There are people who need your new… miracles? Blessings? You cannot put your light under a bushel. Besides, they are proof you aren't crazy. Right?

[X] You have a Bible, a Player's Handbook, and a Mask. Obviously they are super important. Why else would that horrible thing drop them here? Maybe you should finally look at these… gifts?

Ouch, we even lost the family name. Real exiled from a megachurch hours.

That said, we might as well check these gifts out. Might teach us something before we go heal people openly on the street.

I like lazy Alice.

There's a fairly simple way to unwind this apparent contradiction: The Ten Commandments, in most versions, specifically State that one shalt not worship any being over G-d. Ergo, Selune is a lesser deity, akin to an archangel, and still a part of G-d's domain.

The use of an attempt at spelling G-d's name also is giving Big Mormon energy.

RTFM

That is the traditional way Christians have absorbed local beliefs. Local gods were equated to saints and angels whenever possible and convenient. Though, I'm not sure if Selune would like that. She doesn't strike me as an overly proud goddess, but being considered lesser to another deity probably isn't something to brush off either.

That said, I do wonder how canonical the whole "Pagan Earth gods left for the Forgotten Realms" thing is to this quest. Could be interesting, since YHWH did have interactions with other gods, mainly in the "bust down your door and solo your pantheon" way if you squint at Exodus 12:12 and Psalm 82. :V

Yep. I noticed the fact that the winning plan had no last name, and decided to run with it. You can get a cool new last name later on down the line though, depending on how things shake out.

But yeah, immediately having your family disown you because you believe differently from them is a thing I've heard a lot about. Like, something flips from love to hate.

The use of an attempt at spelling G-d's name also is giving Big Mormon energy.

Wouldn't it be more of a Jehovah's Witness thing? Or am I getting them mixed up?

"and lo, did Alice read the fluffing manual."

Man, they really jobbed the Egyptian pantheon out.

I mean, it's Selune, she might well answer, even if not directly.

From what I understand about the Megachurch, they've collected all the Abrahamic religions - Christianity, Judaism and Islam. For such a somewhat crazy syncretism, they seem pretty dogmatic. Well, on the other hand, you need at least some kind of central idea to hold it together.

The God Emperor protects, Alice should purge the mutant and the heretic and the xeno until she regains her God's favour.

But getting kicked out by her people seems like an over reaction, I think.

Good morning!

So, going to make a couple of public rolls. Then try and do some writing.

According to Wikipedia:

A megachurch is a church with a very large membership that also offers a variety of educational and social activities. Most megachurches are Protestant, and particularly Evangelical, although the word denotes a type of organization, not a denomination. The Hartford Institute for Religion Research defines a megachurch as any Protestant Christian church that draws 2,000 or more people in a weekend.

Edit: Religion: 21. History: 14. Good rolls!
Edit 2: Perception: Unnatural 20. You caught something!

So, I failed a Con Save, and now my body has decided that I need to puke my guts out. So probably not gonna have a preview today. So we're having a mini-vote!

What does Alice look like? Need some description, but no longer then a paragraph. It'll be a day long vote, so everyone should have a shot!

Is there a specific thing we have to make sure is on her appearance, like a certain hair or eye color or certain thing she's wearing.
