I think he broke Isabella.

I get the feeling that she's planning to lock Henry up "for his own good".

I'm all for honesty, but telling Isabella all the details of your peace meeting was a terrible idea. What if she now allies with Pope Genocide to destroy the elves? All so Henry won't be hurt?
If he said everything properly, then she would know that the pope is more dangerous.

So obviously, they must go Crusader Kings on all their asses and conquer the entire continent.
Shade, if you do this... You're gonna have a bad time.
I will be annoyed if he doesn't have a bad time.

You know he could make the argument that this would be his last excursion.

"Isa, let me do this, save our people, save all humanity and in return...I'll stop."

"Stop, what?" She hissed.

"...Everything. You can have the army, I will no longer go on trip, I will not cause anything to bring heartache to you, and I'll always stay by your side. No more running around, no more night flights, no more...causing pain. I swear this on my most important possession, what I value more than my own life, I swear this upon you and little Pierre, this will be the last. So please, let me make this right so everyone can live and no more blood would be spilled."

Regardless of the results of elf "diplomacy", leaving Gallia in the hands of an extremely pissed and stressed Isabella right after the still unresolved incident with Germania sounds like a recipe for Henry to return to this:

Though imo the elf peace talks are also going to end in fire and truth potion interrogation if Henry uses his usual rhetoric of "or else I'll kill you".

I say its time for raven to finally shank a bitch. Kids born now. The line of succession is secured. Shank the bitch and rule with a feather coated iron fist as reagint for your son. Before its too late.

For the greater good.

I have to agree with Isabella yet again.

If Shade has some contingency for being betrayed by the elves, he should reassure his wife that he does, instead of posing his plan in the most ridiculous manner he could have worded it.

Because the way he presented it, he is counting on the elves being too honorable to simply remove the threat to their survival when they have Henry surrounded in their territory, either unable to relay orders to his assets or having brought them into the Lion's Den.

Or he's intending to set off the Yanderaggeddon, and giggle while the world burns!

Well just going to leave a lyric here, that may or may no be relevant later.

The day the world died, nothing was learned.

You don't trust her enough to tell her the whole plan... Bad Henry BAD!!!

Dude just tell her about the Void genocide spell, but tell her it requires the sacrifice of four void mages and their familiars, tell her you will lead the negotiations with that metaphorical gun to their heads, and tell her you want to convince the elves with words because using said Spell would kill your little sister and that would make you a sad and heart broken man...

Of course she is going to say NO, if all you tell her about your plan is:

1. I'll go talk to the Elves.
2. I will tell them something.
3. ?????????
4. ????????
5. ?????
6. ???
7. Everyone dances!!!

Well Henry, I hope you enjoy being imprisoned 'for your own good'. It's not yandere unless that happens at some point.

Though knowing him, he probably already made plans to have Anges break him out if that happens.

He has trained small animals (crows) to smuggle him things.
He is likely to be imprisoned in the deepest cell of the castle(wind mage) from where he can escape anytime.
Shade, you clearly belong to the Vetinari school of prison management.

Way I see it, there's only two ways for this to go.

On one hand he makes it to the capital and they might listen. On the other hand, that maximum overyandere tag is going to bite Henry in the ass.

Either way, I guess Shade's going to pull something unexpected.

Chapter One Hundred and Sixty-Six
Isabella, in answer, giggled.

She had tears in her eyes, but she was giggling.

Clearly, this meant she trusted me.

Right?

Right.
Where's the List...
1. Demand
2. Bloodshed
3. Carnage
4. War Crimes
[5]. [YANDERE MODE CHARGED[100%]. READY TO FIRE]
Here we are!

I... I genuinely don't know if this counts as a sort inversion or not... I mean, she did pretty much everything on here but 3, but she calmed back down and started over from Demand again, this round, before jumping immediately to [5]...
"Without this, there is no future," I whispered. "I will put into place contingencies, my dear," I gave her a kiss on the forehead. "Trust me. I have prepared my whole life for this moment. Demons run when a good man goes to war...so think what elves will do, when a good man goes to talk to them."
Aaand now I find myself imagining and wanting a Doctor Who/ZnT cross...

Okay, so to recap:
Henry: "Darling, I am going to go engage in diplomacy talks, is that alright?
Isabella: "With whom?"
Henry: "The elves."
Isabella: "Oh, that's fine then, I hear they have wonderful ar-WHAT."
Henry: "I have a plan."
Isabella: (giggles brokenly)

I have a statement to make, but first I feel I must rant.
Now, Henry. There is a time and place for everything.

Telling your wife who is now a mother that you are going on what everyone in Halkegenia would call a Suicide Mission?

The first few weeks of motherhood aren't the time for that, Henry!

For Pete's sake, she could have postpartum depression, or- more likely- she's worried about raising her child as a single parent. You know, like how she turned out? She knows shes a mess, though she won't admit it, and has the fear common to all parents about screwing up. The only difference is that if she screws up with her son, then we've got a tyrant in possession of the largest army in Halkegenia, and half of the Brimiric Kingdoms.

(sighs)
Henry, you have to realize that you are probably the light in Isabella's life, the rock she clings to, her unerring support. She willingly immersed herself in darkness to further strengthen your light, your ideals, and allow your dreams and goals come to fruition. If you die, where would she be?

She would be adrift, scared, confused, and paranoid. Without her stalwart King at her side, keeping her and her child safe, she would either be jumping at the shadows, or having assassins murdering any and everyone who looks at her and her son funny.

Just... Ugh. Come on, Henry. I'm aware you have a plan, and as a reader, I expect that plan to be executed regardless of what shenanigans occur in-story. But show some tact, man.
Okay, I feel better now. Anyway:
Anyone else honestly expecting house arrest for the wayward Henry? Possibly forcing him to have to send Raven in his stead?
