Okay can someone plz explain to me the hate-on everyone has for Henrietta? Cause the bashing in the comments are starting to get on my nerves.
Because she decided "I'm going to break an marriage allegiance with my largest neighbor because I'm in love!"

And then decided "I'm going to ask my bestie's brother, who is a general for our other neighbor to risk his men to save my fiance, whose existence would not be well received in the largest neighbor and may cause them to go after us both".

When said brother told her to fuck off, as he's got no stake in this, she decided to go ahead and kidnap him, causing the Loyalist movement to fragment and die, because their figurehead just upped and vanished on them. And then she may have arranged a incident where Albion would appear to break a truce, thereby allowing her to intervene, and put her fiance back on the throne.

Ignoring the fact that half the reason why they revolted was probably because grapes used in wine making are not good for eating, which is a issue when most of your cropland gets used as vineyards...

Holy shit, Shade. Hit me right in the feels, won't you?

I honestly have no idea why so many people are joking about that omake.

Omake: Final Goodbye
So here's that omake.

Omake: Final Goodbye

It was a sunny day in Tristain. There were no clouds in the sky, and the all was calm.

In a graveyard reserved for members of the Valarie family, all was silent. The entire area was silent, and empty save for a lonely figure kneeling in front of a tombstone.

The cloaked figure pulled their hood back revealing themself to be a woman. Louise to be exact. She was much older now. Nearing her mothers age, when she retired from court.

She had come to pay her respects one final time. To her dearly departed mother, Karin 'The Heavy Wind' Valerie.

A branched cracked behind her and she whirled around, drawing a wand to face the intruder.

"Who are yo-" She cut herself off with a gasp.

In front of her stood a man she thought she would have never seen again. Her brother, Henry.

She instinctively began to chant a spell, before her wand was knocked out of her hand by a strong blast of air.

"Let it go sister. Not here... Not in front of her." His said, his voice strained by age.

He slowly approached her, stopping a few feet away from her.

"I-I thought you were dead." Louise choked out after a few moments.

"Almost am. Came to pay my respects." He said hlas he strode past her and stood in front of the grave.

His posture straightened up as he gave a military salute. He kept it for several seconds before falling to his knees, coughing horribly.

Louise ran to Henry falling next to him. "B-Brother?" She asked quietly.

Henry pulled her into a hug abruptly. "I'm sorry for... Lying to you... Lulu." He rasped out.

He looked past her towards the grave, as if he could see someone. He smiled.

"This is good.... Isn't.... It?..." He said before peacefully passing on.

So, was that any good?

Sorry if it seems almost like a rip off, or if its rushed.

I know my reaction is quite delayed, but now I really want to see a scene where Henry tells Isabella that 'Yes, your father really loved you.' Most likely Joseph and Anne are busy fighting in their own bizarre adventure right now. Wonder if we will see them in the flesh again sometime in the future of the story.

Also, I did not realize the purpose of the letters until I reached the middle parts. Then it hit me.

Man Tristain forces are pretty screwed:
1.Their Void Mage and Heavy Wind are not going to fight Henry for love or money.
2.The army is outnumbered and out gunned by the army that they pissed off the commander of repeatably.
3.The land they came to conquer has already surrendered to aforementioned commander.
4.Gallia just got any of the Albion forces that are combat worthy fighting for them.
5.Of the two forces in this conflict only one brought a mobile death fortress.

Omake: The Other Side Of The Coin
Forumites of Noblesse Oblige, I require an omake of Henrietta's POV to feed my schadenfreude!

Welp, I haven't written an omake in a while due to certain distractions (curse you Overwatch and your addicting gameplay!) and since Shade hasn't graced us with Henrietta's POV yet, I will use my meager writing skills to show the mind of everyone's least favorite Teenage Magical Scheming Queen.

Omake: The Other Side Of The Coin

Queen Henrietta let out a loud sigh, her fingers gently rubbing her eye corners. She completely ignored the fact that she breached more than a thousand rules of royal protocol and her teacher in manners was probably cursing her "unladylike" gesture, but after those news she could honestly shove them right in her unmentionables.

Louise Le Blanc de La Valliere had suddenly appeared out of nowhere yesterday and offered her assistance to the crown of Tristain.

That immediately got her suspicious. She had after all, made sure her messengers 'leaked' out the fact that the Heavy Wind would be joining the fight for Albion and the Prince reacted just as she expected, throwing a temper tantrum. Not that she could blame him, it was his own flesh and blood that would be taking the brunt of their 40k enemy.

Contrary to belief from her very gossipy nobles (note to self: she must perform an inspection to weed out the worse ones), she didn't bring their most powerful Square Mage to help with the fight, at least not exactly. She knew that the Prince-Consort had a soft spot for his family, despite his well-deserved runic name and the moment he found out his mother was in the front lines he would either stay out of the fight completely thus ensuring Tristain took all credit for the conquest of Albion or take his frustration out on Reconquista's army. He would not attack them as that would anger Germania and Tristain and as massive and powerful Gallia is, it can't fight a united front from three different countries and win.

Instead of doing all that however, he sends his little sister right into her hands without so much as a peep.

Honestly, she was quite scared right now.

Every plan she tried against him backfired horrifically. First, she decides to stage an 'unwarranted attack' by Albion to his side to spur him into war, she specifically chose the Windland because she knew it would shrug off anything less of a fully powered Elvish attack. Of course, she needed to scare them a bit, thus some weakened Spirit Magic by her new aquaintance was the spark that blew up any chance of peace. Her ships would arrive and open fire after Gallia did and show a united front against the evil tyrant. Unfortunately Henry was no fool and he had seen through her ruse completely, ruining any chances of a Gallian-Tristain alliance against Albion. Founder damnit, why couldn't have he inherited his loyalty from his mother!

She decided to try with his wife, hoping that she would see reason where her husband didn't. All she got were barbed words about her fiancee, her intelligence and rooms that got her dizzy every time she looked at them for more than a second (What kind of person uses different colors for the walls and pillows? Sick and twisted ones, that's who). At least, she got what she actually wanted to know: confirmation that Gallia would be invading Albion soon. Thus she bid her time, gathered her troops and raised the taxes for the upcoming war. They were in reach of the floating isle just in time to see Dardanes burning by the Gallian fleet. Truly, it was a sight from the Founder, as their timely rescue of his beloved men would make the Prince see them in a new and positive light, perhaps rethinking his earlier words.

In a way, it worked, this time he decided to let them have all the glory and fame of destroying Reconquista..... without the help of his experienced and massive army. He would spend the rest of the war in Rosais, pouting like a child whose brother broke his favorite toy. The thought that he was truly Louise's brother did make her giggle a bit, but now was not the time for him to sulk like a spoiled brat. Besides, it's not like he was going to have heavy casualties, between the broken parley and the attack on Rosais and Dardanes he barely lost 50 soldiers, which is astounding as the number should have been in the hundreds or even the thousands, counting only the attacks on the port cities.

She had no choice but to bring out her trump card: Karin the Heavy Wind. She was quite surprised how easy it was to get the old captain on board, just one word that the Prince was found on the front lines fighting a fully armored noble armed with nothing but a flag and she rushed like a demon was on her heels. Her mutterings about 'teaching her fool of a son about combat doctrines personally' made more of her soldiers than she wanted to admit shudder in fright.

In answer she gets the only person she could ever be herself with and her most loyal and best friend in the entire world.

What is he planning this time?

Spank her with a stick every time she does something and offer her a carrot when she leasts expects it, what is his angle? Is he trying to drive her insane or something? Make her low down her defenses, so she will be vulnerable for his final attack, she doesn't know and it pisses her off!

At least Louise is helping her frayed nerves somewhat, even if she refuses to drink any of the refreshments in her tent and checks every shadow as if something will jump out and grab her. Paranoia from her adventures, perhaps? She let her 'mysterious assistant' out of sight of the war camp so he won't attract attention and the wrath of Romalia in her country. Hell, she still doesn't know why he helps her, he doesn't want any money or titles in return claiming they are meaningless and his answer to what he desires is 'something very valuable to you' and that's all.

Grr, stupid handsome people with their enigmatic answers and odd decisions that make her confused, why can't everyone be like her Prince Valiant: honest, kind and so full of passion.

She choked a bit as she thought about her beloved cousin. Wales, Prince Wales.... was not happy with her. Despite the fact that she saved his life and gave him a chance to reclaim his homeland, he is still bitter that she took him away from his people and that every one believes he is an honorless coward. She remember the smile he gave her every time their eyes met, when they made their vows in the Ragdorian Lake under the pale moonlight, when he would call her his 'sweet Anna' and gently peck her forehead as if she was the most precious thing in the world.

Now he referred to her as 'Her Highness' while giving her a smile, not his warm one but the ones he reserved when he talked to nobles he couldn't stand and every time she tried to talk to him, he would say that he had urgent business and leave her alone, as if he couldn't stand the sight of her.

It was then that she realised what Henry wanted to teach her, what it meant to be an actual ruler. No matter how hard you tried, you could never keep everyone happy. Her childish ideals of a utopian Tristain and her marriage with Wales were shattered like cheap glass, because that's all they were worth. She knows and she doesn't like it on bit.

That doesn't mean that she will stop being a Queen.

She will conquer Albion, she will reinstate the Tudor line whether Wales likes it or not, she will marry Albrecht and make Tristain strong, she will make certain her child becomes the ruler she could never become and fulfill her dream of a utopia and if it kills her she will one way or another wipe that condensenting smirk of Henry and his holier-than-thou bitch of a wife. Founder give her strength she will prove to everyone in Halkeginia that Queen Henrietta De Tristain is not somewhat to be crossed with. As soon as Gallia arranges the cease-fire with Reconquista, she will gather all her officers and generals and make them win this damn war in her name, even if it has to be done in a pile of corpses. She will prove she does not need the help of anyone and surpass Henry in the eyes of everyone. Truly, what can he possibly do to turn this in his favor?

"Your Grace, I have important news for you. Reconquista just surrendered the entirety of Albion to the Prince-Consort without a fight. The war is over!"

She didn't know what a good ruler response to that would be, but bugged out eyes, a gaping mouth like a fish followed by a dead faint to the floor was certainly not it.

Gods, her etiquette teacher and Cardinal Mazarin would kill her when they saw her like that.

Henry hasn't dealt with Henrietta well at all. For one thing he mocked her into sabotaging himself, then he missed the two (reasonably straightforward) tricks that she pulled, and now he gives her Louise for some reason - a potentially extremely serious mis-step.

flesh
or something?, make her low down her defenses,
or something? Makes her low her defenses,
condescending - I'm a bit critical on this one because a lot of people got it wrong
Your Grace, I have important rules for you.
Your Grace, I have important news for you - this may not even be the best sentence, she's the highest authority of Tristain, the messenger should not said it like that.

It's a nice omake though @DrMethilon . The part of how Henrietta managed to get Karin to the battlefield is hilarious and very logical for her character in this story, but I'm not sure how the news reached Tristain camp so fast?

Context. Read the bit just before it.
The Prince looked at the letters. Some were meant for him, and it was obvious which ones were.

Others, on the other hand, were not.

"Your highness...you should not be doing this yourself," a young officer spoke timidly, looking up at the Prince who had his shoulders hunched, and was moving from letter to letter without a care. "Your highness, please-I am the one supposed to read through these letters to find the addresses "

"They will need to be answered," the Prince spoke in a soft voice, inches away from cracking. "Bring them to me," he said, his eyes wet with tears. "They deserve an answer, even if it comes from someone as unworthy as me."

"Your highness! No! That's not true!" the officer replied, shaking his head firmly. "We serve his highness because we want to! We were given a choice! We are treated better than anyone else! Your highness-choosing whether to give our lives for uncaring lords, or for his highness, then there isn't even a choice to begin with! Gladly, a hundred times over! If my body can stop just one bullet from hitting his highness! If my legs can walk just one more inch to bring his highness' dreams to fruition! If my shoulders can hold just one more bag! As long as it's for his highness-then it doesn't matter if my life ends!" it was then that the young officer realized his hands were holding those of the Prince.

The Prince looked at the young officer, and smiled. "Thank you," he exhaled. "Then, let us get to it," the Prince made a small smile, and it was enough for the young officer to smile brightly in turn.

Unseen by them, an eye stared, an eye surrounded by a curtain of strawberry blond hair, wicked grinning lips, and a quill at the ready.

No, it forces his mother to protect her and thus protect herself and not go all out in the front.

Omake - Letters to the front lines.

To our most beloved and dear husband, his highness, Prince-Consort Henry Philippe de Gallia, Duke de Brittany,

Today marks the third day of your absence from our bed, and we grow disquieted, sad, grumpy and utterly angry at the lack of your warmth. We are so angry, we began to ponder on heating the bed itself with a stove, but thought better of it at the last moment. Our anger keeps us warm. Our worry keeps us awake. Our love keeps us praying nothing will happen to you. We wish you were here. We wish this stupid war over already with your triumphant victory. We wish you would hold us, and tell us sweet silly things and play word games with us. We wish you would hurry, but in matter of wars I have been taught it's not wise to hurry. We understand, but still-still we refuse to believe such a thing couldn't have been done by someone else! Why-why did you have to go, Henry? A General like Montpassant would have definitely won! Our men are second to none! There would be no need to put yourself in danger-and yet we worry! We cannot help but worry and...and...oh...

The baby just kicked. He's truly a hellion this one-I cannot wait to see him out in all of his, or hers, rosy splendor.
Though if there are two, well, we will decide then.

Please, come back home. Your wife worries, and worrying is not good, definitely not good at all!
In sincere and profound love,

Her Royal Majesty, Queen Isabella de Gallia, first of her name, Ruler of Gallia.

I can't find the key to the shack, Martin!
You'd better write me back as fast as possible, because if I can't get in by the end of the week, I'll have to break it down!
And then who's going to tell mom we couldn't plant her favorite flowers in the garden for next spring as a surprise, because someone forgot to say where he hid the key, uh?
It's not going to be me, no sir!

-

Sir Jones,

we are glad to inform you that your citizenship has been approved, expedite pro-forma, by the decree of His Highness Prince Henry.
You are henceforth a Gallian citizen, and are now granted a variety of privileges as befitting from your status as a knight of His Highness.
A stipend has been set, and your next of kin notified and allowed to withdraw in your place during the duration of the war.
Free education is available for any ages, to anyone of your family members lacking the abilities to read or write.
Hospitals are also available should any fall sick, and as a member of the army, there are discounts to the participation in the social life of the capital-
The list attached to this letter has written upon the name of the establishments that offer such discounts.

Finally, a word from a worried Gallian citizen, which has little to no bearing with the current situation.

Please keep our Prince safe.

In utmost faith,
Robespierre, of the Army Citizenship Bureau.

You enlisted without telling anyone anything!?
You foolish child! You aren't even fourteen yet! Just because you're tall-you! You! I told you we would manage! You didn't have to do this! Your father was going to start working soon enough! The offices of Employment of the Prince-they were looking for a job for him! Even cleaning the streets-as humble as it was, would have been worth it to keep you out of a war!
Why-My heart! Don't think this is over! I'll write directly to the Prince! I'm told he actually answers-think about what you're making me do! Tell the Prince he has a child bundled together with his soldiers!

Get back home as soon as possible, Marie-Antoinette!

-

Jacques,

please remember to stay low. Or I'll tan your hide. We're the only family left.

Your elder sister. Who's assigned to the barracks. Worried sick.

-

Marceline,

you shouldn't have bought the house.
No, it doesn't matter that the Prince will actually give us a year of your stipend if you die, or that you'll pay it in intervals if not.
You aren't allowed to die, you silly oaf! Get back soon, your brothers miss you.

Dad.

-

My little sparrow,

oh, how I miss your tender caresses! Please, tell me that war will not change you!
I cannot wait for the day my arms shall hug you tight, never to let you go!
Our golden cage awaits us both, but with you by my side, it will be the coziest of homes!
Yours with lots of love,

your little redbird.

-

Father,

I received a visit from some of your friends who stayed behind. Why did you tell them to check on me?
I'm a grown-up lady! I'm already twelve, and I can read and write! Mister Lucien says you were worried, but about what?
Isn't the Prince taking good care of you? You always say that, don't you? I know it's just you and me, and without you, this house's empty...

Please come back soon.

-

Mother this is foolishness! Going to war at your age! The Prince must be mad to allow it!
You'll be dealing with supplies alone, right? Checking things on registers-stuff like that.
Please stay safe.
You're the only mother I have.

-

Dear François,

when you said you would prove your love to me, I was reticent to believe you.
Yet I admit, my heart did flutter so at your sight when you stood tall and proud marching off into the Prince's flying fortress.
That friend Henry of yours kept rubbing his elbow against your side, and remarking on how you were lucky to have caught my interests.
He spoke to me in confidence later, you know? He told me of your passions for poetry and art-such a refined thing I wouldn't have expected from the likes of you.
Perhaps I was too hasty to judge you a dumb mule and nothing more.

I would not be against being courted by you,
in good faith,
Jacqueline.

-

I am happy you are happy.
Writing is hard.
Be good and back soon.
Grandpa.

-

Oh Cecile!
You wouldn't believe what happened the other day! I was walking down the street and there was Miss Penance doing the rounds, yes, you know who I am talking about, that old hag who keeps asking for ecus day after day! Well, wouldn't you know it, I saw those Gendarmes head towards her like the devil was behind them! I could swear they were both going to tackle her to the ground and break her in a hundred different pieces, but instead-instead it seems they were looking for her because they were her sons!
Oh, the poor dear lost her mind in old age, and one day she just went and hitched a passage and got lost!
It was such a touching scene because the two didn't let her go at all! There they were, two grown-up men, crying like babies!
How's this war going? You managed to catch the attentions of a promising young officer?
Write back to me with all the juicy stuff soon, please.

-

Son, I am disappointed.
I did not grow you up to be irresponsible like this! You-You infringed on poor Anne's purity did you not?
She is now with child, and claims it is yours! You two were always close, but to go this far before you were called to war!
Truly! When you get back -and make no mistake, you will- prepare to be whopped on your ass like the child you apparently still are!
There will be no forgiveness from my shoes this time! And then you are going to make things all proper and marry her!
I also wrote to your Prince. Knowing his fame, he'll push you into a cannon and fire you right back here faster than you can say 'What'.
Good honest fellow, your Prince. Maybe he can put you straight.
Remember to wear the wool mittens and scarf I knitted for you.
Albion's cold, isn't it?

I was listening to sad music when I clicked my alert for this update. I had no idea it would fit the tone, I was think 'oh, how sweet', and then it fucking dawned on me, and the world fell out underneath me, and Shade godfuckingdamn that is not okay

The music in question:

No he really has not, Henrietta has trashed her reputation, pissed off the heavily armed neighbor, tossed her army into a fight it cannot win, and has no exit plan. Assuming she keeps trying to marry Wales in defiance of all common sense Henry is going to sit down with Germiania over how to split up her country between them. In return she managed to highly annoy Henry for one afternoon.

I wonder if the elf Henrietta hired (maybe) will try to attack Louise when he senses the Void within her, resulting int he Reconquista/Gallian peace ceremony being interrupted by a panic Tristain messenger begging for aid against the demon.

This is the price of commanding
You always stand alone,
Let no one near
To see the fear
Behind the mask you've grown
This is the price of commanding

This is the price of commanding
That you watch your dearest die,
Sending women and men
To fight again,
And never tell them why
This is the price of commanding

This is the price of commanding
That mistakes are signed in red
And you won't pay
But others may,
And your best may wind up dead
This is the price of commanding

This is the price of commanding
The deaths that haunt your sleep
You hope they forgive
And so you live
With thier memories buried deep.
This is the price of commanding.

This is the price of commanding
That if you won't, others will.
So take your post,
Salute each ghost
You've a debt to them to fill
This is the price of commanding.
This is the price of commanding.
This is the Price of commanding.

Henrietta's reputation isn't in tatters, she has a regent to shift blame on after all. The nobles might start some troubles and think her inexperienced and weak, but they also present a good target to disprove any such notion.

Hardly. Pissed off the heavily armed neighbor, sure, but given how pissy Henry was being that was a given. But the rest? Her reputation is intact, at best they think she's kinda opportunistic in a realpolitik way, which is more likely to get her respect than to lose it. Henry is the one who believes her to be in cahoots with an elf, and even he only has conjecture. And of those he shared, Karin is not going to downright turn traitor over it unless Henrietta forces her into a no-win situation, and Louise is mostly a personal loss for Henrietta, not a political one.

Tossed her army into a fight it cannot win? What fight? If Reconquista hadn't surrendered to Gallia she was fairly safe in assuming that Henry would end being forced to help her due to his mother also being in the fight (not that Karin needed the help, but it'd be the principle of the matter). Yes, she was wrong about that, but only really because Henry had a necromantic mind control him and was willing to throw himself down the slippery slope just to spite her.

Exit plan? Except for the surrender that came completely out of left field the only things really in play here would be the lives of some commoners and how much of Albion would go to Gallia and how much would go to Tristain and cia. Even if we take the most generous interpretations of her, she's not a modern character who got reincarnated, she doesn't have such modern sensibilities, and without both Agnes and Saito to interact with, she didn't even get enough interaction with commoners for her view to really change. Their lives are not going to be of that much importance to her, at least not in specific.

Henry could have easily sat back and let both them bash each other down, the last person in danger would be his mother/WMD. Henry would then be able to steamroll over the winner and Karin would rather burn Tristian to the ground rather than fight Henry.

More like the reputation of Tristain in Gallia would be trashed after what they see as claiming credit for their victories. Tristain would be getting nothing if Gallia decides to push the point and roll over whatever is left. Those commoners and minor nobles they lose matter if they comprise your armed forces, forces you need to keep the pissed off heavily armed Gallia off your back.
