No One Stands On the Sky: An Aizen Quest (Bleach) (DEAD)

I very nearly put in:
[]You oblige. It's not your money you're gambling right? Plus if you win Lisa might think you're cooler.
-[] Only if he agrees to private Kido lessons.

But I thought that'd be pushing.
[X]You refuse. The last time you got drunk in the presence of the eleventh division it ended poorly and money wasn't involved that time.

Nah, I doubt that Aizen'd be able to come out with more money than he started with when he purposely wants to get drunk, and getting in debt to the mafia a Division Captain is no good.

We're physically immortal spirit samurais. We can pay off whatever we lose tonight, if Shunsui's even the type to make a deal about it. Which he's not.
That's an unseated officer's yearly income. We're being commissioned straight out of the academy, that's not even a question at this point. We'll have the money.

Edit: Screw it, I'm adding it in.

Alrighty, canon shikai it is. That leaves three questions that probably should be answered - and the earlier the better:
  1. How open should he be about having shikai, and when?
  2. What should his shikai "be"?
  3. How open should he be about #2?
Canonically, Aizen pretended his shikai was far less than it was, but seemed to be fairly open about that fake nature. Should the Aizen of this quest do the same? If so, should he go for the same deception?

Quest Aizen is already being cagey, but I don't think we should be canon levels of secret. Mostly because it doesn't matter. If we release in a public place with all the captains around, it doesn't matter long term if they know or not.

Canon already shows how broken the illusions can be even with everyone and anyone clued in and trying to counter the ability. We don't have to make that much work for ourselves.
That doesn't mean we have to tell everyone though.

1. People already see us with injuries, everyone knows we're advanced. I say we take it public once everyone in our little circle is clued in. We'll have to rip off the bandaid at some point. If we wanted to be inconspicuous, we screwed that up a long time ago.

2. In canon, he could pass it off as a water Zanpakuto as a Liuetenant. That tells me that we probably don't have to have an answer this very moment. If you guys want to do the canon gambit, that's cool.

But I'd rather we go with the illusion clones instead, it's closer to the truth, and we can actually demonstrate it at our present skill.

Though we probably don't actually have to show anyone for a long time. Even in canon, the Water-Suigetsu lie was a demonstration for students, hardly a required situation. Given how cagey many shinigami are about their abilities, we could get by never having an answer to #2.

3. I think I already answered this on accident, but I think being cagey is alright in this case. Zanpakutos are finicky and fickle. Kyoka Suigetsu won't take offense to us never saying a word if we don't have to.
That's what I think in public.
I think being truthful with our friends is a first step to not being Canon-Aizen 100%. Having a core group, who can keep a secret is an attractive idea to me. Secrets band people together. That means Isshin, Sei, Tosen, Lisa right now, I think. Unless I missed anyone.

"I... don't need glasses anymore do I?" Possibilities flood your head. Perhaps this ability means true freedom to live your own path.

I never thought about this explanation. Eh, at least now I know Aizen didn't remove his glasses to look cool. Though I like that headcanon....

It's Shinsui. He won't be offended. We must milk this opportunity for all it's worth!

Woo, more drunken shenanigans! :D

This is with literally my favorite Captain, so YES.

I wonder if Shunsui will become jaded enough that he'll want to join our inevitable revolution?

I wonder if Shunsui will become jaded enough that he'll want to join our inevitable revolution?
My Headcanon:

If you look closely he already is. At least that was my read of things in the last arc.

The vibe I get from some of the oldest captains is that of a weary caretaker.
They've made their peace with the stagnation of the system, they know Central 46 is corrupt and arbitrary, Yama probably knows all the dirt behind the Zero Squad, the Soul King, and Ichibei and they all have too much blood on their hands collectively (or in the case of Yama and Unohana, individually) to just switch streams when there's no stream to switch to.
They're all a little too deep to pull out, and because they either believe in the value of the stability of things as they are, they know how unbelievably powerful the roadblocks to progress are* or at least understand the utter lawlessness of the (possible) alternative, they abide the peace, no matter how distasteful it is personally.

Plus, Yama is the lynchpin for this whole deal. At least on this side of Soul Society.
All the Captains that would ever be able to oppose the system have direct personal ties to Yamamoto, asking Shunsui to fight the system is like asking him to kill his master. Because Yama will defend the system with his life. No matter the cost, he's a burning fossil that exists to uphold the order.

*Shunsui knows about Zero Squad, he might not have details, but he understands the power scale if nothing else. Ichibei is (probably) one of the original Shinigami that imprisoned the Soul King in the first place. That's to say nothing of the rest of Zero Squad.
They are physical gods for all practical purposes and everything Aizen did in the series was absolutely necessary to even have had a chance against them. They're no joke at all.

Which is why I hope there's a way to co-op the Noble Houses instead of going to war, because we would lose 90 times out of 80.

EDIT:

Also, we should remember that the one time that Shunsui thought he had a solid suspicion to go rogue, he and Ukitake blew up the Sokyoku and had a sparring match with Yamamoto.
That was independent of any of the Ryoka, I'm pretty sure.
Shunsui definitely has it in him, but I think it has to be the right kind of rebellion.

He's a romantic, and the Rukia situation was right up his alley. There couldn't have been a better tragedy;
"The loyal soldier come home to be executed."
"She's locked in a cage to repent for sins she hasn't committed, her cell is guarded by the friends she's made in her service, and her executioners are the commanders under which she served. She accepts her fate, with reservation and humility."

That's Shunsui's whole motif. And when the time came he rose to the call, damn near alone with just him, Ukitake and their direct subordinates.

My only point against that is that it was a small rebellion, it didn't threaten any of the institutions of Soul Society existentially (I would say directly too, but the Sokyoku was actually a big deal even if we don't think about it much). The only demand was a fair trial or a more proportional punishment. When that failed, they nullified an unjust ruling by killing their execution tool. Meaning that a death by Sokyoku couldn't be carried out.

Anything Aizen does is going to be a lot more thorough, it's much harder to be diplomatic when your enemies aren't willing to be talked down.

While i'm working on this update I'm gonna put out a bounty for omakes: 100xp for anything from the perspective of a redshirt/normal person in aizens class and 200(since there's literally nothing in canon to go on) for anything about the living Quincy during this period. You'll get an extra 50xp if I make it canon. The bounty expires on friday.

What year is it exactly?

Edit: Is this your way of calling the vote?

Oh yeah Voting is closed.

It's 1820CE right now in the human world (I've spent far too much time thinking about the raw chronology of Bleach, to be honest).

Is it alright to use historical figures as characters? Example:
Hans Christian Orsted accidentally discovered the electromagnetic effect while trying to make Quincy tech.

?

You're going to base your Omake in Europe?

I'm just asking because I'm kind of scared to leave Japan, I figured Quincies would mostly be a thing among Dutch Traders.

Haven't the Quincy spread worldwide by now?
Headcanon:
I figured Quincy should be on the high end of their Modern Era decline.

There's enough for them to be organized and become a problem but in raw numbers they're nowhere close to where they used to be. That doesn't mean they can't be world wide, I would just think that in Japan itself, the extermination would have been extra thorough so Quincies in Japan would be off to the margins.

Edit:

Quincies have never been that numerous. They're Fantasy Jews, after all.

My knowledge of 1820's Japan is even less than that of Europe. I figured it would be easier to write a story in the West.

Same here, but wikipedia is your friend. I'm interested to see what you come up with.
