I was curious as I just can't think of anything else that amping one's telepathy and clairvoyance would be used for. And without knowing what to use it for, I'm more than a little weary about using the thing.

I don't think it's something we're intended to interact with directly.

[x] Go to the Temple, jump up to the Torizo and scan it.

[X] Try to get to the middle left entrance in the Central Garden using the high jump and the plants.

[] Proceed to the Save Station 2-A & Save. Head to the right through the Central Garden to the unexplored room beneath the Host Access

[X] Check the torizo in the upper temple.

...

Its tempting, but you decide that perhaps it might not be the best idea to use the psi-amp when there's a telepathic murder virus around. Instead, you turn around and go through the door into the temple.

Once again, the barrier shield blinks out and a pair of greater holtzes rocket through, each carrying one of their lesser kin. For a moment, you wonder if the Patrician has already lost control of the area again, but less than a second later you understand. Before the first flier can even make it into the center of the room, the namihes on either side of it woosh open and nail it with twin bolts of blazing hot plasma. The greater holtz shrieks, recoiling up toward the vaulted ceiling, heavily damaged. The lesser it was carrying has been reduced to slag. The second one tries to drop its cargo toward you, but one holtz shoots the latter out of the air, while the other damages its carrier.

You stride out below the gap and fire three missiles. Dropping the damaged greater holtz's back into the namihes' line of fire. They don't make it to the floor, at least not in a solid state ( MISSILES 44/55).

With that situation resolved, you step onto the central altar and crane your head back at the perched torizo. Unfortunately, its slightly too high for you to jump. Instead, you lock on with your scan visor and, once you think you've made telepathic contact, speak your command.

"Tekili-li!"

The statues eyes shimmer, the appearance of stone shifting away as the orbs turn liquidy. With a slow, shuddering motion, it warms itself up and shifts its bionetic components out of stasis. A moment later, it stands up. "Tekili-li!" it answers.

Then, it leaps down from its platform and turns to face you, before crouching back down on the altar, holding its hands out. Its internals shift again, and it goes back to sleep in its new position.

Oh. Oh! This is how we get into the room directly above - it'll throw us through the shaft the unlight is coming through!

[X] Morph into a ball and climb into the Torizo's claws.

Huh... how much control do we actually have over it? If we can give it more complex commands...

Fast ball special into the skylight? There is an area above this one, And if we can command it to throw us in our morphball forem straight up, we could easily reach that area.

[X] Morph into a ball and climb into the Torizo's claws.
-[x] if possible to command it, order it to throw us straight up through the hole in the roof.

-[X] Try other commands if possible.

The statue's palms close around you. You feel a brief surge of power, as it tries to restore your defensive energy, but as you're already at full it gives up momentarily. Then, it stands up and leaps back up to its original place on the balcony before crouching down again, releasing its grip on you, and going back to sleep.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to respond to any other commands you give it. It must have been GIVEN more to do than just this, but either its makers didn't tell the Patrician how to use those functions, or the Patrician hasn't told you.

Or its just waiting for some future contingency to perform its real function, and helping people upstairs is a secondary task.

[x] Go through the door to the upper left.

Past the shielded door, you find yourself at the foot of a series of ramps. On either side of the room, and by a platform suspended from the ceiling, are alcoves in the walls, each containing a mural and crowned by a stone bust. A row of nodules along the ceiling contain bioluminescent organisms like those in the temple, each few oriented toward one of the shrine platforms.

Three lesser holtzes drop from the ceiling and charge toward you.

Err.. I don't think we can bait them through the door. There is a force field on the other side and they are not that dumb to charge into a visibly instant death. Nor any real reason to do so... standard tactics should work quite well in this room.
[x] default tactics. Freeze and blast them.

[X] Bait them out of the room and let the nahime kill them.

(rolled 84, 83, 70)

You stand in the door, letting the scuttling drones come within leaping distance, and then back away through it, causing the barrier shield to flicker away. One by one in quick succession, they launch themselves through, and you duck to the side out of the doorframe. Two of them die instantly when they enter the namihe's line of sight. The last you easily freeze and shatter with the power beam.

With the enemies cleared, you return to the Hall of Shrines.
