Mercenary Company Quest (CK2 Quest)

[] Plan Stay Focused
- [] Patrolling the Site (Thamara)
- [] Vampire Hunting (Alexis, Tasha)

We're here to kill the vampire. So that's what we'll do. Her zombies and skeletons are gone, and we've got her strategic objective under our control, so if we don't find her, she has to come to us. If the villagers are having orgies in their basements or doing tax fraud or whatever, that's really none of our business.

The only problem is if she finds more zombies and skeletons. But investigating random villagers isn't really going to solve that problem. I was considering sending Tasha to get reinforcements, and/or having Thamara do logistics, but that'll leave either the vampire hunting effort or the fragment unsupported.

I'd like to wait until reinforcements are available from the Priesthood (or Daven, or Jorgard) are available to take over guarding the site before we go hunting. That way, Toldur can be freed up, and he's our best combatant (+2 Martial over Alexis while he has the Blessing of Mirra.)

A double-team of Toldur and Alexis is something I'd feel much safer in fighting Lena with. Our other characters aren't specced for fighting.

It could be a problem, if Thamara (our steward) patrols on her own and then suddenly encounters the vampire…

Thamara: "Aha! I found you, monster. Finally."

Lena: "Indeed, foolish mortal. You found me. What are you going to do about it now?"

Thamara: "…Crap, I hadn't thought about that!"

Lena: "NOM NOM NOM NOM!"

Better wait until we can dedicate Toldur and/or his Ironsides to the task.

Yeah, I was thinking of putting Alexis on the patrols, but if I do that, then no investigating the village leadership.

Then again, seems a lot of people aren't very interested in that anyway.

Edit:
[ ] Plan Secure the Perimeter!
-[ ] [Thamara] The People of Oriva
-[ ] [Alexis] Patrolling the Site
-[ ] [Tasha] The Kingdom of Daven

Alright, alternative plan. Puts our other good combatant on patrolling. Thamara's orders have her talking to the People of Oriva. It's a 5/6 chance of success, and maybe it'll help us get a better idea of what's going on that has the villagers so spooked and if it's something we should be worried about.

The patrol action will be linked to the guarding of the site. Any fight will involve everyone guarding it and patrolling just gives you some extra firepower there/increases the DC for taking action against it.

In that case,

[X] Plan Something's Rotten

-[X] [Alexis] Investigating the Local Leadership
-[X] [Tasha] The Kingdom of Daven

Voting to figure out whether the local leadership is up to something we need to worry about or if there's nothing to fear on that end. The stakes are too high to take chances.

Looks Good!

Why are we investigating the town? We should have Alexis on patrol as well, bunker down until we get reinforcements.

In order to avoid a (possible) stab in the back, at the most inopportune moment. Some townsfolk have been acting weird lately, and there's something in the air…

For some reason, I'm starting to think about Lovecraft. We are not in a town full of cultists who secretly praise some kind of eldritch abomination, right?

I don't notice any signs that the villagers will betray us. Even if the leaders suddenly turn on us for some reason, the milita wouldn't go along because we would slaughter them.
Additionally, all we have to do is protect the site until reinforcements arrive, at which point we probably win. Alexis is one of our best fighters, we want her to help protect the thing we have to defend

No, they have not. The village headwoman acted in a manner that was potentially suspicious that has plenty of mundane explanations while the general atmosphere of the village is tense in a very tense situation.

That would have been detected long before you arrived.

This implies something else is going on. What, we don't know, which is a problem......

Such an economic crisis afflicting the kingdom or maybe the prince did something before he left or perhaps something happened in the village that means something to the locals, but an outsider wouldn't grasp or something criminal done by the village risks exposure or is going poorly. Now Thamara is certain something is going on and that something could be vampire related. Or it could also be unrelated to your job and not your concern due to not being a local of the village.

It could go either way. Just don't start assuming it has to be related to whatever the vampire is up or the inverse of it being unrelated to whatever the vampire is up to. It has deliberately been left ambiguous.

Investigating the Locals only has a 1/3 chance of success. Additionally, it means that our second-best fighter is not helping to protect the shard of an evil god that we need to protect at all costs.

Taking the People of Oriva option has a 2/3 chance of success, and will probably reveal the source of tension if it is something mundane or not actually bad for us. If it is bad for us, then we can proceed to do the investigation option next week. Additionally, even if something bad is going on in the village, they realistically cannot do much to us, since we would mostly all be guarding the site, and not be in town where a theoretical bad guy could try to poison us. Even if the town leaders ordered an attack on us, the militia would get slaughtered if they tried to attack us.

Edit: Mixed up stats, Alexis has 15 intrigue score. As such Investigating the Locals has equal chance as People of Oriva

I'm ok with this, although money is an issue, but we have a little padding. There's a pretty good chance the vampire comes to us.
