Week 4, Floric 4-3997
[X] The Jorgardians go hunting for Lena while Alexis guards the site.

In the end, the choice is simple. Leave the injured Alexis as the last line of defence for the ruins while the rest of you put a stop to Lena Cosmili.

The vampire has been allowed to run about for too long and the stakes are too high for you to just get away with her plans. You only got half a dozen Jorgardians with you, but that will be enough to get the job done. It has to be.

The hunt started off simple enough thanks to your quarry not even bothering to hide. It seems that spending the last few weeks guarding the site means that Lena expected you to continue doing that. While it would be inaccurate to say that she was taken by surprise when you marched into Oriva, the vampire certainly was not expecting it and had made no effort to hide from you.

Your march to the village hall was uncontested as the people of Oriva had no interest in picking a fight with your heavily armed band even if they watched you warily, clutching their own weapons. When you did reach the village hall, Lena Cosmili is still inside as she recovers from the injuries that Alexis inflicted on her.

"Lena Cosmili!" you roared when you strode into the village hall where the floor was still cracked and the roof partially broken.

The undead woman was an ugly sight. Most of her upper body was in a varying state of being burnt away and when the vampire moved, it was with a limp. She was without a doubt still a deadly threat, but your Dragonborn companion had left a mark on Lena, something you were grateful for and would owe her a drink over if you survived this.

"By the Dark Lord," hissed Lena as she glared at you, "Why is now of all times that you finally do something?"

"I would say surrender or die," you retorted as you drew your sword, your fellow Jorgardians doing the same behind you, "But we all know how that would go."

"Indeed," sneered Lena or at least she tried to with what remained of her face.

She raised a hand at you, lightning gathering in it, but your hunters were quicker. Both crossbow bolts struck true, one to the palm of her hand while the other hit her in the leg. With a howl of fury, Lena unleashed a blast of wind, but it was unfocused and between your shield, your armour and proper footing, all of you weathered it without difficulty.

Your group splits up, two of you on either flank while the hunters hang back with clear shots down the centre. You have the advantage of numbers and you intend to make full use of it. As powerful as she is, Lena cannot focus on all of you at once and with her army gone, she has no forces capable of bogging you down.

"No!" screeches Lena and she throws a series of black bolts at both of your archers.

You don't look back, trusting your Ironsides to handle themselves as you charge Lena Cosmili, the other Jorgardians with you doing the same. She throws up a black barrier to shield one flank, but that leaves her other flank exposed and that is one that you are on.

You swing and Lena parries with a black spellblade, but barely so and the vampire leaves herself exposed for your Ironside to slam their mace down on her other arm. Stumbling to the side, Lena raises her hand again, forming another spell in it. You don't get her a chance to finish, cutting the whole hand off with a swish of your sword.

Snarling in frustration, Lena staggers backwards and you begin to appreciate how tough vampires are. Oh, it won't save her, but your foe has taken a few crippling or even fatal blows without so much as a flinch.

Two crossbow bolts strike her in the chest, knocking Lena back another step as you surround her from all sides as those on the other flank have walked around the barrier that the vampire put up.

You move first, stabbing her in the chest. An Ironside smashes a mash into the side of her head, partially caving in the skull while another slices off her lower leg at the knee whilst the last of your Ironsides hacks her arm off. You pull your sword out in time for someone to behead Lena and that is the end of it.

Down a head, hand, lower leg and a whole arm, Lena Cosmili has fallen and while it is possible for another vampire to restore her back to unlife from what remains of her corpse now, it won't be once you have finished burning her remains.

Now, you just need to find the rest of your company, get Alexis patched up and get someone to deal with the Fragment of Vrondrunt that is nowhere near as secure as it should be.

For those wondering, the lack of a vote is intentional. I am been thinking about it for a while and I am going to end the quest here or at least put it on indefinite hiatus. I definitely want to return to this quest or at least the setting someday, but the mechanics which worked well-ish for the early game just aren't scaling up as I like when things have progressed.

Since I have other ideas that I am interested in trying out and I don't particularly fancy trying to reorganise this quest into something more workable at the moment, I'm going to call an end to this quest now that the current arc is over.

Now that is out of the way, Toldur and his fellow Jorgardians wrecked Lena. She would have put up more of a fight without her injuries, but as it was, it was a matter of how badly she hurt you on the way out. The answer turned out to be 'not at all'.

I intend to post something of epilogue to show what Toldur's Ironsides will be up to after the events of this job, but this quest is going to be wrapping up for the foreseeable future.

Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to. Feel to ask questions for more details and information.

Week 2, Daen 4-3997/The Epilogue
"So what is the plan for the future?" asks Thamara as she, you, Tasha and Alexis sit around a table at one of the dining halls in Ironpeak, the Jorgardian hold that your company is currently holed up in.

It has been a couple of weeks since Lena Cosmili was slain and while you and your Ironsides stuck around a bit as Carlos and his fellow Nireans made sure to secure the Fragment of Vrondrunt, you were all too happy to get out of the Kingdom of Daven.

Their economy was still a mess with no resolution in sight and even worse, inflated prices were beginning to spread aboard into the Angland League as the Davenites sought buy goods from aboard. Having already bled a lot of coin in the last job, you were quite happy to get out of there.

Fortunately, things are better here in Jorgard. A quick word with Thane Yrsa Copperhelm and you got permission for your Ironsides to stay in Ironpeak until you set off on your next job. It won't completely cover your expenses, but the free housing and food is doing a lot to save you some coin even if you are still a long way from running out.

"Got a couple of jobs that I am looking at," you tell her after a bit of your mushroom biscuit, "Some rich Larian noble is willingly to pay good coin for some Jorgardian bodyguards to look after his daughter and then more locally, Thane Yrsa has informed me that Jarl Valiantsteel is planning an expedition to one of the lost holds to recover what remains in it."

"Which hold?" inquires Tasha as Alexis continues scoffs down the roast chicken that she has ordered.

"Yet to be determined," you answer, "The Jarl himself has yet to make a choice, but it is almost certainly going to be one we lost back when the Elder Gods still ruled so expect it to be a tough one."

"Why?" asks Alexis as the Dragonborn looks up from her half-devoured chicken, "The Elder Gods were overthrown thousands of years ago. What could make some abandoned place dangerous after so long?"

"Jorgardian holds do not fall easily Alex," says Tasha, "Whatever is capable of laying one low is a very dangerous thing and if we are talking about one that fall to the forces of the Antera, then there is a good chance of whatever caused the hold to fall to remain within it.

"Exactly," you confirm, "If the hold would be easy to reclaim, it would have already been done."

"Going to take that job?" inquires Thamara as she eyes your mushroom biscuit with an expression of slight disgust.

"Maybe," you say, "Depends how long the Jarl takes putting it together. Another month or two might be worth waiting for it, but longer than that and I will look into something else to get some coin into our coffers."

"No guarding merchants I hope," says Tasha, taking a sip of her wine.

"We are a bit pricey for that," you say, "It is good to get some more recruits, but a score of Jorgardians is a bit out of the price range of your average merchants and given what we have to offer now, it won't be a poor use of whatever pay we demand."

"A score of Jorgardians would certainly fetch a high price," says Thamara between sticking bacon into her mouth, "Hopefully we can make some good coin even if expenses will certainly be higher."

"To a bright future," you say.

"To a bright future," the rest of your companions agree.

And this is the epilogue. The situation has been dealt or at least it has as far as Toldur's responsibilities go and now he and his Ironsides have withdrawn to a Jorgardian hold to get a break and figure out where to go forward.

Thank you for the story. I, for one appreciate that it came to a conclusion (bonus: we won!), and wish you luck in your future storytelling endeavors.
