This then tended to light the prototype on fire.
"Small details, development bugs... a little bit with some fire..."
a very robust firewall,
"The test pilots insisted, for some reason." :V
The first corollary you'd learned to Newton's second law was simple: entropy begets breakage.
Yeah, if you've got loose power output in a system, it's going somewhere, and that somewhere is usually 'overstressing parts or systems yyou don't want to be'.

[X] [Engine] You need to find something to throw more power in there. (Work on developing engine power next update)
[X] [Transmission] Break the rules as explained to you and play the rules as written, and use the Arignée transmissions.

I get the feeling we're going to need the horsepower, since fighting weight is going to be an issue from other things. So we find a way to get the most out of our already underwhelming engine (how we must envy the Germans and Americans!) and get a decent transmission into this thing, and we're 2/3rds of the way out of the bigger problems of this prototype.

Okay next time if we are given mandatory parts we need to know the details of them before we pick our overall plan. Because this engine and transmission bascly screams that we should have gone with a light weight chicken walker.

[X] [Engine] Keep working with the 500 horsepower out. You're on track to not need too much more than that if you're careful. (Engine is considered settled.)
[X] [Transmission] Rebuild your power splitter, except not garbage this time.

The engine is fine guys, the reason we're losing out on horsepower is our transmission bleeding it through incorrectly due to our awful splitter. I say we keep with the engine and either rebuild the splitter or mod the transmission itself.

This is why you got a chance to switch projects before picking out contractors. Y'all went into this knowing that there'd be transmission issue and an underpowered engine, and nobody wanted to conduct U-turn back towards sanity. Nothing I can do about that.

I mean, the engine is fine at 500 bhp. The problem is, it was advertized at 610 bhp and that's a lot of missing horses.

(how we must envy the Germans and Americans!)

Y'all will be importing American engines at some point, and that's about the time the Jaws theme starts playing.

Touche'. Still, if we don't NEED something like that but add it anyway, we're cutting our weight budget for a relatively minor uptick. Considering we can get to our intended top speed with the engine we have, a better one would only really be good for pushing past that into unsafe speed and acceleration/deceleration.

Then again I've probably missed something crucial anyway. Also I just realized I argued my point to the only neutral party in the whole quest. Huh.

... oh my god we've been going at it the wrong way the power output to all the legs is simple.... we need a transfer case ya know like a 4x4.

So for engine there is a bunch of small stuff we can do to improve horsepower. Re-work the exhaust, valve covers, carburetor, cam shaft, pistons and the block itself.

Your current divider is basically a series of transfer cases, yes. There's also a transfer case that pulls off the engine-transmission driveshaft that powers the gyro as well.

Don't worry about the discussion, that's half the fun of writing one of these. That said, the topic of 'intended top speed' is a bit fluffy, since I never gave a target speed. More importantly, more power also directly means more possible stability: gyros being driven off the engine. While you can't get more stability by running a faster gyro in this mecha at present time, if you were having critical stability issues in a bipedal mech (that the system was designed around...) then you could generally solve the issue very quickly by getting a new gyro.

Just remember: everything is theoretical until the mecha hits the prototyping grounds!

We can't get mired in two different problems at once, keep the engine and work on the transmission

I've just been assuming 35 is our target top speed because that's what the feet are rated for. Although I do see the reason for using a beefier engine for gyros and the other components.

The feet are weight limiting, and have never been speed limiting. Unrealistic, but a necessary abstraction for my sanity.

The engine's even worse than advertised, and the transmission just isn't designed for this purpose. Everything else in the mech seems to work, but doing half measures on either of these problems seems to be too risky to me.

That is a horse. Yves has designed a robot horse. what is even the point of this design, when you could just use a guy on a horse instead? At least horses are smart enough that you can go hands-off to yell over the radio without them ramming themselves into a tree.
Should have gone with a two-man crew Centaur.
