Is this the famed "Whiskey's malay accent that aggros everything within a mile to punch him"? It is working I can tell you :mob:. And I would if only I could stop laughing so much.

Oh, and every journey that starts with bacon can only end well.

Oh, Ahri. We need to put that meat on that bones.
Among other things, but yes. That's potentially the easiest thing to fix.

That's not a malay accent, that's Salt Admiral being utterly ass at speedtyping on a phone. :V Note how the typing improves dramatically towards the end, where Yui guesses he's given his phone to his adjutant and he's dictating.

....the cancer malay accent will appear in a later update, that much I can promise. Complete with audio.

Oh thank the gods its back.

Now having looked at the options, we need to be Measured and while not Involved not distant as well. Quite frankly I'm not trusting the tutors if this is the level of education she has been getting, but we also cannot helicopter.

[ ] Measured. She's made some improvements, but she still has a long way to go.

Seems clear, we don't want her to be TOO satisfied and stop doing more. A taste of approval and then pull it away to keep her wanting more.

[ ] Involved. You'll effectively be Ahri's surrogate parent, directly overseeing her education and life. You're giving up a good amount of independence, anchoring yourself to nurture Ahri.

Given how hurt she is, she really does need the surrogate parent..

This is currently my favourite combo. Though I could support Harsh or Present as well.
Definitely not both though.

I will note, for those expecting space battles, that the more inv9lved you are in Ahri's life, the less you are going to be able to go out and do stuff on your own. Recall Yui's comments on delegation.

I think i will also do an infodump post later.on the agrndas of our MC and spell thibgs out becausr i thibk the chargan was too subtle. :/

GOOD STORY BTW

Hrrm. Okay soo this sounds like part of 'hard mode' right here.
Do I think Ahri will need professional help? Eh. Iffy? I DO think it needs to be SOMEONE who can dedicate their time towards the job properly though... And I actually kind of think giving some time to the Empress should be what Yuki does.
What part of me wants to do is see if she knows any Sumeragi kiddies to buddy with. 'But it's Sumeragi!' You say? Well yeah, but getting those unruly foxes back on board with the greater 'Empire' idea instead of growling at the throne they don't have is one way to quiet them...
Alright. Salty's something to watch, because Sumeragi's got hooks in him good. And because he's in with Sumer we can expect them to try and press the Empress. It's why pairing Ahri off with say, Sumeragi commoner girls her age would be an almost ideal way to do it- it gets them in with our Empress via 'we're puppeteers get her!' and because it's some rando instead of say, a prepped Sumeragi Professional Courtier who's ready to convince her to just smile and accept it when Sumeragi comes by to ask her something, she can learn to stand up for the Throne, push back against someone else's demands instead of getting out-foxed.

Ah Hell.

My inclination is to stick around and be there for Ahri to bring her out of her funk. Marching her to Empress status would probably see her want to die of heartbreak and make her resent Yui.

But how does leading Ahri by the tail look from the outside? Making her more reliant on Yui is loading more shells into the 'jail Yui' cannon aimed at is.

well to be fair, it's only been 2 weeks in universe so y'alls still havent tilted the IRG into arresting you. yet.

also because politics SSR is represented mechanically by QM massaging the story to preventing you frommgetting arrested 2 weeks in

IRG factionalism will be alluded to later in the next Ayako side

yes i crazy fool i write side first then update

Yeah uh we're gonna need to stick around. Right now Yui needs a caretaker who she doesn't have to hide anything from, and we're about it for the job unless Uncle Johnny wants to hang up his admiral hat to come to the palace and make matza or something. Practically speaking if shit starts up our first response should be a mass paperwork check before we warm up the battleships.

"Also," you say, "I was thinking, maybe I could have dinner with you and then stay over tonight? We could have a sleepover and fluff our tails and have some girltalk, it's been far too long-"

"YES!" squeals Ahri, jumping in the air. "I mean, I'd like that, onee-sama," she hastily corrects herself.

"Alright," you say, smiling at her. "But there's something you need to do for me first."

"Anything!"

"I want you to review with me the homework I gave you two weeks ago."

Ahri visibly deflates; you chuckle softly and pat her head. She retaliates by resuming her death grip and burying her face in your bust.
Ah, I missed this. Given, I read this only a short time ago, but with weeb cuteness like this any absence is sorely noticed.
You can't help but worry some more about her. She's wearing the late Empress' negligee. She's refused to move into the Empress' chambers, she's still using the same rooms she had as Crown Princess. She's obviously not eating well, and she isn't getting enough exercise, and she's painfully lonely.
... Whiskey, your love for Slayers has not escaped my notice.

I approve.
"Imagine what would have happened if my task force had departed in force, or taken my whole fleet to Egon."

"You'd have shown everyone that you're the bestest onee-sama and all those bitches gotta get outta your way!"
I can only imagine Kizuna Ai levels of adorableness when she swears.
And I'm sure you can imagine how Lady Akagi Sumeragi might have words to say about that." You draw yourself to your full height, spreading your tails behind you in all their glory, raising your hand to your mouth as you perform an arrogant noblewoman's laugh. "Ohohohoho! What a mighty force, Princess Yui! Pray tell, are you intending to bring some uninhabited system to heel? Truly, the boorishness and waste of the Imperial House knows no bounds! Is this truly the extent of stewardship displayed by the Prince of Akasha and his spawn?"

Your choice of sleepwear - a worn Navy t-shirt and sweatpants - ruins the effect somewhat, but judging by Ahri's horrified expression, your impersonation of the Sumeragi heir is spot on. You feel quite pleased at that reaction.
I can't tell if I dread or eagerly await the on-screen arrival of the resident Naga.

Whether or not a peacock joke in involved may decide things.
It's the middle of the night when you wake up. Your eyes snap open in the darkness, as you groggily try to figure out what woke y-

"Mama."

It's just one word, but it's filled with such despair and sorrow that you feel your heart seize up. Ahri's back is turned away from you, but you can hear her sobbing for her mother, begging her to come back, begging her father to wake up, begging for her parents to just come back don't leave her she'll be a good girl-
Yuuuuup, there's the Slayers stuff.
"You eat that much?" she gasps. You look down at your plate in confusion. Eggs sunny side up, bacon, steak, sausages, toast, baked beans, hash browns, fried tomatoes, orange juice, black coffee with a dash of salt in it - it's a perfectly ordinary navy breakfast. You tell her as much.
No, that's not a navy breakfast. That's an American Breakfast. :V
For some reason, she seems unnerved by the amount of food on your plate, and by how you demolish your breakfast faster than she eats her slice of toast. You manage to coax her to have a bit of your eggs and bacon. A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step; your journey to get Ahri to eat better begins with a single bite of bacon.
Whoever made the Navy was clearly American, and so this plan gets an honorary Eagle Of Approval.:V

Salt Admiral: It's clearly a civilian you're asking about.
You would simply order Navy personal to attend an offical program instead of asking me.
First up, don't take cues from television shows. Pestering them with questions about being okay doesn't help and is annoying as hell.
Just be present and reliable for them.
Ice cream never hurts either.

[X] Encouraging. She's making good progress, keep at it!

[X] Involved. You'll effectively be Ahri's surrogate parent, directly overseeing her education and life. You're giving up a good amount of independence, anchoring yourself to nurture Ahri.

Oh, Ahri. We need to put that meat on that bones.
Very. Getting noticeably thinner, lonely, and isolated is not a good combination for someone who we have to shape into a confident, self-stable head of state.

I'm going with encouraging instead of measured because right now she really needs the positive attention. And she cannot accept it from anyone else, really.

@Always Late I've never actuslly seen Slayers. Also, if you and @Axslashel refer back to "A Series of Serious meetings" there's an artlink for how Akagi looks, as well as Taihou.

tl;dr: Azure Lane's Akagi. be scared now. :V

Also it should be noted that the IRG's uniform is essentially a black jacket, sealed at the collar, with blue pants/pencil skirt, with a colored stripe on the outside denoting noble rank, and a whote belt. now, i'm not saying this was because first Empress was an ameriboo who married a US Marine.

...I'm not saying it isn't, though. :V

I was more referring to Lady Sumeragi's personality and not her grace Akagi Sumeragi's look.

let's just say that Yui's mental image of Akagi is a bit biased, shall we say, and does not match ip with Akagi's PR public image (or Akagi's private image of herself).

Though it should be noted that all the Great House Scions have super good PR - the guy with the "worst" PR image is Lord Inuyasha Fenghuang, twin brother of Lady Kaga Fenghuang, and he has a rep as a chiongster whom works hard during the week, parties even harder on the weekend, and is back at the office early on monday, hard at work.

How Politics SSR works in this quest
Also I figure I should really make this clear moving forward: this quest doesn't work on statlines, and Politics SSR doesn't mean that we get to steamroller people with our political maneuvering because there are other people with Politics SSR out there.

Plitics SSR is an abstraction of Yui's level of political acumen and knowledge, which, given that this is a freeform narrative quest, is manifested by me talking about things and why they are good or bad ideas, as well as the narrative making note of things: for instance, if we were playing Salt Admiral, he would have completely missed all the things Yui sounds Ahri on, because he has Politics A and only knows Navy politics. (Some people play softball, some people play hardball, Johnny plays Encikball. :V The problem is Encikball only really works on people who're afraid of Chiefs and Warrant Officers. Nobles don't fall into that category. :V)

Oh boy, this is going to be fun. First, let's start with the implication I'm seeing, just to be clear: Ahri is wearing her mother's nightie because she wants to have something close something that smells like mom, make her feel less alone.

Second, go google Naga The Serpent. Keep that 'outfit' in mind. Third, here's the lore for one of the main kingdoms from the series. Long ago, the Prince and Princess Saillune had a daughter, and lived righteous lives in service to the White God-Dragon. But one dark night, the daughter saw her mother brutally murdered in her bedroom by an assassin. After slaying the assassin, the daughter disappeared and was never seen again. Four, fast-forward a few years after Lina's last seen Naga, traveled to the kingdom of Salillune, and become buddy-bubby with the Prince and his new daughter. As she investigates the castle as part of an unrelated assassination plot, she stumbles across the still pristine room of the late Princess. As she's searching the room for hidden passages, she finds one... that leads to bunch of skimpy outfits. Five, when confronted with this the Prince admits he and his wife used to do role-play to spice up their sex life, where his wife would dress up like an evil sorceress and he the dashing hero.

Guess what those skimpy outfits looked like?;)

What he actually meant to type was:

She's a civ right?
Eh if she was Navy you wouldn't ask for my help la
like, you see the things on the holo and you just like, don't do it ok
like you don't just ask them if they're okay all the goddamn time, it's super annoying. Like, walau, don't have better things to do, is it?
Just be there for them and don't talk too much.
Give ice cream, it's good, lotsa ice cream.

Thank god he gave his phone to his adjutant, Captain Lady Amagi Ri-Sumeragi, to type out his text for him. This dude is hopeless without his adjutant. :V

We just need to find what they're week to, and use the counter-element to ensure they're too busy being distracted by the sacrificial pool bait so we can start making political end runs on them. It's like pokemon, except more illicit sex and knife fights.

Guess what those skimpy outfits looked like?;)
People buy lingerie and have sex independent of a 500 year old anime, y'know. :V If they didn't, Tengku Fauziah Kyoko Perak-Kobuin wouldn't be as rich as she is (not to say that she wasn't rich before, but she likes being richer, it's a good way to keep score, and the bedroom department of her fashion empire pulls in a lot of profit :V)

Like, I have mentioned this earlier, but there's a reason only the Great Houses still have maximum pure foxes, it's because the foxes were so thirsty that 500 years of inbreeding with humans means the average fox has lost her fluffy tail and only has her fluffy ears as proof of her foxness. :V

obviously the Great Houses are doing genescreening to ensure they keep their fluffy tails, but you know nobles, rules for you and not for me :V

Oh good, we can rely on loyal Marines to gleefully kick the tails of any rebellious nobles.
The IRG is a separate service from the Imperial Marine Corps*. I've talked about this before, earlier in the thread, but the IRG is basically what happens when the Secret Service has a baby with the USMC, Household Division, USN and JSOC, mixed in with 500 years of good ideas and mission creep. I mean, they've got three dreadnoughts. The Navy only has two. (And Sumeragi has none, which has just added to their butthurt. :V)

*They do have a certain overlap in skillset, being the two services that train for orbital assault. Once upon a time, a couple hundred years ago, the IRG did a dickwaving excercise and deployed 2 RAGTFs to hit an objective, dropping down three overstrength combined arms battalions on the target along with copious fighter and gunship support. The Imperial Marine Corps took offense to that, and the next month did a dickwaving excercise dropping a Marine division onto the target. The IRG began planning for maximum dickwaving in dropping all 5 RAGTFs at once, the IMC and IA started talking about a 2 division drop with rapidly surging multiple Army divisions, at which point the Empress stepped in and slapped down everyone for excessive dickwaving, tailspreading, and wasting her Imperial Majesty's time and budget. :V

Oh thank the gods its back.

Now having looked at the options, we need to be Measured and while not Involved not distant as well. Quite frankly I'm not trusting the tutors if this is the level of education she has been getting, but we also cannot helicopter.

To be fair to Ahri (and this is something that Yui knows IC), the Late Empress is to blame for that. See, the Late Empress had this idea that she would be a good mom, kind and loving, more indulgent than her own monther, and she felt that there wasn't that much rush, she had time to get things do, and so instead of her own childhood which was utterly miserable and was basically nonstop cramming to become the next Empress, she decided let Ahri have a normal childhood. It was actually a fairly reasonable plan: let ahri live like a normal girl until graduating high school at 18, spend the next year with mom as a sorta gap year/ "take your princess to work" year, spend 20-23 at uni getting a degree, then come back to the palace and work with mom and begin her apprenticeship as future empress.

Unfortunately the late Empress did not put any contingency planning into the idea of "what if I die before Ahri's apprenticeship begins" :V

Contrast Prince Masatada, the late Empress' younger brother, who was born as a cinnamon roll and turned into a bitter burnt bun from the weight of expectation and cramming he had to do, and how he was never good enough for his mother, and so he rebelled by running off to join the Navy (which his mother tolerated because, alright fine he's useless to her as an Imperial ruler, he might as well do something useful in his life). (And then Ensign Masatada Akasha, fresh out of the Naval College's Short Commissioning Course, met Ensign Yonatan Chew, formerly Petty Officer 1st Class Yonatan Chew, fresh out of OCS, and a lifelong friendship was born.)

Planning thoughts.

Right now I'm leaning towards Encouraging and Involved. The young Empress needs a friend pretty badly at the moment and I expect Yui taking the reliable big sis role would be best for our dynasty. Coincidentally, it also keeps Yui near the palace most of the time to measure how much support she has for her ...goals.

(Slightly worried that we'll hit a point where soft-coup saves us a lot of grief. Plus cultivating a few 'Yui is number one!' assets would be very helpful anyways.)
